- In this video we pattern test Boss 20GA and Boss .410 bismuth! We also shoot our favorite steel waterfowl loads just for a comparison and to see what load will be best for the up coming season!

Good job guys. I hope it encourages us all to do the same patterning of our shotguns. I recently discovered my 12 ga was hitting low . Paper won't tell you everything, but it helps.
Nice video.. New subscriber as of today..lol.. I love what you all are doing.. I'm sticking with my Remington SP 10 ga shooting Federal Black Cloud in BB out of
my .720 Terror choke tube for goose hunting & my Browning Gold 12 ga shooting Federal Black Cloud #3's out of a .675 Terror choke tube.. Both are lights out deadly on duck & geese.. That's what works best for me.. I will say that Boss Waterfowl shells are awesome.. My daughter uses a Remington 11-87 20ga shooting the Boss 3x5 duplex loads out of her Carlson's Cremator mid or long range choke tubes & it's a real duck & goose killer setup.. I also must say being a die hard waterfowl hunter & outdoorsman I loved the comment at the end.. Your absolutely right.. We owe it to any animal we are pursuing to cleanly & humanely harvest them..

Nice vid man!!! I’m not sure about y’all, but when patterning I prefer to shoot a few rounds on paper, just to see what the actual area coverage would be, bc bb’s don’t always fly straight, and sometimes the patter isn’t always a perfect circle.
Also 20 gauge Boss #5 have killed ducks pheasant and lessers all last year for me

What happened to you guys at recoil outdoors.. You guys going to be putting out any new videos.. ? The early goose hunting season here in PA has been awesome..
Both of those chokes (PM and Carlsons) have their advantages. The PM is a wad restricting choke, so you get way shorter shot strings, which amounts to more hits on target. That doesnt show up on pattern boards because you are shooting at a target that isnt moving. You will notice it on birds though. I like the cason's for steel home loads because their are no speed limitations (like the PM, which recommends you dont shoot anything over 1550 fps). I shoot steel home loads that are 1800 fps a** kickers. Carlsons can handle them and really get out there. If speed was even though, and below 1550 I'd take the PM. Have fun, and good hunting! !
The shot string theory has been proven wrong. Pattern masters wad stripping chokes dont work like they intended to either
Good video, guys. a couple of notes on patterning with bismuth shot (especially Boss) and in general to help you guys do even better than you did on this video:
1) Boss and most bismuth shells want to be choked down (as you state), but perform best with chokes that have a smooth parallel section. That means no steps, studs, or wad stripping "cheese-grater" ports. Carlson's sporting tubes, Trulock's, Non-ported Jeb's, and Briley tubes are all great after-market tubes to take a look at with these shells. Also, most of the best patterns I have seen with Boss has been out of the factory flush fit and extended tubes in Improv. Mod. and Full constrictions. I think you will be blown away with the 20ga patterns out of the Stoeger M3020 if you go to a factory or aftermarket smooth bored choke in IM or Full. The Carlson's Cremator chokes are great, but they do have those constricting steps designed to help choke steel shot that don't always help with bismuth and lead. The constrictions are actually more like LM and IM instead of what you would expect as Mod (Mid-Range labeled) and Full (extended range). Nonetheless, that Stoeger threw some very good patterns with the 3/5 duplex and your Carlson's chokes; it definitely will crush ducks and geese inside of 40 yards.
2) You did a good job with the pattern board. Smaller than standard, but it did what it needed to. Going to a larger board will help you though, especially in the realm of patterning less shells. You noticed the 3020 was throwing the pattern core a little high at 40 and made the adjustment to re-shoot the pattern with a lower hold (great job, btw). But, if you run a bigger board with a 30" circle, you will be able to see the pattern core more easily, as well as determine your POI vs POA. I have found with my wife's M3020 that it likes to throw about a 60/40 pattern split with just about everything, which was discovered on a BIG pattern board. Prior to that, we thought it was blowing patterns randomly as my wife struggled to hit with it using duck loads. Not all loads have the same POI in each specific gun as well, so patterning with a bigger board will help you better evaluate the consistency and accuracy of each load.
Other than those comments on how to help you guys gather even better data on the next pattern session, Great Job! I very much enjoyed the video.

#7 Bismuth is even lighter than lead I would not go shooting that at ducks
So it's ok to shoot in a standard 410 full choke brl?I mean tss is being used in standard full choke brl
I have not had an issue with it. And you are correct, I’ve shot TSS through a XFull turkey choke and TSS is way denser than bismuth.
