Wow! Just finished mine, very easy and works great!! The hardest part is actually getting the backing plastic off the Velcro…keep trying, it does separate. Great tip, thanks!!
Have been thinking about looking into these and the different options. Sometimes it seems like some places are just charging too much for something so simple and cheap to make. They could be better quality though.... but for the most part, if something is made for guns there's always a mark up in the price and sometimes it's several times more than it should cost. You'd think that something made to go under people's feet as they stand and walk all day, then it should be durable enough to last a lifetime as a holster wedge. Have heard the gel one's work good too. I think they're more expensive though, but really have no idea.
THanks for this video! I got an appendix carry holster for my cz p01 with a light and it hurts hike hell. Its either digging into the inside of my thigh as I walk or it feels like its going to crush certain areas if i move it more central. Ive been looking for a way to DIY a foam wedge because i dont feel like paying $30 for one.
I've tried those closed cell foam pads. They work well but over several months compress so that they have to be replaced. That's what got me thinking about silica gel. It holds its shape basically forever.
These work OK. They help with avoiding printing and with comfort too. The wedge can be moved more to the front to help rotate the grip into the body and work with a wing to further pull it in. Getting the Velcro to stay stuck on the fabric inside of this heel wedge is a bit difficult. You forgot to mention that the underside and outside of the wedge is lined with stickum designed to help keep these in place inside a shoe. It can be removed with alcohol or other goo-dissolving cleaners. I used a Clorox-wipe wet-nap and some soap & water to get it all off so it doesnt end up rubbing off all inside my pants I see why you painted it but did the paint hold up over time or chip/peel off? So far the first day it feels great. I'll hold back judgement until it has proven to be a long term solution.
Currently looking for wedge/wedges because my holster isn't flat. There's a channel sticking up throughthe middle for the olight minis handle, also it's the retention point. I love this idea I just don't think it will work for me. I think I need a thin one on my left side of the and a little wider one on the right.
Nicely done video. Informative and to the point. User review would be nice, do you still recommend this material or is it not comfortable and should buy different material?
Thanks. I still like it and recommend it. The only issue is that the velcro on the holster tends to peel at the bottom edge so I've replaced it twice in a year. That would be an issue no matter what wedge I used and glue doesn't seem to stick to the kydex any better than the adhesive on the velcro.
The 2 wedges came with some clear plastic wrap stuck to them that you peel off. That's because the wedges have some adhesive on them to help them stick to your shoes and not slide around as you walk.
I haven't had any problems with the "industrial strength" velcro sticking to the wedge but I do have problems with the velcro sticking to the kydex holster. I end up replacing it every few months.
I didn't do anything special. I use the industrial strength velcro from Walmart that says "holds up to 10 pounds." It has held almost a year now. The loop part that goes on the holster hasn't held as well but is still about 70% adhered to the kydex.
You could trim the length pretty easily. Trimming the width seems tricky. And the insert can be ordered with various heights. This is the thickest (highest).
@sonnypruitt6639 or I could use one of the three that I have if I wasn't so lazy. Didn't really plan to make a video that evening. Thanks for watching.
I think lots of people who watch prepping videos also watch gun videos and the algorithms make the assumption that people who watch one will be interested in the other. If you block my channel it might tell UA-cam that you don't want any more such recommendations.
Phil that was a very kind and level headed reaction to this comment. I give you respect. I’m sorry that you were accused of this video being “violent” God bless you and great video. Ordering these products right now thanks to you
Violent? First off, a weapon was not displayed in the video. Second, the poster sounds like Bob Ross. What did he say or do that was aggressive or hostile? The only violent or hostile thing I saw was your comment. You are the only one in this mix who cursed. For shame.

Great tip about using the softer material on the holster in case you forget to use the wedge
Excellent one-handle wedge handling.

Which height did you get? There's Large 0.6", 1" & 1.40". Thanks.
@@gfy305 I got the small size with the 1.4 height…1.0 would probably be fine too. Anything larger than the small size may not fit on your holster.
I got the 1.4"
I'm pretty sure it's not that big though. Even so, it doesn't compress like the foam wedges that I've had.
@ThatBlevinsGuy Did you get the Large or Small size? I'm looking at doing the 1.4" as well, but there's two options.
I got the small 1.4"
Just did this thanks to your video. Beyond perfect. Thank you!

Awesome. Ordered these and cant be more happier. I was using the Dr Sholls method and this is 10 times better.

YOU ARE A GOD AMONG US MORTALS!
Great tip!! The wedge packs are only like $20 shipping included. But this seems much more comfortable. Im gonna try this thanks for the idea!!
Or you could order a teardrop pad from DarkStar gear that come with the Velcro for about $16. Thanks for the DYI Tip.

The paint has slowly come off. I didn't make an effort at removing the stickum because I thought it would help the paint adhere.
I might try to wrap the wedge and holster together with hockey tape. That will solve both problems of covering the wedge and keeping it in place.
@@svbarryduckworth628 how did that work out or what did you try?
Nice work Phil! I dig it
You just Blevins’s the holster manufacturers! 😆
I like it I just need to find some kind of material for front so it can slide in better .
Well done!!! You’re an inspiration to us all! 👍🏻

Could you cut the wedge length-wise with a razor knife and apply the pieces on opposite sides of the channel to relieve that pressure point?
Pretty severe tilt back with that wedge. Can it be trimmed?
I don't think trimming it would work. You can buy wedges that aren't as tall if you wanted less tilt.

I have another question. The piece that you spray painted looks totally different than piece that is shown. Is this some kind of cover?

Just got some in the mail. Did the paint help make the gray side less grabby?
Not really.

I ordered the exact ones and there pretty sticky on the sides and the velcro barly sticks it holds but not well

Thanks. Yes, small width. 1.4 inch height.

How did you get that honeycomb pattern on the bottom of the wedge?
It's sold that way.
Pretty comfortable
