Worked great. Have version 1.30 and my black cartridge was just showing low, not out. Important step missing is how to get to the screen shown at 1:53. For me... I opened cover and then at top of lcd screen was little white on black textbox that says "Cover is Open >". Had to click on that little black textbook to get to same same screen as 1:53. After that I could follow your steps. Thanks OP!
Updated to the lastest firmware on my L3270CDW as of 1/20/24 (V1.35 MAIN, V1.14 SUB1) and this toner reset method works just fine. Remember, there's also a battery on the toner drum chip that can go bad, as well as a mechanical switch that flips when the toner drum claims to be empty. Each of those can trigger the replace toner error.
Just want to thank you. I had enough toner for hundreds of pages left in the printer, but after a system restore the toner showed as nearly empty. That would have been two hundred Euros to print a few pages. Brother ought to put this information with the printer.
Thank you so much for your help. I canceled the cartridge order. My black cartridge showed full to the top after I reset it. Great instructions, I played your video a couple of times and paused it as need it. I did try a couple times as the first time the screen arrows didn't work so it took me off the reset screen. We just have to be patient, follow the directions and try a couple times. Thank you again.
I've just tested and it still works, thanks a lot. ( firmware versions : main version 1.30 - sub1 version 1.13 ). It did not work at the first try.. I had to repeat it several times and as described in the comments I had to close and reopen the lid until it worked. The order of the buttons was back 1st then cancel, then release then back.
Thanks a bunch! I mistakenly installed the black cartridge into the wrong slot when changing 2 colors. The black cartridge thereafter was being read as empty, when in fact it was brand new. Multiple attempts to reset (just like you said) were unsuccessful. Your method worked perfectly on my MFC 8900 CDW.
Thanks for this it worked perfectly apart from one extra step - when I opened the cover a yellow bar on top of the screen indicated the cover was open and I had to tap on the car to get the same screen shown in your video. After that it was exactly as described in the video.
Thanks a lot, it was a little bit complicated for me in getting the reset menu. Hopefully, following will be clear for others. Toner reset menu : 1.Open printer cover 2.Keep screen on yellow page (cover is open) 3. press Back + x (no need to hold) Release both, then immediate press back. Then rest is shown in the video.

This worked for me, but one question.... Once I really do have to replace the toner cartridge, will I need to reset the counter again? Or does the printer do this automatically when the cartridge is actually replaced?
CAREFUL! After upgrading to the latest firmware (1.27), this method no longer works!
