When I listen to her it’s like I’m transported to a smoky bar in the 40’s or 50’s having a drink at the bar with a cigarette. And I’ve never been to a bar, lol. She’s that good!!
Does that mean you're drink at home? Have you ever had a cigarette?
Yess!!!
Exactly (minus the cigarette)😂
I don't even drink or smoke and I'm sitting there too.
yes!
Difference between someone who can sing and someone who actually uses their voice as an instrument love it!
I totally agree with you and her voice is beautiful, glad she was a nominated in the Grammys.
Precisely 😌
@@philipbahia2707 won two Grammys!
@@Simplenotion I'm glad she did and she deserves it.
Yuh
She won her Grammy last night Best New Artist! Congratulations 🎊
She won 2 actually.
And Best Jazz Vocal Album!
❤️!!
Thats sad she has to be validated by some demonic award ceremony for people to appreciate her talent
@@godlesspeacesign8852 It's concerning that you refer the Grammy as demonic. Granted, the removal of "Gospel" in order to undiversify the nominations was an abomination; however, it is an industry standard and the recognition of outstanding talents is not missed.
Her range is incredible!!! She's 23 years old but the greatness in her voice makes her sound much older!!! Simply amazing 🙌🏾🙏🏾💪🏾✊🏾👌🏾
SHE'S 23?!?!
@@whereskevan yeah bro, 23 years old!!!!👌🏾
Yes. Such rich tones..She sounds at least 20 years older! 🦋🌹
@@ms.christheevangelist so true!!!🙏🏾☺
A young jazz singer with an old soul for great, classic music.
A Nancy Wilson classic….
Nancy looking down smiling and indeed proud her of breathtaking performance…❤️🔥❤️
I LOVE Nancy Wilson's version.
Love how Nancy delivered this song with so much sass. I feel Nancy would approve ❤
#Rmaisai...THERE IS NO ONE LIKE " NANCY THE BABY"......❤️❤️❤️
NANCY ALL DAY!! This is beautiful, but Nancy's version is a masterpiece 🥰🥰😍.
Love Nancy however Nancy’s version is a remake as well. I love Chante moore’s version as well
Give her all the GRAMMYS 👑 It's her time 🤎
Definitely, her voice is so smooth and jazzy, that’s definite win the Grammys
Yes!!!!😊
she's nominated this year. I hope she wins
@@khamikins She just did. Best New Artist.
She just got one!
She sounds like a combo of Sarah Vaughan and Anita Baker very beautiful voice , a star is born
I hear that, too.
I agree 100% ( A star is born)
I hear mostly Sassy, maybe her range or phrasing but i just heard her for the first time....in time we will be be comparing others to her, I suppose.
Guess I need to get an album and catch up, eh?
What a blessed talent!
Sarah Vaughn is my fav American female voice of the pop era. Along with Dionne Warwick, Chaka Khan in her prime and Phyllis Hyman.
@@beyourself2444 As for as a Jazz female singer of all times it would be Sarah Vaughn
Sarah and Ella when you hear her sing more you will hear Ella. She's fab and lovely.
The control and storytelling, amazing. Ella, Sarah, Nneena incantations
The Sarah notes are so very present but she did some magic on this track that was all her. I needed that. Don’t need another Sarah or Ella.
@@cathybroadus4411 I am not comparing her to Sarah or Ella. I was noting the familiarity in essence of those iconic predecessors. BTW we could always use another Sarah and Ella.
@@josephgreene4174 no that was MY error. This performance cured me, but you still feel some Sarah touches.
Yes I am excited about any Jazz vocalists but not a clone of Ella or Sarah.
@@cathybroadus4411 Even still it’s not that easy to “clone” Ella and Sarah
So much control in her voice. So much control in the pitch. Wow! She is dancing on that vocal range.
Omg a Samara Joy and Lalah Hathaway duet!!! 😳😳. The world wouldn't be ready!!!
Ooooo that would be a good one!!😍
There's a huge difference between singing a song and interpreting a song in your own expression. This young lady with a softie, pied piper voice has that special and unique quality and at such a young age. Nancy, Ella, Sarah and Lena are smiling down from heavens jazz cafe
beautifully said
And Diana Washington too!
@@inspirebymikaeli3502 Thank you, how could I forget her
In the world of hip-hop, something very special is going on.
Profound statement
@@elenarose3102 22 others didn't miss the point. LoL
I feel like I'm in sitting a classy bar/lounge with a glass of wine
She has such a MATURE VOICE AND DELIVERY!!!!! She is mesmerizing! 🤩🤩🤩🤩🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾
What an amazing voice. Praying she has a long, prosperous and successful career
Jen really made an incredibly important decision to have Samara on. Ms Joy is one of the most beautiful ❤️ of any new singer today.
Her rendition of nancy wilsons song from the ‘60s “Guess who i saw today” was absolutely spectacular!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
She has the IT factor! I hope she wins at least 1 Grammy, preferably both!
Your wish came true!!!
It came true! She won 1!
@@Yahvessel853 TWO!!! She won Best new artist and Best jazz vocal performance
@@Simplenotion correct! She won the first one at the Grammy Premiere Ceremony which was my time of commenting & another one at the more GRAND event of the night. Congratulations to her. Well deserved!
She won both of her nominations!!
As a Nancy Wilson fan I am extremely pleased. I feel like she would've loved this.
Me too. I am so shocked that Samara makes me feel what those vocal queens of old always have made me feel when I hear their voices.
I was nervous at first I wasn't sure where she was going with it but then I became mesmerizing. I too am a fan of Fancy Miss Nancy. I am impressed. Chante Moore did a nice version some years ago as well. Nothing like listening to Nancy on a cozy nite home alone with the fire place on. Samara is gifted.
I am so shocked and gobsmacked by her voice !!!! I’m such a huge lover of jazz & blues; Ella, Billie, Nina 😱🙀many others ; jazz in general
Her voice is so shocking; beautiful, original, gorgeous, soulful, I have no words. This is truly a great jazz original that may have her name amongst these greats. Just wow !
🙏🏼👍⭐️💗💕💕⭐️like omg !!!! Holy Sheeeeooot!!!!
Couldn't agree more.......
Yea!!!! That Baby is good Jazz is back!!!!!
@@carolmark4556 it never left... 🍷
Sang Samara Joy💐 Ella, Billie, & Nancy would be proud 👏🏾
She's a throwback to a bygone era when singers really sang! I'm a hip hop and underground head but a lover of 40s swing and 60s Jazz...this woman is amazing!!
AMAZZZZZZING ♥️♥️♥️
She has a different style of voice when it comes to jazz. Smoot, suttle, and great to listen to over a steak and a glass of wine
Yessssssssss. Love it!
I like her voice style, she can sing in a fancy steak restaurant, and glass of wine 🍷
As I just poured a glass while listening lol
I can enjoy listening to her while drinking my cafe latte.
This!
Man I really didn't know there were new artists doing jazz music like this. She's reviving a dying genre
It wasn't dying. Check out Cecile McLorin Salvant, Lucy Yeghiazaryan, Vanisha Gould, Veronica Swift, Anaïs Reno - other great young jazz singers on the scene.
Congrats to Samara, for her Grammy Award, and I heard her first on this show. Truly an old soul in this young woman’s body. Great to see the return of this genre of music. What a range!
We are witnessing greatness.
Could listen forever.
The emergence of Miss Samara will continue to brighten up the jazz scene for decades to come.Thank you for living the same times!
The hair, the outfit, the aura, loove it!!
Her voice is like telling stories while sitting by the fireplace. It’s cold outside flout this blanket and this coca are keeping me warm type of voice I ADORE her
The timbre of her voice is incomparable, unmistakable ❤, goes hand in hand with how she conveys jazz. Slightly reminds me to one of those "big names" from the past: Sarah Vaughan, Ella, Billie, but still unique in her own way... I am mesmerized...
...from a fellow jazz singer from Portland, OR
So much control, and mastery of her voice.
She has so much depth and maturity on her voice as well, sounds like a much older and more experienced singer.
Damn! Did you guys hear that high note at the end? The range! Especially considering that she was doing some really low notes for the first half of the song. I was actually coming here to comment that her vibrato is very old time, and she pulls that out on me at the last second! Ha ha.
The Grammys got it right when they gave Samara Joy the award for Best New Artist. I’m so glad to have seen her live twice in small, intimate venues and she even signed one of my albums by her. But now that she’s blown up, she will likely start doing larger venues with high ticket prices. Love Samara Joy!❤
I am so envious you got to see her in a small intimate venue.
I've known her and her family for years. I've worked with her father (another amazing vocalist), many times in the past. I can't tell you how proud we all are of her Grammy win. She's only 23 and has the voice and spirit of an "old soul". Congratulations, Samara Joy! Keep going up and praising God as he elevates you to higher heights. The eyes of the world are watching and listening. You have more extraordinary work to do....
Chills and tears!!! She is utterly devastatingly good. Wow!!!
Every note was placed with purpose and perfection.
Her voice is so beautiful and she sang really great 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🎵🎵🎵🎵🎶🎶🎶🎶!!!!!!!!!!
Congrats Samara Joy! You are so deserving of this win.
Yes !
Such a powerful voice!
@ Brenda........She may have that range in this video it's not on display..
@@ronaldmontgomery2079 Lie again. 3:43-3:55.
Amazing. even Nancy Wilson would be proud.
Her style and voice really reminds me of the late Nancy Wilson.
THE original singer of this tune!!!!!
That's exactly who she reminds me of Ms Nancy Wilson my Boyhood Crush 👑💗👍🏽
@@allanc1894 Nancy Wilson actually recorded that song many years ago.
Absolutely nothing alike. Just look up multiple videos of Ms. Wilson's performances on UA-cam. Style, voice, vocalization, and interpretation are COMPLETELY different. This is SARAH VAUGHN all the way through.
@@DS9Sisko I agree, her voice and style is more like Sarah Vaughan, although Sarah could sing in different styles. I have to watch more of Samara--I have happened to see that Samara won a Grammy last night as best new artist. I think Sarah Vaughan is the greatest female singer there has been. My current favorite is Jona Viray (of the Philippines).
This is one of the best performances I’ve watched in a long time. It was complete.
She deserved the award. That was expected. Sooner or later it would come true. 1:27
The pleasure was all mine.
GREAT VOICE.
right on Jennifer for letting so many people hear this wonderful young lady for the first time on your show.
I first heard Samara Joy McClendon last year and I hurried and purchased her cd. Love her and rooting for her to win 2 Grammys
Her voice and range is ear satisfaction… Nina Simone indeed 🎵🎼🎶
I love her voice she sings like the old jazz back in the day I would put it up there behind Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan and all of that and her voice is so smooth I'm just enjoying it I love it 😊😊
So young with an old soul....I love it! I love the classics and will have to get her cd. I now know why she won Best New Artist at the Grammy's last night. Awesome voice!
THIS...! THIS IS THE SOUND OF POPULAR MUSIC (JAZZ) THAT WE'VE BEEN WANTING!
For this young sistar to have the voice, that can take us to a place of time where Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, Josephine Baker, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin were crooning our hearts.
I'D SAY, SAMARA, YOU ARE A RARE GEM AND VERY DESERVING OF THE LOVE YOU ARE RECEIVING...
#IndigoMoorMars
Is everybody forgetting my namesake, Dinah Washington?
This is my favorite song from her album! She's incredible.
I can't hear Guess Who I saw Today without thinking about Nancy Wilson so it is wonderful to hear this young singer cover this classic from Nancy's repertoire. I definitely hear Miss Sarah Vaughan's influence and I think that would have impressed Miss Wilson also. Keep the Music playing!!
Exceptional Vocals….and 23 years of age… The best is yet to come .🌺🌺🌺👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🙏🏽💕💕💖🎵🎶🎤
DAMN , WHERE HAS SHE BEEN, LOVE IT
I don't know where she's been, but I know where she's going--- with a voice like that!
Now, this is what a real singer sounds like
Shhhhheeeesh!!! The future of Jazz is in great hands!
She's making Nancy Wilson and Ella Fitzgerald very proud
How could you forget Sarah Vaughn
@@dennismclaurin1487 And Nina Simone
OMG!!!! SHE IS AMAZING!!!! 👏👏👏💐💐💐🤎🤎🤎
Absolutely fabulous and fantastic. I heard some old school blue's and jazz in a young lady . She blew me away. She gave me that old Billy Holiday sound with a new twist of high pitch. I'm buying that album. I love her sound😍😍😍😍
She has an incredible range; I love her lower register!
Samara is the whole deal.. musicianship, voice from Heaven, storytelling, perfect ear and communication.. 😊🎶❤️ get those awards, Samara!
Flawless, stupendous, mellifluous , spellbinding! 🌟What a beautiful rendition sung with her own personal phrasing and style‼️❤️🔥💥🔥👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
That FIRST GUESS....SARAH LOIS VAUGHAN ALL DAY LAAAWD 😩
Her voice sounds so beautiful 😍😍😍😍😍🙌🏾💪🏾👑
Here voice is simply beautiful and her singing style is sheer elegance❤
This young lady is the reincarnation of Ella, Sarah, and Nancy! Got my tickets and I can't wait to experience this legend in the making ❤
BEAUTIFUL.....Forget streaming, I purchased her vinyl album.
Just beautiful 👏🏾
Beautiful voice amazing talented Queen !!❤❤ wow!!
I like her voice style, she can sing in a fancy steak restaurant, she has a Magical voice, so amazing
She'll have no problem singing for her supper
Glad to see the Academy awarded the Grammy to Samara ! True talent 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Can we appreciate the Pianist here...
Wow!! she just brought back memories with that song. my mom used to listen to that song a lot when I was younger. Love her voice. she does old-school very well
I think I was about 15 the first time I heard Nancy Wilson sing this song. I was smart enough to pick up what she was singing about lol. Been loving this song every since.
What an incredible tribute to Nancy Wilson. I know she's smiling in approval. Yes Miss Samara Joy I will be picking up your cd.
The pianist enhances this song making it more captivating.
I LOVe Love her, Ahhhmazing!!! Thank you, Jennifer!!! 🎶🎶❤❤
I hear a little of Sarah Vaughn . She did a beautiful performance of this classic Nancy Wilson.
Chante Moore records that song about 15 years ago. Her version is nice.
CHante Moore's rendition is AWESOME!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
She did win the Sarah Vaughn competition
I am a fan. Simply a fan. I felt all of her voice from the first phrase.
I love Jennifer's admiration and comment at the end. This baby is only 23, y'all. It is so important to have a group of sisters that will protect her and make sure the industry doesn't take advantage of her.
Elegance in music 🎶
She is so gorgeous and her voice just takes me to another place...beautiful
Give her them grammies. She is brilliant. Never heard of her before the grammies but she already has a fan. So much perfection aint even real. Thank God we are witnessing the born of a new star. TRUE STAR!!! Lord have mercy ❤️
I think Jennifer Hudson should have won the BEST talk show award HANDS DOWN 👏👏👏🏆
SHE WON!!!! Thank you Jesus… we are getting back to… SINGING… BEAUTIFULLY!!! ❤🙏🏽✝
And don't have a lot of dancers on stage?....real music
Her two Grammy wins this past Sunday for Best New Artist and Jazz Vocal Album has put her on the map and reintroduce her to a new wider audience like myself. Never heard of her until last Sunday and saw a comment on facebook post that she had appeared on JHUD in January 2023 so I found the performance.
My God she is only 23 years old and definitely embodies old school jazz singers with a few new ones like--Nancy Wilson, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Diana Krall, Diane Schurr, Billie Holiday, etc. I am sure Nancy Wilson is smiling down on her as she doing a lovely rendition of a favorite song of mine from Ms. Wilson -"Guess Who I Saw Today". I look forward to hearing from this young lady for years to come.
wow…… i love her omg - it’s like being a child again ❤❤❤ i wish my dad was alive - he would love this
This is what you call *GIFTED* NOT talented but _GIFTED_
The tone of her voice is beautiful and classy
a Newbie - taking control of one of the most popular show/jazz tunes - best wishes
don’t know who she is but shes singing one of my favorite tunes
Jazz vocals is my favorite genre of music. So happy to see this young lady cover Nancy Wilson's classic.
Thank You Samara Joy! You are introducing Jazz to our younger generation and I am so grateful.
WOW!!!!
Absolutely amazing voice, a true instrument, I'm sure Nancy Wilson, Phyllis Hyman and Billie Holiday are all proud.
She has a sublime voice and a masterful command of her instrument. I could listen to her all day...every day...forever.
Wow major Sarah Vaughan vibes!!! Love it! The fact that she’s 23 is even more impressive!!
Great beautiful voice. 😍❤️🎵🎶
Simply beautiful. Nancy Wilson would be so proud of this artist ❤❤❤️I am.
When singing vs. Yelling a song wins 🥰🥰
I got an invitation on "smule" from Samara Joy. and I must confess with shame that I did not know her yet. But that's about to change soon! what a beautiful voice and great performance. wow.
Social Call and If You Never Fall In Love with Me are my 2 favorite songs. Please see her in concert if she is nearby. 😍😍😍😍
Beautiful maserize..remind of the great jazz singers:)
Reminiscent of Dinah Washington, Nancy Wilson, and Ella Fitzgerald. Luv it❤
She's incredible, not only talented but an old soul for sure. This is something we expect from a highly seasoned artist. Unbelievable.
