  • Join me as I dive into the world of kiteboarding harnesses! After my seat harness needed repairs, I took a spin with a rented 2016 Mystic Warrior waist harness. In this video, I’ll be comparing the pros and cons of seat and waist harnesses, focusing on their performance with high-powered loop tricks.
I’ll be testing out both harnesses with my signature moves: the boogie loop, backroll kiteloop, late backroll, and double backroll kiteloop. Spoiler alert: I managed to pull off these tricks with both harnesses!
I also demonstrate that boardoffs from the fin and handle are possible with a seat harness.
Here’s a quick rundown of my findings:
Mobility: Waist harnesses offer better mobility, making inverted frontrolls and backrolls feel more natural.
Comfort: Seat harnesses win in terms of comfort, putting less strain on the back.
Durability: For heavy riders like me who love powered loops, waist harnesses tend to last longer.
Style: Some people aren’t fans of the seat harness’s ‘diaper’ look, but I think it’s cool!
Safety: I find seat harnesses safer, especially during crashes and hard bails.
Remember, if you opt for a waist harness, choose one that fits well with your body type, sits low, and is tight. Don’t skimp on a good impact vest that covers your ribs. Safety first!
Stay tuned for more educational kiteboarding content. See you in the next one!

been doing it for a year, and recently had my first ride in a seat harness (mystic aviator). maybe my waist harness (pro limit something) isn't the right fit, but the seat harness is so much more comfy especially with big gusts of wind. instead of fighting the kite i can now just lean back against the wind. the diaper style is huge bonus.

Totally agree... Way better for the back, and you feel you can hold more in strong wind from my experience... I just wish they lasted longer when going out in strong winds and looping :P I guess most of them are not built for that, but there are things u can do to help - just keep monitoring the straps after strong sessions - and put some electrical tape or ductape whenever you feel they are thinning, or possibly try to use spreader bar with rounded edges if you have one lying around so it doesnt cut into the straps?

I find that because the seat harness is closer to your center of mass when you do loops and get yanked downwind gravity wont automatically swing you upright. On the other hand with the waist you have more weight below than above so you naturally return to an upright position.

Yeah there is something to be said about that rotation axis/center of gravity being slightly lower, but at my level its something to deal with.

I still like the Dakine Chameleon. It’s a soft waist harness with removable seat. It doesn’t pinch like seat harnesses and never rides up even though I leave the seat pretty loose. I have a hard shell waist too but it rides up and rubs my ribs

Same for me.. had a serious impact 5 years ago.. started to use a seating harness.. much more comfortable, doesnt hurt the ribs, but.. for loops that i just start now with 55 years... i think a waist harness is maybe better and also for moving your legs for bordoffs for example..
But.. after 5 years.. every time i try a waist harness i hate it ... its horible.. you cant breath in it... well

Yeah... I mean you gotta weight pros and cons. To me is not worth hurting my ribs to look cool :p. Maybe one day if i stop crashing ill switch back. Or if they release that old mystic again haha.
