    Hi Amani,
Glad to see you back fishing at Lake Tahoe. The spot you're fishing the second morning looks a lot better than the day before. Safer and easier to walk around without the danger of falling. I'd like to know how these June 18 fish taste compared to those you caught in late winter months. Those two fish are really nice looking. So shinny silver. Thanks for all the advice you share, if I ever get there again, maybe I will finally catch one of those nice rainbows.

I hope you make it out there some time because those rainbows are hard fighting and delicious. The water is clean and cold so those fish taste just like winter and the meat looks awesome.

@@danfenske1067 Cave rock State Park Is fairly easy access. You'd have to scramble on some rocks to land a fish but it's not too bad. Deeper water is on the right side of the rocks, facing the lake.

@@wildernesswithamani1027 Thank You Amani. I stopped there in 2015 but wasn't fishing. Then years later I saw your video of fishing there. I have not been on the other side of Cave Rock so am unfamiliar of parking and how to get down to the water. But next time I am down that way, I will look at the other side. With the drought and the heat of this year, I may not make our annual trip to Bishop and go somewhere else that is cooler.

Where about is your second spot in this video located at further north or south of Chimney? I've fished Chimney Beach area, just north of Secret Cove, Logan Shoals and Cave Rock multiple times. I do pretty much the EXACT same thing as you, I get there at 5am, I use a 1/2oz sinker, size 18 treble with a 4ft leader for PowerBait, 3.5ft leader and a size 6 Baitholder for my inflated crawler. I get a good 20-25 count on on my casts and I shorten my leader when they're not biting for awhile. I definitely catch fish this way, but the thing is, I ALWAYS catch a small 12" stocked trout in these areas! Rarely do I hook a good 18" + wild rainbow and it seems like in all your vids you seem to be getting a good 2 or 3 fatties each time! What am I missing here? Maybe you just have great Karma with that positivity and I don't haha. I love your videos man, you've definitely inspired me many times to keep trying on the East Shore, and given me great insight on how to tweak my gear for shore fishing in Tahoe. Hopefully I can start finding spots that produce those hogs you are getting, I guess I just gotta keep searching. Thanks for any additional insights man and let me know if you ever wanna fish!

That second spot was about a mile up the road from the entrance to Sand Harbor. I don't know what the deal is with the smaller fish. I have a clip up for every time I have fished Tahoe and most of the time I get fish at least over 16". It seems like you are on the right path. On my fishing tips playlist I have a clip "rigging up for reservoir trout" that details my general set up but it sounds like you are already on the 1/2 OZ sinker and shorter leaders I use specifically for Lake Tahoe. From what you wrote I figure you just need to keep on fishing!

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  3 роки тому +1

I try to find deep water close to shore because that gives me the option of bringing my stuff in and out from deep to shallow as I try to locate fish. In most of my clips on my lakes and reservoir playlist I try to find a steep bank or fish near the dam when I'm hitting the lake from shore. In the Winter when the Lakes/reservoirs are turned over, it isn't as important to find that deeper water because the fish are often cruising shallower water. I have clips on my fishing tips playlist that, when the information is combined, might help you become better at lake fishing!

I have not researched it at all so I am not suggesting anything. I have never been to that lake and It's probably fine. Maybe do a quick search for any recent fishing reports. Personally, I had great luck at nearby Dicks Lake and ran into quite a few nice brook trout there. I caught so many fish I couldn't come close to fitting them all into the videos I shot. I like to use full crawlers typically on a size 6 baitholder hook. I keep size 4 hooks in my box because every now and then the crawlers will be giant. I have run into a few people during the colder months who use Kastmasters and other spoons with success. I see fish rise and there is a lot of bait swimming around in the water so I don't see why lures wouldn't work. I'm just lazy and let the fish come to me!

I just buy hiking boots a size too big for me to use as wading boots. I spend more time hiking around searching for new spots rather than wading so the hiking boots work great for me. They work great so far. This time of year when it's hot, you'll often see me wading more in my jeans wearing my old hiking boots.

Good thing was, at 5:45am when I got there, there was no one parked on the road and I was the only one out there. That goes for Chimney Beach also. The best time to fish ends when the crowds show up anyway.

What area do you live where you frequently visit all these lakes? Your videos are awesome and hope to one day make it out more than once a year.

I started my channel when I still lived in SoCal so I could only get to the mountains once or twice a month. I always managed that for the decades I spent living and playing down there at the Beach. For the last year and a half, I've lived in the Reno area and it has been great for fishing. I go on my days off every week to create content because most of the spots I hit are within one to two hours away. The Truckee River spots across my two playlists that feature it are far less than an hour in both States. Bishop in the Eastern Sierra is only about 3 and a half hours away. Best move I've ever made! If you can only get out there once in a year, make it count!!!!

was the one that got away the first day equal to the size of second day catch?

It would have competed for fish of the day with the larger of the two I kept. That fish sawed my 8lb test off on the rocks. I was stuck standing there with a piece of frayed line!

I’ll be in South Lake Tahoe next month. Where would you recommend the best spots for rainbows towards that part of the lake?

    • @wildernesswithamani1027

I have hit a bunch of big rainbows and a couple of Mackinaws from Cave Rock State Park all of the way to Sand Harbor. That stretch seems to have deep water all along it with exception of the Sandy Beaches I have tested. There are still a couple visible from the Chimney Beach area I haven't tried but I'll wait until it's cold to check those out. I even climbed down from the Logan Shoals Vista point and found some nice deep water. Thing is, there are giant boulder outside and under the water almost everywhere you go so be prepared to battle it all. Hiking down can be tough too. There are boatloads of people everywhere this time of year but if you can get out there at the crack of dawn there aren't any cars on the side of the road. When you leave they are parked bumper to bumper. I haven't fished towards Emerald Bay yet or towards Incline Village beyond Sand Harbor but I have the suspicion there is good deep water in both directions. I wouldn't go to Sand Harbor this time of year because of crowds but Cave Rock State Park could be good if you get there early enough and leave not too long after the sun hits the water. Stay to the boat ramp side of the rocks for deeper water. Basically, I recommend finding an area with public access where you can reach water at least a 20 count deep after your weight hits the water and get out there in the early morning twilight. I have a bunch of clips on my lakes and reservoir playlist that can give you ideas and show you what the shore looks like in a few areas. It's mostly difficult! If you haven't fished in a situation with giant boulders underwater before, my clip on avoiding snags on my fishing tips playlist might help. I didn't get snagged once today using that method! Good luck.

What boots do you recommend for that slippery terrain? My wading boots have reasonable grip, but what do you use for when you’re not using waders?

I wear high ankle hunting boots. The boots I'm wearing in this clip I just got and are 'Rocky" brand. They are waterproof and awesome for climbing around on that rugged granite.

The rainbows in Tahoe have dark pink/reddish meat that stays pink like salmon after you cook it. Had some for dinner tonight and it was awesome. This lake produces some of my favorite trout to eat.

These fish are around the usual size rainbows I get from shore. Not sure what the charter boats, regular boat owners, and guided trips are bringing in. I love getting this size fish on light tackle.
