Raptor 660 ceased oil pump!

  • Found the problem. Oil pump ceased up. I'm not sure when it happened but it happened. Could have been when I filled it with oil could have been prior to the broken valve. I know there was way too much oil in it when I initially pulled it apart to do the top end. Should be good to go after the new pump.

    I have no flow on mine either I'm going to check the oil pump this has got to be it thanks for making vid!

      Could also be the pick up on the bottom of the case. Could be plugged. Mine was full of sludge and shavings.

    a little late, but i just noticed the tooth broken off of the crank gear that meshes with the balancer gear haha.

    What would make oil blow out of my crankcase vent hose on a 660 raptor

      Sounds like you have compression glasses getting into the case. I have the same issue right now. The sleeve that the piston rides in in cheaper cylinders can drop by millimeters and that's all she wrote. I put a niche cylinder I and it was a bad idea but it was my only option to keep riding at that time but it caused so many problems. Blew apart my coolant reservoir tank. Blew out my seals. Had oil blowing out my case breather. Blew apart radiator hose. Took me a long time to figure out that's what it was I just havn't had time to fix it yet. I'm actually getting ready to tear it completely down and rebuild it split the case and all I might do a video on it

    Your pump looked good though, apart from the nylon gear you should have solder and file it flat

      The internals were smoked. The pump was jammed into the side and it was locked up

      @@thethriftysnowmobiler9801 mine was locked up to and I extract it with a press, just today lol, hope you don’t have metal chips trippin in the engine don’t tryn to rebuild the world here mate juste tryna give an advice for you or the other that ll see this

      I understand thats what its all about. Helping others to be able to get things fixed. Mine was wrecked though. Cheaper just to replace it. Yeah I cleaned alot of shavings from the motor and oil tank. It was a mess

      Thank you! Always happy to help. I havent done any riding this year yet due to my broken collar bone. Still have a few bugs to work out of the ole raptor. Blowing coolant out the overflow tank and squirted some oil out of the case breather. I think I have an idea of the problem just have to do the work. Might have a warped head or bad cylinder. I look forward to hearing if you fixed yours.

    You can also strain the oil with pantyhose works good

      Thats a great idea. There are some who say to only use new oil but if I just put oil in it and ran it for 10 seconds my ass is straining the oil. I am not the Thrifty Snowmobiler because I am rich. Hahahahhahaha

    Hi I have a problem with my 02 raptor 660 I put the 2.5 liters in the resivore and the oil just go directly to the motor. To see more about i put 2 liters more so total 4 liters with the motor not running an the oil go through to de botón so do you know what is the part in the motor have to stop the oil to keep some oil on the resivore. Thanks

      It could be a few things. First you want to see if you have oil flow by starting it and losening the screw on the end of the cam cap. It should seep oil. If oil isnt coming out there you could have.
      1.) Plugged screen in the oil tank. (Prob not that since the oil goes into the motor)
      2.) Plugged pick up screen in the bottom of the motor
      3.) Bad oil pump.

      I also believe there is a check valve at the feed line that goes into the bottom of the motor. I dont believe it typically drains from the tank to the motor without it running

      @@thethriftysnowmobiler9801 thanks but I'm already check i have a good oil pressure everywhere. The problem is when I put oil with the motor NOT RUNNING. The oil jus pas directly to de botón on the motor so the oil tank still empty. I think 🤔 has to be a like valve level in or something to keep the oil level on the motor 🤔 help please

      Looking at the manual in the flow diagrams the only thing I can see that might cause the oil to free flow into the motor while not running is a bad pump. The first place the oil flows to in the motor is the oil pump. There is an internal line that goes to the pump too. I suppose that could be damaged. Best way to find out is to split the case and look really. There are two pumps in the pump housing. one may have failed and the other still functioning. Definitely do not want to over fill the oil and run it. Could cause permanent damage.

      Luckily it has a plastic gear on it so the gear failed too rather than causing catastrophic failure. Luckily I caught it before I started to ride it. I would have been mad if I would have ceased the motor with a freash rebuild. I believe it failed because the motor was dry of oil when I first started it. Oil wasnt getting from the tank to the bottom end until i poured oil in the inspection cover on top of the motor. I'm sure it was already beginning to fail. Just sped up the process. New pump will be here Thursday
