You are the best fishing channel to come out since Fishermans life! Thanks for sharing your tips on Tahoe. Its one of those places thats I've always wanted to shore fish but just didnt know where or how. Now I know there are fish out there and they can be caught from shore!
I first started out just using 6lb mono and my regular set up from the clip on my fishing tips playlist "Rigging up for reservoir trout". After seeing what the rocks did to my line after a couple of nice fish, I made the adjustments I talk about in some of my most recent Lake Tahoe clips. Thanks for the kind words and tuning in.

They are out there. I get those nice rainbows in all of my other Lake Tahoe clips in even shallower water. The one I kept in my "Line Stripping Rainbows....." clip I posted recently had a bunch of crawdads in it.
Thank you. I have grown to love making content. Yeah, let them get huge! There will be a lot more to come. Yeah, I wasn't expecting to get those but that spot was probably the deepest one I found so far. I'm glad I didn't go the stubborn route and try to make the first shallow spot I found work. Thanks for checking out the clip.
Those Mack's are beautiful. You work for it but man do you get into some big fish. I caught a 16" Brown out of Hot Creek yesterday and thought that was nice. LOL
I was planning to bust my fly rod out on Hot Creek before this year is over. Never fished it before. I have a lot of brown and rainbow trout fishing on the Truckee on my various playlists if you haven't caught any of it yet. I tried those 1/8 OZ hackle, marabou, and bucktail jigs last June the first time I fished the Truckee and never looked back! Larger trout seem to nail those things! Thanks for checking out the clip.
Thank you for showing us how great shore fishing can be in Lake Tahoe! ive always thought you had to fish from a boat to catch great fish but man, you proved me wrong! awesome work! i hope to get out there soon and catch some nice fish
Right! Me Too! I fished all around it for decades and never tried hitting the shore because I assumed it wouldn't be any good. Out of around 10 tries, I have hit quality trout from shore around the lake except for 2 and one of those was because I went to Sugar Pine Point Park and it was seriously shallow everywhere. Ended up turning that day into a hiking clip. I have several Lake Tahoe shore fishing clips up on my lakes and reservoir playlist if you are interested. Thanks for watching the clip.
Your videos kick ass - I caught a 20 inch rainbow from shore a couple days ago and I thought it was a nice fish until I found your videos 🤣 would love it if you talked about your tackle and rigs in your videos - subbed
If you go yo my fishing tips playlist my clip 'rigging up for reservoir trout' shows my general set up. My clip for fishing below Logan Shoals Vista Point explains the adjustments to that set up I make for lake Tahoe Specifically. It was a recent upload on my lakes and reservoirs playlist. I have several Lake Tahoe clips on there.
I countdown from the time my weight hits the water until it hits the bottom. Basically, I want to know roughly how deep it is where I'm fishing and as I move my stuff in and out I want to keep track of what general depth I am hitting fish at. I have a clip on my fishing tips playlist "My general strategy for deep water reservoir trout" where I go over why I count down and show exactly how I rig up. For Lake Tahoe I go up to a 1/2OZ slip sinker and shorten my leaders as needed to allow for farther casting. I have a lot of clips on my fishing tips playlist and, in my opinion, everything on there is need to know! Hope that helps. Good luck.
It's a challenge with those boulder but I have rarely been shut out since I first tried it last June. I was looking for rainbows to eat but I'll take fighting a couple Macs!
Find water at least over 10 feet deep, get out there at the crack of dawn, cast out and wait! If you haven't seen it, I have clips on my fishing tips playlist that detail exactly how I rig up. "Rigging up for reservoir trout" should do it but there are many clips there that demonstrate things I employ as part of my general approach to fishing different situations. For Lake Tahoe, I bump my slip sinker up to 1/2 OZ and shorten my nightcrawler leader to allow for farther casting. Hope that helps. Hang in there, you will succeed!
I have a spot in that area I call Hap's cove. I've caught 22 inch bows and a Mac. I have another spot in incline I've caught 2 mac's from shore. A 25 and 21 inch. I'm enjoying your vids.
Yeah, I've had luck in most places I've tried with over 15 feet of water during the colder months. Fishing from shore all around this lake can be productive as long as the water is deep enough and you can stand on the rocks without falling in!
Right on. I have grown to love making them. I have been hoping to get down to Chimney Beach for a while this Spring. Soon as I saw that gate open I went right in.
It is awesome out there. The Conditions there typically giant boulders inside and out of the water and you often have to hike down some crazy terrain to get to the water. I am really starting to appreciate that stone beach right off the 89 I fish in the winter where you can just pull up, walk 50 feet, and cast out. Probably crawling with people this time of year but it's nice when it's still freezing out!
@@wildernesswithamani1027 I wish I could still make that hike but after cancer I'm on oxygen and still weak. I'm going to have to get a boat or rent one to fish there, or go where the crowds are. I used to fish Sailor bar, Nimbus, above and below the dam, Negro bar, all the same water you talked about. Folsom too, and the rivers all around the place. Time to get back into it as soon as I get a few health issues dealt with.
When I fish lake Tahoe I mostly baitfish. How I rig up and the hooks, weights, and bait I use can be found in videos on my fishing tips playlist. I also have videos on that playlist that give the basics on different lures I use on my other playlists like my River fishing, backcountry fishing, etc. Hope that helps.
I did a couple of times when I was a kid visiting my Aunt and Uncle in Sac. Got a couple on shad darts but it's been decades since I have. I'd ride the bike up to Sailor bar on the American from the Fair Oaks area. I would ride that bike all over to go fishing!
Invest in a nice 12' aluminum boat and get to those spots faster and easier. So much more of Tahoe would be available to you. You probably don't need to but a 4 stroke, you could just get around with a good electric trolling motor. Great video and beautiful day. How hot was it when you left?
I have an inflatable boat with a 4 stroke Suzuki outboard. I have a clip where I talk about my boat and I use it in multiple clips. 55 lbs deflated, stable enough to easily stand up in, beach or launch it anywhere, and everything fits in the back of my SUV. Thing has been great for me for 6 years. I don't want to deal with the boat inspection process at the Lake. Easier for me just to make my way down to the shore. As long as I'm catching fish, I don't care how I get there! I have a lot more Lake Tahoe content on my lakes and reservoirs playlist if you are interested and haven't seen it. Thanks for checking out the clip.
Curious: Do you have a CA or NV fishing license? Due to the state line running down the middle of the lake, you can fish the NV side of the lake with a CA license. My question is.........Does that rule apply to boat fishing or can we fish from the NV shoreline as well with a CA license?
I have both a Nevada resident license and a California non-resident license. It is my understanding either one is good anywhere on the lake. The Nevada regulation guide it's under western region special regulations under Lake Tahoe and the California guide it's under the section about licenses. I always recommend confirming regulations for yourself though! I never want to accidentally steer anyone wrong.
@@wildernesswithamani1027 Right. Thanks for your input. So, you're thinking that a Nevada-licensed Nevada resident could legally fish from Bliss State Park, etc. (California side) with his/her Nevada license). California regulations in general have gotten STUPIDLY detailed. I've got a law background and sometimes struggle a bit. I would guess there's a TON of unintentional illegal fishing only because people can't make heads-or-tails of the regulations. I went round and round with a F&G Lieutenant over my wife not needing a license when fishing from public fishing piers in the SF Bay District. 30 minutes later when his colleague backed me up, LT. walked away less-than-pleased. Enjoy your videos.
Amani, just found your channel. Really enjoy your content. May suggest you invest in wireless mic. Your sound quality would be much improved. Especially when you have camera on a tripod.
I started out with a wireless mic but I use a gopro and with many models you have to turn the camera on before you hit record or else it doesn't record any audio. I lost usable video on several fish because of that so I dumped it and just started talking louder, sometimes nearly screaming! The camera also isn't waterproof with the mic port open. When I'm getting a bite, I struggle to run over and hit record before the fish is gone with the camera off. Turning it on, waiting seconds, then hitting record made me miss a lot of hits. If you haven't discovered it, all of my content is organized on playlists to make it easier to find what interests you. Glad to have you aboard. I plan to get a lot done in the days, months, years to come.
I really appreciate you sharing your adventures, I’m planning on taking the 3 hr drive to that spot if I can find it, with the hope I can get my wife to catch mackinaw or a trout or 2. Been watching your videos for a month and a half and I feel much more confident in catching fish, thank you so much. You still look relatively close still to chimney beach... compared to where secret cove is, looking at the map anyway. Where did you park?
When you get down to the lake from the Chimney Beach Trailhead, go hard left away from the beach and it seems to get deeper fast. Cast far and reel in fast with your rod tip high when you are checking your bait or you will get snagged fast! My the tips I give in "rigging up for reservoir trout" and "choosing weights and avoiding snags" on my fishing tips playlist will give you an idea of how I approach it and then I talk about the adjustments to my set up for Lake Tahoe I make in this clip and the Lake Tahoe clip I put up a few weeks ago "Line stripping rainbows....." Thanks for tuning in and good luck!
@@wildernesswithamani1027 Thanks so much! I had my wife watch your videos and she’s very excited for our trip! Thank you for brightening up our lives with sharing your fishing spots videos!
Normally, in the summer, the lake gets blown out for shore fisherman with all the boat activity, but maybe since that spot is so deep it would stay okay. What do you think?
I think there were a few boats on this day and the waves were coming in! I get what you are saying and I figure it has to be crazy out there. I haven't gone there in the Summer to fish. Too wild for an old man like me!
I inflate full crawlers. If you go to my fishing tips playlist, my clips 'Rigging up for reservoir trout" and "my general technique for deep water reservoir trout" both have overlapping information and go into detail as to exactly how I rig up. For Lake Tahoe I make a couple of modifications. I bump my line up to 8lb mono and use a 6lb leader because the rocks are brutal on your line if you have a large trout running it all over them. I also bump my slip sinker up to 1/2 Oz and shorten my leaders as needed to allow for farther casting in order to reach the deep water. If you haven't fished conditions with a lot of large boulders in the water before, maybe watch my clip on avoiding snags or you could be in for a frustrating day! Good luck!
Hey Amani, been following a while and freaking love the videos. Was wondering if you're using inflated worms? Also how long do you usually make your leader line ?
Yes, I use full inflated crawlers on either 4 or 6 baitholder hooks depending on the size of the worms. Usually size 6 does it. On my fishing tips playlist, my clips "rigging up for reservoir trout" and "my general technique for deep water reservoir trout" both have overlapping information and go into detail as to how I rig up. For Lake Tahoe specifically, I up the sinker to 1/2 OZ and shorten my leaders as needed to allow for farther casting.
Not too often. I have 3 other clips where I get them from shore at Donner, Fallen Leaf Lake, and Caples Lake. This was the first time I got them from shore at Lake Tahoe but this spot has fairly deep water if you can reach it. I would suspect they can be hit there regularly outside of the crazy hot days of Summer.
@@wildernesswithamani1027 I ve caught them in Tahoe before ,but that was decades ago and using a a guide on a boat.I tried last Sept. on a boat and guide only caught kokanee using a cow bell and corn. The fish I ve seen you catch from shore there are impressive to say the least 👏
@@truewealth50 In decades of fishing all around the lake I never actually fished in it until last June. I guess I always assumed getting fish from shore in that lake was long shot at best. That assumption, at least from my standpoint, has been proven wrong. Since then, I have had great success landing quality fish.
@@wildernesswithamani1027 I have always thought the same,my last trip there I was told again that Tahoe is a extremely difficult lake to fish and that you need a experienced guide to catch. After watching you slam em I have a completly different perspective ...lol
It is my understanding that this is the case. The Nevada Regulation guide in the western region special regulation section for Lake Tahoe states that either license is good and the California regulation guide for 2021-2022 says the same under the section for fishing licenses. As with all regulations, I always encourage viewers to confirm regulations for themselves. I am not an official source of anything. If you are interested, on my fishing tips playlist I have clips that detail how I rig up, choose weights, etc. Good luck.
I'm not a big fan basically because I like the rainbows a lot better. Each one of those fish would be multiple meals and fishing for rainbows tomorrow! If I couldn't get a clean release I would have fried up some mac steaks for dinner! Glad you got into some fish. If I can get one, it makes me happy. You got two so that sounds solid to me!
Me too! I fished all around it for decades until last June And hit it solid in the first clip I put up for lake Tahoe. Since then, I've had luck almost everywhere I was able to reach at least 15 feet of water. I have several clips for Tahoe on my lakes and reservoirs playlist and my clip "rigging up for reservoir trout" on my fishing tips playlist shows in detail how I generally set up. For Lake Tahoe, I up the slip sinker to 1/2 OZ and shorten my leaders as much as necessary to get my stuff out far enough. If you haven't fished in conditions with giant boulders underwater, my clip on avoiding snags details how I deal with that myself. Hope you can get out there and fish some day. It's worth it!
I like the rainbows. I wish I had a smoker. I'd be smoking trout like there's no tomorrow! Not really feasible in my apartment complex but maybe some day....
Use a single 6 hook with crawler or power bait with better hookup success. They don’t gut hook as much. A good 8lb. Polymer line is thinner and less visible in water. Good luck .
I use the basic set up shown in my clips "rigging up for reservoir trout" and "my general technique for deep water reservoir trout". Both of those clips can be found on my 'trout fishing tips' playlist which can be accessed on my channel home page. The adjustment to that rig up I make for Lake Tahoe is that I up the slip sinker from 1/4 OZ to 1/2 OZ and I go from straight 6lb test to *lb test with a 6lb leader to help with the line withstanding being raked across the boulders when reeling in a big trout. A couple of inexpensive spinning reels allows me to have that 8lb set up ready to go. When reeling in to check or move your bait, have your rod tip high and reel in fast or you can be snagged before you know what hit you. Good luck!
@@wildernesswithamani1027 Does the clarity of lake Tahoe affect how long you make the leader line? in other words do you want your bait closer to the bottom or suspended in the water more?
@@justinlorenzen6563 I like longer leaders in Lake Tahoe when I am fishing in the areas where there are a lot of large boulders in the water so that my bait floats as high as possible in that labyrinth of rocks the large trout are cruising through looking for crawdads and minnows. In pots where the bottom is more even (sand, etc.), i don't worry about my leaders being as long. In general, I shorten my leaders as much as needed to get my stuff out as far as I need to. Harder to cast a full crawler with a longer leader so My crawler leader is usually shorter and then I use that to fish close in because I can't cast it as far as the powerbait. I don't worry about the clarity. Water depth is the thing that I am most concerned about. For example, If I determine the water is only 8-10 feet deep then I might do a 3' leader for my powerbait and a 2' leader for my nightcrawler. If the water is 20' or deeper, I will probably start out with a 5' leader for my powerbait and a 4' leader for my nightcrawler and then I will trim them if needed as the day goes on.
Great Fishing Video...was very refreshing..when you use nightcrawlers, do you inflate them so that they float..also what are your best powebait colors that you use while fishing these areas..thanks
I use the original scent yellow/orange/green swirl. You can see the details of how I set up on my clips 'rigging up for reservoir trout" and "my general technique for deep water reservoir trout" on my fishing tips playlist. I bump my sinker up to 1/2 OZ and shorten my leaders as needed for farther casting when I fish Lake Tahoe. Good Luck. Thanks for tuning in.
Nice! Even though the lot was full and cars were lining the road when I left, you still get a little sense of isolation siting out on those rocks. Totally digging that scene! Sounds like you had a good outing.
@@wildernesswithamani1027 I guess I have been lucky the last 11-years of kayaking on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe. I have only seen attractive women. No naked women at Cave Rock today. If you get there at 0545 like I did, you get the best passenger vehicle parking spot. When I left at 1030, there were no passenger vehicle parking spots. Of course there were 60-open boating spots, but it depends who is working if they allow you to park in a boating spot.

I have several Lake Tahoe clips and clips for other surrounding bodies of water on my lakes and reservoir playlist. Good luck!
Did a roadside stop and fished Donner today on my way home from visiting family in the Sac area. 5 hours and not a bite. I have a couple of clips for Donner on my Lakes and Reaservoir playlist.

I figure as long as the water is cold and you have a good deep spot it's doable. I've talked to locals who get them on Kastmasters and spoons from shore in the Winter. In 3 other clips on my Lakes and Reservoirs playlists I get Macs from shore on either nightcrawlers or powerbait at Donner, Caples, and Fallen Leaf Lakes. All when the weather was still cool and the warm weather crowds hadn't arrived yet. This spot had some good deep water if you can cast far enough to reach it but man, the boulders were gnarly!

I'm telling you, it powers you up!
Those were some beautiful surprises to run into! Nice day man, thanks for sharing! 🤘
2 nice Mack’s!! Great video! Man it’s beautiful there!! Love Tahoe!
It was so nice chilling at that spot all morning. Once it warmed up I dozed off on that flat rock and it was all good!
Thank you - tight lines 🤙
Awesome Macks from shore!
Sometimes I hit them. First time I got them in Lake Tahoe from the shore though. That spot was nice and deep.
Nice Macs! Or big macs 🙂 Amani. Can you show a video of how you cast and the countdown method?
Good luck.
Beautiful! Can’t wait to visit Tahoe in a month or two 😁
It's great out there. Find a spot and just relax!
I've never seen anyone land fish consistently from shore at Tahoe. Respect!
It's a challenge with those boulder but I have rarely been shut out since I first tried it last June. I was looking for rainbows to eat but I'll take fighting a couple Macs!
Love the videos you keep motivating me to keep fishing Tahoe hopefully I’ll get one soon
Nice fish as always 💪 can’t wait to get back out there once I get my new rod
Those rocks are gnarly to deal with but it's manageable. I didn't lose any gear to snags all morning. Came close a couple of times though!
Had to come back and watch this one cause damn that was nice !
Love your videos man very wholesome. Tight lines!
Right on. I have grown to love making them. I have been hoping to get down to Chimney Beach for a while this Spring. Soon as I saw that gate open I went right in.
Beauty place, beauty fish. Not doable for me anymore so I'll just watch. Thanks for that.
Time to get back into it as soon as I get a few health issues dealt with.
what kind of lures do you use?
and how do you get it out there? each time i go the only thing i catch is tiny rainbows
Hope that helps.
nice job
It all came together after I got out of that first shallow spot.
Have you ever try american shad fishing on sacramento or american river
Great spot! Keep up the awesome vids!!
That flat rock was prime for a nice late morning nap!
Redeemed yourself after your Crowley blowout! Nice fish!
Right. I needed something!
Great videos... question... is the worm just lying down on the bottom of the lake? What size hook / weight are you using?
Good luck!
@@wildernesswithamani1027 Thanks for the information... hope to be in Tahoe area in a couple weeks. Keep up the great videos....
Heading up there because I want naked fish! Great video, good lungs. Thanks! Staying in KB. Close enough. Did you get a Char Burger?
No, just some good shore fishing action!
@@wildernesswithamani1027 Awesome! Thank you Amani, I'll be at antelope lake this weekend! I'll let you know how it goes 🙌
Nice!!!
I was looking for rainbows to eat but I'll take fighting those any time!
the gate to heaven
Yes it is! Great morning just chilling out there by that crystal clear water. Thanks for watching.
How often do you catch Macks from shore ?
Not too often. I have 3 other clips where I get them from shore at Donner, Fallen Leaf Lake, and Caples Lake. This was the first time I got them from shore at Lake Tahoe but this spot has fairly deep water if you can reach it. I would suspect they can be hit there regularly outside of the crazy hot days of Summer.
@@wildernesswithamani1027 I ve caught them in Tahoe before ,but that was decades ago and using a a guide on a boat.I tried last Sept. on a boat and guide only caught
kokanee using a cow bell and corn.
Do you happen to know if you can fish the Nevada side of the lake with just a CA fishing license?
It is my understanding that this is the case. The Nevada Regulation guide in the western region special regulation section for Lake Tahoe states that either license is good and the California regulation guide for 2021-2022 says the same under the section for fishing licenses. As with all regulations, I always encourage viewers to confirm regulations for themselves. I am not an official source of anything. If you are interested, on my fishing tips playlist I have clips that detail how I rig up, choose weights, etc. Good luck.
Nice fish. Do mac.'s taste ok. Fished grant lake last two mornings 1 brown and 1 rainbow.
I’ve always wondered where to fish from shore at Tahoe it’s so big.
What were the night crawlers. We’re they live or was it a fake worm.
Full inflated crawlers. How I rig up, hooks I use, etc. can all be found on my 'trout fishing tips' playlist.
Mackinaw are actually pretty good eating fish, maybe better than rainbows
Personal preference thing. I love the Tahoe Rainbows. I've cooked up macs a few times. Not my favorite.
Way to go! Why did you release those macs? They are better eating them salmon
Super good smoked !!
Good luck .
Interesting.
What kind of a rig did you use?
Mack’s are great eating.
I've had them. They're nice. I love the big Rainbows out of Tahoe.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
5 star day it was!
I was at that exact spot 3 weeks ago and landed a big rainbow
Nice! Even though the lot was full and cars were lining the road when I left, you still get a little sense of isolation siting out on those rocks. Totally digging that scene! Sounds like you had a good outing.
Nude beach....”I don’t want to see anything I can’t unsee” 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm telling you, it would never be what you want to see!
I'll be up there this weekend, let's go fishing. Everything is on me. I dont know where to go or which spot is what. Would love to fish with you for a few hours if you'd be willing to.
I work weekends. I'll be searching out new water tomorrow. Just find a spot with at least 10-15 feet of water you can reach and give it a shot. Get out there really early around first light if you can. If you want to see exactly how I set up, go to my "rigging up for reservoir trout" clip on my fishing tips playlist. For lake Tahoe, I up my slip sinker to 1/2 ounce and shorten my leaders as needed to really get it out there. My clip on avoiding snags will come in handy if you aren't used to dealing with giant boulders in the water. I use heavier than usual 8lb mono with a 6lb leader to help deal with the rocks. Macs from shore. Who knew?
I figure as long as the water is cold and you have a good deep spot it's doable. I've talked to locals who get them on Kastmasters and spoons from shore in the Winter. In 3 other clips on my Lakes and Reservoirs playlists I get Macs from shore on either nightcrawlers or powerbait at Donner, Caples, and Fallen Leaf Lakes. All when the weather was still cool and the warm weather crowds hadn't arrived yet. This spot had some good deep water if you can cast far enough to reach it but man, the boulders were gnarly!
Also they are not native to Tahoe. You should keep and eat!!
I like the rainbows when it comes to eating trout. I figure let someone haul them in on a charter boat this summer!
WHO SAYS BIG MACKS ONLY COME FROM Mc DONALD'S
Tahoe was serving them up on this day!
