  • So having upgraded to rear Sumo Springs on my Adria Twin Fiat Ducato Van • How to Upgrade to Sumo... and then upgraded to double leaf springs • Double Leaf Spring Upg... the van was raked from the back towards the front so I decided to instal the front Sumo Springs to help balance it out. Having test driven the vehicle after the instal the combination of front and rear Sumo Springs with the double leaf springs works well together in my opinion. It gives a much better less heavy feeling van with the additional bonus of adding a bit more clearance under the vehicle. I purchased the front springs from Amazon SuperSprings CSS-1195 | Coil... www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B009JC42J...

    That should do the job for a stage one lift/ upgrade. Will also help on the spring rebound on multiple bumps. Its good for the van to sit level for sleeping and to stop the sliding door closing on you. Good Job !

    Well I did the sumosprings on the back ,the yellow sumo bumpstops and can confess it's rubbish!
    All the comfort gone and I ended up wisely by upgrading the whole suspension front and back with Koni fsd shock absorbers, VB heavy and longer springs in front and in the back VB helping springs.
    It drives like a Rolls-Royce compared with the harshness before.
    In my view and honest opinion, sumo is not a solution and yes,my option is a investment, but it's a investment that finishes the ride and handling as it's supposed to be,no regrets and a comfortable ride as supposed to be!

      Thanks for your comments. Sounds like you have a good set up now. I think the SUMOs on the rear do work regarding stability and body roll but your set up goes further. Did you leave the SUMOs on? I upgraded my rear leaf springs and did consider upgraded front springs and shocks front and rear but maybe at a later date. Sounds like you have a good system now 👍

      @Nick Harper hii Nick!
      No I ditched the Sumosprings and that was a necessity in order to fit the springs in the back,the springs ar fitted at the same place as the bumpstops and can only be fitted with the original bumpstops in place.
      You are correct that the Sumosprings delete the body role and that was about the only positive I got about the Sumosprings.
      My setup now is a basic setup, next step would be air suspension, but for me this setup will do now,I got ground clearance and spring travel / comfort and great stability now.
      First I was thinking too upgrade my leafsprings too a double heavy duty setup,I didn't and looking back now it wasn't necessary,but from your perspective I think heavier leafsprings is a good starting point to begin with,the only downside I can come up with is that leafsprings could be a bit harsh,what's your take on the heavier leafsprings?
      Goodluck Nick,like you content!
      Keep it up!

      Putting on the double leaf springs did improve my ride. It gave more ground clearance and the the SUMOs are not constantly under load as they were before so don’t make constant contact which does improve the ride. The van doesn’t feel like it’s fully loaded anymore which is good. I’m happy with my setup for now but I’m aware better shocks would make it even better but that’s for the future. Thanks for the comments.

      Hi I assume you are talking about Lone wolfs setup using VB helper springs and KONI FSD shocks. The best thing to do would be to have a look at KONI website and the VB one.

    Hi Nick, I am doing very similar to my Accent with the sumo rear dampers, I am thinking of changing the wheel & tyres & fitting BF goodrich tyres, did you have any issues with the tpms valves and tyre pressure as I read it is a good idea to run a lower pressue? Verygood informative footage Nick!

      Thanks for the comments Mark. I didn’t have TPMS valves fitted but I would have thought it would be a problem. If you phone Elite wheels and tyres they will be able to advise you I’m sure as they seem to know their stuff

    Thanks Nick although it was difficult to see what you were doing once the Sumo was in place. I'm guessing you just keep turning it until it reaches the top of the spring?

      @nickharper6436  Рік тому

      Hi James, it was just getting the final bit ie the lip over the spring and then as you say moving it into position. It is best placed in the middle of the spring. Thank for your comments

    Hi Nick - liking the videos, keep them coming. Can I ask how did you determine what size front Sumo Springs to order? Did you measure the relaxed spring before ordering to establish which product reference to order? I am thinking of doing the same and want to check before ordering. Hope to hear. Many thanks, Nick Cooke 👍

    • @nickharper6436
      @nickharper6436  Рік тому

      Thanks for the positive comments Nick. I didn’t measure the gap in the relaxed spring but went for the 1195 as was on Rhodes Vans and recommended for the Fiat Ducato. Also saw some other UA-camrs fitting the same size. On the sumosprings website it also recommended that size from memory or maybe for the ram promaster which is essentially the same as the Ducato. Hope that helps

    Great vids! I’m considering doing sumo and/or double leaf springs on my 640. I’m mostly interested in ride smoothness over bumps and poor roads - will it help, or does the extra firmness make it similar/worse? Maybe I should look at tires first?

    • @nickharper6436
      @nickharper6436  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for the comments Kris. I would try the BFG tyres first as they can be run at a lower pressure than the originals due to a stronger tyre wall. All in all with my set up now it runs a lot smoother but handles much better too which was important to me. I’d like to get in a stock van now as I’m sure I’d notice a big difference !

      Hi, the auto gearbox has been great and I’ve had no problems at all. It’s very smooth. The older auto gearbox wasn’t as good apparently. I think that was called a comfortmatic gear box. The new one is 9 speed and I’m very happy with it

    Sumo say's their springs won't lift the vehicle. Update on the height?

    • @nickharper6436
      @nickharper6436  10 місяців тому

      Yes Sumo are right. The springs front and rear aren’t designed as a lift kit but by default do raise the van slightly front and rear. The main benefit is the stability it gives the van. Cornering is much better with less body roll etc.

      Hi these are the ones I purchased from Amazon the fronts are:
      SuperSprings CSS-1195 | Coil SumoSprings for various applications | 1.95 inch inner wall height, Black
      And the rear are Supersprings SSR-313-54 SumoSprings

    Do they do much

    • @nickharper6436
      @nickharper6436  10 місяців тому

      Yes they do but they are expensive for what they are. So with the rear Sumo’s and the double leaf springs this lifted the van at the back bit I did notice a bit of roll on long sweeping roads ie going onto motorways etc. the front Sumos have helped and all in all I’m happy with the van now and it doesn’t lean like it used to.
