Pretty much what I expected from standard 45 Colt ammo. But there are some very hot 45 Colt rounds out there. I'd like to see some of that against a clay block. Maybe 44 mag vs 45 Colt +P
The .45 long Colt is a hand loader's dream. I have been reloading it for 50 years. Power plus and very accurate. The original .45 pushed a 255 gr lead bullet about 855 fps. Jacketed 240,250,260 and 300 gr all match and surpass the .44 mag. Check the Nosler reloading manual for 300gr partition. How about 1100 fps? I don’t know about anybody else but I think shooting clay is way better than ballistic gel! And 36 grs of Win 296, oh yeah, that’s some power baby! Awesome fireball too! Great video, can’t wait for the next one!
The Casull is rated 1800 FPE and the 45LC is about 1200 FPE so that was to be expected. Drop the clay and get some railroad ties stacked and then compare all the different handguns. Clay is child's play.
454 Casull most definitely a Bear defense cartridge. I own a Ruger454 Casull Ruger Super Redhawk with a 9.5 inch Barrel. I feel confident in the wilderness.
I shot a buck with the 454, back in 2001. It went down then got up and ran off. I was shooting a 260 gr HP handload. This first time I shot that gun at 100 yards, hit the golf ball. I enjoy accurate guns, but I don't like going deaf.
My dad got him one of the little shorty polymer framed Judges to have fun out on our home steel range. He got some upgraded rubber grips for it and it's now a pretty sweet little shooter surprisingly. I've been thinkin about buying a block of clear ballistic gel, but after seeing you shoot these clay blocks so much, I think I might get some of these instead. I aint so much concerned about exact wound cavities and such and these are waaaay cheaper. Another fun video! 👍
Kinda surprised about that 45 Colt! Especially with the XTP. The 454 would flat open you up if someone used it as a rib tickler! That thing is a “Bar Gun”! Big old Kodiak lookin’ fellers! Nifty video!
I have had the Ruger Super Redhawk in .454 Casull and taken elk, deer and antelope with it. I now own the Rossi 92 SS lever gun and it gives you near 45-70 (trapdoor) performance in a handy little rifle. She is finicky on feeding 45 Colt unless the a load the FTX tipped bullets. It is gun enough for the hunting I do these days.
As I was growing up I have always known it as the 45 long colt. But when I did my research on buying one in ruger Blackhawk I found out that it really was 45colt
Great video.Thats one hand cannon.I have some adapters for my single shot break open 12 guage shotgun that i shoot 45 long colt out of.I have adapters for most pistol calibers and 410 but i sure wish i could find one for that 454.That would be awesome. The barrel is short but long enough to aim pretty good.
I remember your 9mm video, and I’m surprised the .45 long didn’t do “more” as well. That 454 though- INSANE cannon! (I’d love to see a 2x4 behind the target to see what kind of penetration it’s getting after going through the clay, but either way, the videos are fun) 👍🏼
Great video! I just picked up a 6" Judge Magnium and found out there a TONS of different ammo that it will shoot! With moon clips and cylinder inserts! THAT would be a REALLLLLY COOL VIDEO!! From 22lr up to 410 shot shells?
The 454 and 460 would be a lot closer comparison than the 45c. I handload all three , and a max charge in the 45c doesn’t even get close to mild loads in the other two. The 454 will hang with the 460 up to the 325gr bullet range.
The debate over whether there is a .45 "Long" Colt cartridge is an on-going one that has been active for probably 75 years. Elmer Keith alluded to the arguments many years ago when he wrote "...Some newcomers to the game claim there is no such animal, but if they had shot the short variety that Remington turned out in such profusion before, during and after World War I they would see there was some basis in referring to the .45 Colt as the .45 Long..." (Elmer Keith, Sixguns, page 285)
Cool video Adam! I have a 454 Taurus Raging Bull and a 454 Lever Action Rifle - those are my primary bear protection guns for Alaska! You should try shooting those 454 rounds out of a rifle! I'd let you borrow mine but it's in storage up in Alaska, waiting on me to get back there in May.
45 colt factory loads are loaded to 14,000 PSI. Colt SAA and clones , will not hold up well to any more pressure. The 454 on the other hand is generally loaded to 50;000 PSI. NO contest.
45 Colt is correct. "Long colt" is a misnomer carried forward for over a century after people started calling it that because it was "long" compared to the 45 schofield.
Another great video. If you have a friend with a 454/45 Colt lever gun, you might try the same test. The longer barrel should give you more speed & less fireball (& it's easier on your wrist).
My Ruger super redhawk Alaskan , i shoot both 45LC and 454 casull. Zero recoil with the long colt and wrist busting, palm numbing fire ball heaving fun. I load up the first 3 with cowboy load 45LC and the last 3 with 400 grain buffalo bore 454, and give to friends to compare. No matter how strong they are, muzzle flip is always obvious
45 Colt name. The 45 Colt is the official name used by the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute (SAAMI). The common misnomer name 45 long Colt is not required. It was never officially named 45 long Colt and it's use is incorrect. Yes, everyone's familiar with the 45 Colt cartridge back in the calvary days. The soldiers came up with the 45 long Colt designation, because of the shorter 45 S&W Scofield cartridge. I'm not stating this to change your mind, I'm just educating you on the only correct name 45 Colt.

I don’t know about anybody else but I think shooting clay is way better than ballistic gel! And 36 grs of Win 296, oh yeah, that’s some power baby! Awesome fireball too! Great video, can’t wait for the next one!
Man Who Tee, I haven't been able to find 45 colt ammo anywhere for the last 5 months amazed you found some
I have had this for a year
454 Casull will definitely mess up the part in your hair!
45 long colt left a bad toupee. 454 was no joke.
Good testing as that 454 casull is a beast of a round....Good stuff....
Dang Whotee that Fireball out of the 454 about Cooked that Clay
Pretty impressive the Casull 454 as it's twice the energy of the 44 magnum.
There are some 300 grain 45 LC that are almost like some 44 magnums.
Twice the energy as 44?? How???
@@Catgat37
44 MagnumXTP JHP 240 gr. 1045 foot pounds energy 1400 fps.
454 CasullXTP JHP 240 gr. 1924 foot pound energy 1900 fps.
From Underwood ammo
I think the 45 colt would have been more impressive if you’d hit it dead center first shot!
Great video Who-Tee! The more videos I watch with the. 454 Casull round, the more I ponder about getting the next handgun I don't need! 🙂👍
I truly think you missed your calling by not announcing football games play-by-play! I’d pay to hear you do commentary of the Super Bowl
😂😂😂 I don't watch any sports
I love loading h110 in magnums. Always a good fire ball in a snub barrel
Casull is no joke. Very impressive destruction.
As I was growing up I have always known it as the 45 long colt.
But when I did my research on buying one in ruger Blackhawk I found out that it really was 45colt
The fact that you shot the .454 at 4:54 is great, nice touch
😝😝😝
That fireball was great!
Good idea. Thanks for watching Andrew
Every time you bring out your Taurus I am amazed at how big that revolver is. Makes my S&W 357 look like a mini.
Love that thing
Those heavy bullets out of a handgun will naturally hit high on the target.
When I go to the range I almost always take my .454. I shoot it last & it's nothing but smiles all the way home.
🔥🔥🔥
Great shots. The first clay you were shooting the right and top.
That is crazy!
The exit channel is scary!
That round freight trained right through that clay.
Seeing as they don't really make like a 45 short Colt I'm comfortable saying that it's a 45 Colt
(4:20) Clayman there lookin' like the T1000 at the end of T2
Awesome man Great video.
Maybe try something with a longer barrel like a Ruger Super Redhawk with a 7 inch barrel? Get more velocity from the ammo.
45 colt factory loads are loaded to 14,000 PSI. Colt SAA and clones , will not hold up well to any more pressure. The 454 on the other hand is generally loaded to 50;000 PSI. NO contest.
In the slow motion at point blank it looked like the muzzle blast hit the clay. I think I'll get me a Judge and some 454. Wow
That 454 is grizzly bear defense medicine!!!🐻
45 Colt is correct. "Long colt" is a misnomer carried forward for over a century after people started calling it that because it was "long" compared to the 45 schofield.
Dang! I want a 460 S&W someday. Shoot some LCs, 454s, 460s, and 410s.
That 454 was mean excellent video as always. The one with the birdshot was insane, anyone doubtful of birdshot at close range show them that video.
POINT BLANK AWESOMENESS in ACTION!!!!!! BOOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Picked me up a new revolver windicator 357 mag love it so far
That first shot made your clay look like Saitama flicked a pebble at it...
The clay molding loses its merit when the colt is just short of a cannon itself. Rested 25 yd tests would make more sense in my opinion.
cool vid, now try a 360 grain buffalo bore, and a longer barrel, you will be impressed for sure.
.45LC is King, the most versatile cartridge, you can load it small, or high to fit any situation
My worst yet, was when I traded my 454 ragging bull. Thanks Who Tee Who 👍🇺🇸
Daggumit
a hot 45 lc is about 19.7 gn powder, and a 454 is about 27.5 and a 5 grain lighter bullet. no wonder the casul is so powerful. that being said. the 45 lc is a hoot to shoot
That was awesome !!
🔥🔥🔥
You sir have one of my dream revolvers, that 454 is a nasty round.
Who agrees that Who Tee should invite his subscribers over to his house to shoot all the rifles and pistols he has on that nice range. We ll bring some ammo if we can find any.
Ammo is slim pickins
This is one Ive been waiting for.
I bought the "Raging Bull" some 20 years ago.
First shot I took was at a white tail deer ruuning straight toward me.
I squuzed off a 250 gr jacketed hollow point at 70 yards, with the scope planted between his eyes.
Result, TOTAL DECAPITATION FRON THE NASAL BRIDGE UP.
That fur covered 7 point skull cap is still hanging in my garage and that was the last time I shot that rhino of a Revolver.
GREAT COMPARE & CONTRAST VIDEO!
