My favorite Glock is any Glock in 45 GAP because it tells all those Glock Fanboys that there is a difference between 9mm and 45 auto as 45 GAP is essentially a 45 auto that can fit into a G19 sized frame. Basically the ammo discussion of enhanced 9mm rounds being "comparable" in some way to 45 auto started shortly after the introduction of the Winchester Black Talons in an era that was the early 1990's when bullet technology had significantly increased. Then nearly a decade later Glock made their own round that wouldn't make much sense if there wasn't a difference in performance between the 9mm and 45 auto.... well unless Glock Fanboys are willing to admit Glock can't competently conduct their own research and development in which case I might have to agree with them as Glocks still come with plastic sights after 5 generations and what might just happen to be a renamed barrell.... and I can't wait for nutnfancy to review the Gen 5 so I can say "I told you so" ... yeah. The 45 GAP is definitely my favorite Glock of all time. It's just too bad people like James Yeager make clickbait about 40S&W to avoid talking about 45 GAP entirely. That's just a form of toxic manipulation if you ask me.
Kentucky Ballistics what’s funnier is I don’t like glocks at all.. carry a g19 most days though lol.. wanted something reliable with any ammo with vast aftermarket for holsters etc.. quality accessories are also cheaper then most other options like my PPQ which is my preferred go to. I also don’t like getting other selections dirty and sweaty daily..
I was a little disappointed that it wasn't pointed out that the wound channel of the 454 looked like a bomb had went off vs the 44 mag. Love the videos and love both calibers, own both calibers.
@@357Franknitty The felt recoil of the 44 magnum with a max load, is actually close to a 454. The felt recoil of a 400 grain 454 Double Tap round is the the most powerful felt energy of recoil of any pistol cartridge. The 44 actually comes in second. The 500 S&W falls short in the recoil department even though it is a much bigger cartridge. From my personal experience, the 44 mag max load is painful in the palm of the hand. The 454 is painful in the carpals or the knuckles of the hand. After so many rounds, both calibers give the hands minor bruises in the different areas I mentioned. But I absolutely love both of them equally. If you like pain and power, I highly recommend both of them. Now obviously if you buy general range ammo for both these calibers, these recoils are not that bad, but if you want to feel them at their full potential, buy the max loads and +p+'s. You will not be disappointed with the pain.
I think the reason the 454 out of the 460 didn't have as good of penetration as the 44 is because of the space between the bullet and the end of the cylinder, because the 460 round is longer than the 454, so I think a lot of pressure may be escaping around the bullet before it gets into the barrel causing it to not preform as well as it should have. I could be completely wrong, it could be the extra 2 inches of barrel. Either way it would be cool to see a chronograph test against a 454 shot out of a 460 vs shot out of a dedicated 454 with the same barrel length.
Nah, it is differences in sectional density. The .454/.460 has a .452in bullet and at 300gr it has a an SD of .210, which is pretty low. The .44mag, with a diameter of .429 has an SD of .233 at 300gr, an acceptable SD for most game. Doesn't seem like a lot but when the minimum SD for a projectile for medium game like deer is usually considered .22x for sufficient penetration, that .023 difference can greatly effect penetration when using different calibers of the same mass. When testing penetration between cartridges that are fairly close in energy/velocity running the same projectile construction (.44 might pale to a .454 in the handgun world, but both are weak compared to rifle calibers so they really aren't too far apart) the best procedure is to match SD values for the projectiles in each caliber. In this case a 325gr would probably equal the .44mag. It would have an SD of .227, so the extra velocity of the .454 would put them neck and neck. A 335gr (.234 SD) or 350gr (.245 SD) would really start to pull away and show greater penetration than the .44. When comparing any caliber against another in terms of terminal ballistics, sectional density is by far the most important metric. Mass, muzzle energy, and velocity should compared after determining projectiles of similar SD. Things like BC, which is greatly overhyped to sell rifles/specific calibers, is almost entirely useless before getting out past 200-300yd, and even then BC has no bearing on terminal performance; a higher BC just helps retain velocity and energy, that's the only way it's relevant to the long-range hunter. I know you didn't mention BC, but I get so sick of hearing about it that I had to mention it, lol.
The high pressure 454 Casull in the long barrel slows down faster due to expansion. The shorte barrel has less velocity so the bullet expands less and penetrates deeper.
No…. He used a 460 to shoot the 454. The cylinder cone is not opposed properly to the end of the case allowing a small amount of gas to escape from the rear of the cylinder. With lower pressure rounds like a 38 spec fired from a 357, this is less of a problem. IMO the testing of the 454 with the 460 is invalid. Get a proper 454 with a longer barrel and I’ll believe it.
.44 mag will always be my fav.Been using them for 40yrs.,& never been disappointed.Id take an Elk in a heartbeat w/my 8-3/8” Classic Hunter w/the correct bullet.I was loading the first 300 gr.Sierra’s ,& it was FEROCIOUS!!!You’ll find out real quick if your revolver is R/H,or L/H twist-No joke........because it will torque your wrist one way or the other-No Doubt!!!
These are hunting pistols. Do you need expansion and penetration, not much difference between the two at all. Not worth going out and buying which ever one you don't already have.
These.aint " shooting an intruder" rounds... These are pistol rounds designed for hunting large game.. touch one of these off in your house at 2am and you'll never hear or see again
Perfect video showing the real difference in power potential between short vs. long barreled, same caliber revolvers. Not much overall difference, giving a big advantage towards the snub-nose for carrying convenience. Please keep up these informative videos, ESPECIALLY Big Bore Revolvers!
My favorite Glock is the Model 21. When I started out in law enforcement it was during the time when most LEO's carried a 9mm or a .45acp 1911. The .40 S&W was only out a short time and most folks just didn't know about it or want to carry it. This was a few years following the infamous FBI Miami shootout and all the testing that followed showing the 9mm was basically ineffective. I would guess 90-95% of LEO's carrying 9mm at that point ditched them for either a .40S&W or the .45acp. This coincided with the release of the Glock which seemed to immediately find favor with police officers around the country. I loved my S&W Model 59 "Wonder Nine" but surviving a gunfight was far more important to me. Our state troopers had transitioned to the Glock 22 .40 S&W which is where I saw my first Glock. I was visiting with a friend who was a state trooper and he told me all about the Glocks. I waited a little while but quickly decided to retire the S&W 59 and get a Glock 21. Not the prettiest or most ergonomic but they are insanely reliable, very accurate and generally perform perfectly. I still own one today and wouldn't go without one. Today's 9mm is a much better cartridge than it was back then but I still prefer my Glocks in .45 acp.. Maybe one of these days I'll get a G20 upper for it and try my hand at 10mm. I think it's the only mainstream handgun caliber I don't have. As far as the video goes I found it pretty interesting. I've had people tell me my S&W 629 V-Comp's 4" barrel really neuters the .44 magnum's performance but your video (among others I've seen) proves that shorter barrel .44 magnum's can still run with the long dogs. Personally I think that unless you are using it specifically for hunting a 4-5" barrel .44 magnum is the ideal length hands down.
I was just thinking that! Haha I think he's much more comfortable to be more of himself on camera now. I also agree all the videos are great regardless. It's cool to see the evolution :)
Interesting comparison, thank you. On another note: the knives with such ejection mechanism like this one are EXCESSIVELY prone to malfunctioning - either the blade fails to pop up or it doesn't stay fully ejected upon the impact with the "target" (instead, it retracts).
My favorite Glock is one that I own. The gen 3 Glock 31. To me it is the most powerful and reliable small frame Glock. I love it to death. 15+1 of 357 Sig and a package I can conceal iwb and carry. (I'm 6'3" 215) is a combination that makes me feel extremely safe. I carry it with Underwood loaded 125g gold dots. Thing sounds like a rifle going off it has so much velocity. And it's good for some rings of fire in an indoor range.
Great little test. I was pretty surprised to see deeper penetration by the 2.5" .454 until I saw how much difference there was in the expansion. That .454 behind the .429 in the same channel was a once in a lifetime shot. Bragging rights on video!
Did the bullets travel farther because of the gel block being weakened from the other rounds? The entrance surface tension would be different the more the block was fired into.
The Taurus Raging Hunter in 454 Casull with a 6.75 inch barrel would be a good one to use. Taurus changed the paradigm and made materials and design come together into a totally perfect design.
The higher velocity deforms the bullet more causing a loss of penetration ability. The 44 magnum from the longer barrel penetrated deepest. Because a 300 grain 44 caliber bullet has a higher sectional density than a 45 caliber 300 grain bullet it penetrated deeper...
Although you can shoot the 454 out of the S&W 460, the 454 is considerably shorter than the 460 cartridge. Therefore, you are losing some velocity while the bullet rattles through the long chamber before it gets to the forcing cone.
Why are you losing velocity on the .454? The powder continues to burn while the bullet is making it's way through the chamber, forcing cone, and the barrel. I would think the slightly longer travel distance would help it burn more powder and go slightly faster. I'm no ballistics expert, though......
im former law enforcement... i have never been a fan of glock. They make a good gun, end of. But the worst thing about glock are the glock fans. for that reason and more, i dont like glock. BUT!!!!! I do own a glock 32 and that would be my fave glock.
Very nice demonstration and video! It is the recoil at 8:21 that makes me glad I bought the SRH Alaskan in 44 magnum instead of 454. Thanks for the informative video.
Favorite Glock is a Glock 29 loaded with a 15 round Glock 20 magazine in an XGRIP and mounted with a Streamlight TLR-6. This is my EDC in Alaska loaded with bear rounds.
I only have one, a G32 in 357 Sig. It's a little expensive to shoot but I enjoy it and handle it well. Not a fan of shooting it at indoor ranges but where I live gives me options so that's a small con. Great video keep them coming!!
With the 44 going turning and going backward at some point, the .44 was not slowed as much as it would have been if the mushroom head had be leading. Also, it would not have created as much tissue damage.
Robert explain the decrease in velocity. The 454 should have easily 50% more energy than a 44 magnum. I also see the neck of the 454 is actually bigger than the 460 S & W
@@michaelrooney3626 By the numbers .454 does have more energy. But energy is not the only variable in penetration. Energy, velocity, sectional density, and bullet design all play a big part in penetration. All I can see that's significantly different is 44 mag is .43 caliber and .454 is .454, given similar weights that means 44 mag has a longer bullet and more sectional density
Thank you for a fun and informative comparison. I'm retiring to Wyoming and selling my Glock 36. 45ACP to offset the cost for a Taurus 2.5 Raging Bull 2.5 barrel. I've come across Griz in both Alaska and Wyoming but no negative encounter. I fly fish a lot so just want to be prepared. Best and thanks!
Great idea, my friend. Thank you for doing this. But you really should have used 4 different sets of gel. The gel becomes compromised with every shot, and the possibility of any round tracking a previous path at any point changes the dynamics with less resistance, as you saw. Keep us posted!
I just got a ruger 44 mag with 3.75 barrel and im hoping im not losing alot of velocity with it being so short. I would assume its all in the round... Like using a faster burning powder with a heavier bullet.. Does that make sense?
That’s been my dream knife too, congrats! This was a very valuable video, for us up here in Alaska, who commonly use those very pistols and calibers for self defense against black and brown bears. I used to scoff at people who chose the short barrel revolvers, and now I have been re-educated. Either type is fine, and actually the shorter barrels have more advantages over the longer barreled versions for the roles we’d use them for here. Much appreciated!
Slower velocity hollow points may have more penetration, but not necessarily “better” penetration, because you can clearly see the higher energy bullets lifted the gel block more, and had wider, longer kinetic wound channels before settling back down. Non-expanding bullets of similar weight and sectional density, the higher velocity should produce deeper penetration. I was only surprised by how deep both of those cartridges could penetrate, in the shorter barreled guns, using hollow points. I now know, that I shouldn’t have to worry about only using hard cast or mono metal bullets with those guns. Either one with Hornandy XTP’s should be fine, for what I need them for. The solids will penetrate much deeper, but do much less damage and waste a lot of energy by passing all the way through. They are penetrating more than a 300 Win Mag, using most bullets, but I’d still prefer the much higher power of my 300 win Mag on a Brown Bear, over any of those guns. Most 300 Win Mag deer rounds will go in about 2ft, give or take an inch or two. Barnes TTSX will go at or around 30 or so inches, so though these have so much less energy than a 300 win Mag, they have adequate penetration, and even more than needed, actually.
WOW!!! Love the Benchmade Infidel!! Super awesome. 😍 Your comparison of the two calibers and barrel length differences is spot on. Only know this, you'll never be able to please everybody.
Interesting, I thought for sure the Casull would have more penetration, but I never would underestimate the 44. I have a Ruger Hunter,7 3/8 bbl, shot a 240 grain jacketed soft point through a pressure treated 4 by 4, 2 by 8 and one side of a truck tire back to back. Now that's some power.
Interesting. I do a lot of fishing in grizz country and after a harrowing experience two years ago my family bought me a S&W 44 mag. I thought about upgrading to a 454 casull but they don't seem much better if at all. I'll stick with my bear spray and 44 at this point.
454 casull had higher velocity (can open hollow points faster ) and a larger surface area . Those two factors explain why it had a bit less penetration even though it was the more powerful round . This means it also dumped its energy better into the target.
@Andy Wilson Yeah, I understand Physics. I was just expecting more from this round. the test may have presented better using fmj's, but the test was about expansion not penetration. Although the .44 Magnum out preformed the 454 in both!
@@blankeny im actually going to buy one , i shoot my friends 454 and his 44mag. I like both . So i do have a little experience with both caliber. No expert. But i have like the 454 a bit better.
I wonder if the gel being shot several times already compromised its integrity to some degree contributing to the last shot out of the short barrel traveling farther than the earlier shot out of the long barrel. Just curious. Love all the videos. This is the earliest one I've watched. Scott has come a long way in video quality creativity and on screen presence. Good for him doing what he loves and providing us all with great entertainment. God bless you man. Never stop doing what you do.
sweet vid Scott. I have 6 glocks. My favorite is my glock 37 in the 45 gap. It's a odd ball round, but out of the box and no tweaking, is the best shooting glock I own.
My favorite Glock is....None of them. Do they Suck? No, I just personally don't like them. Glock makes a good, reliable product, but I'm Better with a wheelie, it's what I cut my teeth on. That being said, I'd take anything in .357 magnum.
Cool vid. I recently acquired a .454 Casull "Raging Bull" for bear protection here in Alaska. I originally carried a S&W Model 29 .44 magnum w/ 6" barrel. The overall weight is pretty much the same from what I can tell. I carry pretty much everywhere in the bush regardless of weather conditions so it's also nice having the stainless steel finish.
Not really. He was using hollow points, which are designed to create immediate severe trauma upon impact, not penetration. Even without comparing ballistics, you can see the increased energy and violence of the .454 over the .44 mag. This energy is why the .454 mushroom is larger, is of lower weight and less penetration for identical 300 grain bullets. By design, the hollow point distributes the energy immediately upon impact, which you see in the video with the increased violence of the ballistics gel's movement upon impact, including the table underneath. Clearly the .454 is far more powerful. If you are looking for penetration, then put a flat nose hard cast bullet in there and the .454 will destroy the .44 mag as well. So, the .44 mag having more penetration here is a result of less energy displacement at impact. The bullet retains more weight, remains smaller in diameter, does not slow down as rapidly, hence penetrating more. That's actually a bad thing.
Surprising results. I kind of expected more from the .454. But you demonstration does show how much bullet weight and construction/type plays into choosing the right round for the job. Good work.
Would the .06 difference in chamber size allow for less of a seal using the .454 round in the 460? It seems to me that there would be the slightest blow by. Cool video nonetheless.
The diameter of both 454 and 460 is actually 0.452… most bullets actually don’t measure the same as their name. Like 5.56 nato is really 5.60mm (.224 inches) and 223 rem is really .224 inches
As you said. Some of the rounds went in the same entry points. Which doesn't make the test that accurate. Those jells aren't cheap but if you want to do it the right way. New gels for each round.8:20 played back at 0.25 speed you can see the gun point back at his face ! 🤯 Almost a wrist breaker. Be safe 👣
Wow, that's crazy! That's why, when handling bigger calibers, you load only 1 bullet at a time until you can control it. A lady double tapped a s&w 500 and it came back and almost blew her head off!
Great test. Unfortunately, it pits hunting revolvers against bear medicine revolvers and uses hunting bullets that are limited to the 44’s capacity. The gel material absorbing and its lightness is moving, so the imparted energy isn’t being observed. More so, hunting bullets expand more with more velocity, creating more resistance once inside. Since hydrostatic shock doesn’t happen at these velocities, expansion and penetration are your primary means of effectiveness. Where the 454 shines over the 44 is hard cast bear medicine. It can go heavier and faster. Some may argue the significance of the amount or the manageability of the platform, but its still a fact. A good follow up to this experiment would be the heaviest/fastest hard cast you can manage in a 44 vs the heaviest/fastest hard cast you can manage in a 454. I believe the outcome will show there’s no benefit to 454 for hunting, but the 454 is what you want for SD against bruins.
You are factually wrong. 454 makes the same energy at 100 yards as 44 does at the muzzle in a long barrel and, as such, shoots much flatter and more accurately with more penetration and expansion at any given range. 454 is confirmed to have dropped the big 5+ hippo in Africa.
@edwardcollier5949: You may not agree with my opinion, but please expand on specifically what was “Factually wrong”. Owning a Rossi 92 for both cartridges, I can assure you the 454 provides no practical gains in realistic HUNTING scenarios, regardless of the details of whatever arbitrary hippo kills you may have come across. Has a .22 Short ever killed a hippo? According to Peter Hathaway Capstick, the .22 Short RAPIDLY dispatched elephants multiple times. Is a .22 Short now superior to the .44 Magnum, as well? Let’s dispose of the internet killing tales and address the practical hunting vs bear defense point I was making. I can guarantee you that you’ve never heard someone say “I’d have taken the shot on that deer, bear, elk, etc. if I had a 454 Casull, but I only had a .44 Magnum.”. Below 2000fps, there’s no effective hydrostatic shock. In hunting with cartridges of these speeds, energy that does anything beyond full penetration hasn’t been proven to be more effective (There’s your fact). Accurately hitting the vitals and penetrating them with a projectile possessing significant cross section are the only things that are actually known to matter. (another fact). That applies from 125gr broadhead traveling at 260fps to a 360gr .460 S&W hollow point moving at 1400fps. That is how I arrive at the OPINION that the 454’s realistic value is certain situations (convenience vs the safety of a 12ga) regarding bear defense. Unlike hunting, the most realistic self-defense shot will be head on, (vs an easier penetrated ribcage). Thick skull and dense muscle. Coastal black bear can get north of 500lbs and 999 out of 1000 will run from you. Bear #1000 is where that added energy of the 454 provides the comforting thought of sinking a heavy, hard cast projo deeper than the .44 Magnum. Good luck with your 454 Casull hippo hunt.
I'm a Glock 35 fan with all aftermarket barrela. Start with a 5.3" .40 S&W that can handle hot loads getting it into mid-range 10mm territory, then add in a .357 Sig and 9mm barrel. Three great calibers, one good platform that can be great with a few improvements.
I have several. The 40 is my fave with the 45 as a close number 2. Highly educational video. Thanks..... You have me drooling over a 44 tho. It seems I got to have one (or 2).
Hahaha! duh-am, you haven't found your Kentucky legs yet. Now that I've seen this earlier vid, I want to search when you became the "Scott" we all know and love.
I think the reason the 454 shot from the longer barrel didn't penetrate deeper was because the chamber in that gun is actually cut for 460. The step at the end of the case is cut deeper for 460 and leaves a small gap that the 454 bullet has to jump. This also allows some gas to escape. The same thing happens when firing 38 specials from a 357 max or 38 short from a 357 mag. The 454 fired from an actual 8 inch 454 gun would have penetrated deeper than the 44mag. 44 mag is still better all aroundthan 454cas. Nearly the same performance for less than half the cost. Plus on most guns you get a full 6 shots instead of 5 on most 454s.
Not really...it expended further and could transfer more energy that way into the target, that's why it stopped earlier. Just compare the first impact. And you want your energy to go in to the target and not in the surface behind it. That's why HP are hard to compare on distance (it's rather a measurement how much energy is still there to harm bystanders), you compare it in energy transfer . FMJ would give totally other results
Sean Johnson titanium guide rod is a waste of money.... Stainless steel is just as good and cheaper..... And besides, its the spring lbs thats important.... What metal that spring rides on is about as irrelevant a choice as someone can make....
I don't own any stock glocks anymore. I used to have the 19, 26, 22, 23, 27, 20, and 29, in various generations. Now I have Polymer 80 frames in the following configurations, only glock parts are OEM internals. 19/23 (2), 26/27 (1, the frame takes 26 and 27 uppers and mags), also have their hybrid frame that uses 17/22 slides on a 19/23 height frame. 2 of those. My baby though is the pf45 frame with Lonewolf 20 upper, Stormlake 6" barrel. It is such an improvement over the gen3/4 20 frame! 10mm, and it is my light duty woods gun. Carry it mostly while gold panning and dredging all over Idaho, montana and washington.
If money is no object, I think for more accurate test there should be a fresh non-fired gel for each bullet. But I also understand that those gel is expensive.
I Love your work , real world testing and real world results,, on paper put they have 454 way ahead of 44,mag , real world shows just how many influences are really involved ,
Overall results: Dead Honestly, I'd say they're quite comparable in the "You're not limping away" category. On a side note, it's fun watching your new stuff and then finding one of these older videos. What a stark contrast.

Ross is the 44 Magnum recoil alot lighter than the 454?
I love both calibers and guns.
Younger Scott sounds calm and dignified lol
Not as fun and hilarious, but still enjoyable to watch
I don't think it would make a lot of difference if one bullet travels 7 inches further when shooting at an intruder unless he was a proper lardass.
@@thealarmclock9307, What?
Since it has already penetrated thirty inches...
@@valdo345jr thats what she said🤣
Perfect video showing the real difference in power potential between short vs. long barreled, same caliber revolvers. Not much overall difference, giving a big advantage towards the snub-nose for carrying convenience. Please keep up these informative videos, ESPECIALLY Big Bore Revolvers!
This is making me realize I don't need anything bigger than my .44 Magnum Super Blackhawk.
It's also making me realize I want a 454 Casull.
It's crazy how this is his real personality and the funny one that we know today is just his stage personality
Or maybe that’s his real one and he just wasn’t comfortable on camera yet?
He definitely wasn’t comfortable on camera. I think he was a state trooper at this time too.
Dang the recoil on that 454 Casull stubby had the barrel pointing at your head @8:21
My fave and only Glock is the G20, for which I also have a G40 upper for the field. I EDC the G20 and love it.
wow you look like a little kid and much more calmer six years ago..
Hater lol. You’re saying he’s gotten bigger and more comfortable with his personality
yep.. much more funner to watch now.@@Caden080
Probably married now 😅
Bullet running out of gas just as it exits and rolling away is amazing.
That second shot out of the 454 shorty looked like the recoil did a number on you. I saw straight down the barrel it did such a jump
I like your comparisons of long/short barrel guns thanks!
Crazy how Scott has evolved in his videos!!
Never seen much of your earlier videos, not used to you being not so enthusiastic like pater ones, getting used to that. Love your videos all the same
I was just thinking that! Haha I think he's much more comfortable to be more of himself on camera now. I also agree all the videos are great regardless. It's cool to see the evolution :)
That is some wicked recoil out of the 454
Why do publishers insist on putting more than one word per page?
Price and availability of ammo favors the .44 mag
My favorite Glock is a Kimber Pro Carry II.
Okay boomer
@@zacharylankford4812 Why do I get the feeling you wouldn’t insult my parents to my face?
I own 2 44 magnum it's my favorite cartridge.
The 454 permanent cavity is insane!
Both calibers still did well from the short barrels.
Because a 300 grain 44 caliber bullet has a higher sectional density than a 45 caliber 300 grain bullet it penetrated deeper...
great point i would say in this case 44 mag red hawk is the winner . I'm surprised
That bullet casually walking out of the ballistic gel at 6:17 is the most funny gun footage I have seen
lol, I'm glad you liked it.
I just ordered an Alaskan 454! I can't wait!
Favorite Glock 32 & Glock 40 M.O.S. also own the Alaskan 454 with 2.5
Great comparison. You can really see the energy transfer difference between the 454 and 44.
im former law enforcement... i have never been a fan of glock. They make a good gun, end of. But the worst thing about glock are the glock fans. for that reason and more, i dont like glock. BUT!!!!! I do own a glock 32 and that would be my fave glock.
Exactly same as the dodge charger/ challenger .
that first shot with the short 44 was one in a millon!
I love my Ruger .454 Alaskan!
Very nice demonstration and video! It is the recoil at 8:21 that makes me glad I bought the SRH Alaskan in 44 magnum instead of 454. Thanks for the informative video.
he wasnt holding the gun properly what so ever
Favorite Glock is a Glock 29 loaded with a 15 round Glock 20 magazine in an XGRIP and mounted with a Streamlight TLR-6. This is my EDC in Alaska loaded with bear rounds.
Mine is exactly the same.
Outstanding video Scott. Keep it up man.
Thanks Buffalo! I will try my best!
Thanks for the video but for this test to be more accurate you would need a new ballistics gel for every shot. Cool nonetheless.
I appreciate the thoroughness of your comparisons. I come from an inspection background. I can derive a lot out raw data.
Glock 19 and 26. Both are awesome firearms in my opinion.
Another great video review. Thanks.
Great picks man! Thanks and thanks for watching!
I only have one, a G32 in 357 Sig. It's a little expensive to shoot but I enjoy it and handle it well. Not a fan of shooting it at indoor ranges but where I live gives me options so that's a small con. Great video keep them coming!!
Shooting the 454 out of a 460 s&w allowed extra gases to escape and not build up to push the long barrel shot to go as fast as the 454 Alaskan
I have to agree
With the 44 going turning and going backward at some point, the .44 was not slowed as much as it would have been if the mushroom head had be leading. Also, it would not have created as much tissue damage.
A 460 has a 452 bullet diameter. 460s parent case is 454. There is nothing detrimental about shooting 454 from a 460
Robert explain the decrease in velocity.
My favorite Glock is a Taurus millennium g2
Wow thank you for your time and effort. Great vid.
I have a 2.65" 44 mag s&w 629. Slower velocity actually is better for penetration. I carry my 44 mag for big NY black bears.
Man cool to see where Scott started from, still great content but he has really turned up the excitement now a days 😁
I like these old videos more.
thank you Kentucky Ballistics love the 44 magnum videos!!! keep'em coming!
No problem! Thanks man!
Shouldn't you use a new block of gelatin for each shot to negate the possibility of having a bullet crossing the wound channel of a previous round?
WOW!!! Love the Benchmade Infidel!! Super awesome. 😍 Your comparison of the two calibers and barrel length differences is spot on. Only know this, you'll never be able to please everybody.
The 44 magnum goes deeper into the block because the greater velocity of the 454 Casull causes too much bullet expansion.
He was using shitty bullets for the .454, .454 is much better than .44 mag especially for bear.
I own both btw.
Hell...I luv dem Glucks...they gluckup my brass! I bought 20 of them and they collectively made a wonderful boat anchor!
I was surprised that the .44 magnum exerted more penetration than the 454 Casull...
Good video, thanks!
@@blankeny or a hardcast 454 vs hardcast 44mag , the 454 would definitely overshadow the 44mag . That would be a good video.
Question, do you even own a 454 Casull. And this is not story time...
44 mag is and always will be my favorite then comes to 357 Magnum
I just got the ad for Safelite armor featuring this guy
Hey its me from the future am I wanna say your grown an changed so much since 6 years ago seeing an watching these old videos give me core memories
sweet vid Scott. I have 6 glocks. My favorite is my glock 37 in the 45 gap. It's a odd ball round, but out of the box and no tweaking, is the best shooting glock I own.
Thanks! That is pretty sweet man!
My favorite Glock is....None of them. Do they Suck? No, I just personally don't like them. Glock makes a good, reliable product, but I'm Better with a wheelie, it's what I cut my teeth on. That being said, I'd take anything in .357 magnum.
this video is very valuable. thank you for your hard work
You’ve become a lot jollier over the years
Love ur videos decides to watch some of ur first ones. U have come along way . Keep on making em ! Glock 48 9mm
8:21 first opportunity to put a thumb in it. 💀
The recoil was crazy 😂😂😂
Cool vid. I recently acquired a .454 Casull "Raging Bull" for bear protection here in Alaska. I originally carried a S&W Model 29 .44 magnum w/ 6" barrel. The overall weight is pretty much the same from what I can tell. I carry pretty much everywhere in the bush regardless of weather conditions so it's also nice having the stainless steel finish.
it seems the 454 has an explosive entry, while the 44 penetrates a few inches more. Very interesting.
Good work.
Thanks man! Glad you liked it!
Very good test Scot The longer barrel generates more power for penetration. Hands down!!!
Nice video! The Tarus Raging Bull is my choice shoots .410/.45/.454 causall. My fav. Glock is a 23 gen 3.
That's the Raging Judge that also shoots .410 not the Raging Bull...
just found this old video thanks for the comparison
As you said. Some of the rounds went in the same entry points. Which doesn't make the test that accurate. Those jells aren't cheap but if you want to do it the right way. New gels for each round.8:20 played back at 0.25 speed you can see the gun point back at his face ! 🤯 Almost a wrist breaker. Be safe 👣
Wow, that's crazy! That's why, when handling bigger calibers, you load only 1 bullet at a time until you can control it. A lady double tapped a s&w 500 and it came back and almost blew her head off!
Production values have come a long way since 2017.

Hahaha! duh-am, you haven't found your Kentucky legs yet. Now that I've seen this earlier vid, I want to search when you became the "Scott" we all know and love.
My favorite glock ?
Gen 3 17 9mm polymer 80 that I built.. has the feel of a 1911 with the reliability of glock.. best pistol I have ever owned..
That makes sense, yeah.
Oh and my fave Glock is my G30. Highly accurate out of the box. I replaced the factory sights with XS Express sights. Very good addition.
My favorite Glock also and I feel I'm more accurate with it than most
.454 Casull vs .460 S&W next please.
Glock 20, gen3 with talon grips, titanium guide rod and underwood extreme ammo
Sean Johnson titanium guide rod is a waste of money.... Stainless steel is just as good and cheaper..... And besides, its the spring lbs thats important.... What metal that spring rides on is about as irrelevant a choice as someone can make....
Glock 20 or 22, ideally g20 love that 10mm
How many times can you shoot the same gel and get real results. Won’t the previous wound channels jet weaken the gel?
If money is no object, I think for more accurate test there should be a fresh non-fired gel for each bullet. But I also understand that those gel is expensive.
I Love your work , real world testing and real world results,, on paper put they have 454 way ahead of 44,mag , real world shows just how many influences are really involved ,
I know this was taken five years ago, but my favorite magnum would be the long barrel magnum.
Favorite Glock is the 23. I have a 19 (9mm) and 32 (.357 SIG) conversion barrel. By far, the 23 is one of the most versatile.
That's awesome man.
Overall results: Dead
Honestly, I'd say they're quite comparable in the "You're not limping away" category.
On a side note, it's fun watching your new stuff and then finding one of these older videos. What a stark contrast.
You did great job with this gel test! Good shooting and well presented! Thank you.
