My cousin went into congestive heart failure at age 19 six years ago. You never would’ve known how sick he was because he was away at school and pulling straight A’s. It ended up being an issue with his valves and he had two valves replaced at the Cleveland clinic. He’s been doing great ever since and has lived a healthier life because of it. He lost a lot of weight and started eating healthier.
My daughter at age 32 was diagnosed w CHF. Ejection Fraction was 18%.It has been 5 yrs. her EF is now 34%. She is on meds. She feels awful tired after she takes her meds. She leads a very active life on their farm. She has 2 young boys. Thank you for these videos.
I was diagnosed with CHF in late 2017. Had a cath and showed as 25% E.F.. I had to wear a defibrillator vest for 3 months and started on Carvedilol, Losartan Potassium and Spironolactone and the last 3 Echocardiograms have been normal results. Before I took 1 hour inside the shower and couldn't do anything without getting seriously out of breath. Now I can shower normally grocery shop while walking instead of riding..so much has changed but you've still given me info here I didn't know about. God Bless you Doctors and thank you from the U.S..❤
I just found out that my loss of strength in my legs, going up and down stairs, and getting up from the floor was not because I wasn’t exercising enough. It was because I have CHF with an ejection fraction of between 20-25%. I was in shock, and scared! I just turned 81 and don’t want to be given a death sentence. Your discussion gives me hope, and I learned that I am taking a beta blocker as well as the latest new drug meant for diabetics so my doctor is on top of the latest in heart care. You present the information so well, and I’m more hopeful now about my heart health.❤️😊
Again an awesome, informative video. My dad has congestive heart failure. I’m visiting him actually right now in the Netherlands. He received a pacemaker four years ago. He is on several medications. Holding his own by the looks of it. So nice to better understand what’s going on with him. He just turned 87, I hope he will be able to add a few more years to that!
I am 3/4 done nursing school and was writing a research paper on CHF. I googled Dr. Mike and I didn't realize you guys were just down the road from KW in the GTA. I really appreciated the Dr. Mikes explanation. Also I had my first OR experience where I was an observer and not the one laying on the table under anesthesia. I got to watch a TKA and the mechanical side of surgery especially ortho, made me want to take the OR course and maybe someday be a scrub nurse in the OR, and have to memorize the 200 instruments that were in front of me for your specialty. I loved every minute of it!
“ You are in charge of your own health” (at the end of the video,) I was having some mild angina or some chest pains(,I,m not sure the cause was ever conclusive,)the internal DR sent me to the specialist,I told him I drank some beer everyday,he brushed me off with a look of distain and ended the visit,I saw him six weeks later to review some tests and told DR I had not drank since I had see him,he shook my hand and said : we will never meet again if you look after your self👍👍
Finally a video that describes this disease so someone without a medical degree can understand it. I loved this video. My mother has type 2 heart failure. They tell her there is nothing they can do for her. I have researched to try to find out what to expect through this journey through its entirety but haven’t been able to find anything. Thank you!! I'm so glad you did this video! My dad went into the hospital for a kidney issue and found out his heart doesn't pump out all of the blood it takes in like its supposed to. It just sort of pools in the lower chambers. He is often short of breath and fatigued and his legs swelled substantially. If its not one thing its something else sometimes. I once went to Emergency for facial edema ( or as I called it 'Jay Leno chin') and they found a meningioma tucked in behind my eye! Anyway, thank you SO much for presenting all this information so clearly. I'm a little less freaked out now.
Thanks Gentlemen this was reassuring for me, waiting for a cardioversion due to AF. It was a shock to suddenly be on all this medication after not taking regular medication before. and the increases in dosage can be scary. the symptoms were exactly what sent me to the ER, shortness of breath, fatigue and edema. medication is working and change of lifestyle including job too , relying more positive now. It’s a Scary thing togo through especially seeing or hearing those words Heart Failure. Thanks again
Ya we love him, he's so cool, cute and down to earth 🌎! He can park his little plastic shoes covers under my bed anytime, I'll even make sure the cat 🐱 makes room for him!
I went to the doctors for weight gain with no appetite and swollen legs, ankles, and feet. All I got was a prescription for furosemide. Now my feet are darkened. I went to see my endocrinologist for a check up. she noticed during my feet examination and told me I needed to see a cardiologist right away. I go back to my doctor bc I need a referral, and she then says. Your bloodwork came back normal, but you may have chf with possibly less than 5 yrs. She said i didn't think you needed to see a cardiologist bc you're still young, but an echocardiogram will confirm if you have chf, and you may. She referred me to a cardiologist. We have a meet and greet with no testing in 2 wks. To sit and know I'm dying is a sadness that feels unbearable. I'm in my 40s. I don't want to die. This possibly happened from taking ibuprofen for 4 years for back pain. I thought it was better than narcotics, and I was wrong. Nobody told my ibuprofen could kill me.
Hi survivor. Sorry to hear this. There are many causes of swelling. At a young age it would be more likely be related to your kidneys r wait and see what the cardiologist says. And then do everything you can to reverse it. Hang in there and best of luck
I saw my GP on Tuesday for shortness of breath. I do have mild Emphysema and he said do have restrictions in my lungs. BP was good, heart sounded good, and lungs sounded clear. He did check my neck. Yesterday I had chest X-rays. I’ll be getting ECG and heart tracing at LifeLabs along with blood test to show shortness of breath.
Excellent as always! Much love from Josée on the Island of Montreal (Aka good at avoiding downtown) My neighbour's daughter had a valve stretched yrs back, I'm glad her future's assured!
Thanks for all the information. The heart is so amazing. Love hearing anything you to pass along information about issues with it and what is done for diagnosis and treatment.
@@TalkingWithDocs Seems I gained about 45 lbs of water weight. I don’t really understand the results of all the tests but apparently one side doesn’t fill enough or fast enough. I just developed a pain inside just to the right of my scar after not having any pain at all since and including my surgery. It almost feels like something happened to the wire used to hold the bone together. It feels like a muscle strain. Anyway, communication with my doctor and he says pains like this come and go.
A week before my heart attack, I went to the doctor with shortness of breath and fatigue. The doctor thought I had pneumonia. I didn’t. Not all doctors are qualified.
I would love to see a video about heart murmurs. I have recently been told I have one but my cardiologist told me many people have one and never know it. I just think it would be interesting to learn more about it.
Thank you so much doctors for this informative video. I am having issues with my heart at this time and your video was most helpful and full of information for me.
You guys are awesome!!! Oh how I wish one of you was my doctor!!!!.,I’m #2! It stinks! No heart attack, but admitted to ER in respiratory failure. Simply terrified. I swell in the belly. That’s why I had NO CLUE. MY CARDIOLOGIST IS KIND But more concerned with Afib, which was corrected with ablation. Has no concern about Heart Failure and in 8 months I’m going downhill. DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO. SO WEAK, I can’t GET TO MAIL BOX. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
We suspect your cardiologist does care about your heart failure but it is often related to the a fib. Just voice your concerns and they will likely be addressed. Hang in there Sushi!
@@TalkingWithDocs how terribly kind of you to respond. I’m very touched! Tomorrow I see my Pulmonologist due to the breathing problems, and I’ll see if he thinks I need to see cardiologist before December. October 10th, I will get the Watchmen installed. Thank you again for your good wishes 💖
@@TalkingWithDocsit is good to watch these videos more than once, besides being so interesting you hear things you missed before! Great videos as always Docs.
I have HOCM diagnosed about 29 months ago and had Septal ablation 14 weeks ago. The surgery helped enormously with the near constant pain and breathlessness but fatigue and pain on exercise is still an issue. At 55 my working days appear to be over. I stopped drinking alcohol completely and that has helped and I'm losing weight slowly with a low fat diet! My medications are disopyramide 200mg twice daily, bisoprolol fumarate 10mg daily, atorvastatin 80mg daily and aspirin 100mg daily. I have good days and bad days but all in all I'm doing ok considering!
Diagnosed with CHF 3 months ago and am on 3 of the drugs that you mentioned. My EF went from about 17% to 28% . Am feeling much better and scheduled for evaluation on a defibrillator/pacemaker next month. Entresto ! 🤠
I want to brag about the wonderful medical treatment I get in Virginia! Pacemaker, mitral valve clip, and watchman. Also some meds. All this has added years to my life. I'm 77.
Another very informative video - you explain things so clearly in a way that is easy to understand. Thank you! Your patients are lucky to have you. Future topic suggestion: Enlarged heart diagnosis. What causes it? What is the long term prognosis? How is is treated? Thanks for considering.
Thanks for videos! I've watched many. Nice, concise with not a lot of fluff. I was diagnosed with CHF in December of 2019 when I was 59. Healthy, active with no risk factors or family history. My EF was 15%. 18 months later my EF was 55%. My goal is 60%. But no improvement in the last 6 months. Was hoping that if I hit that number I wouldn't have to keep taking the meds, but my cardiologist said I would be on them for the rest of my life.
They all tell you that because they don’t want to loose you as patient 😮 try reading and natural things but don’t forget you have too consult your primary doctor first and they will tell you that you need them and your meds for life ❤
Wonderful explanation. When my husband was diagnosed I was so terrified and I didn’t get any answers or explanations. Thank you so much for your informative video.
I will have to get in as i have all these symptoms which have come on in the last 3 months. I have had high bp for years and been on Benazapril, however, it feels like it makes it worse now. Tighter chest and shorter breath.
The term Heart Failure is frightening. When you first hear this as a patient is sounds final, urgent and dire. How about just Cardiac Congestion Syndrome or just Heart Congestion. I am a terminal Stage 4 cancer patient that recently suffered fast onset CHF where over a few days went from mild/medium SOB to waking up feeling I was drowning. PE ruled out andCHF confirmed with testing. Diuretic gave almost immediate relief. I was very alarmed by being told I had heart failure on top of everything else. Heart Congestion would have been easier to swallow.
Thank you for the good info. I have ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator) working very well, gives sense of security and support. Amazing technology.
I so look forward to your Video’s; the information and knowledge is so powerful. Such great Doctors, Gent’s, guest Doc’s as well as some chuckles. Thank you so much.

Thank you so much! Sitting here with afib, changing, copd, lifelong htn no one can fix. I'm on O2, but still get short of breath sometimes. I turn the a/c on a lot! Angina with intrinsic anxiety really sucks. Some pain meds would be nice, but they're virtually illegal. Not happy about dying alone in pain.
Wow, what a great review...the term "Heart Failure" I think is unfortunate as it connotes almost an immediate death sentence and based on the info the future seems a brighter for patients in this population.
Thanks so much. I was diagnosed in January 2016. Recently had a scad heart attack and also possible FMD. Can you please make a video on these topics? Thank you for all your work.
I just got home from the hospital. I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. I am wearing a contraption called a Life Vest. It is a defibulator. I am scared! I'm 43 yrs old. I have no insurance or money and can't afford the medicines I was prescribed. I am so scared! I don't want to die!
Hello from Australia. I love these sessions, thank you very much. By looking at these I was motivated to ask my Doctor about heart health and as a result underwent a number of tests including a "calcium score". I am 65 years of age and had one of these tests at 45 years of age which was 0. The more recent one was reported to be 21. Blood pressure is consistent at 120 / 75 so they say I am all good. Are these calcium scores a reliable indicator of heart health. Many thanks for taking the time to comment.
Hi Rob. So we don’t use them much in Canada for a bunch of reasons but they can be used as a piece of the puzzle in addition to other tests like bloodwork, EKG, and stress tests etc. glad you are doing well
Thank you so much for the information. I was recently in heart failure due to a reaction to my chemotherapy. Nobody explained what was going on and the oncologist was so determined that it wasn't the fault of the Taxol that caused it. Now I understand how serious this was.
Thank you for all your knowledge 😊 i just got diagnosed with CHF last year i am doing great on meds. I had no symptoms at all. But i have chronic pain from a life changing car accident. They think mine was from covid or a med for nerve pain. I always felt like i had anxiety real bad. I kept complaining. And i kept getting different meds. But it was my heart. Im glad my doctor never gave up. The final thing that was the game changer was i lost weight quickly. I was sick when u ate. My arms would swell. Not my legs. Its all been a blur ! Im on spironlactone, entresto, carvedilol 😊
Must be an outlier as i have no symptoms of HF - not breathless & no swelling I in advertantly discovered it when my Apple Watch alerted me to atrial fibrillation 6 mths ago & was shocked to learn my EF was 25% but Entresto & other meds discussed here have improved it to 45%. HF has not hampered my life still lifting heavy weights 4x a week, walking most days- feel lucky & unlucky at the same time - my Afib is permanent
Excellent discussion regarding CHF. A discussion about different arrhythmias might be useful for the audience. Many have heard of AFib but discussion of VFib, VTach, PVCs, SVT, etc would be helpful.

Another awesome video, thanks for having Dr.H on again. We love him! You guys are working so hard to deliver the best videos for us, thank you!
Yes Mel doing our best. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Always learn alot from the Docs!

Best of luck Cathy. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Excellent as always! Much love from Josée on the Island of Montreal (Aka good at avoiding downtown) My neighbour's daughter had a valve stretched yrs back, I'm glad her future's assured!
Hi Josee. All the best to you in Montreal!! Thanks for watching and subscribing
Thanks for all the information. The heart is so amazing. Love hearing anything you to pass along information about issues with it and what is done for diagnosis and treatment.
Very welcome Gregg. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Such helpful advice.
Glad you like it Helen. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Boy, this was timely for me. I’m in the middle of this after triple bypass 3 years ago.
Wow Tony. Hope you are ok. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Love the cardiologist input. He explains things so clearly.
He sure does Barbara. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Thank you for the encouraging report.
Very welcome riverbender. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Thanks so much for this video!
Another great video! Thanks for having Dr. H on, I find it very interesting talking about heart health! You guys are the best!😊
Thanks Alida. Thanks for watching and subscribing
A week before my heart attack, I went to the doctor with shortness of breath and fatigue. The doctor thought I had pneumonia. I didn’t. Not all doctors are qualified.
Wow that’s scary Tim. Hope you are ok now. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Exactly what happened to me -pneumonia was the diagnosis.
I would love to see a video about heart murmurs. I have recently been told I have one but my cardiologist told me many people have one and never know it. I just think it would be interesting to learn more about it.
Me too!
We have added it to the list K. Thanks for watching and subscribing
@@TalkingWithDocs and I'd like to know more about RBBB which I was diagnosed with ,but never had any follow up.
Wonderful and timely information 🤩👏👏👏❣️

Tomorrow I see my
Pulmonologist due to the breathing problems, and I’ll see if he thinks I need to see cardiologist before December.
October 10th, I will get the Watchmen installed.
Thank you again for your good wishes 💖
That was a great informative video Docs! A big thanks to all three of you.
Bless you for all your great information!
Glad you liked it Darlene. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Best of luck to you. Thanks for watching and subscribing
What was your EF % from your ecógrafo?
Excellent Presentation - Thankyou
Diagnosed with CHF 3 months ago and am on 3 of the drugs that you mentioned. My EF went from about 17% to 28% . Am feeling much better and scheduled for evaluation on a defibrillator/pacemaker next month. Entresto ! 🤠
Glad to hear it
Once again, great info, thanx.
Glad you liked it David. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Very important informative video
Thanks for watching and subscribing Carleen.
I want to brag about the wonderful medical treatment I get in Virginia! Pacemaker, mitral valve clip, and watchman. Also some meds. All this has added years to my life. I'm 77.
Nice of you to acknowledge Loretta! Thanks for watching and subscribing
Thanks again for another wonderful video, as always very informative
Very welcome Robert
Another very informative video - you explain things so clearly in a way that is easy to understand. Thank you! Your patients are lucky to have you.
Future topic suggestion: Enlarged heart diagnosis. What causes it? What is the long term prognosis? How is is treated? Thanks for considering.
Will add it to the list Libbyann. Thanks for watching and subscribing
@@TalkingWithDocs Thank you!
Yes Don but you should be proud of your improvement. All the best going forward. Thanks for watching and subscribing
They all tell you that because they don’t want to loose you as patient 😮 try reading and natural things but don’t forget you have too consult your primary doctor first and they will tell you that you need them and your meds for life ❤
I was looking forward to a new upload. Lots of great content.
Glad you liked it Michael. Thanks for watching and subscribing

Definitely see the doctor Angela. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Yes rhe nomenclature can be problematic. Glad you are ok. Best of luck with your cancer J. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Thank you for the good info. I have ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator) working very well, gives sense of security and support.
Amazing technology.
For sure A. Thanks for watching and subscribing

Ok Lulu’s mom. Great suggestion. We will add it to the list. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Great job guys, as always. You are always so upbeat and hopeful, and genuine in your interest and continuing studies on all health matters. I always feel better after watching one of your videos. Especially this one. My family history revolves around shorter life spans due to heart failure, so its a more likely possibility for me. Thanks s much for your information and good cheer. Mona ♥️
You are very welcome Mona. Glad we could help in any small way.
Thanks for this video guys.

Great informative video docs as always . Since Found y'all I don't miss one . I Use this videos to ask my doc's questions . Thanks you wishing you all a great weekend !!!!!!!
Ha hope your doc doesn’t mind Kubota! Thanks for watching and subscribing and have a great weekend
It can be super complicated Tania.
Thank you so much , this video was very helpful for me.
So very welcome Carolyn. All the best. Thanks for watching and subscribing
I am a 59 year old woman who has diabetes type two and have a defibrillator/pacemaker. I wish I could warn people to take diabetes seriously.
Agreed Cheryl. It is very serious. All the best. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Thank you so much for this video! I can relate to a lot of what you are mentioning here.
Very welcome Al. Thanks for watching and subscribing
If you don't have Health Insurance, the 3rd on the list @ 9:09 (Sacubitril Valsartan) Entresto is only $700 per month.
Yes we are aware that medications are expensive. We thankfully live in Canada with socialized health care. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Wow, what a great review...the term "Heart Failure" I think is unfortunate as it connotes almost an immediate death sentence and based on the info the future seems a brighter for patients in this population.
It is getting better Dino. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Thanks so much. I was diagnosed in January 2016. Recently had a scad heart attack and also possible FMD. Can you please make a video on these topics? Thank you for all your work.
We will add it to the list Connie
I just got home from the hospital. I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. I am wearing a contraption called a Life Vest. It is a defibulator. I am scared! I'm 43 yrs old. I have no insurance or money and can't afford the medicines I was prescribed. I am so scared! I don't want to die!
Hi Eric. We are so sorry to hear this. Wishing you the best.
For sure Debbie. Best of luck with Chemo. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Another great video! The 3 Musketeers
Glad you liked it Chad! Thanks for watching and subscribing
Wow that’s awesome. Glad you are ok
Excellent discussion regarding CHF. A discussion about different arrhythmias might be useful for the audience. Many have heard of AFib but discussion of VFib, VTach, PVCs, SVT, etc would be helpful.
Good call Dominic. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Thank have a Dad with CHF will pass along this info to the rest of the family. Can you all do something on PVC's Thank you
Hi Nora. We can add it to the list for sure. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Thank you. My Mom is in heart failure 😪. She’s 85. Also my Grandson was born with Lymphatic Malformation with micro cysts affecting his left side of face. Many complications. His Ent dr proclaims he will be an excellent candidate for a face transplant. Scared us both. Could you do a show about LM or face transplant? He’s 14 and trying to plan ahead. We are raising him as Mom and Dad incompetent.
Hi Pat. Sorry to hear this. We do not have anyone in our area that would perform such a procedure and likely is limited to a few centres. Best of luck to you. Thanks for watching and subscribing
