It hurts to read some of the comments from single people here. As a single, I totally understand the battle against lust. We who don't have a spouse have no pure means of participating in the good intimacy that God created. So what must we do? Behold Christ as better than everything, including sex. One day we will be with Him in eternity and there will be no marriage or sex. We will be united to Him in a union that far surpasses the best union we could have in this life. Cling to that hope! Cling to Him. Pour out your heart and your struggle to Him for He cares for you. Though you may be single, you are never alone. He is with you.
Matthew 5:28 has had a profound impact for me recently when considering that the "adultery" Jesus is speaking of is vertical. I think, beyond tactics, we have to remember that the primary force that breaks inclinations to lean into lustful temptation is a Spirit-empowered REGARD and instinct to honor the triune God. I won't be faithful to my wife because I imagine her being gored by the "spear of my lust", but rather, I'll be faithful because of the devastation she'll experience once discovering my unfaithfulness. And this pales in comparison to what it means to grieve the Spirit. Ultimately, love is not perfect in our flesh, but by the power of the Spirit, through the renewal of the mind, love progressively increases in faithfulness to the covenants we have (primary being our covenant with God, and for those with spouses, the marriage covenant).
2 Corinthians 10 v 3-5 learn these words from the scripture by heart ..and repeat these verses when lustful thoughts come ,till the lustful thoughts go away .the Word of God is living ....works for me everytime God bless
I overcame or was set free from lust graciously by the Lord when I started observing the Old Testament instruction from Leviticus 15 in light of the New Testament, when a male has an issue or discharge from his flesh! Of course now I know I was set free in this by the Holy Spirit which gives life to our mortal bodies to overcome. May the grace of the Lord Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus Christ) be with your spirit

The definition and penalty for sin is clear in the OT laws, and of these Christ followed perfectly in the underlying heart or principle of (hence healing on the Sabbath is loving, which is the law of liberty, in James, to do good). Christ came to fulfill the law and prophets, not abolish them in Matt 5:17. According to Paul, the law is powerless because it cannot save but only condemn, yet it still has value. Gal 3:10-26 explains the purpose of the OT law. Living by Mosaic law to honor God is not anti-Pauline, but as a means of meriting righteousness is anti-Pauline. In our freedom (from sin), we live as God's slaves as a new creature, which is the idea in Romans 6:19. Hopefully this is clear and helpful!

What helps me is to sing scripture and hymns about Christ's death and resurrection, about my freedom, about His great love, about how satisfaction only comes from him. ("Like LOrd you are more precious than silver / And nothing I desire compares with thee." or "I belong to Jesus, free from sin by Dennis Jernigan). It's helpful for me with hymns b/c music goes straight to my heart, and God " inhabits the praise of His people" (Psalms 22:3).

Purity is only attained when you can be surrounded with every form of temptation and yet remain untouched by desire, unmoved by earthly feelings, untainted by earthly lusts, free of craving and longing for possession. Purity in its every form transcends all earthly physical hungers. Purity is the ability to see temptation for what it is-grossness of thought and feeling which traps the senses of men and women into doing unclean things. A truly pure person desires only the clean and honest environment suited to their innate longing for unconditional love and beauty of self expression in every facet of their lives. That is Purity. However, purity cannot be achieved unless there have first been the long years of temptation. It is a necessary part of our spiritual development; unless we have been sorely tempted at times, and have eventually come to understand that there is a higher road to walk, a road of self-denial, and of sincere concern and caring for a good woman, we will never attain the state of purity.

I thought I purged Lust from my life. However, every so often I have temptations to go back to it. I even get thoughts of justifying going out to do fornication or watching sexual material on my cell. I would like to get to the point where I stop completely.
I've had minor issues with lust. But something happened to me that made me see it for what it is. I was touched inappropriately by a co-worker and that experience made me feel sub-human. Like an object almost. It made me wonder if the subject of my lustful thoughts would feel the same way. Or worse. Let's remember that people are valuable in God's sight. They've got hopes and dreams, they've felt heartache and pain. Just like you. They're someone's mother, father, brother, sister etc. Just remember someone's humanity. Hope this helps someone.

Piper was a single man at some point, subject to the same temptations as us. Truth is truth, regardless of the mouthpiece, but I do believe his words ring true. If we can't defeat sexual sin because we've not been changed to value Christ above all else, it needs to be the focus, so that Christ is above all else in our hearts. Christ is above all in the world; why would our hearts be different?

Christ came to fulfill the law and prophets, not abolish them in Matt 5:17. According to Paul, the law is powerless because it cannot save but only condemn, yet it still has value. Gal 3:10-26 explains the purpose of the OT law. Living by Mosaic law to honor God is not anti-Pauline, but as a means of meriting righteousness is anti-Pauline. In our freedom (from sin), we live as God's slaves as a new creature, which is the idea in Romans 6:19.

What helps me is to sing scripture and hymns about Christ's death and resurrection, about my freedom, about His great love, about how satisfaction only comes from him. ("Like LOrd you are more precious than silver / And nothing I desire compares with thee." or "I belong to Jesus, free from sin by Dennis Jernigan). It's helpful for me with hymns b/c music goes straight to my heart, and God " inhabits the praise of His people" (Psalms 22:3).

I've had minor issues with lust. But something happened to me that made me see it for what it is.
I was touched inappropriately by a co-worker and that experience made me feel sub-human. Like an object almost. It made me wonder if the subject of my lustful thoughts would feel the same way. Or worse.
Let's remember that people are valuable in God's sight. They've got hopes and dreams, they've felt heartache and pain. Just like you. They're someone's mother, father, brother, sister etc.
Just remember someone's humanity.

Piper was a single man at some point, subject to the same temptations as us. Truth is truth, regardless of the mouthpiece, but I do believe his words ring true. If we can't defeat sexual sin because we've not been changed to value Christ above all else, it needs to be the focus, so that Christ is above all else in our hearts. Christ is above all in the world; why would our hearts be different?
