When you are walking down you never know what will be there. It's always giant boulders, it's just a matter of how hard they will be to fish from! Hooking a fish like that is one thing, landing it is another thing entirely!
Always glad to share. I already have a lot of Tahoe content on my 'lakes and reservoirs' playlist but there will be a lot more coming because I love fighting and eating those big rainbows.
Respect to you, Amani! I’ve attempted to duplicate your Lake Tahoe success including: sleeping in my car, getting worms & power bait, rigging the small treble hooks, hiking at dawn down to Lake Tahoe, freezing my hands off, risking my life to climb over the big boulders.. and I got skunked! It’s so much easier lying in my bed here and enjoying watching you fish!. Keep it up, Man!
Keep trying! Sometimes, like this time, I only get one bite so that is the fine line between getting skunked and hitting a jackpot. One thing is sure, you'll get more Tahoe action on this channel because I'm going back!
That fish is actually going with a neighbor of mine to his family's Thanksgiving dinner. Now several people can enjoy it as it holds court on the table next to the turkey!
Nice meeting you too. I have a lot of adventures up on my playlists and there are a lot more to come. My channel content is organized in playlists to make navigating through all of it easier. Hope you had a great time out there. Hope you have a good hike tomorrow.

Once snow removal starts up be careful where you park you may come back and find your vehicle ticketed or towed. They have taken all the good parking away with the construction of the bike path and drainage . I went on Thanksgiving day, just South of Chimney, hooked into 3 nice fish. 2 rainbows 14 and 16 inch and a mack 22 inch. Stay safe out there !
Right on. I've had a lot of success in that area myself. Those rainbows are real tasty! Yeah, I get sketched on parking on the side of the road in the Winter. I'm also not a big fan of climbing down steep, rocky inclines covered with snow and ice so I usually find easier places to access with some sort of established parking.
That fish was awesome. It's actually going with a neighbor to his family's Thanksgiving feast. Now I need to go back and try to get another one for myself! I'll use any excuse to get back out there!

@@wildernesswithamani1027 Tahoe is like Topaz. California and Nevada licenses work. I have both. I always thought that Cave Rock would be a good spot to try. I'll look at more of your stuff. Thank you.

The meat was dark pink like salmon and cooks up like salmon as is typical with the Lake Tahoe Rainbows. Almost every large trout I get near rocky areas is loaded with crawdads. I am going to focus on that pattern next time out.
That fish was jumping like crazy! When the fish get's close enough to see and it's doing everything it can to swim into the boulders everywhere under the water it is a hold your breath moment. Just keep forcing them away from that danger! It's all you can do!
Dang Man, Nice catch! I was just out there in incline village for thanksgivings, i went out to “Cave Rock” In the morning, and havent had a single bite :/ There was maybe 8-10 fishermen out there too and nobody had a single bite, maybe ill have better luck next time.
All you can do is keep trying! I've had some success at Cave Rock but it hasn't been the best spot for me. Just easy to access and fish. I find the best spots are the hardest to get to and fish! As Usual!
I just cooked fish in the Loon Lake clip I put up a week ago. I have 3 other clips for cooking trout on my variety playlist. In All of those clips I'm cooking the fish right after catching them but my loon Lake clip I cook them while I'm still fishing. For the most part, cooking isn't my thing. I got worried when I came up half empty on that first hook set. That was the only bite I got all morning so for a second there I thought I might have choked!
I loved nailing that rainbow. I want to go back soon and explore more of that casting next to the rock wall pattern. The fish seem to be there for the crawdads.
I live in the Tahoe area and after 2 unproductive years I'm finally beginning to have some success thanks to your videos! Today I finally brought home a nice Rainbow, caught with Power Bait. I was at a rocky outcropping just north of Secret Cove, not far from where you were in this video. The water was deep enough that I didn't even have to cast: I watched the fish take the bait (after circling for a while) right under my nose, 3 feet from my rock. My previous 2 trouts were caught with diving plugs. Sorry for the many questions, it's the accumulation of several months of watching your channel: (1) how important is early morning start time? I showed up early but all my bites have occurred at around 10am in bright sunlight. (2) where do you get your nightcrawlers? And what is the success rate compared to Power Bait. (3) I use a drop shot rig instead of slip sinker. My understanding is it's easier to cast and allows the bait to suspend a few feet from the weight, without having to "inflate" or floating bait. Have you tried it? (3) I've had some success with diving plugs, but they require constant cast and retrieve. You seem to prefer cast and wait. Have you tried plugs. (4) I feel bad because the trout I caught today was a pregnant female. Any advice on quickly identifying such fish so I can release them immediately? THANKS Amani!
Glad you had some success. That's what it's all about. I get more fish on powerbait but crawlers do fine. I typically always use a basic slip sinker, long leader set up. I get my crawlers at Walmart. Easiest way to figure out male/female is search it up online and look at the detailed pictures. As for early in the morning, when it's the colder months I seem to get fish randomly at all times of the day. In Summer I try to get out there early to get out before there is tons of surface activity on the lake. I don't throw lures in Tahoe because I just like to kick back and relax out there. I do enough casting of artificials in rivers and alpine lakes.

Once long ago. We were at Bluewater lake here in New Mexico, night fishing and on my first cast using little white marshmallows. As soon as my bait hit the bottom, I hooked onto a huge trout. After a long fight, he snapped my line! I was so disappointed. I couldn't see him but I could hear him jumping out of the water. Not sure how big it was, but later on that night I caught one 23 inches and he didn't give me half the fight that first fish did.

Been to Tahoe only once and everyone I asked about fishing only told me that they only fish from boats for lake trout…..so fishing is from shore is a doable thing for trout? I usually fish the sierras June lake mammoth area.
It's totally doable. I have multiple clips for Lake Tahoe from shore on my channel's lakes and reservoirs playlist. It can be tough to land the larger fish but I have a great deal of success. You can find my general set up on my fishing tips playlist in either clips "rigging up for reservoir trout" or "my general strategy for deep water reservoir trout". For Lake Tahoe specifically I up my slip sinker to 1/2 OZ and shorten my leader as needed to cast farther when needed. I use a size 6 baitholder hook for inflated crawlers and a tiny size 18 treble hook for powerbait. Go out there and get some! I also have a lot of Eastern Sierra content across my fishing and hiking playlists. Hope you enjoy some of it.
It was the usual hike back up. The trail isn't very steep in the middle but it's steep for a bit on both ends. I want to get back out there and try that pattern close to the rocky shore again. They have to cruise those rocks to get crawdads sometime!

I don't know what cove it is exactly. I saw the 'clothing optional sign' on a tree on the way up so I'll skip the hot sunbathing days. I don't want to see what I can't un-see!
I saw a sign on the way out indicating that so you are correct. Something tells me I'd see something I'd rather not see and not be able to erase it from my memory so I'll skip the summer fishing there!

@@wildernesswithamani1027 much love Amani! Tight lines brother
Wow Thumbs up 👍
I was getting worried. No Bites. Glad I got that fish in the end rather than have had it hit when I was napping! I dozed off for a solid hour!
what trail head is that? i just moved to Reno and would love to start fishing tahoe because of your videos! Great job man! Ide love to go fishing sometime. i'm replicating your set up and hoping to get some bites. You're the only good videos for fishing the area. Keep it up man!
Welcome. This place jams. Well as far as the outdoors and scenery. 😎 I'm off robb. See ya out there.
I have a bunch of clips for fishing Lake Tahoe on my Lakes and Reservoirs playlist if you haven't seen them and are interested. That was a little past the Chimney Beach parking area if you are heading in the direction of Spooner. I had never been there. I just pulled off at the first easy spot once there weren't any no parking signs. There are no parking signs along the road near the entrance to Chimney Beach. My experience tells me that if you can find a spot with public access and 15 feet of water give it a shot. Especially as it continues to get colder. Good luck.
Last time I went to Tahoe I got skunked . My friend caught one really big lake trout and two big rainbows . Hopefully next time it will be my turn.
@@wildernesswithamani1027 I appreciate the info man!
@@stanthefishermaniii5476 I hear ya! i'm from MN and out here for 3-6mo as a traveling x-ray tech so I'm just trying to learn as quick as possible and get on some fresh trout. We dont have those where im from! DM me if youde like to go fishing sometime. Ill be fishing tahoe tomorrow and hopefully bringing home dinner!
True fisherman
When your original plans fall apart, sometimes you just have to grind it out. I'm just glad it paid off!
Amani do you ever see any hatches come off when you fish Lake Tahoe? Do you see Fish rising or do you see them not come up? Awesome video!
I have seen a few risers and nice fish cruising fairly close to the rocks looking for food. I haven't seen hatches. I usually fish Tahoe when it's cold. I have multiple Lake Tahoe clips on my lakes and reservoirs playlist if you haven't seen them and are interested. Thanks for tuning in.
what bait did you catch that hog on, congrats.
I hit that fish on a full inflated crawler. I get a lot of fish on a tiny ball of powerbait on a size 18 treble hook as well. My general set up can be found on my fishing tips playlist. Either of the clips 'rigging up for reservoir trout' or 'my general technique for deep water reservoir trout' detail how I rig up for bait fishing for trout. For lake Tahoe specifically I up the sinker from my usual 1/4 OZ to a 1/2 OZ slip sinker and shorten my leaders as needed for farther casting ability. I also have multiple Lake Tahoe clips on my Lakes and Reservoirs playlist.
That sucker was FLYING!
Yeah, jumping all over! Great fight!
hell yeah that’s a good eater!!
Yeah, those big rainbows have large, thick, pink meat filets that are awesome eating.
We’re happy!
That was a great fish to catch. Thing was jumping like a Marlin!
Nice fish as always Amani! I've also been trying to replicate your success, but have failed 4 times now including on Thanksgiving. Have you ever tried throwing out a double hook setup with both powerbait and a nightcrawler on a single line?
I have not tried that. My basic set up can be found on my fishing tips playlist in either of my clips "rigging up for reservoir trout" or "my general technique for deep water reservoir trout". 0-4 is a tough stretch but it's getting colder so keep trying. You will get yours!
Was this near chimney beach? That fish was a beauty!
It was up the road about a quarter to a half mile. When I saw the gates to the Chimney Beach locked, I drove back up until I cleared the no parking signs and hit the first large space to pull off. Just went with it. Never been there before.
You ever use lures at Lake Tahoe?
I haven't but I have talked to a couple of people who do with some success .When the water is real ccold is best according to them.
Use a bobber and a minnow at Lake Tahoe and you'll catch more fish than you can eat
Right on.
Is that secret cove?
I don't know what cove it is exactly. I saw the 'clothing optional sign' on a tree on the way up so I'll skip the hot sunbathing days. I don't want to see what I can't un-see!
@@wildernesswithamani1027 haha right! Damn good fish though, might have to go back with dark sunglasses.
@@wildernesswithamani1027 still using #18 treble hooks for power and #6 for worms?
Awesome
I wasn't getting anything before that. Glad that fish didn't hit while I was napping!
#290👍🏻🎣👀
Right on.
Nice vid but can you show the color of the meat next time
It's deep reddish pink. Cooks up very similar to salmon. Delicious!
Google maps says that is a nude beach. If you went in the summer it could have made for an interesting fishing video.
I saw a sign on the way out indicating that so you are correct. Something tells me I'd see something I'd rather not see and not be able to erase it from my memory so I'll skip the summer fishing there!
I would have to let that toad free ... nice chub
I let a lot of them go when I can do so safely. Not this one. That fish is actually going with my neighbor to his family's Thanksgiving Dinner. On the table right next to the turkey!
Ssswweeeeeettttttt
It was a nice score!
