- Hello and welcome to my channel. My name is Cliff and I'm a gem cutter from Australia. In this video watch me facet one of the world's most spectacular gems the "Cleopatra's Eye". The is a legendary gem design, and is well known within faceting circles. The gem is rarely seen faceted, as it is a difficult design to execute. I hope one day that all gem cutters get the chance to facet this wonderful gem. Best Wishes Cliff.

• Detaching the dop stic...
the depth to that stone is mesmerizing
Thanks Ray.
I have never seen this cut before. Absolutely stunning work!
My God, Cliff!!! That is absolutely the most stunning job I've ever seen... Incredible. Adjusting the C1 angle was a stroke of genius... I'm sure Bob Keller is looking down from heaven with a wonderful smile on his face.
Thank you for the best video ever. 😍
Thanks John....I was hoping Bob was still alive. What a amazing design! Now it's your turn to give it a go. Cheers Cliff
I came across your video by complete fluke. I have no idea about the technical terms you used but the end result is breath taking. Take a bow 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
The small rant was amazing @14:48 I related to the feeling of "at a certain point you're on your own from here"
I'm a mere beginner that was taught by a friend on a well worn Raytech-Shaw that has cut pounds and pounds of tourmaline- I had no idea such a crazy cut even existed. This is really impressive work!
It's really a great design. One of the best around and so unique. Cheers
What a stunning piece of work. A real jaw dropper. It makes a brilliant diamond look... pedestrian.
What an amazing pinnacle of craftsmanship. I'm never less than amazed at your skill and ability for faceting. I'm hoping to get started on this hobby later this year, you're my inspiration!
Now I completely understand the high price of quality cut stones. I have a greater appreciation. This is stunning. Ty for sharing.
I'm no gem cutter or collector (yet), but this is art, and from my eyes, you sir are a master artist. This is gorgeous
Just started watching a couple days ago, love gemstones, don’t think I have the patience to cut but I’m a middling collector
I hope you enjoyed the video anyway. Cheers Cliff
People tend to get the patience when they see the profit margin 😎
have 0 experience with gem cutting or polishing but even i can see why you said its a very hard design to create, that the end result is stunning, hats off to you. you are clearly very talented!
What a stunning design!
Absolutely stunning.
Stunning work - that gem is ablaze with fire and colour.
Thank you.
Wow, Truly a Spectacular Cut Cliff, you are obviously passionate about your work and it shows in your finished products.... well done.
Who knew? Never seen this done before. A real thing of beauty.
It turned out beautiful Cliff!
Thanks Chuck.
I bet in real life it looks much more impressive than in the video. You have my respect Sir Cliff.
Thanks Chris...It does look great in real life. Out in the sun is always the best. But difficult to film due to the scintillation.
The craftmanship outshines the gem... 😮
Wow! Just WOW!
Cliff this is just stunning. This diagram is going up on my list of goals to work towards. A true bucket list item.
I have been leaning toward getting gem cut studio and I will for sure now. What a spectacular gem and I love the round iris.
The CZ was a great material to use.
Stay healthy Cliff. And thank you for posting this.
Thanks Tam. I would invest in GCS.I think suck a gem deserves a material with a high IR. Zircon would be good, but you would need a huge piece. Not likely to facet this in Sapphire as it would be too dark, and I can't afford a piece of $20,000 plus rough to facet it anyway. This design works will in a lighter color. Dark read and blue would not work on this design. Regards Cliff
Topaz!
Wow!? What a fascinating gem!! I really enjoyed watching how to cut gems...absolute beauty. Gem cutter's are soo underrated and not given enough credit for their creations. Gem stones are dull and dead, the cutter brings life into them.
Gem cutting is one of those subjects I have had idle curiosity about over the years, but never the opportunity to learn anything about it. This video is very informative, fascinating, and a beautiful thing to watch! Thank you!
What a beautiful piece of art and math magic, combined! So amazing and so beautiful! Thank you!
Thanks Monica
Absolutely beautiful. Thank you for sharing it with us!
I am so inspired, it takes my breath away.
Thanks Robert.
That looks like a beautiful yellow diamond!
Thank you.
Absolutely stunning!
Absolutely the most superb cut I’ve ever seen
This is stunning! Thank you for the video
Congratulations Cliff. What a wonderful achievement. This is the most stunning cut I’ve ever seen.
You’re choice of music is genius. I felt myself magically walking among the pyramids in the valley of the kings escorted by lovely belly dancers (haha).
You are spot on
I think you are correct. This is probably the best design and best looking gem I've cut. Pretty difficult to find another gem that can eclipse this one. Cheers Cliff
Stunning!
Absolutely beautiful!
this is the first time that I get to hear this so beautifully highlighted from a real professional, thank you for this beautiful explanation❤
A truly spectacular gem Cliff, material, cut and colour all. Definitely a bucket lister too those pavilion facets radiate beautifully through the table, jaw on the floor beautiful.

Wow! Spectacular! What an achievement! Its beautiful! Thank you for your wonderful videos...
Well Cliff, I do believe you've outdone yourself! Kudos to you, and kudos to Bob Keller, the designer of this marvel. Seeing this getting done I can easily believe it is a rare gem, not only is it complicated as heck, oh nonono, you also have to fiddle all those facets until they work. I doff my hat for the master(s)!
Thanks Kathy, it will be hard to top this. Not really sure how far I could really go as this design is already up there with difficult designs. Still plenty of other gem varieties I can try to facet.
wow!! what a beautiful jewel you created!!!
This is truely the most spectacular gems in the world
Amazing work.
Wow. That was utterly incredible. Thank you so much for sharing. I recently purchased an ultra tec v5 and this is no doubt something I'm striving to complete myself. You really did a superb job, the finished result is breath taking. So inspirational, so incredible.
I can't stop watching your videos. Such a magnificent craftsmanship!
Thank you very much!
This is a fabulous design.
As usual your videos are just a dream!!! Thank you so much!!!
Thank you.
Love the 1950s orientalism music production, really captures the mood of a simpler time when Hollywood starlets in their gems were more of a thing.
Absolutely beautiful work. I can imagine a pair of these as the eyes of a statue.
This is just jaw dropping incredible. So complex!!!
This is your best work! Well done Cliff😄
Thanks Ian...It will be hard to top this gem.

Well done Cliff you make me want to cut again, just beautiful..
Hi Tim, Least you'll have plenty of gems to facet. I may have to sell a few of my gems as I'll be out of work for least a month with this damn virus. Your pretty isolated where you are. Cheers Cliff
@@VintageTimeGems Sorry to hear that, hope you dont catch it, stay safe.

everything about this gem is awesome. the cut,the color, the music, the name. If you would have made such a gem for your Queen anywhere, you would have been knighted or whatever that King/Queendom has instead. Looks like there is a sun hidden in the middle of the gem. Spectacular.
Thanks Aik...This design is truly an amazing design. Cheers Cliff
Fell asleep haf into the video while relaxing after work. Very relaxing and nice video. Ty mate. And the gem is beautiful

This is a beautiful gem!!😍😍 This is about 1000 steps above my opal cutting skills!! Awesome job!!👍👍😁
Spectacular
Nice work, I can imagine designing a ring around that stone.
Thank you.
@@VintageTimeGems Your welcome, may I ask a question. What are the exact measurements of that gemstone. I want to challenge myself and carve a ring out of wax for a stone that size and shape. My specialty is lost wax casting and wax carving.
Shawn Plant the finale gem is 20x10mm and 15.5 carats. He says so at 16:34
Soooooo!!!!! Beautiful😌😍
Beautiful.
Spectacular! Liked and subbed for the sheer pleasure of watching your art!

Wow that is awesome and your patience and skills far exceed my goals. Thanks for sharing your incredible talents.
Truly amazing
Utterly beautiful. Here’s to queen Cleopatra VII, the last of the Ptolemaic dynasty. She died at 39, but her seductive beauty, intelligence and mystery lives on 2053 years later..
thats a beautiful cut
Wunderschön und gute gearbeitet
Absolutely gorgeous
Thank you! Cheers!
That stone is magnificent ❤
Your videos are beautiful meditations.
Thank you.
Magnificent.. I realize that the flat table is necessary to create the iris of the eye, but I would love it without the table. Then I could mount it on a horseshoe frame and hang it from a chain.
Breathtakingly beautiful
Thanks Fireworks.
@@VintageTimeGems Actually Thank You for sharing this technique. Have you ever tried this with glass? (marble maker here)
How beautiful.
