Plus her mother was a Minister of Music and organist at their church. Both of her parents were musicians.. she grew up hearing music played and singing her entire life.
The Backgrounds are out of this world. This whole concert. Crazy talented. "Stand" is also amazing if you haven't seen the whole tiny desk concert yet. This woman can do no wrong.
I read that her father was a preacher, and she grew up singing in the church, becoming a worship pastor by age 15 so you hear that along with folky influences in her sound.
Absolute facts. *he is a preacher* I had the absolute pleasure of attending and witnessing her talent first hand for years. It was widely known throughout the church that she would be famous. ♥
Yebba is a master at using full ability of her instrument without being gaudy and OVERLY-flashy! This whole concert is a MASTERCLASS! Background vocals are PERFECT! No other word for it. My first exposure to ALL of these songs was this concert, and having heard these renditions first, the album versions just don’t compare. Lol. Omg, her CHOICES! The emotion! Vocal expression!? Pssh!
@@JamesWilliams haha such a classic video. It's SO hard to sing lead vocals when your backgrounds aren't in tune cause even if you're singing the melody with precision, it'll sound off because the background chords are off so the melody note doesn't fit into the chord/scale
True dat! I love listening to his expertise. Absolutely love it. One of my FAVORITE UA-cam channels hands down. When I get a notice, I can’t click fast enough….
The masterful backing line from the first tune (Stand) was just outta the park!! Thank you for your musicanship in your feedback about this naturally gifted vocalist and songwriter!
You are the real deal Sir!!! I appreciate some one who knows what their talking about and being able to articulate. It's so many people on line reacting to these songs and all of a sudden everyone's a voice teacher they get in the way of the one's who take it serious and that are really passionate about the craft. It's not going unoticed. Thank you again peace.
I love this breakdown of the performance. It added another layer to the musical choices being made, which has honestly made me appreciate her work even more deeply. As a instrumentalist sometimes I don’t understand the details and nuances that go into why singers make certain choices rather than others, but this helped open up my mind greatly. Thank you!
Jaron, i just LOVE how thorough you are with these analyses. You are very knowledgeable and it’s obvious that you live what you do. I be listening to music now with you in the back of my head recognizing little vocal nuances ❤
I’m so in love with her she tells a story with her voice. And everything she has been through you can tell it has build her even as a artist. You takes you through every feeling she feels. It’s almost as we are there with her in her story. Beautiful ♥️
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. She came at a time when I was looking for a new artist, with a new sound, I heard Ashley Jayy… I was super impressed with her sound and I loved her. Then I was sad because she didn’t have a lot of music out at the time and then I found Yebba, listening to how intentional she makes her notes, how she places her words, and everything is something I cannot put into words. I would love to hear her perform in a play, because her voice and how she chooses to use it tells the story. It’s a gift. It’s like eating a bunch of different food items, but making sure they don’t touch
the biggest issue i have had watching videos like this is not understanding all the technical terms teachers act like we are supposed to know. 😬 but u are an expert communicator, my friend. i followed along with the whole analysis! spectacular video!! thank you
First of all... 👏🏾 HOW 👏🏾 YOU 👏🏾 MIMICKED 👏🏾 HER 👏🏾 LIKE THAT 👏🏾 ....AS IF IT'S EASY! SANG!! ...but glad she sang Distance for your analysis...my favorite song of hers and thank you. ❤️
Wowww I am so appreciative to have a greater understanding of this amazing performance by YEBBA. I thought the tiny desk was beautiful but you've made it shine! Love this
I'm a big fan of Yebba and this was such an amazing educational video! Glad I came across your channel! Will definitely be watching more to hopefully improve my singing a bit :)
You are just amazing to learn from. I really appreciate how you take the time to really explain and break everything down. Just wonderful in every way!
I just happened to click on this Tiny Desk Concert. I had never heard of Yebba before this concert. But omg her voice, the tone -- I couldn't get enough of it. So I am a fan and I am so glad that you did this analysis on her. Jaron, you are so good at this. Thank you.
PJ Morton introduced Yebba on one of his albums. Great artist collaborate to complete the genres. SHE sings with such control. YOU can sing and it allows vocal exercises to take place.
This has to be the best analysis I've heard ever. You give so much useful information and your own voice ... Yes! I love Yebba. My goodness she takes it straight to church with many of her live performances.
I get recommended so many voice teacher reactions and most of them make me wonder why I didn’t just watch the performance itself. You are doing a fantastic job showing genuine (not forced) enthusiasm, making insightful comments AND keeping the viewer engaged by not talking for 4 minutes every pause. Subscribed!
I definitely agree with the Aretha and Clark Sisters inspiration, but there were many times I could close my eyes and swear it was Jazmine Sullivan singing.
Thank you so much for this. I knew something was different but still very beautiful and you explained it for me. Now I can just listen and enjoy without racking my uneducated brain about what's happening 😂😂
I just heard the album after seeing this and the tiny desk performance. And I can hear the subtle changes to that of the album (thanks to your analysis) Live sounds more intimate and has more 'call and response' and different colours in the sound. Album is so good.
yesssss! also, can we talk about her Louie Bag (Live at Electric Lady) and the part midway through the song where she dips into this lower far-off voice? ughhhhh she's so amazing. would love to hear you analyze stuff from that performance!
Yebba has said that her biggest influences are Aretha and the Clark Sisters. You are right on sir 👏🏼👏🏼
I was literally getting Aretha vibes from her music 🤝
Ah! Ok! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Plus her mother was a Minister of Music and organist at their church. Both of her parents were musicians.. she grew up hearing music played and singing her entire life.
Precisely.
This makes a whole lot of sense
The Backgrounds are out of this world. This whole concert. Crazy talented. "Stand" is also amazing if you haven't seen the whole tiny desk concert yet. This woman can do no wrong.
She needs a live studio album
I'd be a HAPPY camperrrrrr.
I just love how you’re doing all her runs and everything so effortlessly…. sheesh
Haha! Well thank ya!
He’s black lol
@@TheTubes4u Ah, that explains why all black people effortlessly make extremely technical and complicated vocal runs from birth.
Oh, wait. They don’t.
IKR!
This woman right here; OMGGGG..
Yebba/Jazmine Sullivan collab
a vocal battle in a song that we havent heard ln a long time but will blend so beautifully. we need!
I read that her father was a preacher, and she grew up singing in the church, becoming a worship pastor by age 15 so you hear that along with folky influences in her sound.
Interesting
Def hear the worship leader sound
You can definitely hear the gospel influence in her voice but also the country and folk she’s from Arkansas
she is a cogic girl

On her My Mind performance when she said, "anybody know what I'm talking about" I KNEW Yebba came from church...
I thought the same!!
Yebba's vocals are ethereal as usual but can we get into the band and the background vocalists 😭😭🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 they did that with Yebba.
And we have seen what happens when the background is not up to her standards. ua-cam.com/video/40Td-uVdu-8/v-deo.html

YOU BETTER SING JARON!!!!!!! I have watched that tiny desk like 20 times lol.
Hahaaaa thank you! 🙌🏾

The depth of your knowledge of the music makes your review just as beautiful as her voice.
Yebba did all of this! So beautifully executed.

at the end of the day-Yebba is a church kid🤷🏽♂️
This dude knows his ish.
I love that she used 2 men and 1 woman as her background singers. I think it brought more depth versus height to the overall sound.
The alto/soprano in me was PLEASED to see that as well.
I have seen Yebba straight up tell her background singers..."Stop...hold on..I don't like that"...in a concert.She don't play & they be SPOT on😁
She’s said everything she knows about singing, she learned from listening to The Clark Sisters. Your ear is impeccable!

Love your analysis, but must give you props for your own voice. Those effortless runs! 👏👏👏
Anytime Yebba starts taking off, I have to call her by her government name, like ALRIGHT ABBEY!!!! singggg
