Introduced to the world at the 1968 New York Toy Fair, Mattel’s Hot Wheels were born when Mattel co-founder Eliot Handler issued a challenge to his design team to create a toy car that was, “cooler and performed better than anything on the market.”
They answered with the first-ever trackable toy car.
