It's called a vocal fry.
Niya is super cool. It took me a few listens to get over the shock of the growl and just vibe with it, but Niya got past it right away. I'm a huge fan of Jinjer now, but my wife won't give them the time of day. Different strokes.

The singer guitarist and bassist have been there since 2011, they had a new drummer on each album until Vlad joined in 2016. They were signed to Napalm with the last drummer, Dmitry Kim, during the King of Everything era. He can be seen in SIT STAY ROLL OVER, I SPEAK ASTRONOMY and WORD OF WISDOM videos and a bunch of live stuff. He is more of a studio musician and did not want to go on the road as much as the rest. after being signed they really started touring all over the world.
You can also check out their quarentine video. Eugene (bassist) and Tatiana are staying in Los angeles while the drummer and guitarist made it back to Ukraine. So Tati and Eugene did a Cover of a Nirvana song with Alex from Suicide Silence.
Love the recognition and appreciation of the talent! Singers ALWAYS give Tatiana her props whether they like that style or not!

Tati has such a wide range, but her "demon" voice is a combo of a growl and a fry scream. Not very many people can do that, but EXTREMELY few can do these type of transitions with such purity. Great reaction, I love to see the family getting involved. Respect brother, keep up the good work.
Great reaction guys. I was lucky enough to see Jinjer live about two months ago. Tatiana is a lovely, gentle almost shy person when she talks to the audience but when she performs the storm clouds leave the sky. Cheers from Australia.

If you do, I'd point out the juxtaposition between the whimsical references to fireworks, mermaids, angels, unicorns, and parties contrasted with the brutal reality being described, which I take as reflecting loss of innocence. Note also that Eugene, Roman and Tatiana are refugees from the war in eastern Ukraine who left their homes, families, and friends behind because the battle lines would have made it impossible to continue their musical careers.

As a father with a daughter I love this video. Awesome to see a dad hanging out with his daughter and best of all bring her METAL.
It's a scream, specifically a fry scream. However, growl is also appropriate.
However, we should always point out to people who are not familiar with the screaming techniques that "growl" is not a vocal technique, it's just a term that was popularized to describe the low pitch screams.
Tatiana hates it being called a fry scream or growl. She prefers gutteral. She's said it in a few interviews.
@Oh Deer - It's not the sound that determines whether it's Fry or False Cord, it's the duration: long screams = Fry, short screams = False Cord. How they sound depends more on the person's anatomical characteristics than on the technique used.

Yes...As she perfectly puts it, they were made for each other...They fit so well with each other..to come up with the awesomeness they bring to us as of today....But this band wasn't put together overnight, nor were they an idea of Napalm Records...They were just signed in with Napalm a few years back...They started in Ukraine back in 2010, I believe...But their lineup has changed substantially over all these years...Originally it was just another guitarist that's not playing with them anymore...Eugene, the bass player, and a different singer..And also another drummer...They'd had quite a number of drummers through the years...Very early since they started, the original singer left, and then that's when Tatiana joined in...After that, at some point, there were two guitar players, with Roman being one of them, Eugene on bass, and a drummer that's also gone now...The original guitar player left the band to pursue some other ventures, and Roman remained as the only guitar guy...Then later on, the drummer followed through, leaving the spot for Vlad...When he became their permanent drummer, the band became what it is right now...less players, but more cohesion and solidity in what they do...That's Jinjer, in a nutshell...
Anyone else think is super refreshing to see two people who very clearly aren’t used to the genre just be entranced and appreciate the music even if it’s new to them? Also Tatiana is great she has one of the best growls in metal and voices in any genre. Welcome to metal. It takes some getting used to but once you get used to it you can start to see why the vocal style is used cuz a lot of the lyrics wouldn’t come across well in any other style and that’s why it’s used

Never get old - good reaction man and props to your daughter for taking it so well: some people have truly freaked the F out. The band do indeed sound like they're made for each other, but it's been a hell of a rough road getting to this lineup. Check out the band's history on their Wiki page. NONE of the people who started the band are still in it, and I'm sure I've heard Tati or Eugene say that none of the current members even know _why_ it's called 'Jinjer'.

Contrary to what some have said, I think Who Is Gonna Be the One is good to prove that she is capable of this voice. Plus, the song just keeps punching you in the face!!!!

The "rock scream," as you put it, is called a "mixed drive." It involves blending the glottal and vestibular vocal drives (distortions) to create something that sounds like screaming, but that isn't harmful to vocal chords like screaming is. It's INCREDIBLY difficult to pull off convincingly, or even at all.
You are correct, it's a growl/scream. 4 members with the drummer as the newest member.

Don't know if you get to read this but the thing I like the most about your channel is that you make it a point to expose your kids to things they probably would never have seen otherwise. You are fostering CURIOSITY, probably the most important human feature.
Curiosity is the drive that makes you explore things unknown, things you don't understand, and ultimately expands your knowledge of the world you live in. If everyone would be more curious about why other sane people think differently from what makes you comfortable, instead of automatically assuming they are insane or dumb or to be disregarded, I believe we would all benefit.
Foster your children's curiosity, foster your OWN curiosity, and watch your world become a bigger place.
