Thank you for another great video! I agree with everything Mr. Twist said in his comment - we are blessed to have such amazing pianist and educator on YT. Happy and healthy holidays!

Just stunning. Having found your 'Cole Anderson' channel and commented on your Gershwin, I am delighted to have now found this channel as well. Your introductory talk was absolutely fascinating and the information you shared on Fanny Mendelssohn was most illuminating to say the least. I wonder if Felix might not have been a little jealous of his exceptionally talented sister? The 'Song Without Words' that you play is quite exquisite - so beautifully crafted and, as you remark, adventurous in its chromatic structure and sophisticated in its harmonies and melodic development. Certainly a composition to equal many of the men who are acclaimed composers from the same era! I can guess that Covid has severely limited many of the activities and performances you would have preferred to be involved with . . . but on a selfish level, I don't suppose these uploads would have made without Covid. So something really good and worthwhile out of something so terrible! Dr Cole, I am in awe. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and breathtaking musicianship with us via UA-cam. And may you enjoy much future success and happiness once the world returns to 'old normal' hopefully following the success of the vaccine in 2021. Wishing you every joy for the coming festivities and hoping you get to spend it with loved ones.

Thank you very much Graham! I replied to your other comment and didn’t realize you had already found my new channel. Of course we can never tell for sure-but it certainly would be normal to feel a little threatened if you had a sibling who was equally talented in your same field! Still he was never mean spirited towards Fanny, and evidently had great respect for her instincts.
The virus has certainly turned everything upside down, but I do feel thankful that I have stumbled onto this new way to share music with a much wider audience. Thank you for your kind comments! And stay tuned for more :-)

I love Fanny's music and so happy to see that people are starting to learn more about her. The only thing I must critique is that the picture you portray of Fanny is actually not her. The painting is that of Cecile Jeanrenaud Mendelsohn, the wife of Felix, Fanny's famous composer and brother. It is a common error because Google actually had the wrong photo, and those not familiar with the Mendelssohn family would not notice the error.

Yes! You are quite right-I only discovered this some time after making the video, so unfortunately I can't change it. I will try to set this right in a future video.

@@TheIndependentPianist You have a wonderful channel and I really enjoy the content and your love for the music. It's Google's error in identifying the wrong picture for Fanny. Thank you for your kind response and have a great holiday!

a Schubertian and autumnal piece. How I envy your 13th spans! I guess Fanny had some rather large hands...I'll definitely give this piece a read later today. As always much obliged for your video.

Good work as always. I’ve never really checked her out. What else by her do you think is a must-listen?

Well I’ve been exploring myself and there is still tons to look through, but so far I really like her String Quartet, and among her piano pieces I found the G minor sonata to be very striking also. There are some other smaller pieces I particularly liked as well, the Notturno in G minor was wonderful. The d minor piano trio I only played through once-it seemed very interesting however. I also thought the Easter Sonata was very lovely. Unfortunately there often times aren’t many recordings to be found of these pieces....

@@TheIndependentPianist oh that’s unfortunate that they’re underplayed. But good on you for bringing attention to them. Thanks for the recommendations!

Listen to , Das Jahr (the year) and my all time favorite, Lied in E-Flat Major, it is outstanding.
