I can truly say that this game shaped my life. I was given a copy by my neighbor when I was 7 years old. Now because of this game, I'm studying ancient history in college so I can teach it to a future generation. Thank you, Sierra, for this amazing game!
haha that's funny to hear, because I have also used it but for working as an app developer. So it's interesting how the same thing brings us to mind very different stuff.
Man I love this. The thing is the music of this game matches so well with the evolving of your city. The part starting after 5 min has the same leitmotiv as the very first relaxed village track and it feels like this: First track: A few tents standing, give me tools, wood and stone to build the city! Third track (also same leitmotiv): A nice city is standing, give me gladius, pillum and scutum to protect it! Last track: A metropolis is standing, give me chariot, leaf crown and triumph arch and call me Caesar!
I use to build the city up to this soundtrack level, then increase the tax to max and decrease wages to zero while building governor's mansion all over the city with legions in front. The ensuring chaos was spectacular.
@@civilwildman Most likely. Exports make up a huge amount of early game economy, they might save you but I don’t know if wages would eat that up. Even mid sized cities can have 0 tax just fine.

I do hear that similarity, but the middle portion you refer to also sounds a lot like parts of Holst's "Mars" (ca. 1920). However, speaking of connections I also know that much of this track (and some of the others from the game) is very similar to the soundtrack from Ben Hur (1959) by Miklos Rozsa: Compare the first half of this track with the various iterations of "Victory Parade"; from 5:00 onward around Rozsa's "Roman March". Personally I like this track better!
🎺👏🎺👏🎺👏🎺 God I loved this game. I remember this and Age of Empires II were the 2 games my friends and I played all the time in our highschool days. It kickstarted my love for history, culture and ancient warfare and was such a great way to even learn about the concepts of macroeconomy.
I got this music this weekend playing Construction Kit city mode... The problem was after 5 minutes I got a gladiator revolt and my whole city was reduced to ashes D:

Sorry, the only job opening we have is to carry goods with your cart from one end of the city to the other. And today's cart load is: A stack of wheat bags the size of an elephant.
This particular track is very heavily inspired by the composer Miklos Rosza, specifically taking inspiration from his masterpieces in "Ben-Hur" and "Quo Vadis."

you should record yourself building a city with like fraps or something and upload it to youtube. i can't get enough of these impressions games
Try the Julius mod...
@@A350Airways julius mod? How is that? :o
@@scalindor8753 The main thing I liked about the Julius mod is the ability to constrain walkers to certain areas within the city, using roadblocks.

4:41 onward is such a sweet spot of this song. :)
Sierra is the best on making this game typic Roman and Italian I miss sierra i miss the days of Caesar 3
This music was so light and fun to listen to while managing the city. It really gave life the game.
*Has tramping Roman boots of conquest. Grand, brassy horns with Imperial flair: Light and fun! :P

It is so beautifully inspired by the original triumph march from the legendary movie Quo Vadis! Absolutely awesome!
Wow, thanks for that reference!
Absolute banger of a track
when ever this music tuned up i felt like i accomplished something big, and i rly enjoyed this as a reward^^
I came here to read this comment jejeje
I love Rome because of Caesar 3. If i hear this music i always think about the Golden Age of Rome (96-180 AD) great stuff

What would happen if you did the opposite? Would you possibly go bankrupt?

Rome 5
Simply the best track in gaming.
Hail citizen! This music? We quite like it really, don't we Leo?
This should have been the official music of the Roman legions
4:45 the best part.
It's that bass trombone that makes that part epic!
True Roman music, for true Romans.
Hail the republic! Hail Caesar!

Roma Invicta!
This movement, especially, channels Miklós Rózsa! It hooked me on the game (my kids were playing it when they were in grammar school).
