If you're using the clutch claw, you can tenderize Kirin's body to essentially nullify its defensive aura in that your attacks won't bounce even if they're below white sharpness. It's nice to be able to whack it in case you're having trouble hitting his teeny tiny little head.
Thanks for the comment on this! I was trying to find the right time to mention the clutch claw as it’s quite the game changer. I’ll definitely bring it up in one of the upcoming videos, especially as we approach Iceborne!

Pre-Rajang Shatterhorn quest be like 'HEARD YOU TALKING MAD S@&^ FOR SOMEONE IN GREASED LIGHTNING RANGE' and worse still you're in the Reach fighting in thick snow. Thick snow that sometimes hides where the lightning's about to fall.

Amazing to see you back making these again man! Just a small tip, the hunter notes can be misleading af, it's better to look at the actual hitzones for each monster because a lot of monsters have weak points that change over a fight (Anjanath's legs are an example)

As a glaive main I just imagine Kirin and I glaring at each other as I vault over it since it’s so freaking small.
I remember the biggest struggle for me in this hunt wasn't actually the monster itself, it was that most of the arenas that we fight 'em in are just so... small, especially since they have so many AoE abilities.
That's why i use bow, it's far easier fighting kirin without worrying bouncing attack and at safe distances

An actually interestingly good build is a sticky bowgun build. While hitting the head is harder because of how small it is, if you can get him to get stunned once or knocked down (which is actually kind of easy), you can send a bunch of stickies to his face. Kirin gets knocked around a lot by stickies from my experience.

...Tempered Kirin, the bane of my hunting career. The PTSD that I developed over my many, many....MANY tries haunts me to this day.
Kirin is the absolute biggest POS and i say that despite just reaching Safi'Jiiva and Alatreon. My hatred for Kirin eclipses my sizable hatred for Furious Rajang. I'd rather fight 3 Namielles or Velkhanas than go through that perma enraged hornless Kirin again
Best reliable way to kill this electric sexy pony is with your best raw damage weapon (Great Sword: Wyvern Ignition Impact is the best option) and Critical Draw Lv. 3, oc try to reach affinity 0% so you can make 100% Critical damage everytime you unsheathe your weapon. Any other defense skills oc it helps. Good luck hunters!👍

Guard Up Lance can block basically everything it has, so for all the pain it put hunters through in the past, feels good to have IT be the powerless one for a change
(At least in Low/High Rank, I'll be honest I unfortunately dont have much MHW MR experience just due to lack of time to play or other games taking my time)
Notes from an IG main:Kirin is a NIGHTMARE to fight with glaive for 2 reasons:
1)They are small, so you do not have a lot to glaive off of.
2)The lightning acts as very good anti-air countermeasures.
Some people: Lightning doesn't strike in the same place twice

for some funny reason, the stun on sticky gunner works really well you can stun Kirin more often even if it is just 1 weird star.

you can't trap kirin because its an elder dragon YES IT IS HORSE but remember KIRIN--> like in Mythology its a dragon that looks like a horse so its an elder dragon
This is one of the elder fights where I *genuinely* recommend utilizing elder seal.
Even without a dragon element weapon, Kirin drops dragon pods from tenderizing (heavy weapons should use clutch claw boost to make this happen) and slinger burst dramatically increases the efficacy of elderseal buildup per pod. Save it until Kirin has an aura-there are two levels of it, supercharged bouncy skin is level 2. With each level the amount of lightning basically doubles, keeping Kirin down at level 0 through elderseal makes the fight like 10x easier-though I should note that landing slingerburst’s delayed explosion takes a little skill to know when Kirin won’t just hop away.
From my testing, elderseal weapons are still surprisingly effective, and I would recommend them for comfort even if Kirin took no dragon damage at all, but they run the slight risk of triggering when Kirin has no aura, and generally don’t build up as fast as the pods anyway to try and shut it down on demand.
DON'T LISTEN TO THE AILMENT CHART! Nothing helps my Kirin hunts more than Poison! That damage racking up and continuing while you are out of position trying to dodge lightning is a HUGE help in the hunt over all! At the very least give your Palico a poison weapon and pick a gadget that supports ailment status like the Meowlatov Cocktail, the difference is night and day TRUST ME.
I’m not sure when you’re supposed to fight Kirin, but I never found him a real threat. I only found him a threat when other dragons intervened, like Luigi, Odo, and mostly Bazelgeuse (or that one mission with two Kirins)

Because I was so close the platinum trophy, I decided to just go for it and get all the other missing trophies. This included successfully hunting a gold crown sized monster for each monster, which I had mostly done already when I decided to commit to my quest. Kirin was the last monster I needed and later lone holdout for getting my platinum trophy. I hunted this monster so many times, it became infuriating. I also got really good and bashing Kirin heads in. It took literal weeks for the crown to spawn. My advice is that it isn't worth it, unless you're having fun anyway (and after a point, it wasn't anymore for me).
Kirin,was basically a DPS check for a lot of new players to Monster Hunter😂😂😂
Another tip to beat the Kirin is to take away the open space it needs for it to run around since it pretty much uses hit and run tactics. Get it angry so it will follow you, if you are fighting it in the coral highland there is a pit you can jump into and the Kirin will follow. You will basically trick it into a cage match which will limit it´s room for movement and you can get a ton of damage in. However only do this if you are really tanky or really good at douging. After all you may have tricked the Kirin into the cage but don´t forget you are looked up with it and you too won´t have much rum to run either. Weapons recommended for this strategy are SnS, DB, Lance, Gunlance, Greatsword or CB. Hammer if you are good at not getting hit and are good at bonking it on the head Also pick up some rocks for your sling to wall slam it. This strategy works best on solo hunts.

My first time fighting Kirin was an absolute nightmare. As a lance user mobility is not a thing. But I slapped on ingot armour grabbed my water lance and went to town
Tbh i somehow killed it with a higher ranked defender bow and just kept shooting its face with power coating and the blast effect the bow alr has knocks it down quite alot
Started a new run on mhw after a hiatus, learned the gunlance, killed kirin and 3 hours after you uploaded this??? I feel scammed

Head pokes with lance or gunlance is the best and safest course in my experience.
I still love so much in a world full of eastern and western dragons, wyverns, and beasts

Kirin is far easier if you're using bow or light bow gun, i actually defeated on my first attempt, the second phase got me once but it's not that difficult as people make it to be

Use Hammer. I was prepared for a bad time with Tempered Kirin after hearing all the horror stories, then beat him in less than fifteen with a single cart. The Coral Highlands slopes make it easy to smack his head and get mounts.

I like using glaive for him, lots of mobility to dodge the lightning and minds eye on every aerial attack so no bouncing off
