Man, I never thought I would feel inadequate owning a .357 but damn... I love seeing the hard cast bullet tests - seriously terrifying stuff. Great video Scott! RIP table.
+Saryet lol! Hey 357 Mag is a great caliber. Thanks man and thanks for watching!
Both ideal for concealed carry
Too big to conceal lol.
@@ramonbowie7289 that's the joke
In bear country yah. I think they make one with a sling, inside a big puffer jacket
Spittin facts baby😂🎉
@@chocolatemilk4437 I love your perfectly logical thinking
You know it's going to be a good video when 64 inches of ballistics gel is needed.
I remember taking my new 357 to the indoor range. It had a flash, a loud bang. It was the beast of the range till a guy in the lane next to me shot his 460! I could feel the concussion and there is a little wall between the lanes. I had to put my 357 in therapy. It felt like a 22 short.
He called it quits because his arms got sore because he isn't a robot. But he shot those guns like a champ.
It's amazing to see the creative development over time. Just keeps getting better. Thanks Scott!
I laughed so hard at these - the family had to come see what I was watching! Thanks for sharing this, as always!
Drink every time he says, “all right, guys.” Drunk in 37 seconds.
title should be "Alright guys, 460 S&W Magnum vs 500 S&W Magnum (Ballistics Gel)"
OMG, you're a youngin in this video. I remember watchin this when it first came out. Glad to see you are doing good.
This is the long way of saying "I hate my wrists".
Thanks again for another great presentation. I think after watching this, you don't need to really get into specific ballistics. All those rounds hit hard and it sure was fun watching them hit
Thanks again! I appreciate the time, money, and effort it takes to put these videos together.
He's so calm in these early videos.
The virgin Extreme Penetrator: 36"
VS
The chad Hardcast: went through all the 4 block + smacked that plank like a pimp.
being a 500 mag owner with a 5in barrel. I send my deepest condolences to you're hand's that 700gr bullet just hurts to shoot.... RIP.
That was one of the most merica things I've ever seen..
..THANK YOU!!🇺🇸
Thanks for the info. I'm pretty happy I picked up a 460 over a 500
so glad I purchased a good amount of my ammo from Underwood!!! not only are they very affordable, but also extremely clean-burning on top of it.
had tested a box of their 240-grain .44 Magnum cartridges in my Desert Eagle during my last visit to the range, and it actually cycled so well, that I didn't have a single malfunction.
That’s pretty cool
@@smokedbeefandcheese4144 and that's how good business is dealt when regular customers stocks up on ammo like Underwood, especially since their cartridges are quite strong (as in "spicy rounds")
the most under-rated channel , in my opinion
Well thanks!
This is extremely well done. You are clearly a subject matter expert but keep it simple enough that a novice can follow what you are saying. Fantastic job!
Years later and "nice clean table" is just hilarious!
05-27-24 - Scott, you sure have come a long way in your videos.
Been watching for a long time, felt like looking up 460s, this was the first video. Was not disappointed lmao.
Take a shot everytime he says "Alright, guys."
Auf wen?
I was thinking the exact same thing!!
That hard case 460 was crazy going through all the 4 gel blocks. 500 also made it through all the blocks. I think the hard case does better than the extreme penetrator in penetrating through soft material. But what about hard targets like steel. Will the extreme penetrator do better than the hard case in penetrating hard steel targets?
Not getting the gel dirty. Reminds me of telling my 4 year old boy please don't get lunch all over your clothes. Boom 2 seconds later disaster strikes. It never fails lol
+The Kentucky Patriot Haha ! Sometimes you just can't win lol
You have the best videos....straight to the point. Keep up the good work.
Holy buckets!! The expansion on those XTP's was ridiculous. Same goes for the penetration on those hardcasts. Amazingly potent revolvers!!
Ahh Scott as a young UA-camr..... Lol ...Funny how your video style has changed.... Good stuff man
Bring back the old videos! With the new Kentucky ballistics
I have a 460 and it is an awesome round!!! Good tests, and the rounds shredded your gel!
Great, Great, video! You have given us a lot of valuable information. I really appreciate all the time and effort using a wide variety of ammo for comparison. Keep up the good work!
+precisionmarksman Thanks man, I'm glad you like the vids. I'll try and keep them coming. Thanks again and thanks for watching!
Starting Scott's addiction with plastic tables!
It seems to me that gel penetration testing is somewhat open to interpretation but nevertheless, you invested a lot of time and resources into this test which is commendable. It was an interesting test. Good video.
Thanks man
Incredible power of the 500 mag. Wow. Good vids, Scott.
I just took delivery of my s&w 500 magnum about two weeks ago and I’m really happy with it also I took delivery of my s&w 460 magnum abut a year ago and it’s really great
You’re the only person I’ve seen shoot the .500 and not say anything about the pain. Must be tougher in Kentucky
You sold me 500mag in my left shoulder holster and 460 mag in right. And I demoted my 44 mag to backup.
Jesse Reiter -The holster for my 460 XL w/ 8 3/8” barrel is a chest holster. I don’t think you could carry them both unless you are a huge man !!!
Howdy Scott I watch all your videos. This video you don't seem your self, the funny fellow that always chuckles after each shot. I hope all is well and looking forward to your next video.
It is amazing how you have grown as a presenter. Your current videos are so much different than these early ones. Well done Scott.
I feel like near death experiences will do that to a person... that 50 cal incident of his is truly bone chilling.
@@streamylc bone chilling is a bit dramatic
That 700 grain is a monster!
Lots of opinions here. Intreasting reading. I bought a 460 but I think 1 is as good as the other. It's kinda like comparing motorcycle crashes, who is more dead? The guy who wrecked going 200mph or the guy going 210mph. Good job Scott.
I’ve learned so much from your videos. Thanks for what you’re doing!
Thanks!
Thank you for all your work. Very informative.
Thank you! No problem.
My goodness, recoil on that 700 grainer!
Matt from demolition ranch would be crying from all the 500 magnums being shot because he always complains about the recoil on his 500
HOLY HARD CAST BATMAN!!!!
those HC are awesome.
Hey thanks for all the work you put into making this video. Hope your wrists are ok.
+bluedial2 Hey its no problem, Thanks man and it's all good lol
I've got the 460 xvr and I love it. A buddy of mine has the 500, I've shot that one, but with 350 gr. bullets, that definitely lets you know you shot big bore, I can't believe the recoil of that 700 grain bullet! Holy cow. I'm trying to work up some load data for my 50 Beowulf with that 700 grain bullet. Wish me luck with that. Another excellent video Scott! Keep up the great work.
This is a cool ass channel my friend.. Not sure why UA-cam didn't recommend this to me sooner.
And the 700 grain flat point is somewhere over south Kansas, in a range war with the Winchester boys . . .
Love the videos!! My performance center 460 is my very favorite gun of all time
TWO bloody great handfuls!
Awesome gel test I'm really wanting a 460
I absolutely love mine, and will be getting another
"Alright guys," i love this channel.
Thank You Scott, that was one hell of a test! Wish I was able to purchase both of those guns, maybe some day God willing Again thanks and God Bless!
+Dennis Johnson No problem! Thank you!
I really enjoy your channel, it’s very informative. I just purchased some ar500 at our for my son. He’s a Knox County, TN Sheriff’s deputy.
Alright, peep this. I got a new drinking game! Every time he says, "Alright guys" you have to drink. Bet ya can't make it through the video! 😆
64" of penetration ... seems like a good self defense round
Yup... again grizzly bears. pack nothing smaller in the Yukon.
Yep, when you can use a 6-shot revolver to take out a mob of 30 people.
I enjoy watching Dan Henderson shoot big guns.
HAHA! That is funny dude. Not the first time I have heard that.
Alright guys, fuzzy science but I did learn some stuff and it was fun as hell to watch. Thanks.
I just got my 460 mainly due to flexibility of firing 45colt, 454casull, 460sw but it is a heavy gun even with the5.5in bbl(sw/xvr)!
I bet his wrists hurt a bit the next day. I've shot the 500 S&W magnum before. It's no joke at all. And although the channel has grown over the years I still really like the no b.s. get to the point format of the older videos. Project Farm is set up exactly this way and had been wildly successful. Great video.
Yep I will usually skip and goto the highlights. Even then his stuff is more entertainment than actually useful information like it used to be.
Both calibers are crazy powerful but that 500 is something else. Good video!
Thanks man!
I really enjoyed the video!
How many times he said, all right guys....
“Okay guys”
Lol
Ridiculous horsepower on full display. You absorbed some punishment, Scott!
Good demonstration! I am a big bore fan from way back, I haven't had the fun playing with the new x frame S&W, but they certainly show some real potential for a portable howitzer. LOL
Man, sometimes I wonder how much power these Magnums really have, they are impressive
These magnums HAVE a metric SHIT TON of kenetic energy to 'em 😯🙉🙈🙊..!!
.460 for ammo diversity.
glad I got one for myself
Those hard cast pills are awesome! Thanks for the interesting test.
+Ryan Simpson No problem, Thanks for watching!
Just purchased an S&W .460 7.5" Performance Center I'm excited to turn some heads on the range with it!!!
That 500 grain soft point would be my go-to for bear defense or hunting. You see the mushroom on that thing. I thought it was a shiitake for a second.
Agreed
An excellent between penetration and expansion.
That mushroom is picture perfect and damn near symmetrical.
More impressed that you were able to shoot those guns that many times. Liking the video because that was impressive!
Really enjoy all of your videos
Thanks man!
Awesome video man
you should edit out the "alright guys" parts
460 is a superior cartridge in my opinion.
But the 500 just oozes badassery
Got a 460. The 500 is next to get. Pricey, but so damn worth it.
Good Lord A-mighty, sir! At 2:47 that gel block jumped up and flipped around. Great testing on these monster calibers, Scott!
Thanks man !
awesome videos , just found your channel thanks to the gun collective. keep the great videos comin!!
Glad to have you and thanks for subscribing!

Excellent ballistics test video.
The best out the two revolvers is the .460 S/W mag.,reason being because its much cheaper to shoot,(even if you reload your own ammo)
you have a broader range of loads in the .460.You can shoot .45 Long Colt,.454 Casull, then the full blown .460 mags.through it.Now the .500 S/W mag.is a very different beast, you can only shoot .500 mags though this revolver. The .500 mag.is like saying"10 gauge",you cannot shoot anything but 3-1/2"magnum shells in the 10 bore which makes the gun nearly useless with the exception of ducks, geese, bear, moose. The .500 S/W is in the boat of being a very"specialized"round for large and dangerous game like African Bull elephant,Grizzly bear,Rhino etc.
So as far as it goes between these two calibers, the .460 is the winner by far.Its a Saturday afternoon plinker(.45 Long Colt)to stay in practice with, the fall of the year during deer season(.454 Casull)to bring home venison. Then a trip to Africa for African bull elephant.(.460 400 grain cast-core sledge hammer by Buffolo-Bore)
Very good points man. All reasons I plan to get one.
Kentucky Ballistics It's the only way to roll I think. You'll have a lot more fun with the .460.😀
4 gauge what is cast core by buffalo bore?
Ping Pong Its a super hard lead bullet(high tin content/sometimes with a brass core for dangerous game like African Bull elephant) that is manufactured by a company called"Buffolo-Bore".
This company produces the worlds hardest-hitting,highest muzzle velocity magnum rifle/handgun loads,is beating Underwood ammo company.(a lot of guys claim Underwood is the"top-gun"load,but when you compare the ballistic numbers,Buffolo-Bore wins)
4 gauge is this only for african bull elephant? will it work on charging grizzly?
Beautiful performance by the .500 S&W 500 gr
Great video. Now I want a 500 magnum.
That’s to you sir, I had to buy a 500 magnum!!! Please feed my kids!!
I'm in the market for a 500 so thank you for this video!
just buy an ar-15 and a pistol.
@@georgebsuh5144 Already have 10 AR's and about 40 handguns. I don't have a 500 yet.
-Get the 460 and you will have a lot more fun !
Very interesting. Thank you.
great job, keep up the good work. semper fi, here in fairdale ky
Drinking Game: "Alright Guys"
Frank Moody Watch a video of Idahoan Painter (I think that's the channel) listen to how he says Stucco. Take a shot every time he draws out stucco.
They gotta change the name of them extreme perpetrators.
Badgerrr Lattin New and improved kinda sorta ok penetrators!
Nice video guy!! Good shooters
This test was amazing. I liked your setup with 64 inches of gel. And still went through the back. My favorite thing to shoot with the 500 is pumpkins. Also killed a deer with mine.
Dang Scott, you were just a baby! So serious, no laugh after every shot! Glad you have gotten a lot more loose and had more fun with it as time went on.
Now those are what I call *B I G I R O N S*
THIRD TIME I'VE WATCH THIS ONE.GREAT GUNS LOVE THEM BOTH.
Wow those big boys are powerful not much ballistic data cause they pretty much destroyed the whole dam shooting rang great video!!!
ok guys... alright guys... ok guys.... alright guys.................
let's play a game, drink whenever he says "okay guys" and "oh right guys"
Son Vu how long b4 you are totally wasted. By the end of this video we would be hauled off in an ambulance...
i love my 500 smith 4 inch . hella bang
I ordered from Underwood and the ammo is great! Can't believe they shipped to Massachusetts:-)
+Chuck Person Awesome man!
Awesome video! New to the channel but I'm really digging it.
Thanks man! Glad you like it!
