- Massive thanks too Mr Blick for giving me and my mom (of course I brought my mom along for this one) a tour of this stunning place. In southern Virginia the Blick plantation was built most likely around the mid to late 1700’s. It features a cornucopia of unique architectural features and designs that you would never find in homes of today. The whole home is constructed from huge timbers joined by wooden dowels, no nails needed for that. This marvel of architectural engineering sat vacant for nearly half a century before being found and purchased by the 8th generation of the family. Mr Blick now plans to restore and preserve the home. Huge thank you to Mr. blick for giving me and my madre a tour. Listen to his incredible story and learn about the unique construction of this home and the families who walked its walls. Please consider checking out Mr Blicks Facebook, UA-cam channel and donating to help with the funding too save this incredible old place. Thanks for watching.

My family has 3 Cool
Kappy, this place knocks the socks of of any exploration that you have ever done. Stunning and beautiful beyond beautiful, the magnificent of this is impeccably amazing. Sometimes when people don't understand how beautiful and amazing something is they retreat because they just don't understand. I am so thankful that you shared this with us, you definitely understand true beauty.
@@urbanexploringwithkappy1773 where are y'all, im outside Fayetteville NC,
What an odd experience this is for me. My Uncle Floyd and his family changed their last name from Bleistien (not sure on the spelling) to Block during World War 2. I believe they did that is because my Uncle Floyd was a spy for what is now known as the CIA and they were Jewish. Also, I have family (dad's side) that came over to Virginia from Scotland. My nephew and I think that the town of Bohannon is named after our family. Maybe... Maybe not. Who knows?
Thank you! Please donate to this great renovation project folks!
Imagine building a home & even for a moment, thinking your descendants will be living in it 300yrs later. Total respect to Mr Blick for taking this on.
@@OhGawdHesGotAGun Just incredible! Loved his story! Bit of a change up from my usual videos, my apologies for being a poor interviewer! I’m learning still lol thank you for watching! :)
You were great and very knowledgeable. @@urbanexploringwithkappy1773
They built them back then with the intention of their family living in it for hundreds of years. That's how England is/was
@@urbanexploringwithkappy1773 It was a great interview, actually. Especially for the format. You asked the right questions, you let them both speak & provide detail, the camera work was great - a topic came up, the zoom took us where the story went.
@@NoneofYourbusiness-j8x It must have been a bit of a shock for British immigrants, especially for that time. For about 400yrs (I think?), homes in, say, London were made from stone & brick, and space was a premium. Now they arrive to the new world, and it's like "yes, Mr Blick, build it as big as you like. By the way, it's 3 days by horse & buggy to your nearest neighbor!". My Irish ancestors landed in Halifax during the famine (1848 they arrived, starving & broke), and the journals of some spoke of the vast property a man could get if they agreed to farm it. Some of them went to PEI (Prince Edward Island), and ironically grew potatoes. Best potatoes in the world, apparently. Canada's of course massive. I bet after their first winter here they were wondering if County Monaghan was really so bad, haha.
Finally, one of these magnificent old homes will be restored and not trashed and torn down.
@@KarenRodriguez-bi7ft Yes I’ve not done one like this since homeplace plantation in New Orleans! Thank you for watching!! :)
Should b illegal 2 destroy our history..❤
Oh wow! I am slowly watching all your videos. But, I didn’t get to this one yet though. So, I can’t wait.
@@sandyfields678 Well, very sad cause democrats have torn some history down. Should not have happen !!! Should make law to be illegal & and not be changed .
@@sandyfields678 that's a stupid thing to say... all home and structures eventually outlive their usefulness. NYC was torn down several times to rebuild bigger and better.
You have to go back to that house when it's restored to see the finished product
Wow Kappy to have a descendant of the home come back and take such joy in their Heritage and explain what they found is absolutely amazing ❤

What a refreshing charming heartwarming video!! After seeing countless lost abandoned and forgotten homes… this house is still being loved and appreciated!! His forefathers would be so proud of this gentleman!!!
He needs to contact the show Our Restoration Nation. They would love this house and may be able to help get grants to return it to its true beauty🤗❤️
Laine and Kevin would definitely have some tips for the Blicks for getting this house fixed up and restored in the best possible way.
Definitely!!
Idk about that
This house is very very far gone
It’s precious to this man but only becuz it’s his family’s
@@YeshuaKingMessiahgo learn something about homes built during this time in the north. You clearly don't know much.
@ I clearly do but u clearly dont
Virginia old house buff here, as soon as I saw the opening picture I said that's a Virginia house. What a wonderful piece of history and connection Mr. Blick has back to his ancestors and the land. Having restored my early 19th century Virginia house, I mixed up my share of lime plaster and to repair walls and lime mortar to repoint stone foundations, hunted wavy bubble glass at salvage yards to reglaze windows and bought up square nails where ever I saw them for floor and moulding repairs. Mr. Blick has some backbreaking but rewarding work ahead, I look forward to following. Thanks for sharing Kappy!
I thought the same. Southern Virginia Native here. We know our historic homes.
My brother in law lives in Maclean, Virginia. We visited him last month and I was absolutely fascinated by the Civil War era wooden sided house on the corner of his street that had been restored and designated a historical site. It was painted light yellow with white trim. Even the cellar and a small outbuilding were preserved. Loved it.
Somewhat unrelated to this, but in the last few years I discovered that I’ve had family living in the Northern Neck of Virginia since at least the 1630s. That’s also where I’m from, so I think that’s cool.
Lots of old properties in Lancaster County. The land I inherited from my dad is subdivided from a home built in the 1700s, and I’m pretty sure that home owner got his land from the home owner across the highway because that house dates to the 1600s.
I am a Virginia native. I love seeing our history preserved. Thank you to the Blick family for caring. Can’t wait to see the progress.
Only way you are going to keep and preserve VA history is to keep it Republican !
Me too. All my family descend from original early virginia. I still reside here too in suffolk, virginia
@@tedm4932Actually it should be a museum of our dark history and give funding to HBCU’s in Virginia.
Nope. You're not native to the US
@@RichardAttenborough-v5lwho is native to the US anyways? By your logic the only true natives anywhere in the world are in Africa (if the out of Africa theory is even true). Considering yourself “native” when you have 7-8 generations of history in an area isn’t that insane of an idea. That’s a hell of a lot more than most Americans today. Maybe we should come together and try to preserve native, European, and African history in America instead of bitching and complaining about white people. For better or for worse, Europeans have had the most impact on this country.
I hope Mr. Blick’s children and grandchildren will appreciate and love this home as much as him and his father…incredible history, amazing home!
I would be completely over the moon if I found my family house like this gentleman did. It’s unbelievable that the house is still standing. The wood hasn’t rotted and the glasses are broken and been vandalized. Just exciting to view some history and family history. Would love to see the series of restoration.
Wishing Mr. Blick plenty of patience for dealing with the historic society. Glad that he has the excitement and means to do this project.
Let Mr. Blick know that there are websites that specialize in reproduction antique hardware. I found rose head/square nails, door hinges, doorknobs, latch escutcheons, light switches and plates, and more, for my build.
WOW! What an amazing home, and I'm extremely pleased to see it has gone back to the original family again. Congratulations Mr. Blick!
What a mind blowing family story and tour! I can’t believe how exciting it must have been for Mr Blick to find the family home! Thank you so much Mr Blick and Kappy for this amazing opportunity!!!!!!
Yes, let’s make sure to honour the folks who enslaved another hey?
I HOPE the family acknowledges much more than “lesser known history of the enslaved people” that I read about in the article for the property/family. They would not have it if not for others suffering. Beautiful architecture with an awful history within.
That house looks so much better inside than I expected 😮 what a treasure ❤
Beautiful old house. Amazing that he found it and bought it back. Glad it will be protected and restored. Thanks Kappy!
Wow that was so exciting! thank you Mr Blick for showing us your house and cemetery. I am so glad this place will not be lost.! I 'll say this before I check his information but I truly hope you are metal detecting the property. Kappy your interview was awesome!

300 years old and still more structurally sound than the modern million dollar built houses ! Amazing !
Hardwood properly seasoned before construction.
We had a house built in the late 90s and along the way our builder said it would last only 100 years. I was absolutely shocked to hear that. $1 million home, as stated above, that won’t last a century. 😢
Being balloon framed, the structural wood is probably 30’ long. Using the trees surrounding the site makes that possible.
The bones on this house are great. I am typing this from a late 1800s house I remodeled in Alabama. Most of the house was gutted when I got it but the framing was incredibly solid. Floors are 100+ years old
Truth!
Kappy, you are my favorite Video Grapher of abandoned houses. You always take care when you are in the houses and very respectful. I think you are a wonderful person!
Kappy is very conscientious when he is exploring, and quiet. I have to stop watching other explorers who don't replace objects correctly and who stomp around the premises.

Thanks Kappy. So glad to see an historic home being carefully cared for and carefully going to be restored. Especially by the original family that would have owned the home. This should be a tutorial for anyone interested in saving a part of our history.
Thanks to the Blink family and Kappy. Amazing story and history all over this beautiful home.
A ton of work ahead, but how fantastic that this piece of history will be saved. Thanks, Kappy!
It's sooooooo WONDERFUL to see one of these amazing homes saved, and not only just saved but saved by someone whose ancestors built it. AMAZING full circle.
I wish Mr. Blick all the best and appreciate his desire to save his family's history.
This old historic home is absolutely amazing! The craftsmanship from that era is incredible. I’m so happy that the home is back in the family where it belongs. Loved hearing the family history and knowing the house will be preserved. Thanks to Mr Blick for sharing it with us. Glad you took your mom along on this one Kappy, what a treat. Thanks for sharing these beautiful old homes with us and as always, stay safe out there! ❤️
This is a "best of" video right here. You add background information on every house, but so much more context is given here, it's fascinating to hear the history from a descendant. To me, videos like this are better than a big budget Hollywood movie because this is real. You can touch the history and feel the connection to the past and see the pride in the present generation for their family legacy. I hope mister Blick sweeps the grounds with a metal detector because there are certainly small treasures to be found around this absolutely amazing house. The well probably holds some artifacts too. Thank you Kappy and a special thanks to the Blick family for their commitment to historical preservation.
Thank you
Dude, you got your work cut out for you. My family came to SWPa in 1682 , I live 12 miles from the original homestead and remainer of the Porter Farm. But that house has always been occupied by Porter's so it has been maintained well. I renovated my home built in 1864, but had been inhabited by one family, the Dillingers, generationally. But it required a lot of work, and had been chincy with 70s style. I put in mantles and replaced every wall , ceiling and floor, roof, and cement porches, built closets, moved doorways and windows and sided it. Landscaped, Took me 50 years to restore and maintain. I love it.
Amazing house, Mr. Blick is very fortunate to find his family home. To find it in such good condition is a blessing. I wish him happy years of restoring his property. Thanks, Kappy and Happy New Year
@@user-randi1987 Agreed! Considering it spent nearly half a century abandoned like he said! Thank you for the kind words and watching!! :)

You can tell he is so excited and proud about telling the stories of this home and also proud to have it back . Wish I was there .
This house is typical of its period. The framing style is called a Timber Frame. This is also possibly called a Hall and parlor house. The linoleum was likely called called Linoleum Carpet in the nineteenth century. Mainly a soybean oil and burlap product.
What a wonderful old house. Makes me glad to see it has been saved and will be returned to use and beauty again.

A great video to start 2025 ❤
Kappy, you’ve outdone yourself with this one, let me tell you..
How deeply satisfying for Mr. Blick, to have been able to purchase his ancestral home. Just love how he has it decorated with all the historical family photos. This has got to be your most riveting explore so far, Kappy. Thank you so much for this gift!
Ive traced my family back to the 1660s and every time i trace one of the houses,it's gone. Our revolutionary war ordinary was the lsst survivor, pulled down unphotographed in the 60s. The Blick family are blessed to have this amazing piece of family history back, im so happy for them and hopeful for the house's future.
I also trace my family in America to the 1600's. They first settled in what later became Braintree, Massachusetts, then somewhere in Pennsylvania, took flatboats down to Kentucky, and finally settled in Indiana. I don't know if any of the original homes are still standing, or where they originally were located. My ancestors faught in the Revolutionary War. They were given a land grant when they first arrived, so there is likely a record of that. Would love to be able to check into it more.
An amazing home with an amazing history. This is real Americana.

Fascinating, Kappy and Mr. Blick. Thank you for sharing so much history!
Beautiful house! As a retired architect who loves early American architecture this place is a gem. I would begin renovation with an engineer’s review for any shoring or underpinning that may benefit the foundation. The term “beam” is misleading for more helpful words such as posts, rafters, joists, summers, etc. Thanks for the show. Best of luck.
I’m surprised the foundation hasn’t been stabilized and the roof hasn’t been addressed- though the swept out rooms look nice. Both projects are so costly, but I also know how helpful writing for a historic grant could be for a gem like this.
@@joannjoy5864really? Clearly you don’t get it then. The roof is addressed. It’s solid and intact. The foundation is solid and has a couple of spots that will be addressed in time. I have a triage list and do what I can when I can. I don’t need you triaging my list when you haven’t invested a cent into the nonprofit or my family finances. Smh
@@joannjoy5864notice out of hundreds of comments you’re the ONLY one criticizing what I’ve done or not done based on your timeline and your personal triage list
