Great video! I was there years ago. I've read all of Poe's works-the guy was a literary genius.

RVA resident and I’ve been to the second floor in the Old Stone House (a friend worked there, her office was up there, and my 3 year old at the time was volunteering to be little Edgar Allan Poe in a celebration. It’s beautiful and it was so incredibly amazing to be near those primary sources and know he touched them.
I was with a small group that also performed Victorian Christmas carols back in those arches (five of us, I got to be the alto 😂). and the acoustics are insane. Thanks for the trip down Memory Lane!
(I also had a terrifying experience that same day on the second floor and am pretty sure it’s haunted, but it’s still beautiful.)

Thanks Chris for showing this fabulous house. I've been there too. I hope one day you will tour the St.Johh's church and grounds which is only a few blocks away. Poe's mother is buried there as well as some other notable historical people. During the warmer weather, there is a reenactment of Patrick Henry's ' Give me liberty or give me death' speech inside the church. It's a must-see!

Yeah, I’ve been wanting to go to St. John’s for a while now. Going to try and make it happen this year!

Also, the Valentine History Museum! I was married there 20 years ago because it’s always been such a favorite place to visit as a history buff!

One of the coolest things they did was during the summer they would have an "Unhappy Hour". Local duo playing music, wine and creepy named games. The back courtyard was cool at night.

    True Poe Ghost Incounter
In Baltimore I went to the Poe house/museum to hear some of his stories read & went upstairs -- although there were no sgins saying not too-- one is probably not really supposed to go there.
Anyway-- as I stood in the upstairs doorway a young lady was talking out loud to herself stated how much she hated to read Poe's stories out loud -- then a window shutter that was on the floor leaning on a wall suddenly few up & the girl screamed & ducked and the shutter slammed against the wall as the girl still screaming ran down the stairs and out of the house.
I stood there and spoke outloud of how much I enjoyed his stories & thanked him for letting me hear some while being in his home.
I latter found out that the girl had her last chrck mailed to her because she wouldn't go back.
The VA hospital is right across from St. John's church & the burial ground where Nr. Poe & family members are buried. He's there by the front entrance and then if you walk around the church to the left you'll see where he was originally buried.
On the way you can stop and look into a grave-- a hole in the ground & see some coffins and a hammock. If you say;" Hello"-- sometimes you'll see the hammock move back & forth.

@ It’s a great museum and well worth the visit for any Poe fan! His room at UVA on the Lawn is also preserved as it would have been in his day.

Hey Chris!! So you mentioned Poe moved from Boston to Richmond. But you don't mention....so just filling on some other facts. (you may know this but not have included it in the video due to time. LOL).Poe was one of my obsessions as a Eng. Lit teacher and I heard one of the most fascinating lectures I've ever heard that theorized the connections between his life and writings. While Edgar Allen Poe didn't officially move to Richmond until 1820, with is "foster family" his mother was performing Juliet in repertory in Richmond at the time of her death. This lecturer theorized that one of the reasons Poe's poetry and fiction writing seems to be sometimes highly focused and centered on a women in death, lying in a tomb, or coming back from the dead is that from his birth until he was age 3, his mother was performing as Juliet and with her husband having abandoned her, she took her children to the theatre with her for both rehearsal and performances. She died of tuberculosis and it is my understanding that Poe was lying in bed with her at her death.

Oh wow, it was put deep into his subconscience maybe. Very interesting! They say that those who experienced childhood adversity have more intense creative experiences. Thanks for watching! If I can make it up to his home in Philadelphia or New York I’ll have to consult with you first. lol

He was one messed up dude! - so much suffering and substance abuse. Too bad his extraordinary talent wasn’t widely appreciated while he was alive. Good place to visit for Halloween too, kinda creepy😬
