Miata Slow Windows CHEAP Repair Fix | Honda Shin Etsu Grease
Вставка
- Опубліковано 20 кві 2018
- I got sick of the slow moving windows on my NA Miata. I bought the delrin window bushings from Moss Miata. The original bushings were actually okay on my car, but since I had the car apart anyways I figured I would upgrade to the delrin bushings and grease the slides with Honda Shin Etsu Grease (link below).
The Shin Etsu grease and window rail cleaning has the biggest affect on the window speed. I don't think the bushings are necessary unless yours have completely worn out. This means you can fix your windows for less than $20.

This greatly improved the mobility of my windows. I was actually worried I would burn out my window motors they went so slow (before this fix).

Thank you for making this video! I used it as a guide today. But I'd say any silicone grease will work, not just the fancy one from Honda.
Yes, it's probably the same thing, but it's what everyone swears by in the Miata forums! Thanks for the recommendation!
Good complete video. I was a little scared to take out the entire window and rails. I did take off the door panel and located the window rails. I took lithium grease on my finger and hooked around the rail and coated the inside of the rail in several places.. it improved the window function greatly..
Awesome to hear! These jobs can be daunting sometimes, but as long as you keep track of how it came apart they go together like Legos! Glad we could help you out
Didn’t realize how crazy it was to be working right over a grate until you dropped that bolt!
The grate pulls up fortunately 🙏
THANK YOU for the detailed video. I have a 2004 Mazdaspeed and except for the small details of how to take off the door panels (they differ from NA to NB), the procedure was exact and perfect!
Glad we could help out!
Thanks for the video! I noticed how bad they were even on the manual windows, I’ll be doing the same thing!
If you have manual windows, leave them. That's a free forearm workout you're just throwing away! 😂
Thank you for making this video, made my life a thousand times easier!!!
Glad we could help!
Thanks for the great video. Just did the passenger on my NA. Great tip about wearing gloves to remove the plastic. That tar is super sticky
Glad it was helpful, it's been long enough now I might need to do it it again 🥴
damn wih you showed how well they moved now
I knowwwwww, I totally forgot to record that
Hardway Learning lool all that work but you didn’t show the end result 😂 Thanks for posting this up!
Well done, logical video without all the usual useless blabbering.
Thanks for the compliment!
Nice video, but i agree with other commenters that it’s a bit frustrating not seeing the end result and understanding how faster the windows move compared to before this work.
On a positive note, the paint on your car looks amazing. Is it really as nice as it appears in this video? Did you do any correction after you bought the car?
Good luck with this series. I look forward to seeing more Miata videos.
Hey, thank you for the feedback. I remember planning on recording a before and after clip, but it totally slipped my mind that day. The windows were definitely quicker after this process of cleaning and greasing, but mostly in the way that the motors didn't sound stressed. I feel that Mazda might have underpowered the window assembly I've heard others complain they aren't as fast as most power windows. As for the paint, I did polish the whole car and was completely blown away with the results. I'll have to make a video of what process I used. One area that I have struggled to improve is the front bumper, it still is rather faded as well as the rear plastic trim the license plate sits in.
I also have a classic red (NB) Miata, so I’m curious to know how you got such great results with your paint. At least from what we see in this video, the paint looks like it’s almost in showroom condition.
My windows also move slowly, (though not as slow as your driver side before greasing the tracks), and were improved by trying to clean and grease the tracks while removing the door card and vapor barrier, but not the tracks. They move at an acceptable speed now, but if they get any slower I’ll probably remove the tracks and clean and grease properly. When that day comes this video will be a useful reference.
I spent some time writing up a brief summary of the supplies I used and the process of how I got the car looking the way it does. You can view that here: hardwaylearning.com/miata-paint-correction-process/
I’m halfway through unsticking my NB Miata’s passenger side window and it just reaffirms how much I prefer manual windows. Also, that tarry stuff may be the most awful substance known to man.
Thanks for the video. My NB driver's side window only goes down about halfway then stops as if something is blocking it. I need to take it all apart and see what the problem is.
That's a bummer... 😰 good luck with the fix and thanks for the comment!
If you haven't fixed it yet, it might just be a cable which you can ziptie out of the way
Dang. You had a bushing there... mines just missing🤣
Yeah that's not good 😆
Thanks to you and this video I had the courage to do this fix myself 👍
Glad we could inspire some DIY activity! The more you do, the less scary each fix is. I never would have thought I would have turboed a car myself, but I've slowly built up the skill and confidence to do it! Cheers
3:13 that's some advanced squatting skills
Flexibility is key 🗝️
Can I use CV axle greese?
That would most likely attract dirt and not be a long lasting solution.
Pretty much the same for an NB? My 2003 SE is needing some window help soon.
It should be the same other than how the door panel comes off! 👍
Hardway Learning No worries there. I’ve had door panels off a few times in the past for other things, including a Bosectomy , replacing with Alpine system. So....just ordered Delrin bushings and the Honda grease. Will make the change soon. Windows slow, driver’s doesn’t go down all the way when cold outside. Don’t like straining the window motors! I see those are just under $200 each.
@@LiquidGardener definitely worth it to get in there before you ruin a motor! Good luck with the install 👍
@@HardwayLearning Thanks mucho for the vid. I just finished my NB with new Moss Miata bushings and Honda Shin Etsu grease. First door took longer as it was kind of a learning curve; second much faster. Both windows now much faster and smoother ;)
@@donwest1869 awesome to hear! Glad it worked out for you! 👍
Do you need to put the plastic back on? Can you throw it out?
I would recommend reapplying the plastic, it helps keep rain water out of the cabin.
Wait, how do you put the plastic back on?? Does the goo stay sticky enough to just press it back into place or do you need to apply new goo?
Yeah it stays tacky enough to re-apply
Wonder if all that did anything
This in combination with the switch refresh made them 30% faster
Too much work! Just locate the top of the window tracks with windows down (it’s easy) and spray silicone down into the rails and along front-edge rubber gasket. A real quick fix without the tedious hassle of taking your doors apart!
this is why we call ourselves hardway learning
Nix the music please. Too distracting.
duxas
Wuxas?
Lmao Honda doesn’t make that 😂 they big and sell it at a premium
But it's magic grease that works!
@@HardwayLearning lol I know I work for the company that makes it just wanted to put it in the comments so people don’t get confused because it’s not made or produced by Honda at all Shin-Etsu is the company that makes sells and produces this grease
@@dclem90 Doing a little investing research (01/2024) and see that Shin-Etsu is currently ranked as the 9th largest silicon wafer (for IC-chips manufacturing) in the world! I knew they were a huge lubricant producer... but it seems they are "all things silicone" LOL. They supply many of the major chip makers. Impressive corporation.
🤡
♥️
Wtf is the point of this video? You don’t even show the end results lmfao. I’m guessing it didn’t go as fast as you were hoping 😂💀
It actually helped a bunch, I just forgot to record it 🤷♂️
@@HardwayLearning but again… you didn’t even show the fact it works lmfao. You just say it does. I can say the moon is purple. Doesn’t make it true. Like why go through and make this whole video to not even show your end results you’re so proud of. That jus doesn’t make sense
Why talk to random Internet strangers? Sometimes you learn something from others and sometimes you just have to take someone's word for it. 🤷♂️
No finish demonstration, lame.
I know 😭, that's my bad
