These smoke chicken drumsticks are so versatile and easy! Just for beginners Bbq I like to use mesquite pellets or other fruit woods, but maple is also a great choice. Use your favorite BBQ rub. Letting the drumsticks air dry in the refrigerator overnight, combined with a higher smoking temperature, helps prevent rubbery skin that is common when smoking chicken. Serve with your favorite BBQ sauce, if desired.

This classic, simple technique and method will help ensure you get juicy meat, crispy skin, and lots of flavor on your smoked chicken legs.

Friends, Bbq chicken legs are some of the easiest things to make on the smoker. And, as mentioned above, they're relatively cheap as well. Definitely agree, a 100 pound grown man probably isn’t cooking the good stuff!!
Linebacker? This man is straight O-Line! Hell yea!
Linebacker my ass! That there is a nose guard and he will destroy you
Bro!!! All these pros out there. Youre the one to follow. But don't be shy. Let's get this channel rolling!
Thank you. That means a lot. Let do this!!!!!!
The quick recap of exactly how and when and what temp at the end made me a subscriber. Nicely done.
Thank you.
Second that!
3rd!
Love this video straight to the point instead of wasting 20 minutes🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you.
I love that you recap the times and temps!!!! Subscribing!!!!! Smoking drumsticks 🍗 tomorrow
That cornstarch trick is absolutely genius. The biggest problem with smoking chicken is the rubbery skin. Wow. What a hack.
Works great with oven baked wings. That’s my Super Bowl treat- extra crispy wings without the grease.
Going to try this in my new Traeger tonight…
I comeback every time I cook these lol. I always for get time and temp
I’m glad I can help.
Thank you, I don't like chicken very much. But, I used your recipe to cook Chicken legs for my wife. She ate 4 pieces.
I'm new to pellet grills and found this video after going to a BBQ through down and one of the contestants advised to start off with some sort of dark meat like chicken legs. Followed your instructions, but used Sweet Baby Ray's instead as that's what I had on hand. Turned out great! I haven't seen anyone else using corn starch but can't imagine not using it. Great recipe and great video bro!
Thank you I love reading comments like this one. That’s what this channel is all about. I’m glad I can help
Thanks for posting the temps and times . Traeger newbie here!!
I’m glad I can help.
Thank you for this video. I am going to try chicken legs for the first time tomorrow in the Traeger. Chicken legs are half the price of wings right now. Appreciate the simple instructions. I have subscribed.
Thank you for subscribing. I’m glad I can help out.
I tried this chicken on my pellet smoker it was the best chicken I’ve ever made thanks for the video
I’m so glad to hear this. This is why I do this.
The recap is next level all UA-camrs should do that
Thanks I’m glad you liked it.
Man you hit a a home run with this Bbq chicken. I’ve been to famous Dave restaurant and it’s some good bbq.
I live close to where Dave is from in Wisconsin. I believe the first one was in Hayward WI. There is on in Duluth MN that I have been to pretty good.
Just subbed, trying this on my new 22Pro I got yesterday! We hittin this tonight!! Thanks bro!
Bbq Dave’s spitfire is the best hands down
They closed the Famous Dave's in Tulsa OK. It made me sad. It didn't realize you could still get the sauce! Thank you sir!
Yea they sell them at Walmart
Thanks for adding the details. Temp, time, etc. Can’t wait to try it.
Hope you enjoy
Thanks for the video! I dont use pellet grills ever so having this explained Step by Step was very helpful, thanks again! Gonna make these tomorrow!
I’m glad I can help
I’m finishing the first burn off on my Pit Boss Smoker and then I’m making these drumsticks just like you did!
I use Famous Dave too, they just came out here in Colorado with Texas BBQ sauce as an additional flavor, very peppery it’s a favorite now
Wow I haven’t tried that flavor yet.
You sir are my new favorite griller
Thank you. And welcome to the channel
Your recap at the end is perfect! Thanks for this video. Got a new subscriber in me 🙂
Thanks for the sub!
Going to try out this recipe for Memorial Day 2024! Looks like a winner!
Great job bro, seasoning up my new Traeger now and I’m going to throw some legs and thighs on for the first cook.
Congrats on the new grill.
Thank you, I have made this 3 times and it is amazing each time.
Thanks so much for this video! We recently got a pellet smoker and I’m slowly learning. Can’t wait to make these legs tonight! I definitely subscribed 🥰

Congrats on your new traeger.
Thank you for taking the time for this. It is very informative.
Thank you. I’m glad I’m able to help.
Oh man I’m gonna have to try this today. I don’t have a fancy grill but I have a thermometer I’ll leave in it to try to maintain the temp.
You dont need a fancy grill to make this. What ever you have will work. You got this.
Thanks so much! I will definitely try your recipe for father's day. Happy father's day!
Thank you and I hope you had a good one too.
I agree with Dave's bbq sauce being the best. And devil's spit Is very hot... but awesome
Definitely agree , famous Dave’s is where it’s at.
Love famous Dave’s sauce.
Str8 to the point video!
I Like the recap... thanks!
Thank you. I’m glad you enjoyed the video.
I have a pit boss and am going to try this for my girls tonight thanks for the informative video!!! 🤠🤘🏻
I’m glad I can help.
Did these on my Traeger, turned out pretty good. The skin was kind of rubbery but maybe I didn’t do enough corn starch. I’m going to try Olive oil next. Thanks for the video, you did a good job btw.
Honestly, if you just apply a good rub, but still follow his smoking instructions, you're going to have some good food.
That's a traeger thing, cook them to like 180. Or put in airfryer after
Thank you for this great recipe.
Your welcome. I’m glad you liked my video.
Just gave this a try, came out pretty good! IDK if the corn starch did anything as the skin was kinda rubbery but otherwise the family was impressed!! Maybe a higher temp? IDK my pit boss always seems to struggle to maintain temp. Ended up being around 285-290 most of the cook.
I’m happy to hear that it came out great.
Great video.
Glad you enjoyed it
@@BeginnersBBQ I just subscribed to your channel. I will try this recipe next time.
Good video.
Thanks for the visit
Thanks man doing this right now!!! I also got that same bbq sauce. I’m doing ribs this weekend for Memorial Day and using that sauce.
Nice. How did they come out?

thanks definitely going to try these
Saludos desde Torreón, Mexico. Thanks for this, bro.
Very good channel brother! You got a new sub and like. And ❤️ I'm throwing on some huge chicken legs on the green mountain Daniel bone
.excited can't wait! Thank you my friend..great Great video
Looks good I'll be trying tomorrow
Hold up though....you can't get smoke @ 300. Your pellets are simply burning to maintain the temp. I'm sure these legs come out great but I'll be using my smoke tube if I'm going that high on temp.
Smart, not that many know to get smoke on a pellet you have to keep it low or on your smoke setting. Smoking this chicken fully would’ve taken more than the hour 15 he took. Still, making food like this is quick and a better tasting chicken than grilled or oven! Your thoughts?
A table spoon of cornstarch?????? Bro that was like half a cup
Your reaction makes me want to buy a Traegar.
🤣
Love this guys spirit
Thanks so much man! I’m trying it right now!!
I’m glad I can help. Only advice I can give you right now, is let the internal temp reach 180
Like the recap it helps a lot
I’m glad I can help
For a good BBQ sauce, look for one without high fructose corn syrup as the first ingredient.
Or none at all
@@tomabbott5815 exactly. I should have phrased that differently. No hfcs.

That looks great! U ever butterfly the drumsticks?
@@elmaschingon41 no I haven’t done that yet.
Using your recipe on 20 lbs of legs going into the Timberline XL for my dudes at work!
Hell yea!!! Let me know how it comes out.
@@BeginnersBBQ Came out great bro. Did 48 drums. Mango habanero/devils spit mix, Rib Rack hot honey, Sweet baby rays garlic parm, and Kinders teriyaki👌🏼. Ran 300 for about 50-55 mins to 165-175(some drums were twice the size as the others) and 15-20 mins after saucing! Thanks again for the corn starch tip!
@@gsairborne man I’m glad to hear that. It’s sounds delicious
Dinner 🍽
Did he just say scorn starch? Bro I'm dying :)))). Thanks for the tip though. I do have corn starch though, gonna try the recipe.
lol 😂
300 °F (148 °C) for 1 hour.
Internal temp should be 165 - 170 °F (74 - 76 °C)
Roll through BBQ sauce.
Add back for 15 mins.
Completed temp should be around 175 °F (80 °C)
Love the recap
good video brother, ty for the help! look forward to more vids
No problem, glad I can help.
Recap=subscribers.
Great video. The legs look awesome. Keep smoking!

Thank you 🙏
Well done sir
Thank you.
Super helpful! Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Man you made that chicken look good
You know it’s going to be good when the Pitt master can barley breathe after every other word 😅😂
Yeah Devils spit is the best. I make those with my smoked meatballs
That sounds good.
Thank you gonna make a dish for the little ones
Can you specify what temp to look for at that 1 hour mark? Thanks!
Should be around 150-160. Then you add the bbq sauce and once there done, they should be at 170 internal
Olive oil crisp the skin too😀
Yes it does. Next time that what I’m doing.
Wholesome video man. 👍🏽
Glad you enjoyed it!
What are the dry ingredients first put on? Flour? Flour, salt and pepper? Did you add the corn starch to the other mystery ingredients or directly to the legs. I am a true beginner.
It was bbq rub and corn starch
Good video, great food.
Thank you.
Made some awhile ago following your video, just using no cornstarch and different seasoning. They turned out fucking great.
Making some today also and came back to this vid to follow instructions. Gonna have to try out that sweet and spicy famous daves bbq sauce soon tho!
I’m glad it worked out for you.
Oh yum
Got my chicken in the smoker praying it’s good
Started the video cutting straight to the good part!!! A big BITE! 😊
Glad you liked it.
oh yeah brother
How have you been?
@@BeginnersBBQ Been doing OK been real busy over the summer getting the motorhome ready to go to glacier with my portable Traeger
Love watching your stuff brother

@@BeginnersBBQ Glacier national Park it’s in Montana
So I have a gas grill… what I do🥲🥲… and most of the time I see people flip their chicken leg.. any advice on that
I would put the chicken legs on the second grill grates. And cook it there and once the chicken gets to 160 internal temp, move it down to the main grates do get that char grill look and taste.
Once you put the chicken in do you flip the chicken?
No I don’t
1:49 300 degrees for 1 hour and 15 min to 1 hour and a half.
You’re getting winded from prepping drums?
Should I skip the corn starch if the legs I have are skinless?
Yea you should skip it.
What was the temp you set it at
Damn those look good.
They where a hit with the family.
What temp o. The grill?
