I only cut small stones just because you get to do this. I think that every gem cutter should know how to create their own designs, the art isn’t only in the cutting process but the designing process as well. Great job with this one, Cliff!
Thanks very much for this Cliff..I've been self teaching myself to cut and have been perplexed by odd shaped stones and minimising waste..Your help here and all through the past year has been greatly appreciated..merry xmas and a safe and prosperous 2021 to you and yours.
So glad you did this! I have been cutting all sorts of regular shapes out of irregular stones. Now I will try this out. Still confused but can’t beat trying it. Thanks!
Thanks dear Cliff for education , nice gem and free step cut design. Tim is fantastic man i follow him on channel , have very beautiful parti color sapphire , maybe a good idea for one video.
Love that CZ and the champagne color of it, the gem looks really fancy! Well done Cliff, pats to Jaws and i wish you both a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year! Hugs Susanne
@@VintageTimeGems Oh thank you Cliff for teaching me that it´s a bit confusing when you do not know a whole lot about gem stones. I like to watch them sparkle and shine and I do love to see them come alive in your skilled hands it´s like magic! Hugs, Susanne
I've never attempted a freeform before, I really enjoyed this! Going to keep these tips and tricks in mind next time I need to get the most yield out of my rough 💎
A Very Merry Christmas To You And Your Family And Friends. Hope 2021 brings Health,Wealth And Happiness to you all. Well done on an unusual shape but once again you pulled it of. What a difference.i follow Tim, have some of his sapphires, two parti and a star, plus a very large 'dud',all dug out in episode for 29/09/20,he mentions myself and Tiegan (Tiggy,,my granddaughter) he sold some of the stones for our 25 Anniversary, just got to find a good gem cutter. You know anyone that's any good😏😇.looking forward to what you can teach us mortal creatures, some of your wonderful insights. 😇💎😁🎅🎅🎅💎💎💎💎
Thanks Charles....Have a great New Year. I would join a gem club and learn how to facet, then you can cut those sapphires you bought. Try Doug Menadue he facets gems for other people....Cheers
Creativity’s the. Only way that interests me too. I don’t want to sell my favourite Facets. They are all my favourites, or I save the scrappy ones, so I see the potential and refer back to my recipe of Facets, to then make a better turn at a different gem.. a potentially much better gem because of the Faceting being more perfected. 🎄💎There’s always a way to incorporate a pretty gem into a design.
Thanks Cliff, As nice as it is I think Id have done a pear shape. I know the exercise was to show us how to do a weird oddball shape and you did, so thankyou. Great information as usual. Have a Merry Christmas.
Awesome final cut Cliff. I'm interested in doing some freeform cuts in the near future. I love Zircon, all the material seems to be quite expensive at shows though.
Do you need a different top lap for each different polishing/grinding compound you use? And also are polishing/grinding compounds for steel and other metals suitable for gems? What about ones for glass? I've been researching as best as I can, and I've watched several of your videos already, but haven't really seen that come up. I'll readily admit I haven't put my full focus into the research though. I've been divided between machining, making jewelry and gemstones.
Thanks...Free forms are good with odd shaped rough. The biggest issue is setting them. Too many sapphires are now sold as oddball shapes and the best shapes are cherry picked.
Good day sir. Apparently, you don't use water on the Perspex disc. Is that how you use it? I want to use these discs and not lead or tin ... I am a Brazilian and I always watch your videos.
I would never have guessed this zircon would turn out so beautiful!!! And that peach color is wowza!!! Good job!!!!
Thanks Sharon....

Very true!
Incredible. From what looks like a pebble to a marvellous peachy almost-teardrop. Great job, Cliff!
Glad you enjoyed it!
So excited you did this video. I look forward to using the tips you gave here. I will refer back to it for sure. Thank you Cliff.
Thanks Tam...
That gem turned out amazing and beautiful scintillation. Was very clever of you cliff and interesting to watch. Thank you
Zircon has amazing sparkle. A very underrated gem. Zircon and Topaz in my opinion are the king of gems for recreational facetors.
Beautiful design. Enjoyed the video
Fantastically cut and polished Cliff !!!
Thanks Phil...Cheers Cliff
I am obsessed with shield cuts at the moment. It's beautiful
That was beautiful, thank you. I also like how you clearly marked your 96 wheel. I am doing the same to mine.

Thanks Wayne...Happy gem cutting, and and have a great Xmas.
Excellent ! Thanks. Happy Christmas and New Year.
Thanks....Have a merry Christmas also...Regards Cliff
Beautiful to watch ,the stone looks amazing,

Keep trying Morris. Each free form is different....Cheers Cliff
I could watch this kind of video all day. Thanks!

Thanks Liburni...I would like to visit Tim one day....Cheers Cliff
Beautiful as always thanks for the videos.
Glad you like them!
I love Tim's Adventures. It is nice to see one of his gems cut.
Really nice sparkle from that one! Much nicer color than I would've suspected from seeing the raw stone! Great work, Cliff! 👍
Thanks Kingloopie.....Yes the color surprised me also. Aussie Zircons differ all the time in light colors.
Love that CZ and the champagne color of it, the gem looks really fancy! Well done Cliff, pats to Jaws and i wish you both a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

Susanne
Hi Susanne, it's Zircon not CZ. Lots of people confuse the two gems. Zircon is natural and cubic zirconia is man made. Merry Christmas...

Great video Cliff. I think zircon is under rated. Lovely stone
Thanks Jeff. Yes Zircon should get a lot more respect in the world of gems.
I've never attempted a freeform before, I really enjoyed this! Going to keep these tips and tricks in mind next time I need to get the most yield out of my rough 💎
Vintage Time, it would be fun to see you facet, or skin polish one of Tim's sapphires.
Just brilliant work Cliff, many thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it
You did a great job on that, very nice. I've seen some absurdly facted gems on reddit that probably had more cuts than I have fingers and toes.
I love it.., what a beautiful colour!
This is very helpful👍 Thank you so much. Excellent work👏👏👏
Thanks germangemcutter...
This video was exceptionally helpful Cliff!!!! Thank you, I look forward to using what I have learned. Happy Christmas my friend!!!!
Thanks MM...Merry Christmas to you also...
As always, stunning! Congrats mate!
Thanks Antonio
Cliff thanks for the tips Great job God bless
Thanks Ronnie....Merry Christmas.
Very nice, the colour is so delicate!
Killer stone. Great video, explaining the process and progression helped a lot.
Thanks

Beautiful man! I just found today a circon in this size in the werribee River, sieving for gemie mate. Its a little bit more yellowish
Tim sent me over for a look and I’m glad I did.
Thanks...I hope you enjoy my content. Cheers Cliff
I never realized that the problem with asymmetrical stones is in referencing the crown facets, very interesting! Gorgeous stone!
Yep asymmetrical gems has a different mirroring.
Wow that turned out so nice!!! great to see such fantastic work :)
Thank you so much 😀

That's the main reason recreational gem cutters facet. It's for the creativity and fun aspect. Regards Cliff

Thanks Mark. Free forms are not my favourite. This video was for demonstration purposes only. Merry Christmas.
Good day Cliff
and Great work!

That is beautiful, very well done!
Amazing! You are very talented!
Thanks Juanita...
Thank you Cliff, this video came at great timing, am looking forward to more of your videos😊🎄🎅Merry Christmas.
Thanks Belinda...Take care and have a joyous Christmas.
nice one, so shiny. I get why you like Zircon so much.
I love Zircon...Zircons and Topaz are best.

I really enjoyed this free form video
Thanks Ray.
Doing credit to Tim's Ziron, made it look fantastic and realised a shape that made optimal use of the rough.
Will have to look at more of your vids.

Hi there, what glue are you using in your transfer? cheers
Tim is awesome!!!! :)
Good day sir. Apparently, you don't use water on the Perspex disc. Is that how you use it? I want to use these discs and not lead or tin ... I am a Brazilian and I always watch your videos.
I use water and oil on perspex...
Where do you get your rough from? How do you know you have a reliable source that will send you what they are saying they are sending you?
Dear Cliff I like your videos and was watching them all the time. To me this stone looked like Topaz?
I thought that initially, but it's Zircon the scintillation is different than Topaz and it peachy colour.
Are there any books you recommend?
merci bien pour cette video .
Lol number 96 . Oh the memories 🤣
Haha the old number 96....Cheers Cliff
Hello Master, would you recommend the machine you are using? Are you satisfied with the machine?
I like my machine, but you can't buy them anymore.
@@VintageTimeGems I think it is out of production
Crown Indexes are opposite Pavillion Indexes because the DOP (axis) is attached to the NORTH vs SOUTH poles!
Greetings from New York ..
This one is a really interesting shape.
Thank you
Cheers Bill.
Thank you.
Your website site seems to be down
Leave it to Cliff. He took something that would have sold as tumbling rough and turned into a gem.
Thanks Manuel....
Nice stone
It could have been cut to look like the Millennium Falcon! GRIN
Maravilhoso
Thanks Santiago. Have a great Christmas and New Year....Best Wishes Cliff
