Big Air Kite Showdown: We Tested 2024's Best Kites – Here's What Happened!
Hey everyone! In this video, we got a rare chance to demo some of the hottest kites of 2024, including the latest Airush Lift with cutting-edge Aluula Aeris material and the revamped Lithium with just one pulley and stopper. As Airush riders, we took these kites for a spin, but we didn’t stop there! We also tested a lineup of other top-tier kites to see how they stack up against the competition.
Starting at Bozo Beach, Loren and I pumped up our new Airush gear - Loren with his Lift and me with the 10m Lithium. We had an epic session, upwinding to the spit island for some tricks. Although we got caught up in the fun, I managed to pull off some boogie loops and contras, while Loren nailed moonslides and loops with grabs.
The real action, though, was back at the sandbar demo day, where thanks to Squamish Watersports, we traded kites with our friends and got to try the Core Pace 2024, Core XR Pro 2024, Evo Dlab 2024, and a 2023 Orbit. Each kite had its own standout qualities: the XR is unbeatable for huge boosts and board-offs, the Orbit excels at upwind vertical jumps and loop tricks with little pull, and so much more.
The takeaway? Every kite has its strengths, and it’s all about finding the one that suits your style. Whether you're looking for big air, smooth loops, or steady handling, this video will give you the inside scoop. Plus, I’ll share my hard-earned tips on cracking the backroll kiteloop - a trick that had me stumped for ages but I finally figured out!
If you’re into kiteboarding or just curious about the best gear of 2024, tune in, and don’t forget to demo as much gear as possible - it’s the best way to find your perfect kite. Enjoy the ride!

Manzanita Magic: My Favorite Kiteboarding Spot on the Oregon Coast

We started our trip camping and kiting in the legendary Hood River Gorge, but a brutal heatwave was on the way, and the wind forecast looked bleak. As temperatures soar past 40°C, the thermal winds in the Gorge usually die down-worst-case scenario for any kiter, stuck in the heat with no wind or water to cool off. Seeing the forecast, we knew we had to make a move. All signs pointed to the coas...

Where is the jump from the thumbnail? Is it photoshoped?
11:08 nice one with the train on the bridge in the background. Where is the spot if u care to share?
Very useful tips, nicely summarised. Thank you
you have missed the best kite, the slingshot code nxt
Yeah would love to try that one - heard great things... There was a demo in hood but we missed it.
@@Kitehomiez if you get the chance, would be great to hear how does it stand up from your own point of view:)
Funny, it’s been ages since I saw an Airush kite, there numbers are like zero in the EU..
Yeah man. Is a smaller brand - South African. I guess some more in Canada and US. Jason VDS makes it shine with his superloops.
You tested nothing. Look at the podium of Cold Hawaii 2024)))
Well yeah we tested what was there... :p sorry those were the only ones we could test in the spot
Have you guys tested the Flysurfer ERA?
Sadly not but would love to test whatever is available to be tested
So much fun to kite with all of you! And such a beautiful wonderland to kite at! Had to take a break from the rotation just to explore upwind.
Love it!!
Was such a sick day until I ate shit
Haha for sure. But hats off for sending it!
Rad AF Bru ❤
Great tips ! Keep going with your great work!
Sweet! Glad you like it. Will do
Sick trip 🎉
siiiiiiiick
The hardest part of taking off before the kite hits 12 (for me) is retraining my brain and body to feel for different amounts of line tension as the kite climbs, and also using that as the trigger for initiating the carve and pop. Being self-taught has created some bad habits!
Its definitely not easy, lot of things happening all at once... Still important to take off upwind and carve that board hard. We are all working on it - knowing the direction helps :D
we want more carnage
Then come more often :D
Big sends good times!!
Very cool 😎
Wow awesome session
Thx for the jumping tip… I’ll try it!
pierwszy
W sensie ze? :p
Have you been to Jetty Island in Everett?
Yep. Freestyle capital of north america :)
Great vid, tricks and crashes 👍🤙
hahaha this spot is insane. Very cool. I'dont like kiteloops in toilet position, i perefer 'superman position'! overall its looks more radical!
Yeah for sure... if you can get caught in superman go for it. Just talking about learning and survival :p
Dude this spot looks juicy!!
I love it
Amazing video, as always! ❤
I prefer Fort Stevens myself, the waves at manzo are always so confused! Fun place to camp though.
Never been at Fort Stevens but my buddies loved it last time
A perfect summer spot. Agreed closer to town the wind seems funky , closer to the park has been best in my experience.
Yep the more south u go the better the waves and wind get
Was this filmed in July? I think I saw you guys and Phillip there. It’s my home kitesurf spot but when the waves are small it’s really a great twintip spot. Amazing wind this year, equal to the Gorge and hardly a foggy day like we once typically had when Portland is hot.
Yeah. July - over 3 days - Phillip was there too at some point and a bunch of Seattle crew, sadly couldnt get their footage. But yeah it was a good month - water wasnt super cold either :P.
@@Kitehomiez fun to watch. I’ve been working up to looping. I can downloop and heliloop but we’ll see if i actually loop this year. Kiting for ten years but mostly surf and foil till this year. My Manzanita house is rented most of the summer but mostly weekends the rest of the year. I have 10 acres above Mosier I’m working on with a gutted house but working utilities if you ever need a camping spot in the Gorge. Lots of parking for RVs too
Nice clean waves 😍
Yeeees nice one!
Looks epic. Gotta go
This spot is awesome!
Very much like Dillon Beach.
@@thebreak247 We gotta go down to sherman next year - hopefully we can check this one out as well
Looks terrific. I guess I'll have to buy a wetsuit.
Do it! haha. It can get cold
it will be very painful, guys! :DDDDD
Hahaha doesnt have to lol :p. Go underpowered on small kite first and make sure u got all the prereqs
7:26 this is the weirdest jump I have ever seen. Lets call it the "super dangle dongle"
Haha is very aggresive
Very sad that someone died within the first month of operation
Yep... horrible :(
Wow..high level bunch of kiters there...I'd be a bit intimidated to join..Lovely wind!
People are very welcoming here. As long as their not being cut off lol. :p
Nice spot, too bad is a12 hr flight away.
Haha not the worst... Brazil is 30hrs for us :/
what a spot :) looking good over there!!!
I hope they reopen the spot to kiters. I can see the hazards and I can’t say it’s a beginner friendly launch, but it’s super convenient otherwise.
They might but not sure if its gonna happen this month :/
@@Kitehomiez Dang. Been looking for updates, but haven't seen much yet.
Looking good on those loops Jan!
Man Jan has some serious nice aerial trics, especially those inverted ones look sick. Needs to work on his take off/pop though, looks stiff and rusty in some jumps
Coordination is a beautiful thing... One day :p
@@Kitehomiez 🤣🤣
can you share a Google Maps pin of this exactly place? Tks!
Hi Jan. Thanks for the video. Is it open now to kiters?
Thats the thing... Apparently is temporary closed now due to some accident :/. I believe it will reopen soon. But for now shuttle to the island is still an option. And i think winging and windsurfing still allowed.
Show me some choppy water take offs!
Haha yeah those are painful... Peeps say keep ur kite 45 or higher in chop and whip it harder. Also aim for a small wave... but some chop is inpossible. Ocean waves are nice
Complex trick but very well explained. Congrats ! 👍🤙
well fellas ... need a new kite homie ? thinking about the jump to the mainland from the island... who is with me ?
Do it bro! But prolly less wind in spring and fall here :(
Great tip with the deadman 🤙
Very nice!!!
