I am a 70 year old woman who has never attended anything mechanical. His directions were spot on. I even purchased the same battery. Though it took me almost an hour I got it snow and saved $240.00.
Oops.....meant....I got it done.
You are awesome Cheryl!
Wow
Well done. I’m 42 will give is go this weekend
Warning some folks are posting fake info in the comments, this IS an AGM battery been a year as I write this zero codes. Be careful of "keyboard experts".

Gosh did this work Beautifully! Froggy you saved me a Bunch$! Sincerest Thanks!
You are very smart sir and I was just in the process to see if it just needed charged or a new battery
Excellent video but I have to say it scared me, I thought I was getting cataracts! 😃
Awesome! Thank you sir!
Many thanks for the video !!
Wifes GLK is 2014. Factory battery lasted 5 years. Purchased "Chrome" brand battery from A-zon and replaced. Lasted 5 years as well. I replaced again today with same "chrome" brand. Hope it lasts 5 years also. Not sure why GLK says theres a problem because the old battery seems fine. Holds charge, reads 13 volts and operates the hatchback just fine.
I think when the computer reads a voltage "on the margin" it sends a msg to replace (even if all seems fine) Every 5 yrs is not too bad. :)
Thanks a lot for his video. Was able to replace the auxiliary battery successfully.
I got the original Mercedes battery which cost is $197 (not cheap) and followed your video to install it. Thank you!
The plastic components in the back could have been designed differently 😊
Glad to help!
I was advised to use motorcycle terminal nuts is that okay?
Followed along and replaced my battery with ease. Thanks, Froggy! 🐸🙌
The message says, “AUXILIARY BATTERY MALFUNCTION”
Thanks for posting, this really helped.
One thing to know, certain electronic functions will not work when that battery fails…..like Cruise Control!
Thanks
Will this battery mess with transmission if bad. Like going in gear
@@derekwhitney4919No.
I just replaced mine and it is very easy to remove the trim piece at the rear of the vehicle. Apply light pressure and the clips holding it in place will
Release. So much easier than getting frustrated trying to wiggle the battery cover out. .The nuts are 10mm and the Torx is 45. Also, this 15 minute video should be half the length. A lot of hemming and hawing about the sunlight, etc. etc. You MUST use the same type of battery technology, that is an AGM battery.
Thanks for the tip on the trim piece, if you watch the video I did remove it. this battery doing great months later. Find shorter videos, no problem from me. :)
@@1947froggy were do I get this battery?
@@vernellerobinson5040 pinned it.
@@1947froggy where do I get the battery it’s not pinned anymore? ❤️
@@calibleu7532 Google the battery name and model in the video, I don't recall sorry.
After replacing the battery is there anything else needed to reset on the computer of the car?
Not that I recall, you will get a msg if so.
170 is cold cranking amps
Thanks for the vote of confidence getting that cover panel out...everything worked out great!
My 2015 Mercedes GLK 350 displayed “Auxiliary Battery Malfunction “ message this morning. I was not able to find any reference to that message in the owners manual. I had the dealer replace the main battery a couple of months ago and he mentioned I might be getting the auxiliary battery message soon. I’ll t4y to replace it myself.
Just follow the video, it's not hard, take your time. :)
Thanks for the video
It helped me to find it quickly
Likewise any feedback after changing the battery with a different brand
.Are there changes in the running condition of the car.will a different brand do the job ?as long as it has the same Amp hour rating .Thanks

Hey Froggy, Joe M. here. I'm not sure about Mercedes, but i can tell you from multiple experiences in the past, (GM master tech), in a GM car if you use a regular flooded battery in place of the AGM battery in the auxiliary position it WILL set DTC's. This is primarily due to the battery's chemistry and the charging algorithm the ECM uses, (AGM vs. Flooded). Again, i'm not 100% on how Mercedes handles it, but i definitely know how GM does it. Hopefully, all will be well with it. Just something to be aware of. Great channel
From what I can tell both are agm, thanks Joe!
Ok, I’ll bite. What’s a DTC? 😀
Video way to long!
Most of mine are.
:)
Not to long for dingbats like me who prefer lots of explanation on what the hell I’m doing. Thanks for the long video! Lol I personally need it!
Does a GLS has an Auxiliary battery and where is it located
AVERIA EN BATERIA AUXILIAR, EN MEXICO DONDE CONSIGO UNA BATERIA DE ESAS QUE PUSISTE?
I want to do exactly as you did so I need your help sir
Great video, not too long. I have a 2014 GLK with original batteries. Would you advise changing both?
Usually a dying battery gives you a warning "hard/slow starting" I usually wait for the warning, but if you are especially wary of "getting stuck" somewhere, it's not a bad idea for the engine battery. The car WILL RUN with a low aux battery & IIRC there is a dash warning, so really no need to go early on the aux.
Thanks
Hi Froggy, I noticed from the invoice you posted, the cost of this Banshee YTX14-BS is $55.59 and I would not find anything in that price range. Do you have a special discount?
No just shopped around a LOT.
Absolutely great video thank you so much you’ve saved me hundreds of dollars sir 😏🥳
thanks ! Very helpful
AGM absorbent GLASS Mat , not Gas mat . AGM do not off gas and corrode terminals . You used the wrong battery. There are many more reasons AGM is superior.
Pardon my pronunciation. As I often tell my wife, "You are wrong again".

Thanks for viewing & commenting. :) BTW 18 months & running fine, no codes. ;)
Always disconnect negative cable first the positive, then install positive then negative.
Let me give you an example, say you disconnect neg first, then accidentally touch that negative to a ground on the car. What do you get? Right, sparkler! :) Don't believe, try it. :)
Is it necessary to unhook main battery before doing this?
I did not, but always caution when handling batteries.
@@1947froggy thank you
@@1947froggy i just received the battery(genuine) and on the top right part with the label, it’s got a small crack. You happen to know if it’s safe to go ahead and install or get new replacement?
@@Pewtuber556 I do not like the idea of a crack in the battery case if that's what it is, I would return for a new one.
It was very helpful for me froggy and it gave me a message AJ auxiliary battery needs to be changed it would not leave the dashboard I found your video very very helpful do you live close to Florida ?
Your wife is blessed
Glad to help & mine is 100% fine since video dropped. :). I'm in CA & wife does not appreciate as much as you do, haha.
Thanks
I have a 2011 GLK auxillary battery, what does it do
Auxiliary batteries work with your main starter battery, and as a backup battery in the event the main battery becomes disabled. It prevents your vehicle's electrical components from dropping when starting/stopping your engine and keeps your radio, GPS, and other in-vehicle electrical components turned on.
@@1947froggy Ok will it have any affect on starting/
@@bnoakes4899 Not sure but I don't believe a battery that size would start the car, doubt it. It's just as stated.
Anyone know what kind of regular battery goes in the glk ?
I got a Costco (Interstate, maint. free)
I put a brand new battery in a the car keeps dying any recommendations?
@@keyztothecityentertainment Something is draining the battery, first see if you have anything plugged in that stays on with the key out. Second you have to troubleshoot for a drain caused by malfunctioning part of the car.
@@keyztothecityentertainment likely due to alternator - you battery isnt being recharged. Take multimeter- measure voltage when the engine is off. Then turn the engine on and check the voltage- it should show around 14v. If not showing around 14v, then your alternator is bad or belt running it.
PS in addition, it could be draining from something using the power when the engine is turned off - someone mentioned it above
What year is this? Does it matter?
Mine a 2015, probably not different year to year but the battery specs. are important. Replace with same or better specs.
@@1947froggy Thank you!
The message goes away when you hit the OK button on the steering wheel left side.
It'll come back. Those aux batteries are good for 4-5 years then replace.
Sure if you wanna hit ok every time you restart the car 😂 because that’s what I have to do
You have to clear the code for the error to go away
Thanks so much, used the same battery you did. I stuck a flat screwdriver under the nut in the battery terminal to lift it up so the bolt would engage . I also had to cut the positive terminal cover with a razor knife to make it fit. Easy peasy, do it yourself!
Mine still good.
:)
