- Welcome back to another video.
This time I had a phone call with backroung story ragarding declined warranty on this S4 B9 . Car wasnt far away from us so I decided to go there and collect whats left from the car. This S4 was taken in for warranty work and once it was taken apart Audi declined the warranty. Unfortunataly they didnt allow me to film but I still manage to create this video about the this story.
Thank for watching

The Oil leak dictator reference gave me a good laugh :) keen to see this build
Main dealers only offer basic services. For anything else your need to go to an independent specialist like VAGTechnic who know what they are doing.
BINGO!!! There's a reason why they are known as STEALERSHIPS!!!
Escpecially Audi Coventry 😜🤓
To be fair, VAG Technic struggled hard with the A8.
@@v____l but they got it done - Audi, a shoddy dealership, would have given you a huge bill and you have to pay it to get the car back....I rate VAG Tachnic - the work theyve done on my car is exemplary...I wanna see what they find and wanna know what the process will be to sort it ( we kinda already know, but everyday is a school day, and learning is fundamental ), so I'm proper staying tuned to this one...how a VW Finance/ Audi can take a car under warranty WITHOUT checking it, this is weird and, to be honest, dumb...you've got the clients money, but do you have their trust in that you'll honour the warranty...ok, the car is tuned, but they should have checked it and the person who sold it should have informed them, but rather this is deception just to offload the car and make a profit...not a good look
@@v____l you are correct, but he did learn a hard lesson, so not totally wasted time, money.
Bought used Audi from Audi dealership. Also bought extended warranty from them. Everytime something had to be fixed was a hassle. Denied all repairs first, nickle and dimed the repairs after. Even the most straight forward warranty repairs took almost a month to get sorted. Part of the reason I switched to another brand of car altogether is the experience. Love your videos is why I am still here.
Same experience my mate had with his A5 + paying top dollar for low quality parts that wasn't covered by the warranty.
‘Not going to name and shame the dealership’, proceeds to show driving into ‘Coventry’ Audi 🫣🤣🤣🤣
He didn't name and shame. But its fair that we should be made aware
That's the worst audi dealership in uk
Good old Listers!
😂😂😂😂😂
What’s the big deal what dealership it is?? Who cares
Thank you for convincing me to never buy an Audi, ever... 😂
LMAO, they are good cars, like every make, they need looking after.
They are overall really good cars. I just tradded in my Lexus with 65K miles that needed a new differential, the seat belt was fcked, and there was a wiering issue causing the car to lose all power while driving; that no body would work on, and the dealer could not solve in 13 hours of labor. Before that I had two Acuras for a very long time; that needed 3 transmissions between them in a combined 280K miles. My previous Audis never had issues like that. But people live in their own worlds these days. Hondas completely scked for the last 9 years, they have not been able to make a Automatic transmission that dose not only sck but die too soon...in 20 years....But yet ask someone if a Honda is more reliable than a Audi. JD power and associates, might say so, the number might say so. But no one you talk to is going to say that, till you run into someone else that had a bunch of issues with their Hondas, like me!
All high performance models from many different manufactures will have similar issues. These guys will leave an Audi like new again while recording every step of the process. Brilliant content. 👌
@@tv321123 You are a very wise man. Most cars these days cant make it to 100km without issues.
This seems to be the trend with all manufacturers. They are constantly designing and experimenting with new technology and praying that the majority will make it past the warranty period.
The governments ever tightening strangulation over emissions and fuel mileage will be the end of the most combustion engine that we grew up with.
If their ever was a time to only buy new and sell before the warranty expires that time would be now.
So, extended warranty is a scam. Thanks for confirming :)
It is nice to see you are swamped with work though. Means people are picking your business up from YT. High quality automotive workshops are scarce anywhere in the world, so good for you, just don't burn yourselves out in the process.
You are legend Tom
I had Coolant temp to high warning on my dashboard went to Audi as my b9 was still under warranty with them.
They did some checking and they told me the car was running fine and they can’t find anything after 2 weeks and so many emails I took my car from them without to be repaired. Guess what on the next day the warning light came back so I went there again and couple hours later they said water pump solenoid and hose has to be replaced.
All was done under warranty.
Stealerships sell warranties, not because it covers the customer, but because it covers said stealerships. The same concept when purchasing health insurance, car insurance, Home warranties, etc. At the end of the day, a business is there to make money.
No way. Change the world make dealership wich is for people. Loosing money but its nice for people
Thank you from a viewer for sharing your experience, time and knowledge. Keep strong 💪
Gave a thumbs up and not even watched yet. But I know it will be good 👍
I'm not a fan of warranties. Full of small print to avoid paying out to a customer. Defo should inspect cars so it is clear what is covered etc. How anyone can trust Audi dealerships is difficult when you hear stories like this. Not saying customers don't pull the wool sometimes either. Like you said Thomas... story is probably somewhere in the middle. Still 1 million pounds will sort it and VagTechnic skills❤
Insurance which is warranty goes by law of averages and therefore individual prior inspection is not required. But to be honest I have seen auto body to sometimes ask for an inspection because the exterior body is easy to inspect. All internal stuff is harder to inspect or gauge. The auto body can be inspected in quick 5-10 minutes.
I can feel some new ramps added to the ramp fleet is on the way!😊
Another great video Thomas
Thank you for the great videos. I just bought an early 2018 S4 and due to this video I did the rocker arm preventive work. Hopefully the car will run problem free for the future. Cheers!
Get Doggo on the case to sniff out the true story, something doesn't add up here. Warranty declined for a map, returned to stock map then try Audi again who start stripping the engine then suddenly stop and say not covered by warranty? Surely they record vin numbers of mapped cars in their system somewhere?
Personal experience - extended warranties are not worth it. Expensive and hard, if not difficult, to get coverage if something happens. There are so many loop holes that warranty companies have to get out of paying.
Since growing up in the 80s,i have always loved Audi's (group b rally). Finally got to own an a3,needs looking after like all cars do. But still sounds good at 209,000 miles. Admire your knowledge on cars, always a great video.
My favorite UA-cam channel 💯🤘❤️
Still interesting even without the dealership footage. But yes, insured extended warranties for most operate judt like youve explained and there are always loopholes. I like that you've gone and collected and checked over cars and ensured parts complete. Thats an assured service!!
AUDI COVENTRY
Clarity on the tuning / Audi Warranty, its one of the best when compared to aftermarket warranties (which pay a very small % and pass costs to customer also wanting to dictate there labour rate )
Audi can scan and check for drivetrain mapping prior to taking it out if that helps, once its been logged on the system it stays there & can pickup if tuning boxes have been fitted on later software. Once logged the factory won't cover any mechanical damage cos it's out of tested spec and have no idea if its poorly mapped. Any PX'd mapped cars should go straight to Auction from dealers
I've never looked at the T&T online but reckon there's a modified car section 😂
I hope that's helped some viewers that have had bad experiences
Here in Canada 🇨🇦 for extended warranty from an Audi dealership car has to be less than five years old and less than 100’000 kilometres. And must go through a very extensive inspection, every thing has to work, all control modules scanned, even a compression test, no oil leaks, any faults have to be repaired before extended warranty can be applied. Audi Canada is pretty good with upholding their warranty.
Good work as always.
Got a question about 3.0 tdi engines on mk2 Q7 , do they suffer from low oil pressure on idle as I watched video from Poland where they remap them to counter this and fo you guys remap cars with that option ? I asked two remaping dealers in my area ( both well known) and they had no idea what I am talking about .....
Bought the online Audi warranty for a V10 RS6 some years ago. Had to claim via Audi dlr for a repair that needed engine /box removal. Once they’d checked service history claim was approved - total work cost £7.5k and my excess was only £150.
BMW/Mini & Merc also offer similar online warranties but they are insurance not manufacturer backed
Warranty - even the cover when the car is new is actually an insurance policy taken out by VAG to protect them from unlimited liability claims. This is standard industry practice. I experienced an engine failure on a two year old RSQ3 (cam follower roller bearing failed), both the diagnostic process and the repair attempts were driven by Audi insurance team instructing the dealer what to do next - tried multiple repair paths with 'least cost' being the only constant. Eventually the dealer replaced the engine having taken the initiative to remove the main bearing caps and being able to prove there was metallic debris in the oil galleries. a fully dressed engine was shipped from Gyor. The aftermarket warranties are basically worthless if you read the small print, consequential damage for isn't covered - so the component that fails is covered - any damage that the fail part causes is the customer's responsibility. Read the small print carefully!
Another brilliant video, only shame you dont have time for more content
cant wait for the 4.0t video, how reliable are these v8s?
I had an Audi S5 B9 2018 with extended warranty (5 years or 100k km) and gearbox failed at 95k km. New one installed without a problem but lucky I didn't tune it otherwise I would be without 15k€ 😰 Trick part is that you don’t get any warranty on replaced parts because you don’t pay anything.
the whole point of these and many other warranties is that you pay for something that might occur and feel safe, however when an issue occurs, they always deny service because they know that the legal implications and the lawyer costs to go against them are much higher then simply repairing the car. so its a win situation for those who sell the warranty only
Long story short, do not buy extended warranty if you are hoping for engine coverage.
Good video. What`s your opinion on A6 C7 2.0 tdi engines? DO they have serious issues and is there point upgrading those engines?
In Canada, Audi cannot extend warranty without a full inspection. I'm shocked at how the UK does things.
I bought my ex lease works A4 Diesel, 2019 plate. 3 years old at the time, I looked at extended warranty with Audi, when it came through the cover was with another company, they only gave an extra 2 years. With my engineers head on all I can think of is the design of the components used are not considering the stress these performance engines are subjected to. When I bought my A4 they were desperate to put me into an S4, even trying to get me to take one for a week to try it. My concern was the tyres profile was too low as I work on sites with poor roads, lucky escape I think 😂.
Got a 2016 scirocco r with an RAC platinum warranty a few months ago. Just been paid out for a master, slave cylinder and clutch. Had to chase them a bit but they paid.
Are all the issues with the b9 platform for S and RS petrol line ? I own a A5 coupe(B9) TDI 2.0-190HP! My car has already 126k km and non issues at all ! Do I need to look after prevention of rocker arm change ? Thanks for answering! 😊
I'm surprised a pre check at dealership was not required before warranty added. In my experience when added vw warranty to a californium ocean just out of manufacturer's warranty, the terms are it must have vw service hx and be checked by vw before warranty added.
🎉🎉notification squad😉😉
Easy guys never ever take extended warranty. On a car, a truck, a lawnmower problem are never covered.
it's almost like things are coming "full circle"....the engines from the 80's/90's all need "forged this and that" to survive any form of tuning/modifying. I remember many a Ford CVH melting when chatting with the RS boys at my local cruise back in the early 00's (I had Fiat Uno Turbo). This example of Audi, is a worrying sign of the future for these type of cars, VAG Technic you won't be short of work!
Looks like you need a garage double the size and few more mechanics like yourself.
Hi. Love your channel. Very informative videos. Regarding Warranties around the world, I am from South Africa 🇿🇦. Drive a Hyundai Grand i10 1.2. Noticed the vehicle was using 1 litre oil per 3500km. Bearing in mind I do services every 15000km/12 Months. Has a warranty of 7 years/200000km. So took the car in. They tell me they need to strip engine to see what problem is etc. They also said once stripped will need a new engine. So they tell me they will submit a warranty claim which should be successful to pay for the work needed to be done. So I book car in. So then on the day my gut told me to make sure about the whole warranty paying for the bill etc. That’s where the guy who helped me said only when they find the “cause” of the fault can they assess whether warranty will pay or not. Car has like less than 60000km. So basically they said that if it was a “manufacturing defect” the warranty will cover the cost. If not it is due to the “driving habits” of the owner. Just shows you the warranty is a scam.
There are two things pressing in on your serviceability. First is your oil changes are way too wide apart. I go engine oil either every 3 months or every 4 months. I could in theory do 4 oil changes where you only do 1. On mileage I do like every 5-6,000 kilometers. Then there is the brand. They are known to have higher rates of internal issues so that helps you in case they want to help and use the manufacturer's likely extended warranty for that vehicle.
@@jamesmedina2062 Yes oil changes are far apart but that is acceptable regarding what is expected of the customer. That’s the whole point, I do what’s required of me yet they won’t cover any damages.
I hate Hyundai. They have taken over all the lies and bullshit that they are the best from Toyota. Same cheap shit and the dealers are arrogant aholes like Toyota dealers
@@oj4249 Got you. Well its been uncovered that the long intervals is a big lie. Think of this also: My older engine is mostly all iron except for the advanced alloy pistons. Your engine is all alloy except for connecting rods and crank. Well more than that but cam journals and block are alloy which is softer. The oil is essential. But like you said it is their gamble to cause your car to fail. If it is inside the warranty period then they have to help you. The harder you play it the sooner they will approve you. Next engine go shorter!
@@jamesmedina2062all modern cars have manufacturers recommending longer service intervals it's not the customers fault. customers are following the service schedule
Always impressed but even more so on the intro Birds Eye view.
I'm curious to see how this turns out.
It's crappy that Audi never brought over, the B9 S4 avant, to the states. Otherwise, I would have purchased an avant instead of the S4 sedan..... Then again, it was so people would be ecstatic, and impatient about awaiting the arrival of the RS6 avant.
Ill be honest if you do that build for 10 grand ill be gobsmacked because mine is 15 so far lol
TD1 will void all warranty for addresse4s 1-40. It should have been TD1 scanned prior to the warranty being issued.
Hi Thomas, what ever happened to the A8 with that EV or battery issue?? Ahh, just saw the recent video on this topic ; thank you.

Hi love watching your videos and information that you disclose. Top man.
My question is do you only do the performance audi cars?. I have a 2017 2.0l tdi s-line 190bhp model and wondering if you be interested in doing a cambelt kit replacement and also give my car a health check inspection and software update if required. The car is completely standard.
Would you be interested in doing this as its not one of the high performance engine car's. My car has covered 90k
Thanks

Love these videos. However, I’ll never buy an Audi S/ RS variant because of these videos.
I would say that if they strip the engine they are automatically accepting the repair under warranty!
Lmao @The English Weather.
@VAG Technic so the question is how many declines you have from extended warranties so far and if the extended warranty is worth it?
Myself none 😀 I don’t have extended warranty
I bought a 21 RS5 last year from Audi CPO and bought an extension, this has me concerned the previous owner may have flipped the TD1 bit.
I'll stick with my S2 ABY Coupe and my D2 S8's. Barely has any issues pretty much bullet prove
Very close to Birmingham 😉
For Audi, then they basically cover themselves if they find the ECU has been mapped, or if the car hasn't been serviced in accordance with their specification in terms of duration or materials. I don't think they should be allowed to sell extended warranties, if they haven't serviced the car from new. That said - you can go online, type in your registration and sent up payment and you're covered. The reality is quite different when you come to claim. The owner in this case - really needs to go back to the original garage or seller, especially if they were led to believe it was stock.
In theory yes - but what are they going to do at this point now ?
Makes me wonder which of the Audi's are the most reliable and robust, and which ones will likely cause headaches and rebuilds/uprade repairs if the B9's seem to be so problematic.
Audi extended warranty does not work like that. Normally an owner moves into an extended warranty after purchasing the car from Audi as a new or used car. The transaction is all done on line. Initially the owner receives an email invitation
ur on it all, thats important
VW dealer would not extend the warranty on my Golf when it got to 7 years old. When they did extend the warranty the dealer had the car in for inspection before offering the warranty. Dealer said VW don't warranty older cars even though this had been serviced within the same group since new and had a continuous VW warranty. Was this warranty an 'after market' warranty which have an interesting reputations.......if you follow my drift!!
Seems like they only checked for tune once they decide big money involved. Why not check it up front if you plan on not covering anything.
Damn that previous owner had too much fun with ut
My friend, you must come to work in Greece, 11 months all day sun 😅😅
One of the ECU’s will tell you when it was updated! Problem solved.
Still Awesome 👌..... I can do your video editing, you're too good of a mechanic to be playing with computers 😅.

Darn...😢😂
Same shit happened to me. Apart from mine wasnt in a warranty claim. My car went in for diagnosis. When i first got it, every time i would floor my s4, it would go into limp mode. Went into audi and they told me they couldn't diagnose it because, apparently, audi say if the car has been mapped, when they plug there diagnosis machine in it wont allow the technician to work on the car because its been mapped. And that's how i found out the car was mapped.
all the parts on a "loveley trolley" hahahahahahahaha
Idk if i want no audi no more after watching this channel for a few weeks. I love them, my dream was a b9 or a rs3. But yeah, i dont think supporting a company that dont delivers reliable cars is a good idea. Any suggestions to q reliable fast car with 4 wheel drive?

Come on Thomas, nothing wrong with a Subaru STI. Like all cars, they require regular maintenance. I just bought a 2012 C63 AMG PPP. It might be a money pit but hey, it will be a classic in years to come. 🤣
On a car over 3 years you don't get an actual Audi warranty ( or any other manufacturer for that matter) just an aftermarket warranty arranged by Audi. As with any aftermarket warranty it's up to the buyer to ensure the car meets the conditions for the warranty - e.g. service history , tune etc.
Have on my Lexus. Its an extended Lexus warranty and not aftermarket.
I wouldn't buy an extended warranty from a dealer unless the car was sold to me by the dealer network. They can't wiggle out as easily as they would have inspected the car. Doubt they'd pickup a tune though
I’m going through a similar battle with bmw, they are claiming it is a pre-existing issue and denied my claim, I am now waiting for them to prove this.
I find it really odd that Audi would sell an extended warranty without first checking the condition of the car thoroughly. As a customer before buying said warranty I would be determining what is covered and what is not covered under what circumstances given that it is a second hand vehicle. It seems to me that the customer has failed to do their due diligence and equally Audi has failed to do their due diligence. The whole situation is a bit of a shemozzle.
Audi don't care, they sell you an insurance policy labelled as extended warranty, take their cut and find any excuse to decline repair in collaboration with the insurance/warranty company.
It wasn’t me❌
🤣 unbelievable this guy ………

I dont drive everywhere in dynamic mode, so hopefully there will be some enjoyment in my driving experience as i seem to be seeing more and more of this content from this channel in particular. Very valuable content but im trying my hardest to ignore it. Its a punt you have to take buying a used, second-hand vehicle. My assumption would be that the problematic cars are the ones that are abused. Please correct me if im wrong.
I'm not sure that's what he was saying. I think he's implying that early cars from 2016 and 2017 have issues because of the use of poor materials. Tuning will always exacerbate any inherent weakness too.
If it's any consolation, I have a (May registered) 2018 saloon with 28k on the clock which came straight from Audi at a year old with 1,000 miles on the clock. It's totally pampered and I normally only drive it in 'efficiency' which unfortunately didn't stop the thermostat and water pump going at 14k, a month after the Audi warranty expired. Happily I had taken the extended warranty which I still have but I do find all this talk of rocker arm failures mildly terrifying!
It would be nice if someone could clarify which months/years are potentially a problem - at least we could then think about some preventative maintenance.
@user-uy8fb6xv6j fair enough. I was reading some info on a couple of forums that the 2018 cars suffer in particular. Who knows, I guess there is some luck involved as to which parts were pulled off the shelf when the cars were manufactured. For me personally, I'm going to keep driving my car. I'm actually taking it for a service and inspection and a specialist similar to this anyway. If I start hearing anything untoward, it will stop being driven and booked in straight away. I certainly wouldn't continue driving It. Way too much at stake, financially.
I had an extended warranty on my 2018 8V RS3. All online, so had an end of manufacturer warranty check over without saying why. Have now cancelled it 2 years on due to cost ramping up. Hoping 5 cylinder is robust with maintenance 🤔
The DAZA/DNWA engines are great. Just be diligent with maintenance and use quality parts and it should live a healthy life.

Yep - I wanted to buy extended warranty for my SQ5 (B8.5) and also was astounded they did not want to health check the vehicle first. I almost begged them to do a health check, which they did offer for free tbf, but said it would have no bearing on the warranty…. Very strange 🤷🏻♂️
That's scary. It implies that in the event of a failure it WOULD be covered.
Is there no way he can go back to the seller. If the vehicle was sold without any declaration of being modified. There has been some recent legal claims over this same thing.
this means you do much better service then the audi dealer 😉
So who pays for the diagnostics when the warranty doesn´t cover?
Based on that steering wheel alone they definitely checked for a previous ECM flash and it got TD1’d. Why they didn’t notify the customer it might not be covered under warranty before they did the tear down seems silly
So guy buys this car and the seller doesn,t say its remapped.Haha yeah right.Thats the only reason he bought it and the seller would tell him for sure.
Coventry Audi here I come 😂
Don't modify your car and expect the Manufacturer to warranty it, How can anyone expect otherwise 🤔
car was modified by previous owner and seller didn't check it
Untuned cars are failing cylinder #6 & some are failing rocker arms, realistically the tune probably has little to do with it

Love the videos though!!!! 👍👍👍
Interesting that Porsche (Now part of VAG) will only allow a warranty to be put on a car if it passes their 112 Point Check & any issues identified are addressed before hand. That is the only genuine way to do it.
What do you mean Porsche now part of VAG like this is new? Its been over 10+ years.
Have you seen issues with the 2,0 tdi 190 ps?
190 yes
What issues?😊
Do not go to Audi Leicester - bad experience
I had nice experience at Audi Poole well recomend
That's Audi Coventry
Come to Ireland we're sunbathing under the full moon...
That sounds very poor ie. Audi quite are happy to take the money but not do any checks on a car they are selling an extended warranty on. To get a Porsche extended warranty, it has to go through a 111 point check and they are part of the same group of course. Might you the 11 point check may not have picked up the tune !? I hope that he got his extended warranty cost back?
I guess, all you're buying into with an extended warranty is an insurance scheme against the car.
They have a lot of assumptions, just like they would if you were buying any other type of insurance (car, home, pet) where they don't inspect the item at the time of policy inception and it's up to you to work out if your thing meets their policy's fine print.
Unfortunate that this person bought a car without knowing whether it's tuned or not, but I would guess the onus is on them to find out if their car meets the policy's assumptions and terms of business.
Shit one really. I took out an Audi Extended Warranty (probably through the same company as this person) on my B8.5 S4 and I got a refund after a week as I was able to get someone to confirm that because my car had missed its gearbox oil change interval that they wouldn't cover the gearbox if it failed. Took me multiple phone calls to get someone to admit that they wouldn't cover it, as every agent kept saying they would.
Forget the warranty....I wonder how these new audi models can't make it pass 50k miles...
