Reggae is so tricky lol, when you first hear reggae guitar it seems simple but there's actually a lot of nuance to make it sound good and authentic. I made the exact same mistake you showed here, thank you!
Thank you for this brother. I've always had issues playing reggae as well as ska, and I feel this has really gotten deep enough down into the strum to give me better tools to work with. Thank you!
Well that’s my weekend sorted! Been searching for a video like this for ages, then what do you know, this pops up on my subscription feed!! Perfect, cheers Xyan
That's crazy that you mentioned about folk visting Jamaica just to be on Island chillin'. I told someone that I wanted to visit and meet the CULTURE! I wouldn't mind going to Kingston even to meet the elders. Wow, that you mentioned that!
Thought this tutorial was terrific and hope I can get my not so swift fingers to mimic this lovely style. I've got a problem with pain between my wrist & elbow doing a barre. In any case, thanks so much.
Thanks for this. Just starting to play with someone who uses lots of reggae rhythms...Not something I've ever explored...I've focused more on blues and rock (Santana, Floyd, Dire Straits). Great lesson to get me started at understanding the rhythm and what I can add in terms of riffs, lead, and fills. Thank you! Great fun.
This is hands down the best reggae rhythm guitar tutorial on YT. The focus on the dampening is great. Any recommendations for pedals to use for rhythm to help get that scratchy sound?
Man I’ve been playing for a couple years reggae is one of my favorite style and I’m having such a hard time with it I’m like following what he’s saying he’s explaining it great and I’m still awful 😂
You missed the point. He does indeed show how to play it, but learning how NOT to play it is also super important. Learn good design by learning bad design. I wish every teacher did this.

Indeed
I’ll triple that!! Lol

Best instruction I have seen on guitar muting. This technique doesn't just apply to reggae, but can be applied to all guitar styles. Well done!
Big up Xyan! This is the kind of tutorial we need on UA-cam, i wish everyone taught like you.

This video is helpful, but i got to keep practicing to get that sound.
Never give up!
Great tutorial! Are you using some pedal here?
thanks bros.
haha - I was playing all of the "don't do this" examples. thanks for setting me straight. I've got some practicing to do
you are welcome
one question what about in fingerstyle is it still based on the downstrum?
Do you have to use a pick and can it be done withour bar chords? 😢 really want to learn reggae but im pretty new to guitar
Nice
Who feels it knows it.
how can i find a simple reggae back track like this for a song i want to write please ☺🙏
love from Assam India India India India India India India
Hy. Im a beginner , could you plz recommend me some electric guitars ?
He is playing a fender squire in this video, great beginner guitar
Is the squier affinity stratocaster fmt hss good ? @@toes4lyfe50
@@toes4lyfe50 thank you
🙏
is there reggae style without pick or is it always with a pick?
You could do fingerstyle if you grow out your nails. Roots guitar is quacky, hard to do that with the meat of your fingertips.
👍🏻👍🏻
Damn i got issues with leaving space...im a metal kid at heart, but i love it all" besides elevator music"
are you using some kind of pedal?
Pedals?
where does that drum fall in say, over 4 bars. I can't get a fix on how to count where it is
Where are your fingers placed? Can’t tell.
Reggae is very difficult
It is if you count. It isn’t if you feel.
@@deviationblue I friends can't play it to save they life but I push them
I appreciate reggae but im playing tropical punk and i call it that cause i dont like rules.
nice thank u
Your welcome
I'm struggling here
test
So why don't you show how to play it instead showing how not to?
You missed the point. He does indeed show how to play it, but learning how NOT to play it is also super important. Learn good design by learning bad design.
I wish every teacher did this.
Am I upsetting anyone by doing this on a classical guitar? 😶
