Yes we have ginger beer here, the local brand is Bundaberg. There's also Bundaberg alcoholic ginger beer, and the famous Bundaberg Rum. Go easy on the rum, there's underproof and overproof variations. My favourite was the Red, and to order it in a pub just say "a nip of Bundy Red, thanks". Or if you prefer a mixed drink, Bundy and Coke is popular. Don't get me started on Australian beer, there's plenty of people who'll tell you which beer to drink. ♥

I love your bird reactions :) That's a "brush turkey" or also often called "bush turkey" they were eaten during the great depression & almost wiped out as a result, but up north some survived & they have been steadily making their way south, reclaiming areas they used to inhabit. They're honestly a pretty stupid bird, quite the opposite of the parrots like the cockatoos. Bin chickens (Ibis) from your last video, are also not seen as being the brightest, they are an interesting bird though :) Cockatoos by comparison though have taught each other to open the wheelie bins to access the best of the rubbish.
Once you're settled in, I think you'd love a trip to "the Australian reptile park" in Gosford. The zoos in Sydney do tourist focused stuff, the reptile park caters more to Aussies, so not the same rules you get at zoos, rather the animals have "rest areas" that humans aren't allowed in (as in a single rope loosely dangling on some posts with "rest area no humans beyond this point" written on it), but otherwise they freely mingle with the humans & you can get really hands on with them. Some exceptions of course, animals like snakes aren't running around loose in areas where humans are, instead you'll encounter them drapped around staff who are monitoring the park & also educating guests & allowing them to touch & interact with the snakes & other animals they are carrying around. You'll find the brush turkey's much larger relative, the emu wandering around in the same area you are in there & if you offer them food, they will come up to you to take it - and they're as tall as humans (and the only enemy to ever win a war against the Australian army). The more tourist based zoos will always have the emus & humans separated by fences
I think the reptile park started out with reptiles, but now it has all the standard Aussie animals, not just reptiles, including ones like the Tasmanian Devil, being part of the captive breeding program for them, also koalas, kangaroos, possums etc etc etc. Reptile park is also the source of all anti-venom for Aussie snake bites & much of the world's snake bit antivenom. They keep a wide range of snakes & spiders for milking, then send the venom to the CSL facility in Melbourne to be processed into anti-venom.
Anyway, welcome to Australia, hope you enjoy it, looking good so far :)
& btw, that is a ferris wheel on the north side of the Harbour Bridge, that's "luna park" & is free to wander around, only paying for individual rides

couple of things.. here in australia sugar cane is used as a sweetener, unlike murica, which uses predominantly corn syrup. This will give your unsolicited taste buds a very different taste, like you will find out coke has a different taste to the one from the usa. yes, we do have ginger ale, not that i have ever seen it in maccas in recent times. ( on that note, id suggest trying a bundaberg ginger beer, non alcoholic ) available just about every where. Embrace the culture shock as some things will seem strange to your ears, i hope you enjoy it. gleno.

Welcome to Sydney. I’ve been in Austin for 2 months through July/August so coming back to Sydney, you’re right it’s cold!
Ginger ale is ginger beer here. It’s usually not alcoholic and Bundaberg is the best one in my opinion.
You’ll come across a lot if metric here of course.
For temperature, there is one tip I have for Americans.
With celcius the first number is “what”, the second is “how much”.
So using the 4 words for temperature: cold, cool, warm, hot - that’s the what.
Start with 0. Because 0 is freezing in Celsius, 100 is boiling.
    First digits:
    0 = cold, 1 = cool, 2 = warm, 3 = hot
    Second digit is range 0-9
So 5C (05) is cold - about 50% through cold
19C is very cool, not quite warm yet
20C is the jacket line… less than this and you need something extra on.
25C is halfway through warm (it’s scientific room temp)
39C is the top of hot
Anything below zero is very cold
Anything above 40 is very hot
Sydney max temperature this weekend is 31C so the start of hot

One of the simplest Celsius to Fahrenheit conversions is to double the number and add 30, this is accurate to within two or three degrees; 20C by this method is close to 70F - it's actually 68F but close enough.

McDonald’s Australia don’t serve ginger ale. Their Sprite has recently changed to a sugar free only version, horrible.
The fried cheese options are a recent addition and I think only a limited time promotion.
Schweppes Ginger Ale is IMO the best. You’ll find it in the supermarket (Coles, Woolworths or IGA).
Canada Dry is available in some convenience stores.
Bundaberg Ginger Beer (it’s non-alcoholic) is also nice.

I'm guessing you didn't like the Sprite because it has less sugar. Aussies don't like to fast track into Type 2 Diabetes.
I don't eat in McDonalds but I'd say Ginger Ale is not a standard drink with them.
You can buy Ginger Ale everywhere. Try the Bundaberg Ginger Ale, it's one of the best.

iced coffee is milk and espresso (usually, some places will use a coffee flavoured syrup instead of actual coffee) with icecream and usually whipped cream on top. An Iced latte is cold milk and espresso with ice cubes. An iced long black is Iced black coffee (but still made with espresso and water, not percolated coffee like you might find in the US)

Welcome to Sydney. I hope you enjoy your stay here.
If by ginger ale you mean like Canada Dry Ginger Ale, then the people suggesting Schweppes Ginger Ale are correct. Ginger Ale is not Ginger Beer. But I agree with everyone suggesting that you try Ginger Beer. Its more commonly drunk here a refreshing drink. You can get Canada Dry Ginger Ale here, but its imported, so expensive. Schweppes Ginger Ale is cheap and at supermarkets. There are other brands of ginger ale, such as Cascade Dry Ginger Ale. You can also get this at some supermarkets and bottle shops. I don't know how it compares to what you're used to.
Good luck with the job hunt. Cheers

So happy you all got a place to stay.. Enjoy!! New Years Eve in Sydeny is NUTS!!! One of the biggest events in the World with the Fireworks everywhere!!
When I visted Sydney (multiple New Years Eves, Im from Adelaide).. I would just explore one side of George Street.. On the first day, just turn every left corner (leads yoou back onto yourself) and explore all the little shops and laneways.... Then the next day do the other side of the road and turn right etc..
Sydney isnt a "planned" city like Adelaide is (laid out by a "Town Planner") so there are heaps of crazy little laneways and shops.. And its basically the Oldest city/Capital..

Welcome - I love the fact you still think an American coffee with cream is a good thing - that will change as you realise just how good our coffee is compared to the US. Oh and it’s Macca’s not McDonald’s. Ginger Ale is Ginger Beer, we call Sprite, Lemonade and what you call lemonade we call traditional lemonade. I have been to the states over a dozen times and love the differences, but don’t miss the queues. Oh and what you called a bird is a Bush Turkey! Kind of like the Ibis in the last video we call a Bin Chicken. Everyone just ignores both of them.

iced coffee - yeah in Oz I want a scoop of ice cream in it - but in Japan recently iced coffee came as unsweetened black coffee with ice cubes - so it pays to check ! if you haven't tried it, look for affogato - a scoop of vanilla ice cream with the tiny amount (25-30cc) of espresso coffee poured over it - a problem if hot as it tends to melt the ice cream quickly - if cold you can savour the flavours more slowly

First is Melbourne, my hometown as the vibe there is so good and honestly the quality of life is slightly better than Sydney, plus coffee here is amazing and the people are known for being very friendly.
Secondly I would visit the Gold Coast if you like being around beaches then surfers paradise (and most of the coastline there) is great for that, there’s also music festival and other events that get held there, and if your into theme parks then I would recommend Movie World or Dream World the most.
These are just suggestions but I do hope you enjoy your time in Australia, it is an amazing country whether your in the big cities like Sydney or Melbourne or out in the outback visiting Uluṟu.
