- Everything YOU need to know, in order to get your NEW Angel's Landing 2022 Pilot Program Permit.
Angel's Landing is an amazing hike in Zion National Park. It's one of the best hikes in all of Utah, but it's also one of the most popular and crowded hiking trails with a permit required to hike to the summit. The good news is that permits are easy to get!

I held my breath the entire time of the video!
Nice video. I hiked the Narrows in 2014, and wanted to do Angel's Landing since then. Heading to Vegas in October and want to make a day or two trip back to Zion. Biggest thing I'm worried about are the crowds, but it sounds like the permit system makes it much safer and less crowded now.
That looks awesome. This hike is on our bucket list for sure! Looks way better less crowded too.
Wow! that was a really beautiful 😍 hike but kind of scary too😬. Thanks for taking us along. Love y'all! And have a💜 Happy Easter🙏💜🌹
😘💜💜💜💜🐾🐍💜🐰🐥
Happy Easter to you too!
Nice 😎😎😎👍👍👍 some of those people coming down looked petrified 🙄🙄😳😳😳
haha, yeah they did! It would definitely be more nerve-racking if it were crowded.
I’m headed out to Bryce and Zion next week. I’m hoping Lady Luck grants me a permit. I have 6 days to apply for them so looking forward to this.
You shouldn't have any trouble. Good luck!
Just did that - how crazy!! Didn’t know about the lottery til we saw your video. Watching this before our hike was so helpful!! Just got a GoPro - leaning how to use it. Can you tell me what you use to edit and export? No idea where to start. Thanks!!
Glad it helped! I use Final Cut Pro to edit. iMovie is free and will do 99% of what you need for UA-cam/IG type stuff.
the lottery is a friggin joke. You have a better chance of scoring a three way with Scarlett Johansson and Amy Adams than getting a permit.
Both my wife and I were able to get permits on the first attempt. I haven’t applied for the 3-way, but you’re making it seem like my odds are pretty good.
😳😲😮Holy Guacamole 🥑 Guys!!!! I will let you guys enjoy 😉 I see why its called Angel's Landing😵💫 any mistakes make sure your ready to meet your maker😁😆.. wow great footage!!!😇
Thanks Robin! It definitely got checked off our bucket list!
Beautiful shots of Angles Landing. What did the kids do while you were on that part of the hike?
Thank you! They found some shade at Scout Lookout and spent the time on their iPods 🤣.
Thanks for sharing! Will be driving through all 5 Utah Parks in September and want to do this one. Could you link the gloves you guys were wearing in the video? Do you feel like it really helped grip the chains?
Glad it was helpful. The gloves were the ones we used for Half Dome. I thought they’d be useful. They definitely didn’t hurt to have, but weren’t necessary by any means. As the season progresses though, I imagine the chains can get quite hot as the entire chains section is exposed, so they might help with that.
No link, sorry, but they are the inexpensive gardening gloves from any hardware store. They have a grippy rubber coating on the palm.
Hi, how far is it to the grotto from the entrance where you can’t drive through? Also, what time does shuttle buses start? I got a permit before 8 am, and wanting to see the sun rise. Need information on distance to get to the grotto and hike to the top. Thanks.
The grotto is stop number 6 out of 9 & is 4.9 miles from the visitor center. The 2023 spring/summer shuttle schedule is being announced in March!
Hey thank you for the helpful infos. Which shoes did you wear for hiking to Angel‘s landing?
We always wear our Altra Lone Peaks for hiking.
If I am traveling with a friend both of us have to apply for a permit and get it individually? It would be a joke if one of us got it and the other doesn't.
I believe you can apply for group permits
so basically, apply the day before that's so dumb. what if you go like around 4am to catch the sunrise
It's been 3 weeks since this video was posted - ARE Y'ALL OK? I PRAY you are all in good health and order. Please let us know how you are doing!! WE MISS Y'ALL & CARE TONS!! 💕💕💕🌹💕💕💕
Thanks so much for reaching out! Sorry for the lapse. We’ve been swamped with work. We will be updating.
@@ProjectTrek I just wanted to know that y'all are all OK!! Thank you SOOOO much for replying - means tons!! Blessings!! Cyn 🌻
Helpful, thank you!
Thanks for sharing the video. We are going this weekend. So, were there a lot of people hiking up Angel's Landing or it was manageable? My time slot is from 9-12pm too. Thanks.
It was very manageable. It might be difficult to tell from the video, but even West Rim leading up to Scout Lookout was very manageable. I will say that we hiked pretty early on in the season.
Beautiful video! I have the same bicycle as you. How was the parking? did you lock it up? Is there a designated bicycle parking area? I am planning on doing this hike in a couple weeks.
No personal vehicles allowed at the trailhead. Yes, designated bike parking. Bike parking was crowded though, but plenty of things to lock up to.
I've got a question :-) you said that part of the hike can be done without a permit but the rangers checked your tickets twice (at the beginning and before the chain trail). So what was the first check for? or are there two kinds of permits? Thank you and greetings from Germany. :-)
First check-in at the trailhead is to make sure you’re starting your hike within your permitted time window (ours was 9am-12pm) the second ranger check-in at the Scout Lookout was to make sure that anyone going on to the chains section has the permit.
And do you apply for the permit once you are there? Can I come from WA state and apply for the permit there, or should I come with a permit already?
Apply now on rec.gov. Same day is lottery based.
How long would you say the hike with the permit part is? I am looking to do the hike with a friend who wants to hike, but doesn’t want to do that chain part.
You said 2 hours to get to the chains .
Thank you for the video!
Permit section out-and-back at a very leisurely pace was 1.5 hrs.
So glad to see it back to a more safe hike. I live in town and over the years AL became a dangerous hike (one fatality last year was a guy letting others pass by and he was jostled and fell to his death). Your hike makes it look enjoyable and safer…I might have to try and score a permit.
I know there’s some controversy surrounding the permit system, and I hate that there are people who won’t get access, but it was so enjoyable and relaxing.
I could do the non permitted hike but the permitted hike makes my stomach hurt! Ugh. So scared of heights!
It really wasn’t as bad as the hype-youtubers make it seem. The wide-angle lenses make it look more treacherous than it really is. Super enjoyable! I’m not crazy about dizzying heights either.
Hey, Nate, is there ANY part of the chain section that is void of chains?
Yes there’s plenty of the permitted section that doesn’t have chains.
I have a question, so you have to be there and then apply for the permit or the lottery? I need to understand this part because I’m coming from far away and then get there and not get a permit would be sad.
My understanding is that APGAR policies have changed and it’s online reservations now. Maybe someone else can confirm. You should be able to check on Rec.gov.
How are you doing with the gas prices are you still traveling a lot or staying put
Haha thanks for asking! Not going to lie, it does sting every time we fill up. We’re traveling the California coast this summer so it’s definitely a larger part of our budget. In reality though it’s a couple hundred dollars more per month.
Our biggest expense, by far, is health insurance. If someone could figure that out ASAP that’s be great…🤣
Hey Nate, what’s your ethnic background?
Half Chinese, the rest is mostly Scandinavian.
before it was all easier you entered the park and did everything without permit,
Another hiker dead.. Quit acting like it's not dangerous. Stick to the trail stay away from the edge!
Angel’s Landing trail isn’t dangerous under normal conditions.
