being racist to Indians is actually considered funny on the internet. ” curry ” and several other terms for the mockery of Indians is so normalized at this point, hope this video reaches to a whole lot of people for awareness.
there’s recently an upsurge in racism on the internet recently, you would think it would become less common, but it seems we’re regressing instead of progressing, lots of sexism and homophobia/transphobia too, and if you try to educate these people, they’ll just call you a pedo, while claiming they’re being logical and factual while anyone else is being emotional, it’s ridiculous
@@mirukiuibut I think that calling racist stuff that is not racist, like the PewDiePie stuff, devalue the word. If you call everything racist people will start asking: does he mean racism racism or "racism"?
The hate against Indians really has this vitriol behind it. I met an Afghan guy at a party once, he said he was bullied a lot as a kid about being all types of races he wasn't. The worst bullying he received, by far, was when people thought he was Indian.
Why does NOBODY ever talk about this???? It’s crazy to me. I’m a white person born & raised in Canada, & the every day racism towards Indian & Middle Eastern people is so blatant, I don’t understand how people don’t talk about it. Like it’s SO normalized, it seems crazy to me that none of the big leftist content creators ever bring it up
As much as we try to counter the false and hateful narrative, it doesn't help when we have self loathing people within our very own community, who are a liability that lack self respect.
@@emzetkin1100 And I agree to a certain extent that it's wrong that they're made to feel that way and their problems aren't being heard to and addressed. But generalizing the innocent who haven't done wrong to them and assuming a population of 1.4 billion people as oppressors for the wrongdoings of a 100 people isn't solving the problem, it's being a part of it. Don't you think that would even justify what terrorists and those seeking revenge from the authority do?
even seeing just the title of the video i wanted to come in to lament this. ive lived an hour from vancouver my whole life and recently moved to an hour from toronto and from there to here the weird disgust with them bewilders me constantly. coming from my parents, my siblings, my peers back in school and now in work, from people im told i should hold as authority its nothing but unreasonable hatred. its practically became ritual with me and my best friend when eating something we bought even just from an establishment owned by indian people that his dad was going to show up and say something inflammatory. i go to work and the conversation on break is about them 'bringing sickness to our country'. i get into an uber with my mother and she uses some disgusting belittling accent as if it somehow makes it easier for this driver, well fluent in english to understand. i hate it here, at least on that front.

I work in IT and often work with Indian software engineers. Last year at a company I was working for, my tech lead made an incredibly racist joke about not wanting to hire Indian folks because the “office kitchen would always smell like curry.” I reported the “joke” to management, and I was fired less than 48 hours later. Yes me, not the man who made the joke. That’s how normalized it is. I can’t imagine it would have gone that way if I had reported an offensive joke about anything else.
As a Mexican, I can't help but feel for the Indian community because when you think about it, we are both stereotyped as dirty, stupid, ugly, making fun of people with thick accents, etc. It always rubbed me the wrong way how normalized it was, and it's not just white people, either. It causes so much ignorance, too. India is such a diverse country with a huge mixture of cultures, so when people just reduce Indian people to stereotypes, it's just insulting, honestly.
I didn't realize they stereotyped your community as well like ours, I thought you'll got along as you're literally the southern neighbor of the US and an NA country. It maybe true, but I've yet to see a single instance of it happening constantly each day, even your characters are shown as mafia overlords, who are perceived as evil, but cool. The most racist stuff I've observed is Mexico always shown in the yellow tint cameras in Hollywood movies.

Im an Egyptian and I remember this one dude at school called my packed lunch “nasty Indian food” as he walked by me, and then they randomly kept calling me Indian after that 💀 But I feel y’all on this, we Egyptians also face a strange rush of racism online. We cant even bring up that we are Egyptian without some rock head starting an ancient egyptian race debate or calling us “Arab invaders”. They don’t even know what Arab means, and we don’t consider ourselves Arabs whatsoever, the Western society has just grouped all Arabic speakers as “Arabs” Just like how they grouped South Asia. I feel like if the USA or Canada actually teach history and Geography correctly and NOT how they fantasise it to be (cough cough, Cleopatra documentary, cough) we could see less generalisations and overall a little less racism.
being punjabi descent, what grinds my mf gears is that how many people don’t know how after 9/11, how many older punjabi sikh were murdered because they were mistaken for terrorists. other thing that bothers me is how many indian stereotypes are pushed on other south asian ethnic groups and then people pull the “well all y’all look alike” card.
LITERALLY. Also let's not forget the BLATANT racism on tiktok (the one guy who goes "dingnindingning" whenever he has something to say AS A INDIAN and also encourages or makes vids with creators from other races to do the same) I never understood why such videos were so liked, those vids had MILLIONS of likes. Gross.

They weren’t murdered b/c they looked like “terrorists” they were murdered b/c racist white folks (actual terrorists) confused them for Muslims. But I agree even in “Asian” spaces issues faced by South Asians (as well as SEAs, and Middle Easterners) are not really talked about. There are still a lot of Americans who don’t think South Asian are Asians.
Earlier this week I mentioned to a person at my school about a sikh man my parents knew who was treated poorly after 9/11. They then went on to attempt to justify this hate with something along the lines of people deserving to be afraid. If one was so afraid they should know more about the situation and not to blame every brown man, and he is also American should he not be 2 too?
Hi, Saji! I'm from Pakistan and I am a stutterer. I'm deeply affected by your courage to put your stutter out there on the internet without any hesitancy. It is really inspiring.
honestly it's so weird because there's not many other youtubers which have a stutter and the amount of editing that usually goes on to remove the smallest of gaps this was both sort of jarring but also I think that shouldn't be something that bothers anyone nearly as much as it does? I'm autistic so I know how it feels to be judged on shit you literally can't control unless you actively repress part of yourself (which I did do; I love internalizing negative sentiments towards myself and my broader subgroup as a result of social norms!) and it's kinda exactly the same thing there? I guess what I meant to mean is more like, fuck norms and just challenge me because that's legitimately how people work? I'm very long-winded I hope this makes sense I think I'm dehydrated
the thing with racism against us Indians online is that no one ever wants to call out their favourite creators for being racist, because in india's there's a mindset of "oh we can take jokes!" and even if the jokes do hurt them, and they aren't really jokes they don't want to consider themselves "snow flakes" so they'd rather have the racist stereotypes continue and becoming a laughing stock rather than just call the creators out
This is so mf true, I used to be sooo against this from the beginning and later became what you just explained but after a while of realisation I understood it's not wrong that Im standing up for my people, it's those mf racists that are in the wrong

They’ll obviously make racist jokes to other races, but those races are also glorified in a sense, I could be biased but I don’t see that for Indians.

The casual racism towards Indians is insane. People are so nonchalant about it and get so confused or even offended when they're called out for it. It doesn't help that many people within our community are willing to let it go to appease to others (KSI saying the p slur) and act like just because they're okay doesn't mean that it's correct. Haven’t watched the video yet. But, in my personal experience, this isn’t limited to online spaces. I’m not Indian-I’m black-but my best friend growing up and to this day is an Indian man. He was born in Calcutta, adopted as an infant, and raised in the United States. As kids, he used to try and distance himself from his Indian identity, something he’s only relatively recently grown out of as we’ve matured into men. When I asked him why he felt the need to conduct himself in that manner, his answers almost always came down to the way people treated him once they found out. Racism against Indians is, for some reason, extremely casual-and shockingly normalized. Just a few months ago, I’d befriended a Japanese exchange student at my university as we quickly bonded over our shared passion for watching and playing American football. One day after training together, we sat down on the turf and started discussing the differences between American and Japanese culture. Somehow, we came to the topic of India-and this dude (who I’d only known for a couple of weeks at that point), became offended at my referring to them as “Asians”. He started a rant about how Indian people were, in fact, not “real Asians” and laid out for me all the reasons why he thought they were inferior to him. I was sitting there genuinely dumbfounded at how a person of color could be THAT vitriolic and hold such a demented level of racist beliefs. I excused myself, said goodbye, and never hit that dude up again. In my head I thought, if he’s that fired up about Indians, I don’t want to hear what he really has to say about black people. Removed him from my life as quickly as he’d come into it. That was the most extreme example I’d ever seen of racism toward Indians, but not the only one. I try and verbally defend them and call out prejudice whenever an instance like that arises-but am always made out to look like I’m strange for it, as if Indian people aren’t worth defending.

I had a substitute teacher in high school who was from India, he also had an accent. He was hired recently during that time. Most of the students, especially the popular ones, bullied him a lot. And I mean all sorts of different races, ethics groups, and nationalities bullied him. They said a lot of racist remarks, like, he was on the verge of tears. Some couple weeks afterwards, I heard from a teacher that he resigned, which explained why I didn’t see him anywhere in school. God, the fact that kids can bully adults for their identity, shows you how racist and fucked up our society still is. I hope he’s living a good life now, he should have never gone through that.

Another thing I find crazy tho is that whenever an attractive brown person goes viral or people mention how Indian people are attractive people always say that “not every Indian person looks like that” or “he or she is just a small percentage the average Indian doesn’t look like that.” It’s like they have to find an excuse to affirm to themselves that brown people just aren’t attractive. Idk if it’s just me but when any other attractive poc person goes viral for their looks their comment sections don’t look like that.
It's actually very true, Westerners have Stereotype of Indians bring the "ugliest" race, so whenever they see a decent looking one, or even an attractive one, they go in a state of shock and disbelief, hence why bringing all sorts of excuse and mental gymnastics. They always attribute the attractive looking Indians to be a small percentage, hinting that the majority of the population is Ugly. Blatant and Internalized Racism.

It's crazy to me how the population of India is a little over 1 billion yet every part of India is just stereotyped into one culture. In reality there are 28 states that make up India with there own unique cultures. Even as a whole, India is a beautiful country in multiple ways (especially the food and music). Same thing with Africa too, it's a huge place with extreme variety, but people act like it's a (usually very offensive) monoculture. I usually point out how we don't see that same behavior towards European folks where they get to be from their tiny individual countries that are usually way smaller than the states within India or the countries in Africa. I'm sorry you had to go through that. In my experience it was the total opposite. Back in India, I was an "OC" caste and people will find that out from my accent and make fun of me or single me out for bullying. When I was applying for colleges, they asked for my caste (I know why they have to do those things) but I remember being very hurt and alone because even my own citizens were being blatantly racist. @@BooksToAshesReally? Because I've been around Indian people in Canada all my life, and it tends to be only bad people who are racist towards them. Maybe you should stop hanging around bad people, tbf.
Finallyyyyyy i see someone talking about this!! I see these sorts of comments so often on Instagram and it’s so disturbing how “edgy” and “normal” it is to be racist towards Indians??
instagram is just the worst. it's almost a time capsule from 2012 where people can say the most vulgar, blatantly racist, bigoted bs and get away with it. it's out-of-touch almost, so many of them are close-minded and delusional to fester in so much hate, especially towards the lgbtq+ folk as well
Thanks for talking about PewDiePie. I've never liked him, but I remember during the t series era if you even questioned whether the song was racist you would be attacked and spat on and cancelled for daring to question whether PewDiePie wasn't an amazing person. He got away with so much stuff and you weren't allowed to criticise him for anything. I remember being a kid and I have Asperger's syndrome, I tried watching some of his videos and in one he made a joke about autism. I get it's just a joke, but as a newly diagnosed child who was also being bullied for being "weird" and "different", it hurt, and I felt ashamed for being hurt because I knew that if I commented something I would be called sensitive or probably the r word. I don't think it's cancel culture to criticise someone; I'm not calling for PewDiePie and other creators to be cancelled, but I do think they should take accountability, and not making racist and ableist jokes that do affect people isn't "woke". It's called being a decent person, and I think if someone doesn't understand that then they shouldn't be hailed as a good creator and have the platform that they do.
Yeah definitely. I liked Pewdiepie at the time, but that was only because the racist part sort of went over my head. I was for more anti corporate messaging, I didn’t want the biggest creator to be a corporation, to the point where the racism against indian people went over my head
I remember middle school classmates singing that song and then in the next breath praising Ben Shapiro. I feel like that's not a coincidence. side note, idk if you were aware but aspergers syndrome is an outdated and harmful term that comes from n*zis.
As an Indian, while I was dissapointed that some of pewdiepies fans turned a subscriber battle into a race issue. I believe that pewdiepie eventually owned up to the situation, as not only did he later go on to collab with an indian youtuber (a fun video where they tried snacks), but part of the reason why he ended the subscribe to pewdiepie meme was because people were turning it into a race issue.
notice how almost all the comments are long paragraphs, because half of the people in this comment section watching this video r brown and we all have so much to say but no one to say it to lmao
REAL!!! forbid if you say this the other ethnicities will call you “dramatic” but if it happens to THEM ☠️, awareness videos, every corner. A lot of Indian ppl got stabbed for being Indian and vice versa for other south Asians, not a SINGLE tiktok talking about, if it was another ethnicity though? Yup, awareness tiktoks and “copy link to spread awareness” every scroll.
@@markaragnos1796idk I think ppl who watch farzy relate to his skits because some of them are realistic to some Indians. Most of his skits are about him pretending to be an Indian dad being strict towards his normal Indian son
There's so many Indians that supported the Apu from Simpsons character, because they would think that acting like you don't care about one-dimensional stereotypes would make you cool and accepted. I feel like other races are allowed to be individuals more or less but for Indians we are so heavily held to our stereotypes and other Indians don't really do anything to push back against it, our easy going nature has be a negative in this regard and has been taken advantage of.
I’ve been bullied for years because of my background, with my ethnicity often being used as a slur. then came the day of an event celebrating international traditional clothing. for the 1st time, I felt excited to wear my desi clothes n finally put them to use, so I tried to sign up. but the event was already full, n there was no room for me to participate, I wondered where the heck all these brown ppl from in my school, which was mostly Arab students. to my surprise, the same girls who had tormented me over the years were taking part in it. seeing them on stage, dancing to "Bole Chudiyan" in desi clothes, happily lip syncing n dancing, while they had made me feel ashamed of my identity all these years, was when I felt true rage for the 1st time.
The casual racism online, even in "liberal" spaces like Reddit, is pretty baffling. What's worse is that when it's pointed out they try to convince that it's "just a joke". Nice job talking about this issue Saji
But I still think it is important to call out toxic cultural traits. People are able to criticise Christian Conservative Americans, but India has an incredibly conservative, deeply religious, xenophobic and nationalistic culture that may contribute to how misogynistic the men are, and ultimately appears as the butt end of many jokes. It's interesting how this video never once mentions Hindutva and its open and blatant admiration and inspiration from Italian Fascism, and how India's government and population areopenly supportive of them... I want to learn more about the Indian subcontinent and its related countries, but we have to be more nuanced at approaching why these jokes are directed towards this specific group of people. You want to unpack stereotypes and not just label everyone that points out misogyny as racist. I'm a minority myself, but I can call out black supremacist cults like the Nation of Islam despite how justified a response to racism it may at first appear to be.
Sorry to break it down to you. Why indians gets much hate : 1. Internalized self hatred 2. Embarrassed of their own traditions 3. Never standing up and accepting insults 4. Putting themselves below white people 5. Trying to copy white people 6. Hate for other countries 7. Ego. Yes it's weird ,they have hate for themselves but also full of themselves. 8. It is true their TV serieses and movies are weird but they never try to improve 9. The creeps and scammers are real, but they never try to better themselves or do something for the youth 10. Lack of self respect 11. Lack of respect for women 12. A lot of them are racists. Towards themselves, towards other countries 13. No strong community 14. Internal conflict
As a black person I feel very sorry for all Indians that have to go through so much racism. You guys are a beautiful group of people, never let anyone tell you otherwise. Much love 💕🙏🏿
Yet they are the most colorist group on earth, even establishing an entire caste system that directly correlated with skin tone. They'd treat your Black ass like dirt compared to a White person, I've seen it countless times in person. When will you learn to put your community first instead of caping for a group of people that don't even like you? Black folks have to start putting themselves as top priority instead of trying to make friends.
@@trevscott2309colorism exist , i agree , but caste system doesn't in large scale, the fact is that the ones who used to get harrassed ones are in majority
THIS. Like us hindus get harassed and constantly told to change our religion by muslims (they are minority so they get advantages) and we cannot talk anything back and defend ourselves because it will not be 'secularism'@@Skizzo___21
The people in this comment section are really interesting. People saying "we'll they brought it on themselves because [xyz] reason" don't understand the problem. If I harassed a random black person online over petty stereotypes I'd deservedly get major backlash for it, same for other groups. Indian culture obviously has problematic elements but its not exactly a convincing point to say its "deserved" when you look at how American culture has been for centuries. Don't go throwing stones in glass houses. "But Indians are racist towards other people", yeah ok, how does the random person on Instagram have anything to do with it. My father was called many names by white folk in his youth, and he's never harbored resentment over an entire racial group over it. Don't act like Indians are a monolith, I wouldn't think the same of you. A lot of us hate the caste system and sexism aswell.
"You know how many kinds of white people there are--Irish, Italian, Polish, Greek, German, French! The list unfortunately goes on forever" gotta be one of the most underrated lines in this video
White means Anglo-Saxon. Those groups are not white but are tolerated and the majority of them are on the bottom of the ws hierarchy. They rarely talk about the abuse of racism. But recently, Eastern Europeans and Southern Europeans are starting to talk about racism and the effects of white supremacy. It will be interesting to see if the Latin Europeans will ever join the discussion or if they are too deep in. I think once the Latin Europeans join in we all over the world will see a new context of racism and colorism: how it started in the Brits and how it spread.
@@Joyful_Smiles This would be so complicated. Like, there is so much to unpack and it would get LOOPY pretty quick, but just a little list of things that could be included: 1. The Spanish and Portuguese inventing racism to enslave converts to christianity 2. Italian authors inventing early forms of racial thinking or genetic determinism to discriminate other Italians [namely to put down the Sicilians] 3. The French and other nations implementing policies that suppress regional and minority languages to the point of near extinction [Occitan, etc] 4. The widespread acceptance of caricatures of Italian and other southern European people 5. The hypocrisy of distinguishing southern europeans from other europeans as the basis for discrimination while also absorbing their history to create a false narrative of a unified white european identity that white supremists later use to self mythologize 6. The way nationalism has shaped our understanding of these countries internationally is also super weird, like Neapolitan music and food for instance are stereotypically Italian around the world, but stereotypically Neapolitan within Italy, etc. It's a strange way to market culture and I guess gives us an insight into the commercialization and commodification of cultural expression in countries of relatively wealthy positions 7. In some nations you can literally see the creation of a national identity and read about people sort of cobbled together a more cohesive national identity out of loose, already existing ideas and reinforced it through the teaching of a standardized language. There's a lot more and it's all weird AF I haven't even mentioned like the Balkans, or how Rome has a massive history outside of Europe,
being south asian is not rlly trendy. as someone in school who is 50-50 nigerian and pakistan, ive realised that being considered black is deemed more “cool” than being asian and it rlly shows. for example, an egyptian boy in my class, who would frequently refer to me as ice spice when i wear my natural curly hair, told me once that he couldn’t even tell that i was mixed and that im lucky that i look black. while this boy who is 25-75 Nigerian to indian admitted to me that he wished he was more black. he would tell me that he hated no one could tell that he was part nigerian and would constantly talk about how much he loved fried chicken and watermelon to “seem black”. and my brother told me he identifies with being black because he doesn’t rlly identify with his asian side. when you’re mixed with black it seems like that’s all ppl see so you slowly start to identify with that side more and the reality that people have rlly bad misconceptions about “south Asians” doesn’t help..
I know this is your experience, but trust me, once you get out of highschool, no one thinks black people are 'cool,' they think their art and style is cool and wanna emulate them but are still racist as fuck Btw I'm speaking as an American who's only ever lived in the USA
@@trash_bender420as a black person i have a lot to say about the thinking black people is cool thing. i think there is a level of acceptance coming in for black people (especially in youth) that is now not becoming necessarily acceptance, but unintentional micro aggressions. someone now (im 18 just graduated so kinda speaking on what i seen online and in school) will put on a blaccent to (in a sense) be cool. things like aave have had a huge rise in popularity online which at this point in society is the only thing influencing kids now. this has made it in a way, ‘cool’ to be black. the use of aave in itself though is a micro aggression. same thing with the increase of people in the USA wearing box braids. for centuries box braids were considered dirty and unkept, now other races almost fight for a reason to wear box braids. its an interesting time especially in youth. black isn’t necessarily bad to most youth, but their perception of black people can be racist in itself. not to say that blatant racism does not exist anymore, because i’ve experienced it, but it is so much less common to see in my age group i don’t even experience it in person. i almost always strictly experience racism online. if it is in person, its typically unintentional and internalized. either way, its racism. and i somewhat agree with the notion that being black is SOMEWHAT a “cool thing” nowadays. i sound old but lmaoo you get the gist
Yeah I wanna add on, I’m Nigerian and the commonality I’m seeing amongst your mixed Nigerian friends/relatives is that despite being Nigerian they’re performing Black Americanness, which can be read as performing a harmful stereotype bc they’re not Americans they’re Africans. Although not as destructive as when white people perform blackness, it is still not helpful for the advancement of black folk when Africans play into exaggerated caricatures either. And I think that’s a function of how antiblack racism has always wanted the culture of Black Americans without Black Americans themselves. So you’re touching on something when you say blackness is “cool,” but I would be mindful of the fact that colorism and fetishizing mixed ppl also plays into it. There may be a perception of you being an acceptable black person because you look like Ice Spice, who is very pale, or because you’re not a Black American. But there’s no guarantee a dark skinned Black American woman would receive the same treatment.
You definetely gotta cover adin ross bro. as an indian some of his newer streams/content have just been blatantly racist. shame hes one of the bigger ones on the internet
I have literally the opposite problem, I’m Native American and there are literally ppl that when they ask “what are you?” And I slightly roll my eyes and say,”Native American,” they didn’t know what I meant and I was forced to say “Indian” to get my message across. But, that didn’t end it, they then asked “feather or dot?” And I said full blown rolling my eyes,” feather,‘begrudgingly. I couldn’t help but add,”btw there’s only one type of Indian, the ppl from India. Isn’t our fault Christopher Columbus didn’t know where his dumb *ss was and nobody has ever cared enough to stop straight up calling us the wrong thing even tho it’s well know, tho this day hardly anyone says anything. That’s because East Asia is the only clean, orderly, wealthy, developed, prosperous, civilized region in Asia. Even Pyongyang manages to be cleaner than New Delhi despite being under brutal sanctions. The rest of Asia is either a complete shithole (South Asia), mired in religious fanaticism and war (West Asia), sparsely populated and irrelevant (Central Asia), or just poor (Southeast Asia).
Receiving racism from East asians as a south asian was the funniest/saddest/ironic thing ever😅. The proximity to whiteness hierarchy is real no matter how many east asian youtubers/influencers tell you otherwise because the next breath they will celebrate aapi month by ONLY talking about east asia and MAYBE southeast asia. It sucks that even within this dialogue and with the rise and visibility of racism against east asians since covid, you would think we were more on the same page but racism toward SAs from EAs has gotten worse! Especially if you're darker skinned. Double for Arabs being racist af toward desis (yall know who you are and the way you and your families talk about us!). I have STORIES omg. That hurts more than yt ppl being racist. Ugh
It’s colourism, as well as featurism, for sure You got brown skin, hair ringlets, big nose & lips? Whoops, you’re not “Asian enough” somehow. Mind you, in the UK we don’t really encounter that sort of mindset as much (ime), since “Asian” here is synonymous with “South Asians”, although having said that, as American cultural influences become more prevalent, I’ve definitely seen *somewhat* of a shift towards East Asians being seen as the “stereotypical Asians”, so to speak
Oh and don’t even get me started on the Arab supremacists 💀 The way our people are treated in the Gulf countries is horrible. My mum told me how one of her uncles went to Dubai in the 70s as a construction worker, and after he became too ill to continue working he was sent back to Pakistan with no pay. I actually had no idea about people claiming that the rise in T-series subs had to be bots. Like, did people suddenly forget India is the second most populus country in the world?
the whole "pewdiepie vs tseries" war felt rly off to me bc they wanted they a swedish white person (who has documented issues with racism) to "defeat" an Indian channel. like it wasn't just that they liked pewdiepie it was also that they hated that the most subscribed channel was from india. that whole era was so corny.

Thats how it works. 3) Subbotted channels are reviewed and removed by youtube anyways. 4) 249 Million is not really a big number considering there are 1.4 Billion Indians, with a big overseas diaspora and foreign nationals interested in Indian culture
I work at a grocery store and whenever the customer service staff write up incidents of people stealing, they describe people with darker brown skin as "indian". I found the casual racism really damaging and unfair to assume anyone with darker skin are Indian. No one I pointed this out to seemed to care or think it was a problem:(
One thing I've noticed as an Indian is that a lot of us have a lot of internalized and self-directed racism. Being told constantly that we're a developing country lagging behind the likes of USA and European countries, and being colonized by the British to boot, many Indians I've met idolize the west and even agree with the bad image Indians have because 'there's some truth to it'. We don't want to appear like snowflakes, so we shrug off the insults and roll with it. Videos like these really bring to light the fact that we need to step up and not confuse criticism with racism. India definitely has overcrowded cities, problems with poverty and pollution, and many cities and rivers are still too unsanitary. These are actual problems, and should be replied to while discussing which places in India are working on these issues and have seen improvement, along with which places need more work. However statements with no substance like 'Indians are dirty/smelly/backward' along with other generalizations like what Indian men are like / how Indian people look that obviously can't apply to every single person in this country of more than a billion people needs to be shut down. There's nothing productive that comes out of having a thick skin for racist insults. Speak up about it, my fellow Indians! We shouldn't be ashamed to be the subject of these insults, the people who are too shallow to know that Indians and our culture isn't a macrocosm should be the ones feeling ashamed.
Its funny how everyone now claims racism against them😒 Indians and Pakistani are some of the most racist people ever!! They'd rather not be seen as the same with other people.. they'd rather try to align with white people than shun racism when its not against them...many of y'all are hypocrites😅
most of the racism against Indians are trolls, I have seen many Indians get offended and have some back and forth which eventually fuels the trolling. What concerns me more than caste in India is the online racism towards other states (Bihar,Bengal,SouthIndia etc.) as a joke which gives rise to this weird casual racism. There are more stereotypes among ourselves, how can we expect people from other countries to not do the same
With my indian friend and philipino friend in Mexico we criticize the enormous level of homlessness, drugadicts, mass shootings, student debt, legal slavery in prisons, NO healthcare and corporate food from the USA. It still leaves a bad taste in my mouth because he, as a whole grown man, has targeted jewish, black, and indian people, and probably more groups aswell. His fan base at the time when he started acting that way was also full of young teens.
Yea true, I was young at that time, and that kind of stuff was seen as funny in my social circle. When I grew older it suddenly clicked like "damn wasnt pewdiepie like in his lates 20 when he did all the racist stuff". I think its far less excuseable the older you are.
his content has been a direct pipeline into white supremacy for years, and he's been protected by his fellow creators and their support of him, that's how hes gotten away with it
I'd say Pewdiepie played THE BIGGEST ROLE in normalising racism against Indians, hands down. He took isolated cases of we!rdos on the internet and generalised it with the entire population of a literal subcontinent. And the craziest thing is that neither him nor his other white UA-camr friends ever faced any consequences for it, despite arming an entire generation with vile racism and prejudice against Indians.
The creepy Indian guy hitting on Western women and the Indian scammer stereotype weren't invented by PewDiePie and they aren't "isolated incidents" either (which is why they've become stereotypes).
@@RuthvenMurgatroyd yes. That happens. But you need to understand that India’s population is the second most in the world and is much closer to surpassing that of China. But still, I'm just saying that the stereotype exists for a reason, how society chooses to interpret that reason (the observable phenomenon) is sort of seperate but the stereotype exists and it was already in the public consciousness before PewDiePie. And like Indians, people also mock our culture and accents, but it's not as focused since people don't notice Iranians in general culture as much as Indians. I for one, was one of those people that assumed that South Asians were tolerant (and in some ways supportive) of the Status Quo. Maybe it was my ignorance. But it makes me happy to know that I was dead wrong.
I am indian and I will say one thing that indians are mentally colonized. We were humiliated for 1000 years before independance so its easy to develop internalized racism. Also, our education system was developed by macaulay and indian marxists and it was designed in such a way to glorify the invaders. I don't know of a single other race that does this except for maybe filipinos. I wouldn't say that my parents generation was "accepting of the status quo". Its just that they were so cucked, it destroyed their self esteem and self worth. So indians are okay with being second class citizens bcos they have no other choice. I have also seen this with ppl from certain african countries, especially in middle east, europe etc. Idk why ppl think asians in general are supportive of racism. Its more like we have no other choice and are too much of cucks to do anything about it.

I relate to so much of this as a dark-skinned black person. It’s like the darker you are, the more inherently dirty, violent, stupid, tribal, etc you are to people. It’s like they can’t see you in a present, neutral state. I relate soooo hard about seeing normal ass brown people on tv. The first time I saw a normal ass black woman who wasn’t, “too much,” a single mother, a criminal, a brown-nosing cop, a pimp’s hoę OR a domineering capitalist girl boss-I was blown away. She was a normal ass black girl with a normal ass life. Bonus points for giving us more personality traits than “ghetto.” It was amazing. I wish I could’ve seen it as a kid. Tbh I don’t really know how ghettos became synonymous with black people since I’m pretty sure it started off as a place where poor white people typically were. But I don’t think the word was even created with a specific race in mind so what’s up doc?🤨 Also, pew dew pie may or may not be a pos, I dunno the guy personally, but he’s definitely stoked flames time and time again. And I know for certain he knows what he’s doing. I’m sorry, but you don’t fumble the ball that many times over and over. Yet, for some reason it seems like an unpopular opinion to dislike him??? Why does he have such a squeaky clean reputation and why is he friends with people who, to my understanding, seem to be good people?? Why can white dudes skate on through, while stepping on every toe. Yet, dark people can just not bless someone when they sneeze and they have the full force of society on their backs. being indian myself, I think the double standards are very striking when it comes to people finding an excuse to be racist to our country and people. Every country has its beautiful and bad parts, but everyone specifically wants to target our country, why ? Their excuse is us being ' unhygenic ' but is that really the case ? The concept of bathing has been deeply rooted in our blood before one's concept of water even came to light for many. If we look back to the era of the Indus Civilization, you'd see the evidence of bathing and an extensive sewage system, you cannot say ' lack of education ' by seeing the mere condition of our rural areas. Yes, i agree that India is very underdeveleloped when it comes to society but there is a reasonable answer for that. Mind you, we were left in shreds after being under colonization for almosr 200 years. Our ancestors were traumatized, having to collectively process and heal from the pain of the partition as well as moving from the role of ' servants ' to citizens. The colonization did bring some good points like the importance of English and architectural designs. But our society had also fallen economically and many systems like the caste system, ' untochables ', exploiting dowry and other evil social practices still remained. It will obviously take time for us to develop our society when we are further starting to extend our connections in technology . You can criticize us but not berate us for merely existing. I firmly do not believe in arrogance because im a person who finds beauty in every country but I've been left to no choice but point out the irony of racism against indians being normalized when our country is the reason The Decimal System ( same people who get called ' illiterates ' ), shampoo ( same people who are criticized due to actions of some street vendors ), chess, yoga, astronomy, the digit zero and much more that are overlooked. I'm not saying this to show off, but I'm saying so to point out the hypocrisy of the ones who ramble abusive words on our blood one by one. We are citizens not just of our country, but of the world by existing in it. We all are of just the same value and were not above or lower than anyone. We are people.
Its also how a lot of indian people who go out to different countries and just talk shit about india in their lectures and seminar. You'd be suprised by the the sheer amount of indians who do this specifically like journalists and political party leaders and just so many imp part of our country
I’m black but I’m also a Canadian and racism against Indians is rising over here. My childhood best friend was Indian, her and her family were genuinely kind and sweet people, we have a lot of Indian immigrants in my town I see them all the time especially in stores an the white people here keep whining about the Indian immigrants (as if their immigrant grandparents didn’t colonize and murder the Ingenious people here smh 🤦🏾♀️)
Similar thing in South Africa. White people here will cry and whine all day long about Indians (moreso Zimbabweans nowadays actually) as if Indians and Zimbabweans aren’t literally carrying the economy on their backs
Lets give context. The white Canadians are whining because the recent influx of immigrants is crippling Canada’s housing market and standard of living. People are frustrated with that, and thats ok, because unchecked immigration is never a good idea. People using this as an excuse to be racist are not in the right at all, though, and it’s the government that’s at fault first and foremost.
This also reminds me of the blatant racism that goes on in the “black-Pill/incel” community. Especially towards Indians/South Asians, whom are often referred to as “curries”. Even by other self-loathing Indians.
Those communities are SO racist, probably to the surprise of no one. They just casually say some of the most disgusting stuff I've ever heard in my life.
I remember that one subReddit called R/ racetransition it was about a bunch of self hating Indians that would larp as other races due to their ugly stereotypes
Those scumbags DESPISE US. F THEM. F the black pill. I was unfortunate enough to come across them and the hate they spewed legit traumatized me. F them.
"curry" is not even the worst thing they call us. They call us "poos" because some of them automatically associate all of us with feces and poo. They say it's because of our brown skin, the smell and look of our food, and the stereotype that we poop in the streets. Takes me back to middle school when a kid called me "the prince of poop" and said when he looks at me, he just thinks of poop and farts. it was so humiliating.
The prejudice against brown and desi people isn't limited just to western countries, it’s also common among arabs especially in the GCC. I grew up with kids who would sing racially degrading songs about Indians/pakistanis on the bus. now I see the same superiority complex in the workforce, with blatant favoritism openly displayed, n employees from certain backgrounds being belittled n degraded without any effort to hide it.
I'll never forget when I said "as an Asian" or something like that and my WHITE friend said "I don't think Indians count as Asian" LIKE DAWG WHAT ARE WE THEN???? Edit: if you are coming here to say we don't count as Asian. India is in Asia and racially we are Asian. When an Indian fills out any legal document they would select Asian as their race. *ASIAN IS AN UMBRELLA TERM.* I'm sick of explaining this to ignorant people
Technically India is located in Asia, but India is not culturally part of the sinosphere (think East Asia, South East Asia) -- so technically your WHITE friend right is.
Asian is a taxonomic category. You don't have their features. While you are South Asian. You aren't this description. I believe the term Desi applies. @siyae1507 the caste system is a big reason why people don't like Indians. It's the 21st century, and you would never want to be treated like garbage in your own country by immigrants who don't co-exist with the local population. There's a reason why certain countries kicked the indian population out.
I feel in general people are racist towards dark skin people mostly towards black and south Asians. And I don’t think western world is that racist towards oriental Asians as they come with light skin. Unfortunately We South Asians are targetted by East Asians or south East Asians along with Caucasians. Be it our food, skin colour, our clothes and everything in between. I don’t know why are we hated so much. 😢
I completely agree with you! It has actually very less to do with the indian or black culture more to do with their skin color. And yes you're right. East Asians doesn't get much hate in western countries since they're all light skinned and their culture is well exposed to the west. Throughout history darker skin people were hated just for existing while lighter skin people were praised for their skin color. And these racist people try so hard to justify the racism against indians!!
People are actually scared of being racist towards blacks because they are afraid it will cause an outrage or get them fired. They target Indians because they don't stand up for themselves and let it slide so racism towards Indians seems like a normal thing now.

It's crazy to me how the population of India is a little over 1 billion yet every part of India is just stereotyped into one culture. In reality there are 28 states that make up India with there own unique cultures.
Even as a whole, India is a beautiful country in multiple ways (especially the food and music). Obviously it has its problems; the pollution, the insane population density, the corruption, the caste system, ect. But I'm from the US, so I've had to learn to appreciate the good that's in a country.
People would think it was ridiculous to say Germans, French, and Ukrainians are all the same but that's what we do for other parts of the world.

The Indian media exhibits this view on a regular basis, which is ironic given how the rest of the world sees Indians as a monolith, skin shade aside.
Yeah brother, I'm from India and its like its all different form "social class" to 'social class '. I was born and brought up in a very good society, where I was taught to be more clean, maintain my hygiene, good manners for others, good behaviour and obviously the knowledge for competing in this world. I tried my best to get the good things. JEE is an engineering exam which is considered to be the 2nd hardest exam in Asia as well as 3rd (maybe) in world. I ranked myself in 168th rank surpassing more than 2million competitors. I studied in IIT which is the best engineering college you can get in India. Then after completing my degree. I recently went to Vienna (Austria) in a vacation. They treated me like I was a tribal guy who knows nothing. I feel hurt. At the end of the day, I'm just a Human. I tried my best to be a good person and do all good things that could possibly be done by me. And because of Indias huge population even 20% of shite is like 160million people and their wrong doing becomes famous.. I get stereotyped as their category.
What else can I do, I can't even say I'm born in the worst country. Atleast India is way better than several dictator and middle east war countries. I'm not in a war. I'm in a democracy. Even though India is not the best place to be born; while considering countries like USA, England and Japan, but still it's not the worse.

When I moved to Denmark, I've experienced none of that. Even when I did experience racism, it was nothing compared to the severe ostracizing and bullying I experienced in India.
I'm just sad that we are ostracised wherever we go. I hope you feel better now.

He got away with so much stuff and you weren't allowed to criticise him for anything. I remember being a kid and I have Asperger's syndrome, I tried watching some of his videos and in one he made a joke about autism. It's called being a decent person, and I think if someone doesn't understand that then they shouldn't be hailed as a good creator and have the platform that they do.

Reddit and 4chan are the worst. But what else can you expect from these shit platforms.
Reddit has always been a racist cesspool and it is heavily biased towards the nerdy American white male libertarian perspective.
Reddit is racist cesspool and the self loathing indians make it hard to call out how normalized racism against indians is.

Like, there is so much to unpack and it would get LOOPY pretty quick, but just a little list of things that could be included:
1. The Spanish and Portuguese inventing racism to enslave converts to christianity
2. Italian authors inventing early forms of racial thinking or genetic determinism to discriminate other Italians [namely to put down the Sicilians]
3. The French and other nations implementing policies that suppress regional and minority languages to the point of near extinction [Occitan, etc]
4. The widespread acceptance of caricatures of Italian and other southern European people
5. The hypocrisy of distinguishing southern europeans from other europeans as the basis for discrimination while also absorbing their history to create a false narrative of a unified white european identity that white supremists later use to self mythologize
6. The way nationalism has shaped our understanding of these countries internationally is also super weird, like Neapolitan music and food for instance are stereotypically Italian around the world, but stereotypically Neapolitan within Italy, etc. It's a strange way to market culture and I guess gives us an insight into the commercialization and commodification of cultural expression in countries of relatively wealthy positions
7. In some nations you can literally see the creation of a national identity and read about people sort of cobbled together a more cohesive national identity out of loose, already existing ideas and reinforced it through the teaching of a standardized language.
There's a lot more and it's all weird AF

being south asian is not rlly trendy. as someone in school who is 50-50 nigerian and pakistan, ive realised that being considered black is deemed more “cool” than being asian and it rlly shows. for example, an egyptian boy in my class, who would frequently refer to me as ice spice when i wear my natural curly hair, told me once that he couldn’t even tell that i was mixed and that im lucky that i look black. while this boy who is 25-75 Nigerian to indian admitted to me that he wished he was more black. he would tell me that he hated no one could tell that he was part nigerian and would constantly talk about how much he loved fried chicken and watermelon to “seem black”. and my brother told me he identifies with being black because he doesn’t rlly identify with his asian side. when you’re mixed with black it seems like that’s all ppl see so you slowly start to identify with that side more and the reality that people have rlly bad misconceptions about “south Asians” doesn’t help..
sorry if my grammar isn’t too good 😂
definitely agree with trying to survive in school. like there’s so much shit ive led slide cus i felt like my voice was too quiet.
I know this is your experience, but trust me, once you get out of highschool, no one thinks black people are 'cool,' they think their art and style is cool and wanna emulate them but are still racist as fuck
Btw I'm speaking as an American who's only ever lived in the USA

Tbh I don’t really know how ghettos became synonymous with black people since I’m pretty sure it started off as a place where poor white people typically were. But I don’t think the word was even created with a specific race in mind so what’s up doc?🤨
Also, pew dew pie may or may not be a pos, I dunno the guy personally, but he’s definitely stoked flames time and time again. Like, anyone can be a pos, dark or light, but y’all can’t convince me it’s fair how we’re dealing out punishments. Someone is only “canceled” if you never hear from them again and they ain’t cashing anymore checks for the thing they were doing. So, a white guy being told “hey, cut that sh!t out” on Twitter, isn’t being canceled. Let’s be real.

growing up, I never told people I was half Indian because of how derogatorily people spoke about Indians online in the early 2000s. Like, experiencing my other POC friends sharing parody songs making fun of Indian people from early youtube was mortifying. It made me fear expressing my culture because it was so oddly popular to reduce Indians to smelly curry people,,,anyway thank u for making this video i’m so glad someone’s finally talking about it.

THE T-SERIES THING IS SO REAL. Now, I’m a huge Bollywood fan, but back then I was a lot more whitewashed and just disconnected. I remember getting angry at my parents for being subbed to T-Series, like? It was so stupid how much of a childish hive mind that whole thing was.

You need to listen English songs from pre-2015 era especially the early 2000s and 90s had tons of great songs. Nu Metal, Electronic Rock, Disco, Rave, Techno, Trance, Dubstep and a lot more was going on. Indian songs from T series are literally cringe inducing unoriginal remixes or remakes of original things or straight up stolen from other sources you may not recognise. Teri Meri is an example, it's actually from a Romanian Song first but Pritam stole the tunes and added random lyrics making it a hit. 90% of indian songs are trash. Only 2000s and 80,90s songs were good
being indian myself, I think the double standards are very striking when it comes to people finding an excuse to be racist to our country and people.

Interesting, so economic immigrants are bad but refugees are okay. 😅
Lets give context. The white Canadians are whining because the recent influx of immigrants is crippling Canada’s housing market and standard of living. People are frustrated with that, and thats ok, because unchecked immigration is never a good idea. People using this as an excuse to be racist are not in the right at all, though, and it’s the government that’s at fault first and foremost.
uh huh
@@phoebesekine4783 the thing about Indians in America is that they're very into their culture. They don't assimilate well compared to others
Them saying that isn't the frustrating part. It's when your own does it that infuriates.
He ain't your friend
If you're so proud of your skin why did you up the brightness and use a filter?
People are actually scared of being racist towards blacks because they are afraid it will cause an outrage or get them fired. They target Indians because they don't stand up for themselves and let it slide so racism towards Indians seems like a normal thing now.
