Seems wrongly understood. As someone pointed out, there is a chance of allotting the seat/birth to others if the reserved person didn't turn up on the reserved station. May be the TTE wait for some stations nearby to the reserved station if there is a chance of boarding there. They won't wait for a long period. Similarly, even if you choose to book the ticket from the available station and choose to put the Boarding point at the place where you want really to board, then the CRS displays the position from the boarding station and not from the other station where you chose to book because of the availability.
same qouta is available for destination stn. if i usually check from chennai to ernakulam it will show WL. but if i check chennai to kottayam i will get available, so i used to book till kottayam and get down at ernakulam town. for getting down no restrictions you can even get down at katpadi. but for boarding , that 2 hr window is only allowed. aradha palaya information, this example i used to do in 2010 . 2022 la vanthu edhu pudhusa kandu pudicha maari adhuvum thappa solli video podradhu not good

even the change of boarding station is only allowed till next 2 stations. chumma ernakulam book pannitu, CBE la llaam era mudiyathu. inbetween there is aluva, irinjalakuda, chalakudi, thrissur, palakkad, ottapalam. if u book at ernakulam max u are allowed to board from thrissur ( approx 2 hrs ). this is not correct info. please dont mislead.

Our ticket should be changed as no person arrived by TTE from Train boarding station above 1 hour. And this ticket should be given to another waiting list person. So we must inform TTE within 1 Or 2 hour from the boarding station. Otherwise invalid.
we should not forget to fill boarding point. otherwise tte have full right to tell you that ticket is invalid at actual boarding point.

But if you book from Thrissur quota to go to Karaikal, but want to board at CBE it is not possible . Coz, if boarding stn is Thrissur, then bsefor CBE the train has got two stops ie Shoranur jn and Palakkad jn. So as per latest rules if the customer doesnot board even two halt stations fron boarding point, the TTE will presume that passenger has not boarded the train at all and allot the seat/ berth to the next person on W/L or RAC
he didn't tell the full steps actually. in the next step, we have the option to choose boarding stations. there you can select CBE.
