    Goddamn... the last 20 minutes of this are so sad in retrospect - especially when you know Patrice was no longer with us just 2 weeks or so after this originally aired. He sounded like he really had, or at least was in the process of turning the corner and on to the next bigger and better stage of both his life and career. His death robbed us all of greatness and not to be obvious or cliché but especially Patrice himself.

      But, to see Patrice fade out at the height of the passion of his ethic, his righteousness and to never have sold out, is beautiful. Patrice lived and died literally being the epitome of a tragic comedy. Its fuckin Shakespearean. But it would have been nice for Patrice to go on until at least, around 70. He would be one of the most infamous people of all time in the modern cultural climate of the western world.

      He pretty firmly did not want to take care of his body. Even in an interview after the roast, Shatner said he thought Patrice was content with his coming death.

    im not a OandA fan, however i couldt appreciate them more, they doubled our listening time of patrice content. they allowed him to rant to his hearts content. they would tell him "WRITE A DAMN BOOK" while everyone else went "Oh patrice stop it". Thank you Opie and anthony for gifting us with such amazing patrice content. Thank you so much.

    Patrice died a soldier of his own platoon. I spot comments mentioning his self destructiveness and how he could have made it blah blah blah... He was doing things for himself not for the thirsty audiences. The more comments there are about what the entertained wanted from him, the more his isolated behavior makes sense to me and I have high respect for limiting his gift to the entertainment world.

    • @salazam
      @salazam 6 років тому +9

      I agree. You don't want to pander because although you might increase your audience, you lose respect. You still gotta eat though, blowing up as a cult figure after you die isn't going to feed you today. I think artists struggle with this dilemma and most choose filling the stomach because no one wants to go out like Tesla or Van Gogh. That's what separates the mediocre from the great, however. Patrice was one of the greats and I believe time will only show this more.

    I know everyone says it and then half the other commenters say “you weren’t a fan when he was alive” but I don’t give a shit about the latter. I was a fan then but that doesn’t matter either way, I fucking miss Patrice. What a introspective and HILARIOUS man with such original ideas and takes on everything from race to culture, the industry to religion, and everything I’m between or outside the lines. Nothing was out of bounds or off limits and he was unrepentantly honest. There will never be another human comparable to Patrice. Thank god for O&A for giving us so much Patrice material we would never have had otherwise. RIP Patrice and thank you for all the laughs, tears, and all the things you made me think or look at in a way I never would have even imagined without your perspective... I wish he could have known how many people he truly touched and made laugh until they cried. Thank you Patrice and thank you to everyone who uploads these things and allows us to enjoy things we missed at the time.

    I hate to bring this up but Patrice would have eventually done Rogan's Podcast which would have been good.. Rogan is a friend of the O&A crew so they already know eachother I can see some deep discussions going on

      ThaWiseJester i know this somment was half a decade ago but patrice would have done rogans podcast for the sake that they've known eachother since the Boston comedy club days. They are both from mass too. Both friends with burr, norton, keith Robinson, Dane cook, Bobby kelly. Patrice was only on OnA because he already knew norton previously.

    I would think Patrice would be a huge star and have a big podcast platform in 2020.
    You would want to hear what he has to say about recent events.

    Patrice Podcast would have ruled, his blindside was himself and just how near to great he was, Jay puts him up with greats like Chris Farley in later podcasts, must say this is a pretty eloquent and educated youtube comment timeline.

  • @ValisX

    Yeah, i agree with everything everyone is saying here, Patrice was just coming into his own around Elephant in the room. He covers such a broad spectrum in his comedy and the things he talks about that it seems like he was just sort of placing all the pieces of who he was together.
    He's so divergently different from any other comic, its a shame we wont get to see the final picture of what he was becoming as a performer.

  • @Saternoc
    @Saternoc 12 років тому +1

    He admits that it's a flaw of his and I agree. Sometimes he wrongfully believes that in a comedy podcast, he has to constantly be dishing jokes every so often. That's why I like Marc Maron's interviews. There's comedy, but more than anything you get to know the person. You see where they're coming from.

    I'm a bit of a racist. And that being said, I'm a huge fan of Patrice for many years. Patrice O'neal was a man. To the fullest extent of that word. Wise, light-years beyond his time. Nothing but respect to this great thinker.
    Goddamn, I miss this guy.

    This is so fucking heart breaking. Patrice was just getting his shit the way he needed it. It had to take this long. That's life. He had to go through what he went through, to arrive at where he was the last two years. And he was about to get it all. ........Fuck this shit. Fuck it all.

    Ugh. It's almost sickening to hear Patrice talking about his future in the business. Sad loss here even after all this time. We can only imagine what Patrice would have gotten into in the past two years, but I'm sure it would have been great.

    It's ironic he didn't want to be a martyr but ended up becoming one. He was just waiting for his Chazz Palminteri opportunity and it would have come if he had just stuck in there. Jay was trying to goad him into selling out to increase his audience but all it takes is one Slash or DeNiro knowing you and you're in your breakout role. I think. I have no idea how it really works, but that's the word on the street.

    you can tell that there was something wrong with patrice(obv, had a stroke and battled diabetes) but just the way he was speaking and his quickness in replying

    • @deepcanadian1633
      @deepcanadian1633 8 років тому +1

      +DRUNK_ON_PUNCH this was days before his stroke, days leading upto strokes sings can be seen as verbal struggles,motor skills etc,like this. patrice was always quick and snap witted and very sharp which is why I made my comment. I've seen the signs in person also. maybe that makes me see it more Idk imo
