      @@gfy305 I got the small size with the 1.4 height…1.0 would probably be fine too. Anything larger than the small size may not fit on your holster.

      I'm pretty sure it's not that big though. Even so, it doesn't compress like the foam wedges that I've had.

    Have been thinking about looking into these and the different options. Sometimes it seems like some places are just charging too much for something so simple and cheap to make. They could be better quality though.... but for the most part, if something is made for guns there's always a mark up in the price and sometimes it's several times more than it should cost. You'd think that something made to go under people's feet as they stand and walk all day, then it should be durable enough to last a lifetime as a holster wedge. Have heard the gel one's work good too. I think they're more expensive though, but really have no idea.

    THanks for this video! I got an appendix carry holster for my cz p01 with a light and it hurts hike hell. Its either digging into the inside of my thigh as I walk or it feels like its going to crush certain areas if i move it more central. Ive been looking for a way to DIY a foam wedge because i dont feel like paying $30 for one.

      I've tried those closed cell foam pads. They work well but over several months compress so that they have to be replaced. That's what got me thinking about silica gel. It holds its shape basically forever.

  • @svbarryduckworth628
    @svbarryduckworth628 Рік тому +3

    These work OK. They help with avoiding printing and with comfort too. The wedge can be moved more to the front to help rotate the grip into the body and work with a wing to further pull it in.
    Getting the Velcro to stay stuck on the fabric inside of this heel wedge is a bit difficult. You forgot to mention that the underside and outside of the wedge is lined with stickum designed to help keep these in place inside a shoe. It can be removed with alcohol or other goo-dissolving cleaners. I used a Clorox-wipe wet-nap and some soap & water to get it all off so it doesnt end up rubbing off all inside my pants I see why you painted it but did the paint hold up over time or chip/peel off?
    So far the first day it feels great. I'll hold back judgement until it has proven to be a long term solution.

    • @ThatBlevinsGuy
      @ThatBlevinsGuy  Рік тому +1

      The paint has slowly come off. I didn't make an effort at removing the stickum because I thought it would help the paint adhere.

    • @svbarryduckworth628
      @svbarryduckworth628 Рік тому +1

      I might try to wrap the wedge and holster together with hockey tape. That will solve both problems of covering the wedge and keeping it in place.

    Currently looking for wedge/wedges because my holster isn't flat. There's a channel sticking up throughthe middle for the olight minis handle, also it's the retention point. I love this idea I just don't think it will work for me. I think I need a thin one on my left side of the and a little wider one on the right.

    • @billb8262
      @billb8262 Рік тому

      Could you cut the wedge length-wise with a razor knife and apply the pieces on opposite sides of the channel to relieve that pressure point?

    • @ThatBlevinsGuy

      I don't think trimming it would work. You can buy wedges that aren't as tall if you wanted less tilt.

    Nicely done video. Informative and to the point. User review would be nice, do you still recommend this material or is it not comfortable and should buy different material?

    • @ThatBlevinsGuy
      @ThatBlevinsGuy  Рік тому +1

      Thanks. I still like it and recommend it. The only issue is that the velcro on the holster tends to peel at the bottom edge so I've replaced it twice in a year. That would be an issue no matter what wedge I used and glue doesn't seem to stick to the kydex any better than the adhesive on the velcro.

  • @Ray-ln7gx

    I have another question. The piece that you spray painted looks totally different than piece that is shown. Is this some kind of cover?

    • @ThatBlevinsGuy
      @ThatBlevinsGuy  2 роки тому +1

      The 2 wedges came with some clear plastic wrap stuck to them that you peel off. That's because the wedges have some adhesive on them to help them stick to your shoes and not slide around as you walk.

      I didn't do anything special. I use the industrial strength velcro from Walmart that says "holds up to 10 pounds." It has held almost a year now. The loop part that goes on the holster hasn't held as well but is still about 70% adhered to the kydex.
