"Fools Gold" Nova from DNR Auto Needs Help! Lots of Suspension fixing and LITTLE things too

  • Anyone who's been paying attention to the Street Racing Channel or SRC Garage will know this car, and probably know at least a little of the journey that it's been on. Thrown together as a budget racer originally it's now graduated well past that to some serious big boy small tire race car stuff now with a 496 Big Block Chevy under the hood!
    After their first test drive it became apparent pretty quickly to everyone that this thing was in desperate need of some suspension and alignment work. Moving around on launch, pulling in one direction or another, unstable at speeds, a feel of "plowing" when driving... it had some opportunities for improvement. As we all know the fastest way to travel between the start and finish is a straight line, if he's having to work the wheel and DRIVE the car he's losing speed... losing time... and losing races.
    So with The Come UP a crazy quarter million dollar small tire invitational race just a short time away we got to work sorting out all the little bits we could to get this car better AND safer. As you'll see in this video, there were a lot of little issues to resolve. None of it particularly expensive parts wise but time and brain power consuming, when it comes to Race Car Alignment work that's typically how it goes.
    Lucore Automotive is a small independent American small business located just outside Columbus Ohio. While we are a full service shop that maintains and repairs countless daily drivers we are also well known for our work on classics, race cars, and collector cars.
    We would like to thank all of our friends, fans, follower, supporters, subscribers, and most importantly customers for being here with us! Without the wonderful people who let us work on their toys, and help their dreams come true we wouldn't be in business.

      It's been a process getting this thing right, but that's how it goes getting a normal beater street car into the realm of what these guys do. Don't shortcut. Don't cheap out. Don't skip steps.

      That's really what we do this stuff for, gotta keep people and their rides safe. We laugh and joke about things but when it comes down to it you have to make sure things are right. Hopefully we don't come off too judgemental in the video but it helps to educate and explain some of what we do.

      Ohhhh just you wait 😀 There were certainly a few opportunities we found for improvement! As you can see from the in car footage on his video, the amount of "driving" he has to do to keep it straight isn't nearly as serious.

    Nice job on the technical explanation. 90% of people on the street have no clue on what it takes too do the job your doing. most racers don't know either. If you could do a video series on alignment and how the suspension should work in layman's terms . That would help alot of us.

    Thanks for the video guys. Wish I had a good alignment shop where I am at. I took my 84 suburban up to my local guys for alignment after replacing every single piece in the front end. After it sat there all day I called them and asked if it was ready and they told me they couldn’t do it because the truck was too old and that the shims are not available anymore. Haha 😂 what a joke. I have an old set of toe plates and bishman levels. I sat it myself in the driveway and sent it down the road. How ever I have a 68 camaro with cal tracs that pulls fairly hard that I haven’t been able to align well enough myself with no clue where to take it. Great.

    CONFUSED: Why do some folks install the hood scoop bass ackwards? They are supposed to ram air down to the carb ; backwards creates a vacuum and restricts airflow. What am I missing?

    • @1965l88
      @1965l88 2 роки тому +1

      There's a high pressure area in front of the windshield that forces air into the scoop. Bit of an oversimplification, but they DO work, plus they don't add a lot of extra drag like a forward facing scoop does.
