Chris McFeely Great stuff! It’s a shame season 3 wasn’t regarded better, but having been a kid and a fan of the show’s original run back then, I’m guilty of not appreciating the themes the new creators were running with, ranging from the aforementioned diplomacy to literally mental health with (my personal favorite) the Web World episode. Although there was a lot of humor in that episode Cyclonus plays his concern for his leader Galvatron pretty straight. It was handled pretty well. You can tell these guys loved and wanted to make more than just cartoons for kids and snuck in some really mature themes (not those kinds, but still). Also their Transformers lore was much better than the scatter brained mess from the original two seasons. I love the story of the Autobot symbol.

I was introduced to Transformers through the Bayverse movies. I fell in love with the characters, impactful messages, and awesome action. I watched Gen 1 soon after and still love to rewatch it. I don’t mind the animation errors, for it makes a fun game to see how many you can find throughout the episodes. The humor and teasing makes me laugh every time, and is something I wish Hasbro would bring back in today’s media.

While I was too young to have watched the G1 cartoon when it was first airing (I wouldn't even be born for almost a decade after it premiered), I did discover a VHS of the three-part pilot at a local video rental store and gave it a watch, intrigued that Beast Wars wasn't the only Transformers show.
Later, as a teenager, I took to watching the series on Teletoon Retro (a Canadian TV station that airs older cartoons), since my interest in the franchise had been rekindled by the live-action movie and Animated.

I’m a young fan who discovered the series later on, but i love it to death. And sure, it may look dated to some people, and the toys aren’t as articulated as they are today, but there’s a certain charm to both the old toys and animation errors that makes it so amazing. Generation 1 is quite simply my favorite bit of Transformers continuity. Right next to the War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron games.

My favorite transformers g1 episode is the one where Beachcomber mourns the loss of organic life in a glen because of a special metal the autobots and decepticons were fighting over. Im a youngster so i was surprised to find these seeds of “autobots maybe not always good” were there even back in the eighties. I personally grew up with TF Animated and in between seasons i quenched my thirst for transformers by watching the movies and hunting down the G1 episodes on UA-cam

  • @COctagons

First I ever saw of TF G1 was in re-runs in the 1990's, when I was little. It and Power Rangers defined my early childhood (giant robots FTW), and then I saw a VHS of The Movie in a charity shop, bought it, and watched it till it wore out, and was inevitably chewed-up. I still watch the hell out of it online, too.

Actually me, and my family recently (by recently I mean a couple months ago) went to my grandma's on my Dad's side, and we found the Twintwist toy that my dad had when he was young!
The hook on it was broken though... so it couldn't really function the way it was supposed to... but Hey! It's a G1 toy right? I looked at the engravedment on the back it said " Takara 1980-1984 " so we have a G1 Transformer on our hands. Well, my dad doesn't let me play with it (I am kinda old for that) (I should have said touch it) so it's on top of our fish tank like a decoration, it's a little faded from age, but I kinda like that, it also has one of those "rub it, and find out if it's a autobot, or a decepticon" sticker (it barely works)...

But to be honest, I was looking at the G1 commercials for the toys, and I saw Sixshot, and Quickswitch. i squealed so loud, and I really need(want) them!!
I really like transforming transformers (my grandma from my mother's side had got Armada Megatron, and Armada Skyfire/Jetfire. they were in their alt Mode, and I just looked at them and transformed them without any instructions! That was also my first time seeing those toys)
So in a way, Transformers toys are like my Rubix cube, and/or Fidget spinner ;)
(Sixshot, and quickswitch are six changers!)

Yeah, I'm 27 (in 2021). I grew up with Beast Wars, RID 2001 and TF: Animated. Plus great shows like Avatar the Last Airbender and Bruce Timm's DCAU. So when I was 10 and got the entire G1 Transformers show for Christmas just as I asked for, I only knew it by reputation by Geewunners who wouldn't stop going on about how great it was. I was profoundly disappointed.
Funnily enough, because I didn't get attached to any of the characters, I didn't care when they died in the movie, save for Optimus who I genuinely felt for as he died. Season 3 ended up being my favourite as I felt Ultra Magnus, Kup, Springer, Arcee and Rodimus were telling muuuuuch more interesting stories with deeper themes and better characterisation than S1-2. Plus the film and much of season 3 was darker, and I was a fan of that.

I remember the TF movie being “hosted” on its first tv broadcast by puppet/animatronic Optimus Prime, which left one of the kids he was telling the tale to beg to know how he survived. He laughs it off as a tale for another time as the credits roll. I’ve NEVER seen that version or type of hosting for TF ever again.
