    Got approved for my permit just a few days back so me and my 15 year old son set off to do the landing. Before we set off on our journey, we agreed to either both do the chain section or neither of us would. Once we approached the chains, I was pumped and ready to go with no trepidation but my son was standing on wobbly knees so we turned back. I was a little disappointed that he didnt want me to do the chains alone but im glad we agreed to stick together. Next time!

    Thanks for your video, I was able to do the hike in its entirety earlier this week! I had seen way too many videos mostly scaring people and lots of negativity- but you laid it out nicely and made me feel mentally better about it!

    You guys basically planned my entire trip!! Everything I knew about this place, how to get around, shuttles, where to stay, etc. was from your videos! We did Angel's Landing and The Narrows and it was truly truly amazing.

    Your no-nonsense approach really helps to make this hike seem doable for everyone. There was no sensationalism, just a straightforward guide to the trail. I also really like the bonus tip at the end. (By the way, who in the world is giving this a thumbs-down? Must be a "rival" vlogger. :) )

    Did this hike just last week and I wish I would’ve found your video before going. Everything went well. My grand sons (13,11,7) did this with my son and I. I’m not super afraid of heights but I think I had some PTSD after this hike. I was fine while doing it but after.. I kept thinking what could’ve gone wrong 😱. But soooo glad I did it. My son had a tether to his 7 yo but even that can have cause for concern. The 7 yo had no problems with the height! I would definitely recommend this hike. We started after 3:30 bc tickets for the shuttle’s were hard to get 🤦🏼‍♀️ bc of Covid. We did it in under 4 hours and not as many people that late. The hike down is much faster than the hike up.

    Thanks for the straight forward tips on doing Angeles Landing. Love your enthusiasm and appreciate you guys not taking it lightly, not making the hike into some sort of bucket list item or personal challenge thing like in some other videos I’ve seen. We just got back from ZNP, we didn’t do this particular hike but will consider it when we go back next time. Thanks again!

      I would still plan on it being that long. The chain section (which is the section the lottery allows you to hike), is only 0.5 mile. Whether you do the chain section or not, it will still take a good several hours.

I couldn’t get tickets for the 6am shuttle, but got them for the 7am, I sure hope it’s not already too crowded by then. Do you know how early we can line up for the shuttle? I definitely want to be on the very first 7am shuttle.

    I'm leaving from Michigan to attempt Angeles landing on Friday, I hiked half dome in Yosemite this summer 😳 but only made it to the cables. I didn't attempt to go to the top cause my strength was week 🙃. It was a 10 hour hike 🚶‍♂️ and a 140 mile drive 🚗 from Fresno. I believe that the drive and lack of rest stops kept me from getting to the top of half -dome . Shure hope 🙏 to complete angles landing. I'm staying in Springdale. Should I start at the Grotto or take your route? What do you think of canyon overlook trail 👣 for the second 🤔 days hike?

    • @WereintheRockies
      @WereintheRockies  4 роки тому

      Yosemite and Zion in one year! Awesome. I would start at the Grotto. If you still have energy when you come back down, head to Emerald Pools and back to the Lodge. Second day canyon overlook trail = 👍!

    • @WereintheRockies

    So the permit they want you to get is fair. But is a lottery which isn't exactly a winner for everyone that buys a ticket. Do they have also have to pay for it to.... Some scrap by on trips. Like oh 160 to get to Florida and 160 back and 2 dollars left upon return... Some people do that several times a year.

  • @laurasowa
    @laurasowa 2 роки тому

    I am not afraid of the hike as much as I am about the crowds. I understand there is a lottery system. Any idea how many permits will be issued? Better yet, we are hearing perhaps late afternoon might actually be LESS crowded than early morning for this hike?? We will be there the first week in June.

    • @WereintheRockies
      @WereintheRockies  2 роки тому +1

      There’s no way of telling yet. I have a video coming out in a week or two with more details about it. But I wouldn’t be surprised if the afternoon is less crowded. It’s really hot in the afternoon in Zion.

    I’m so grateful I found your channel. I planned a last minute Memorial Day trip and had no idea about the shuttles. Thanks to you I was able to book a commercial shuttle. We want to do Angels Landing however the shuttle is picking us up from the visitor center at 10 am and the return is four hours later. Will that be enough time? Also, how much time should we allow ourselves to get into the park after we find parking? I’m assuming the lines to get in will be long and I’m worried we will miss the shuttle. Thank you so much for all the info. I’ll be watching every one of your Zion videos before we go.

    • @WereintheRockies
      @WereintheRockies  3 роки тому

      Last time I did Angel's Landing, I did it in under 3 hours but I went pretty fast. If you are in good shape, you can go up those switch backs for the first 2 miles in not too much time. However, once you get to the Hog's back "chain section" it can take 45 minutes to do the last half mile because you have to wait your trun as you pass people. If you are running out of time, you can stop at Scout's Lookout (2 miles into the hike)
      As far as entrance to the park, if you are walking in, the line has never been more than 10 minutes. Your shuttle company may drive you into the park as well, depending on which company you use. Good luck

    Angela’s landing is not 5 miles. It’s 1 mile. From
    Grotto bus stop you hike up to Scout Lookout on west rim trail. You can continue on west rim trail or hike Angel’s landing which is 1.1 miles round trip. Pretty sure those numbers are correct.

    • @WereintheRockies
      @WereintheRockies  Рік тому +1

      The hike is 5.4 miles. However, from Scout Lookout to the top of Angels Landing (and back to Scout Lookout) is approx 1 mile. www.nps.gov/zion/planyourvisit/zion-canyon-trail-descriptions.htm
