Anomalocaris: *was one of the first top predators with deadly adaptations that made it dominate its ocean home* Some weird ape creatures that evolved hundreds of millions of years later: “I wonder what it would taste like”
idk why, but questions like this have always been on my mind. What did Anomolocaris taste like? What did Charnia taste like? What did Dickinsonia taste like? how would we prepare them for consumption?
Anomalocaris is best prepared by removing the exoskeleton first. This is easily done by parboiling it for 5 minutes. Once cool enough, the exoskeleton peels off like week old sun burnt skin. Slice the back open lengthwise, half way through the body. Removing the innards is easy, like a prawn. Chop the meat into big chunks for a quick fry. Remember it's already partially cooked! Fry with just a few vegies and herbs and spices of your choice since you want to enjoy the anomalous! taste.
Taste isn’t a concept. It evolved to allow positive feedback from eating something, like sex 😂. The more you enjoy the taste of something the more you will eat it, allowing you to become more specialised in sourcing that taste (food source) and survive. Taste likely evolved over 500MYA. The appendages of anomalocaris are clearly specialised, basically saying it enjoyed the taste of what it ate to put it simply. There’s a lot more that goes into it but taste is one of the many important aspects to a species survival.
Thank you so very much! Sorry for the late reply but I originally scrapped the idea, I've just checked back on the channel again and saw your awesome comment, as well as a couple of subscribers. After seeing this support, I will most definitely get the Cromo Paleo Show back on track starting this week! Thanks again for the motivation!
To eat or in general? They would be too small to eat really. And it would likely be risky to create demand on such a small percentage of an animal. If there even tasty at all. The cool thing about their eyes is just how refined they are. Mantis shrimp, anomalocaris's closest living relative, are believed to currently hold the crown for the animal kingdoms most complex eyes. They can see light we can't, due to having more light receptors. It wouldn't be out the realm of possibility to assume anomalocaris to also possed such vision. So yeah, their pretty cool!
@@CromoPaleoShow That is disappointing. Just another boring crustacean then. I had envisioned naming the anomalocaris Joseph (after Joseph Frederick Whiteaves) and teaching it to fetch a ball, but it would probably just bite my hand either out of fear or thinking my hand was food.
@@FinalLugiaGuardian They sucked up worms for dinner so i doubt they'd be able to even pierce your skin. Could probably give you a good tickle with those... arms...?
Bit late to the party... My guess the fin and lobe will have very little meat like legs on crab or lobster. The appendage is likely with texture of scallop. Consider the mucle tissue is likely more primitive back then. The body will have chewy meat. But still not at the level of lobster or shrimp tail. Taste wise I will suspect to be sweet indeed. Considering the sea back then is somewhat similar to current sea I term of chemical composition. Sigh.... The taste of Anomalocaris is likely to be forever mystry... Unless... We can find a paralle earth currently at Cambrian period and manage catch Anomalocaris there...
Thank you very much! Unfortunately the Cromo Paleo Show was scrapped. However due to the support given by all you AWSOME people, I am already working on a new video! And plenty more to come! Thank you!
From what I gathered, it's body was certainly softer that crustaceans, but not that soft. See, anomalocaris was a stem arthropod, so it shared a common ancestor to arthropods, but followed it's own evolutionary path. So it could have been similar to a velvet worm, but I suspect it was more like a recently moulted crab. So the exoskeleton was flexible, but stilled held its structure.

I STILL SEE YOU EVERYWHERE!
We did ate a lot of species to extinction, it's our nature.

Anomalocaris existed long before the concept of "taste"

Funny video, great concept. You should get costumes and do another.

People are so greedy this is why all the aniimals from earth are disappered
probably just taste like lobster and fish
Hey quick question, what about the eyes?

Setting here watching prehistoric planet and all I can think about is how would that big shrimp taste
I want to know what an anomalocaris would be like as a pet.
Would anomalocaris be like having a pet shrimp or could you teach it to do tricks?
I think it would it would be like an overgrown shrimp, just kinda swimming around in circles. But. you never know 😂

I can imagine it like a pet lobster and shrimp combined

I believe it's now half a metre long and not the largest cambrian organism.
I know what it would taste like

theres a recipe on big oven called anomalocaris noodle casserole
Taste like shrimp, snail and something else.
It probably tasted legendary
Wasn't its tissue probably closer to velvet worms than derived panarthropods like crustaceans?
