This was just the *best!* Quick, easy & *functional* . I’ve been SO tired of the ‘baby-hand’ sized pockets on *all* of women’s pants for years now. This was the simplest method I’ve found, *THANKS!*
@@angiegaskin3867 Asking isn't enough on its own. We need to stop buying pants with inadequate/missing pockets, and we need to stop buying them in large enough numbers that the corporate executives feel the pinch. If it hurts profits, they'll start offering what we want. The "in large enough numbers" part is the hard part. What percentage of clothes-buying women both care enough to change their buying habits, *and* can afford to forgo the cheaper no-pockets clothing? If you need a pair of pants right then and are on a tight budget... well, you're going to buy what's available at that price point.
You just changed my life for the better. You have no idea. I no longer have to try to find women's jeans with deeper pockets. I can just make my own! Thank you!!
OMG! I have been trying to figure out how to do this to all my pants and shorts forever. This is awesome... thanks so much for this instructional video. I really really appreciate it!
I extended he pockets on a couple of pair of jeans in the past, but I have about 4 more to do. I remembered you had this video so I watched it today and your way is soooo much easier. Thank you!
YES!!! I always wore 501's [designed for guys since they weren't made for women back then] and my current jeans have short pockets. This is great - thank you!
I’ve seen a few other videos on pocket extenders. Yours is, by far, the simplest, easiest and neatest method I’ve seen. Well done Jen. I’m off to make my Jean pockets functional. Thank you for your video.
You did an excellent job of showing your very helpful technique! I also recently added an extension to my pockets. Many will appreciate your demonstration!
this video made me smile, a lot! you have a great vibe. with your help i will soon be able to sit down without all of my worldly possessions exiting my pockets!! thank you.
Thank you for posting! I'm going to use this technique for my back pockets. :) Is there any reason not to sew the bottom edge before you attach the pocket extension?
This is a great tutorial! I tried following another one the second time I did this and it was so confusing because the tutor skipped steps and failed to film certain very difficult steps. She included French seams (that’s OK it’s nice to have that finishing touch and they are easy to do) but there were other tailoring aspects that were absolutely unnecessary, making for a beautiful finish for the parts that no one ever sees, including you unless you turn your jeans inside out. I used that tutorial halfway and then came back to yours, which I had already used once. But I’ve got to say that in the four pockets I have finished with your method, I have always had to finish off by hand around the side seam of the jeans. I just can’t maneuver my sewing machine close enough up to the seam. I will try again on another pair and see if I can navigate that seam better!
Yeah that part is really hard. Sometimes it just takes a lot of yanking and pulling and wriggling. But I'm really glad you found this helpful! Thanks for letting me know!
Why would anyone give this a thumbs down???? I would add, if you do not have a serger then sew an extra line 1/4 inch below first line across for added security.
That's a really good idea, Lori, because I am forever mending my husband's pockets. Adding that extra seam line would reinforce it really nicely. Thanks!
Thanks for making this video. Jeans used to have normal pockets...ah! the 60's...70's...80's.... Form follows function! must have secure place for bus pass on-the-go! phone....lipstick. OMG!
These disappeared pockets (never like that growing up), have been a TOTAL drag. Thanks for showing the easy solution. There must be some normal/smart designers out there who will put actual pockets back in women's clothing.
Thank You!! I've been on the quest for boy jeans that fit me because i wanted pockets but couldn't find a simple way to sew them into my pants. Men's jeans for weird on women
Thanks for your video! But one question...why not leave the fold on the bottom of the pocket? (makes more secure I think but maybe not?) Is there a reason not to do it this way?
No - you can absolutely do it that way if it works better. I've watched a lot of tutorials on how to do this and everyone does it differently. You have my vote for doing it an easier way!
Probably, but I don't like using glue because I don't think it holds forever - it would probably give up eventually in the wash. But you could probably do this by hand with just needle and thread.
deep pockets should be just standard on all trousers/jeans. Is pure sexism that women's trousers/jeans have these stupid shallow pockets. Much appreciate the video thank you.
love This Video. as A guy I like deep pockets too. a regular mens pocket is about 9 inches deep. I like 15 inches deep. especially on pants I use for traveling makes for anti pickpocket and anti accidental loss. is this a service you would provide by mail??
thank you so much! couldn't find any mens overalls so i had to settle for womens. the pockets are infuriating. i knew not to fret over it since i can sew :^)
HI, Thank you for your video, however it was very brief. I really wanted you to take us through how to repair the pocket, especially with the tear closest to the pocket opening. Please make another video, detailing it, by showing how you doing the repair, the measuring, the pattern making, cutting and sewing, so we understand better. Thanks.
Or zigzag the edges or pink them with pinking shears. Or just stitch across the edge again within the seam allowance. There are lots of ways to prevent the fraying.

Great! I don't know what clothing companies are thinking with the shallow pockets. Thank you for an easy to follow demonstration.
I know right? I'm sure it's a $ thing where they just want to save on fabric. But nice to know we've got their number and can fix it!
Hey Jen. Do you have a wat to cut the sleeves from a tee shirt and then finish it so it looks, well, finished?
We need to ask for deeper pockets
they want us to buy a bag for everything that doesn't fit in the pockets, so they get extra money.

Oh for the days when I could wear 501's! I still get them, actually. But they've got those danged short pockets . . .

Thank you. I have wanted deeper pockets for years. This seems pretty easy. I know those are famous last words for a beginner, but I think I can do it.
You *can* do it!
Yours is the simplest way from all the vids I've seen so far.👌👌👌
Wow, thanks!
This is my pet peeve. Jeans are more e expensive for women but no decent pockets! Phones are getting larger but pockets aren't. Thanks so much!!
Thank you. Just bought some cheap jeans without noticing the tiny pockets. I will be fixing this weekend!
Thanks, glad I can help!
Brilliant!!! I never understand why they insist on making women’s jean pockets sooooooo short. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
FYI, Duluth Trading makes great durable women’s jeans with deep pockets!
Thank You! Great Tip on fixing little pockets problems!
Thanks for the tip! Glad to be of help.

Awesome tutorial! I believe I will have to give this a try. Thanks so much for the tips
Thanks Amanda!
Also when i extend my pockets i allow seam allowance to attach to outer jean seam. This way they dont pull out
Thank you! My husband wanted deeper pockets in a pair of shorts and your tutorial was perfect!
I'm so happy it helps!
Thank you! I'm not going to be put up with shallow pockets anymore! I've been thinking of doing this for ages...Thanks for the video:-)

Notice that of the 7.8 billion people on earth only 3 people disliked this. Lol

Oh my gosh you’re the most adorable person ever! Thank you so much!!! 🤗
What a wonderful thing to say. Thank you!
Thank you!! New phones are getting too big for off-the-rack pockets...
Definitely.
you are a legend, thank you so much this has been incredibly helpful thank you

Thank you~ Can't wait to lengthen my pockets~

Definitely Levis.

Thanks for this! I do not have a sewing machine. Can this be accomplished with stitch fix or a similar fabric glue?
Probably, but I don't like using glue because I don't think it holds forever - it would probably give up eventually in the wash. But you could probably do this by hand with just needle and thread.
@@TodayinJensSewingRoom Thank you! I did end up sewing them by hand last night. I need to fix one spot today but hopefully my inept stitches hold!
This is awesome 👍👍
Glad you think so!

I agree, Wendy! Thanks!
You're so freaking cool :) I love your attitude

You bet!
Just wish I had a sewing machine. 🙄.
Really great video though !!!!! 👍
thanks I am wondering why you did take advantage of the fold?
that's funny I sew my pockets shut so they lay flat
I'm not sure which fold you mean - can you explain?
Awesome!
Thanks!
If not serging, sometimes a zig zag stitch works too
Or pinking shears. There are all kinds of ways to finish the seams.
Hashtag Stop Fake Pockets!
Yes!
I know my phone won't fit and phone sizes keep changing. Grrrr. Thank you!!
It's a quandry. Everything needs pockets these days!
It's going to fray though.
No, she surged the edges. Or use t-shirt material that doesn't.

im about to make the biggest pockets possible
Small pockets is a sin
Here is the question: why are manufacturers making such shallow pockets? Makes zero sense
Thank you so much ❤️
Any time!
