A couple questions… 1) Is the wireless setup part of the system? 2) Do you need a wireless unit plugged into each light fixture or is that built in? Thanks!
Hey thanks for watching. No, the unit is not super clunky. My work space is very quiet and the Lapel mic was on my collar. The wireless transmitter was separate. You can always send to a unit with a wireless receiver then hardwire from that unit to nearby lights. The Vangoa pack I reviewed does a nice job at low cost. Let me know if you any other questions.

a gagillion thanks! I got this in the mail today. I'm very happy about the crash course that you offered here. In another video of yours, you mentioned computer software?? If only had I known..LOL! oh well, this will be fun to learn.
So this only allows you to control 16 channels of a light? Dont most moving heads have alot more channels? I guess most allow you to control it more basically but what if you want to or need to control more than 16? Do you need a different controller?
Tha ks for watching. Depending in your needs. Most moving heads will have couple different options of channels depending how much control you need. However, you could always use buttons for fixtures 1 and 2 if u needed more, but that could get confusing. I would suggest larger board or software based if this is the case.. a wmx-1, soundswitch, chauvet showexpress or similar.
I have a chauvet dj obey 40 dmx controller and it was great I created 3 scene on my chauvet dj mini kinta irc, kinta hp and 2 intimidator scan 110s under minutes and I set a timer for the lights to turn on and off
This was super helpful and I discovered so much more about my lights. Although I do have a question, I have 3 head lights in a daisy chain but whenever I select different scanners it doesn’t control them individually. If I click channel 1 then they work in sync, but if I click any of the others nothing happens. I guess what I’m trying to say is I need to control them individually. Any ideas?
Thanks for the comment. Do you have them addressed correctly? Sounds like you have them all set to dmx ch 001. How many Channels does your controller have? Set the 2nd mover to whatever is one more than your controller number of channels. If your controller has 16 channels, set 2nd light to d017 and the 3rd one to d033. That should allow u to use fixture buttons 1,2 and 3. Let me know if u get it. If not we can set up so.e time to talk it through. 👍
Hi Kris! Thanks for this great and helpful video. Can you direct me on how / if it's possible to program FADE UPs and FADE OUTs? Thank you, in advance!
Thanks for watching. U have options. You can dmx them to the same channel and control them all from one (scanner 1 ) button.. which would start at dmx 001. You can control them separately by dmx.addressing them 001, 017, 033 and 49 and use scanners 1-4. Does that make sense?
Hey bud this might be a dumb question. Can I master/slave different light fixtures like pars with moveing heads to the controller? And one more question can they be different lighting company brands? If so how ? Or do you have a video on this question? Ty in advance
Hey, no you cant really master slave different types of fixtures. You can control multiple types of fixtures with controller - just need to know the channel profile usually provided in each fixture manual.
so am I able to have "chase 1" repeating and when bass drops I can click "chase 2" for the next sequence or does the auto/music sync feature only run through all of the chase modes at once?
I have the CO-Z DMX board and appreciate your video. After playing around a bit more this is what I'm experiencing: When I disconnect the PARs from the DMX512 controller, the "d" in front of the three-digit DMX address is solidly lit. When I plug in the DMX cable, it starts blinking rapidly. There is no switch on the controller which would reverse polarity. I am using DMX cables. I have powered lights and controller off and on in various sequences. (The number in the controller LED is 120.) The blinking happens even if I just have one PAR light connected to the controller, but also if I have all the lights in the daisy chain connected (and when daisy-chained, the group is properly terminated). I've tried resetting scenes and chases holding down arrow and program (or down arrow and add) buttons simultaneously. I don't know if there is some other way to factory reset the board. But bottom line, the PARs will not respond to the lighting control board -- though at one time they did. I'm stumped and hoping the controller hasn't gone bad (out of warranty).
Question, Hey quick question. We have mydmx on an old laptop at church that we just have 3 scenes on. Only have a 4 cob cannons or something up there. I want to just use a regular controller instead of the laptop, BUT, the lights are up too high to address without bringing in scaffolding and they are addressed in my dmx at 10, 20, 30, etc. So the question is, is there a cheap controller out there I can use with the lights addressed like that?? I know normally it has to be like 1,17, etc.
How many channels are u using for each one? If you do a little math, you could use any cheap controller. Might be a bit confusing... but all u have to do is use the coresponding channels on the controller and fixture/scanner. For instance on a controller like this you would select scanner 1 and use channel 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 ,15 - The one starting on 20 - you would user scanner 2 - faders 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 then last one addressed 30 you would use scanner 2 for the first couple channels 14, 15, 16 would be 30,31,32 then you would have to go to scanner 3 and use fader 1,2 and 3 (if they are 6ch) Does this make sense?
@@KrisSzanto Thank you for the reply! Would it be channel 9? Not sure if I see that. Here are the channels: www.uking-online.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/ZQ-B257.pdf

Hi there. Im watching this and trying to figure out how to set up 2 moving head lights. They don't seem to be responding to the sliders. Are there certain settings on the lights that must be set? 0001 for the first on and 0017 for the second as the address thus far. But I cannot get anything out of them.......
Start with your first light on dmx 001, make sure and check how many channels the mover is using in its menu. Usually at least 2 options. Then make sure the mover is in its dmx mode. Select (scanner 1 button on controller) then move the pan and tilt faders to see if you have movement. Then if they are moving make sure the dimmer ch is all the way up and the strobe fader may also have to be all the way up. All heads are different. Statt there, let me know if you get anything.
Great video. The Board works ok, but I am having an issue, maybe you have some input on. I have a few led bars that are 12 channel lights. When they are hooked up to the board, they don’t work at all. When I set the lights to 6 channel mode, they work great. With the board supporting 16 channel, I should have full 12 channel control right?
They should work fine either way. When u go to 12 ch on that type of fixture make sure the dimmer channel is up all the way and double check the strobe channel and make sure it is "open" sometimes when the stribe is at 0 it actually blacks keeps the light off and 255 is open and not strobing. Lastly, sometimes having to switch from page a to b and back again gets confusing. And you have to make aure they are addressed correctly. Should only be every 16 channels. Fixture 1 at 001 then next fixture (2) at 017 etc...
@@KrisSzanto thanks, they are addressed correctly because in 6 channel mode I have full expected control. The issue is when I put the lights into 12 channel, they just don’t do anything. No dmx blink, so it’s communicating with the board. I’ll try the dimmer and strobe settings and see if that helps. Thanks!
Thanks for the product reviews! I've found them both entertaining and educational. I have a questions about the programming. Once the board is unplugged, how long with the programmed items stay in memory; or do they have to be reprogrammed every time the unit is plugged back in?
Thanks for watching, I am sorry I am not sure how long it will last. I have not used this type of controller on a regular basis for a long time. it seams that it will keep for a bit. I just plugged it in to see if it held from about a month ago and it definitely remembered something but unfortunately I can not remember exactly what i had programmed for a demo. Question my friend. I have this controller and when I put it in music sync mode with my rockville rockwedge lights half of the time it works perfectly and then sometimes when I press the music button it just says the lights into reading through the scenes super fast over and over and it almost seems like they're flickering but they are really just running through scenes hyperspeed. And this is in the music mode only when the automotive completely off otherwise. Sometimes if I turn the controller off and back on then it works again properly and sometimes even when I leave it on and turn the music mode on and off a few times it will eventually work right. Any thoughts? Rockville customer service said they think it could be the board but the board works perfectly in every other way all the time. Help please my friend and great video!
Thanks for watching. Im sorry that i dont really use this type of board enough to know what the problem is. I often find that using these especially when channels can overlap that sometimes we initiate auto programs just by switching banks (going between 1-8 and 8-16) and the and the channel is slightly moved that is effected from the other bank. If that makes sense. Also could have to do with the mic sensitivity which could have issue due to proximity.
@DJ Kris Szanto thank you for your thoughts! I asked this question to a few UA-cam people anywhere the only one who actually took the time to write back, Respect!
@@KrisSzanto Does anyone know who to contact for support? I have the same problem. Testing in my theater room with low or extreme volume no difference. ** you mentioned sensitivity like there was a button marked that but I do not see one. Thanks.
you did not explain how to set up every light before use the controller.. they usually have 512 channels.. which one you have to put in every one, and how is show that in the controller.
For this video I used the small Donner transmitter and one of their rechargeable receivers. Typically I use a slightly larger transmitter that u can pick up for like 20 bucks which is a knock off of much more expensive ones (check on Amazon for either Donner or Lixada 2.4 g wireless transmitter)
Thanks for watching. Does your fixture have a strobe channel? This is usually the case. Typically you would simply adjust that channel to the strobe rate you desire.
Thanks for watching the video. There are many depending on what you are looking for. I generally use software based control where the channels are only limited by the universe. I am currently using a program called Eclipse by Blizzard Lighting but am considering Chauvet Show Express and others in the future.
Hey man thank you for the video! I have several flood lights hooked up to the DMX PRO 4ch Dimmer Pack connected to the the DMX-512 I want one light to blink on and off like lightening is flashing periodically in this scene I am filming. But I want the other lights to stay on. The Dimmer pack only starts flashing when I selected it to a program But that means all the lights will start flashing. I can’t get them to act independently. What should I do?
I do not use dimmer packs, but I would imagine that you do not have any dmx cable plugged into any of the lights themselves. If this is the case you will want to use the dmx out of the dimmer pack into one of the lights and address it to the next set of channels. For instance..if your controller has 16 channels your next fixture would be 17. Then on your controller u could use fixture/scanner button 2 in order to control it independently. Of course if getting power from dimmer pack tou would have to make sure that it is on for that channel as well. Hope this helps
@@KrisSzanto I am coming out of the DMX-512 (XLR) Into the DIMMER pack DMX In. I can control the scanners, faders, scenes and ever program them, as well as hit the black out button. @@KrisSzanto I have. Best way to explain this, the DMX-512 won’t allow me to use its programs to flash lights etc. only the Dimmer pack will, when selecting program. I can operate the lights on different channels and control the brightness with the faders. @@KrisSzanto Does anyone know who to contact for support? I have the same problem. Testing in my theater room with low or extreme volume no difference. ** you mentioned sensitivity like there was a button marked that but I do not see one. Thanks.
Which number from the back of the light to the controler light
You would start on 001 for the first fixture. Second fixture would start on 17. (Every 16 ch for this controller) get it?
Can you hook up the Chinese lights to it
Thanks for watching. Yes, any lights that are dmx controllable can be used if no more than 16 Channels.
@@KrisSzanto Thank you bro
Does he has a mic/Soundsensitivity? Can i just turn a Mode on which controlls the lights just out of the music?
You would have to pre program the scenes first. Then turn on the sound active. Not sure if this answers your question.
@@KrisSzantocan i just adjust the sensitvity?
you did not explain how to set up every light before use the controller.. they usually have 512 channels.. which one you have to put in every one, and how is show that in the controller.
@GustavoChavez-y2m Sorry.. it's a 16ch board. First light should be 001, then 2nd will be 017 etc... which will correlate to scanner 1 then 2 etc...
Thanks
What brand of transmitter and dongles are you using?
For this video I used the small Donner transmitter and one of their rechargeable receivers. Typically I use a slightly larger transmitter that u can pick up for like 20 bucks which is a knock off of much more expensive ones (check on Amazon for either Donner or Lixada 2.4 g wireless transmitter)
Thank you so much
How do you add strobe?
Thanks for watching. Does your fixture have a strobe channel? This is usually the case. Typically you would simply adjust that channel to the strobe rate you desire.
Yes they do. But when adjusting the colors two of the channels don’t do anything. I remember it having a strobe effect option
@@guy539 what lights are you using?
Hi does the wireless dongle comes with the dmx controller when you buying it
No, it does not.
@@KrisSzanto thank you
So this can't control a fixture with more than 16 channels? Do you know of a dmx controller that does?
Thanks for watching the video. There are many depending on what you are looking for. I generally use software based control where the channels are only limited by the universe. I am currently using a program called Eclipse by Blizzard Lighting but am considering Chauvet Show Express and others in the future.
@@KrisSzanto Thanks! I'll check that out
@@elliotth3201 Let us know what you go with if you pick something up. 👍
Very cool
Hey man thank you for the video!
I have several flood lights hooked up to the DMX PRO 4ch Dimmer Pack connected to the the DMX-512
I want one light to blink on and off like lightening is flashing periodically in this scene I am filming.
But I want the other lights to stay on.
The Dimmer pack only starts flashing when I selected it to a program
But that means all the lights will start flashing.
It all works just fine. But when I want to get a specific light to flutter and others not to, that’s the tricky part. The dimmer pack seems to be the only one to get the lights to go crazy
@@GregoryPLoomis you have to address one of the lights to a different channel.
@@KrisSzanto I have. Best way to explain this, the DMX-512 won’t allow me to use its programs to flash lights etc. only the Dimmer pack will, when selecting program.
I can operate the lights on different channels and control the brightness with the faders.
It’s just getting the dimmer pack to say “hey let’s get this light to flash and leave the others alone” when you press “mode” on the dimmer pack all the lights start flashing to whatever program you want. But I can’t get the 512 to have control
@@GregoryPLoomis send me a message on Facebook or Instagram @bydesigndj maybe we can dig into this later today.
The background music whats the name please.
I am sorry, If you tell me at what time I may be able to dig it up and let you know. Its been a number of months. There are a few tracks on this vid.
5:20 upwards, oh and i forgot to mention your video is the reason for me to buy this device, i really appreciate your kindness of sharing this. I would like some guidance with choice of lighting im starting a lighting business here in jamaica.
@@1NERRO I will have to look into it. I may have just used a track from UA-cams royalty free library. As far as lighting choices, it would depend on application. Size of event or what you are trying to light and the purpose of the lighting.
@@KrisSzanto im just starting out, i have 2 yorkville lp led4 and SB-Brazil swing head, getting the dmx controller and will need some more lights like for sweet 16s, small events, club rental.
Just checked on Amazon these are now around $60.
@angelmarley2253 3yrs of inflation.. lol. Idk. Still a good deal. Comparable products are easily over $100
No midi in even that is sais in the manual !?
There is no midi in. I'm not sure what you are asking. There is a button called midi/add which is used in programming, but the unit does not accept midi as you can tell when I show the single output on the back. (Dmx)
@@KrisSzanto Yeah I know.. This model is sold without Midi, but in it's manual that comes with it still sais it have Midi. There is other models that is named exaxtly the same that have Midi in. My friend bought one that have midi in. So thats why it have a button called "midi/add". It seams to be random witch ones that have, cuz the model name is the same. If they cost over around 50-60 euro they seams to have midi.. I will have to open mine to see if it is just a modul addon or how it is made.

Dj Kris Szanto, no disrespect, but you remind your audience of how "inexpensive" this piece is way too many times. I am just interested in knowing how to operate this piece before I buy it. I am just staring out and you are making up my mind on not buying this piece. Thanks DJ Szanjo,
No worries. Thanks for your feedback and more importantly your service. As it was a review and a how to... hope you got something out of it as these types of controllers all operate almost identically. Oh and it is so, "inexpensive". ✌️
@@KrisSzanto Thank you for your reply. Happy new year!
No idea what you are doing, i dont event get a light to turn on at all, both on channel 1 to make it easy, no matter what the F i do, no lights..
? You have your lights set to dmx 001 (d001 or whatever your light manufacturer deems dmx) Have fixture 1 pressed on the controller? Dmx cable from controller to fixture? What type of fixture are you trying to use? Does it have a master dimmer?
all same d0001 address.. huh,,, all daisy chained huh,,,, all set to min 6 or 9 ch,,huh
Not sure what you mean... sorry.
Dude. Wth. Maybe give the new user 1/2 a second to follow what you're doing? Useless to me - and I do some serious high tech stuff for a living.
Sorry it wasnt helpful to you. I have had alot of good feedback on that old video. The good thing about youtube is you can push pause and rewind if needed. (High tech stuff)
Dude what are you talking about. This is the absolute best video I have seen on simple dmx control in under ten minutes.
