Jay Mohr had a solid early podcast. Bill Burr, Marc Maron(who has a Patrice episode), Bob Kelly, Rogan, even Kevin Smith's smodcasts. Those were entertaining times. Sadly it's a business and they're all compromised in one way or another. Formulaic and just reacting to the same bullshit in the news. If you heard one, you're hearing the same opinion of 5 other guys.

It was around 2005. I wanted to make a good impression on this chick I just started to date. So I got two tickets to Riddles Comedy Club in Orland Park, IL. I was a stand-up comedy fan but somehow I didn't recognize the name Patrice ONeal . When I purchased the tickets, I thought ''damn, who is this Woman headlining the show?....ah fuck it, she must be funny''...
But as we arrived and walked thru the club, I realized Patrice was no Woman. He was a Man...the funniest Man I have ever had the privilege to witness. The way he worked the crowd...just riffing. A true master at his art.
I laughed so hard that night. The next day my abdominal muscles were sore.
Been a fan ever since. It's so saddening we lost him. I want to hear his thoughts on all the crazy shit that has been going down over these recent years.

Chappelle is the only one. They orbit each other. The problem is, Dave is a big foot, and while Patrice is a big foot too, Patrice was way more accessible. Patrice will take on the challenge, Dave miiigght strategically avoid something if it was tooo controversial, where as Patrice really offers his personal organic philosophical perspective which is the best. And while Dave has that too, you feel like, it’s very limited to how much he spews it.
Those 2 are thee best ever in my honest opinion

Patrice had so much integrity he would've probably bailed during his first ever podcast ad and never made ad revenue because he "sounded phony." The professional bridge-burner was finally about to build his own bridge, and it hurts to hear how optimistic he was towards the end. The podcast era is tailor made for Patrice, and he would have exploded to stand up superstardom with Jay's strategy (which as he mentioned was Segura's advice, and it's safe to say Tom is proof it works).

I've never heard anyone else match Patrice's ability to break down what they think about a thing and why. I'm not saying I always agree of course, but he always had a really interesting angle. I just got to the part where he just didn't go to film his scene in The Office - Jay says that's insane and Patrice says yeah but you accept a certain level of your own insanity. 100% right, but I never heard anyone come up with that explanation as quickly and honestly as that. Amazing guy.

First time I found this. Whoever said Mohr was a dud missed out on a friend with experience helping Patrice in one of his most memorable issues with his career. If Patrice wasn't ready or they weren't close we wouldn't have heard him hear how Jay showed him hope in the "Hollywood" issue that Patrice was either ready for another run or not quitting every time his mind says these other cast members have nothing on me.. I think that was a great conversation and obviously it wasn't going to be the next part of his journey however if he was still around you never know what effect that conversation would have had he msy have learned just enough when Mohr was able to earn his ear. Patrice prob would've ended up the baddest non sell out funny mofo Hollywood has ever seen . i Gained a lot of respect for Jay Mohr, wish the family of Patrice the best as always and thanks for the Memories

He got in on the podcast train early and never took off because of how unlistenable he is. Said no to all the Roasts, and told Spike Lee to "talk to my agent" when he offered him a role over the phone lmao. Despite all of this you could tell he would have been at least Bill Burr level famous today. I think this is one of the very last things he ever did... damn. It sounded like he was gearing up to (begrudgingly) do so much more....

Waking up everyday with a disease you know is going to kill you, I can imagine is pretty demotivating. It's clear to us now why he wasn't as motivated by money as Mohr and why he leaned toward cynicism.
