Miss Dennis, but I've gotta say JY did a FANTASTIC job with these very difficult (Dennis DeYoung part) vocals... I've seen Styx in concert many times, through many phases (anyone remember Dr. Robato?) and there was one night in particular that was stunning - a double bill with Kansas... both bands ROCKED better than I've ever seen either band before or since!
I saw them at the Gorge in George, Wa.with Kansas. Tommy Shaw made a comment about never have they had a more beautiful backdrop then the sun going down behind the band
you ARE mistaken. James Young (who is singing the song here) co-wrote it with DDY. He has been in the band since before they got a record contract. Tommy Shaw was not ON equinox, but joined the band for the tour. Chuck still tours with them on occasion but cannot commit full time due to his illness.
Named my daughter after this song- tells me I can only play it on her birthday now. Took her to see Styx a few years ago and of course they didn't play the song.
My dad was stationed in Germany and named me this famous story of "The Loreley". Google it and read up about it. The story about "The Loreley", lives on in Opera!
I've been to a lot of concerts myself the best was definitely Pink Floyd at Texas stadium in 1994 but I have to say the best I have ever seen as far as not using any props or anything like that just raw true talent is Styx

I know James Young was in the original Styx, first 3 albums, Serpent is Rising, Equinox (had this song), Earl of Rosewood?, I forget but I had them all, best Styx before the popular Styx took over. But didn't he leave the band, or did he always stay. What a great guitarist.
JY never left Styx. The first four LP's--Styx I and Styx II, The Serpent is Rising, and Man of Miracles, all on Wooden Nickel before Tommy joined. Equinox was their first album on A&M and the fifth total. Tommy joined right after Equinox was released, for the tour, but wasn't actually on it. But I disagree that these albums are the best. During their heyday, I found numerous STYX albums very listenable start to finish, they are all good songs (ok I skip "First Time" on Cornerstone) very good album oriented music. The first four albums have bright spots and a few songs I like. But not one of those four albums is good enough as an album for me to want to hear the whole thing like I do for Equinox, Grand Illusion, Pieces of Eight, Cornerstone, and Paradise Theater. Increased production resources at A&M is one reason the albums improved. Songwriting skill also took an upturn about this time, and the final reason Styx improved so drastically around this time is that Tommy joined the band.
I am not here to correct you,but even if what you say is true, does it matter? Is this not a great show of things that are exciting to those that experience what the song is portraying? even if the original authors are gone, doesn't the spirit live on?
Mark desormeau ~ I don't know who you were originally commenting to, but JY was co-writer of this track... So technically, he has every right to sing it as well...
JY and Tommy Shaw are *superb* secondary singer/songwriters to complement Dennis DeYoung, but with no Dennis, Styx to me is like a meal consisting of all side dishes and no main course. I'll save my money and go see Dennis instead....
@@chrispybattyone5937 Of course not. But I've seen Dennis without them and he was superb. I got what I went for and was not disappointed in the least. Would it have been better with Tommy and JY there? Of course! But I dug it and never felt like "it's just not as good without Tommy and JY." Styx without Dennis? Seen that too and did feel something was missing. I'd go see Dennis again and again (had tix to seem him this past July but was CL'd due to COVID). Styx.... I just have no desire to see again (unless/until they get Dennis back). That's me though.
That's Correct, here's an interesting item.They-Styx-wanted Tommy Shaw in a bad kinda way. After they signed Tommy they Rerecorded Lady just so he would be part of it......JY and TS still ROCK !
It was 20 years after Tommy joined and they rerecorded it to get around legal problems with Wooden Nickel records who had released the original. All other Styx hits were on A&M records. They did not redo it simply so Tommy could be in the recording, but of course that is a side benefit.
They re-recorded Lady 20 years after they signed Tommy. It was already a hit. Tommy didn't need to go through the lean years of touring bars and playing every prom in the Chicago area.
It needs Dennis’ voice. Even Tommy would be better. Sometimes you just cannot accept a song that you’ve grown up with being done one certain way, then changing a key part of the song such as the vox. In my head, that does not compute well. The song is perfect and brilliantly executed. My preference over rides my ability to overlook the changes.
I love styxs corporate Rock forever baby I know it's no Dennis DeYoung but I will have to make do until maybe one day they can patch things up and work together again Long live
Never got tired of seeing these guys. Always a great show.
JY has to be the coolest cat ever in rock music. His face never changes, he nails the vocals, and absolutely shreds that Strat.

Wasn't it Mr and Dr. Roboto?
Really, I thought he sounded rough. Gowan probably would have done better.
Mr Roboto.... Domo Arigato, Mr Roboto. Thank you very much, Mr Roboto.
I saw them at the Gorge in George, Wa.with Kansas. Tommy Shaw made a comment about never have they had a more beautiful backdrop then the sun going down behind the band
Love this.its James..love,judy
I got to say, one of the best live bands
My Favorite Styx Song

THE MOST UNDERRATED ROCK & ROLL BAND IN ROCK N ROLL HISTORY!!!😎🤟🤘🤙✌️🥁

I love these guys, they sure know how to rock.
Seen these guys a few times and they are a great band. This song in my 68 Stang and slamming down the gas pedal. Yes Sir
Cool visual image with verbal attitude at the end. That's what made this one a good comment among lots of generic attempts surrounding it.
I love Tommy's shirt in this video!!! ;)
The keyboard intro and right away you know what song is coming.
such a beautiful song! i want to name my child after this!
Love this band!
I named my son after this song....he is still hunting me.
snottydyck why would you give your son a female name
🤣👌
Haven’t you heard “ a boy named sue”?
@@somehowsentientspork: Whoosh!
I don’t blame him 😂😂
Traditional grip & rockin' it... Buddy Rich woulda been proud!
That's what I loved about Styx they had more than 1 vocalist.
I can say I have seen a lot of shows over the years. The best was Styx.in Nashville in 1978
Ĥear the diff between the strat and the tele. And there both are fenders. That cool...

JY is actually an awesome guitarist in his own right
A fan of this song. It actually sounds better with this live version. Great bass.
That is some very powerful drumming.
Ever seen styx ? The best show ever.

My dad was stationed in Germany and named me this famous story of "The Loreley". Google it and read up about it. The story about "The Loreley", lives on in Opera!
Lorelei Hilz
Yea, I'm here.
I've been to a lot of concerts myself the best was definitely Pink Floyd at Texas stadium in 1994 but I have to say the best I have ever seen as far as not using any props or anything like that just raw true talent is Styx
This song was written for Bachman Turner overdrive 's daughter..loreli Bachman..
Hey, both bands are from the G.W.N. (Canada for the uninitiated). I'd Guess (Who)--lol!-- it was Randy Bachman's girl. Anyone know?
I named my daughter after this song...

Best elite 4 member to be fair
I kind of like this version best. =] Love this song!
I've missed you all and I have been very lonely.
weloveyouband
The best version is by Dennis.
merci pour votre partage mais pourquoi la Lorelei ??
tommy shaw and jy were are and always will be styx nothing else needs to be said
Lorelei was my mom
I love JY voice in Lorelei...
Spooky how great these 80 year olds play.
I'm feeling a little bit uneasy. babies due in about a month
Is that Todd Sucherman on drums?
What happens at 1:19 ? The sound suddenly changes.
This is the one song that Dennis originally sang that measures up to the original.
Doesn t measure up at all.
DISCLAIMER; THIS IS "NOT" STYX ,...( No Dennis )
Kinda lyk it 🤩 0:51
Need the vocals of Dennis........

I confused them with REO Speedwagon
My daughter’s name is Lorelai.
So thats two daughters? ;o)
Wait?
Where is Dennis, oh ya, still not too shabby but,
Pay the man
Good to see this live but music quality is not that great on this video
This is one of those songs that you love to hate like Don't Stop Believing by Journey
+Joey Ciccotti Why?
Lol shut the fuck up. The audience clearly liked it.
true but when DDY would sing this song, JY would take over on keyboard. So having Gowan and JY sing, is pretty much the same thing.
I miss DDY..but this ain't half bad ..my daughter is named for this tune ..she's 37 now..lol
You simply cant hang with Dennis DeYoung.
I brought the Equinox album and this is not up to par.
Old hippie music
I think he has 5 Daughter to Mrs Palmer....
not the same without Dennis D Young

And without Tommy and James, it won’t be the same either

bring back the real singer

its a jy / ddy song
No Dennis No Styx
Sorry, its not the same without DDY.. Never will be no matter what they call themselves...
It's not the same without Dennis singing it, but it's still great!
Not even close to Dennis.
You all sound like Carl from Aqua Teen. Lmfao!
Decent cover band.

No dennis deyoung and john panozzo = I’m not interested.
No offense JY, but let Gowan do this one.
I clicked on this one and was thankful Gowan didn't ruin this one for me.
ok...but not the original.
123456789
here's one gowan should be singing.
impressive how juvenile this crap is and how wonderful it must be for their fans.
His voice Sucks is not even mediocre. The background voices re better closer to the Record.
No styx with out Dennis DeYoung
Not the Styx I grew up with...
JY sounds like poop
Not STYX, No Dennis
Yuck
I love styxs corporate Rock forever baby I know it's no Dennis DeYoung but I will have to make do until maybe one day they can patch things up and work together again Long live
