- Hi guys, this is one of my childhood favourite dishes cooked by mum.
Ingredients:
500 gram mutton mince (lamb, beef or chicken mince can be used)
3 tbs oil
2 tsp Garlic and Ginger paste
3 Bay Leaf (tez pata)
5 Cardamon pod
3-4 cinnamon (casia bark) 2 inch sticks
2 diced Onion
1 diced Tomato
2 medium diced potato
4 sliced chilli
1 handful coriander
1 & 1/2 tsp Salt
Spice mix
1/2 tsp turmeric
1/2 tsp cumin powder
1 tsp curry powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1 & 1/2 tsp chilli powder
1 cup water
My wife's family is from India. I consider myself a pretty good cook and I tried to learn how to prepare Indian food and thought I did well when they all came over. Her Uncle thanked me for the "Indian-like" food. I've been watching and learning for next time so I can shed the "like". Appreciated.
This is homestyle food from Sylhet in Bangladesh. Indian food is similar but different.
joolsner True. But the techniques of preparing have helped considerably. I make extra food for my wife’s co-worker who is from Afghanistan and she has notice the improvement and authenticity of my dishes. I’m “inspired” to keep improving. 👍🏻
I’m glad they liked it something of our Sylhet culture. We are more Bengali/Assamese in our flavours so our neighbouring countries really play a part as well as the Mughals and other inhabitants and ancestors. The nation of India now prior to colonisation cooked as their tribes and ethnics do. My Fathers side cook very different to my mothers but allbeit - curry is a curry as long as it’s yummy I say 😅.
cooked this tonight, it was fantastic. My Father passed away recently, we had planned to come to your restaurant. Unfortunately he wasnt able too. Once the lockdown has passed I will be sure to visit. God bless you sir and thank you
I am sorry for your loss. Please stay safe🙁
Sorry to hear
Hope you and your family is doing well

What a privilege to see authentic Bengali food being prepared - and by your mum too! Honoured!
Big up Latif! W hat an honour to get mum's recipe!
Nobody cooks as good as mam . Bless her. Give her a big hug from me.
You are a blessed man to have your mum to share her cooking methods with you. Now we are blessed as well, as she cooks for you, and you film it, we ALL get to see her cooking method. For me, the REAL foods come from the love of our mothers and grandmother, those recipes are then taken to restaurants, and get changed to make them faster cooking, or more punch, or less costly to make. This is just the way it is for restaurants, I am not saying it is bad what restaurants do, but it is just Different. My Mum and Grandma (MiMi) is gone now, I did get to learn from them some of the ways they made meals, by tagging along with them in the kitchen. The love there was always heart felt. They let me stir the pots, cut up some of the ingredients, Always let me taste for salt and pepper, which like you, I feel is one key to great food. If your Mum is willing please have her cook some more dishes for you, while you film her. The most precious treasure in each family, your love for her comes across in the video as well as her love for teaching you what she is doing. Cheers From Michigan USA.
I have been making keema since the 1970s but never like this. Looks fabulous and will try it next time. Thank you guys. Love your Mum! 🇦🇺🙏🏻😘. Keep safe and well.
Simple, home cooking at its best. You just can't beat a mother's cooking. Please thank your mother for sharing this with us, and tell her that we look forward to her next recipe 👍.
David Cramb yes, I think she’s getting less nervous and I hope she’s enjoying helping me.
I miss my mum and her keema curry due to this lockdown n virus. Pray to allah we all get through this with our health intact and once again be able to meet our loved one’s. ameen
big up allan
I didn't grow up eating Asian food but now Its my favourite thing. Kemma matar or Aloo is one of my faves along with chicken karahi and channa masala
Thanks a lot to your mom. I'm already drooling 🤤
I love this curry , my mom makes the best version, exactly like this but with added peas. One of my all time favorite dishes
EldronsPP yes she uses peas as well and sometimes both!!! Yum
Yeah peas that would be a good addition
I add corn sometimes, that way the kids get their 5 a day
Latifs Inspired no
My mom used peas too ..
This is how my mum used to make it for us when we was kids. The best. I honestly thought Bengali and Pakistani / Kashmiri cooking would have been somewhat different but obviously i was wrong. Thanks for sharing brother. My salaam to your mother and wish her good health and happiness.
Omg cooked this last night and boy it was the best food I have ever cooked or eaten. Thank you and your mum for sharing.
Your mum is a star. Wonderful.
Wonderful ma sha Allah 😊
fatima begum Jazak Allahu Khyrun
My mom used to cook this too and so have I! Brings back really nice memories : ) Thanks for the recipe!
Thank you Chachi for sharing your recipes I know how Bengali mums don't use measurements just eye ball so the step by step was really helpful, seems like you have a really nice relationship with your mum, for the rest of the viewers in terms of this keema recipe you can eat with rice, chappati, pasta or spaghetti it's very versatile during these challenging times use what you got at home!
I will cook this today in sha ALLAH am fasting this will be my iftar with chapati in sha ALLAH.
Mashallah mothers hands have fed us with so much love since we’ve been put on this earth. May Allah grant them the best in this life and the hereafter iA. Brilliant video. I’m learning to cook and this look simple yet so tasty!
Thanks for this! My Dad came over to England from Pakistan in the 50s and he used to make this. I’m sat at home in isolation now and can’t wait to make this and take a trip down memory lane.
From Houston, love the recipe, making this tomorrow.....please keep making videos......
mmmm, can almost smell that, yum
Quick tip - freeze your mince and then put it into water before using and all the blood seeps out along with anything else and then it’s easier to strain - saves on making your kitchen unsanitary and makes cleaning mince easier! Thank you Kala / great job! You lucky sod Latif getting Kala to cook for you!
Talha Javed Alhamdulillah
Mashallah am making that now
I've made Keema Aloo Curry before but this is a much better recipe for me to try during lockdown. Stay safe.
Simply an amazing recipe.....really nice to see genuine home cooking. 👍🏽😀
2 chefs in the kitchen, mum one of them, what can go wrong. Love it !!
This is fantastic, perhaps a Mum’s authentic Bengali Homestyle playlist. Her recipe and technique is more accessible vs restaurant style...

In love with indian/bengali/Pakistani cuisine and have learnt nearly everything about it from you keep up the good work my man!! Your mum certainly looks like a woman who has spent a lot of time an mastered her cooking!
Well done Sassi! Exactly the way my mum used to make it when she was alive.
Nice one mate. My first ever curry was a mince curry back in 1985 in Perth (Scotland). It was listed as a Methi Gosht on the menu, though I think that might not have been entirely accurate, but it was delicious. It got me into curry and a year later I was eating, as a regular, Glasgow's (Charing Cross) Koh-i-Noor chicken vindaloo which was this amazing dish where the whole chicken breast (unchopped) was cooked and presented in a large soup plate of dark oily pungent garlic, ginger and coriander infused vindaloo sauce that was, whilst quite fiery hot, also amazingly tasty and flavoursome. Sadly the Koh-i-Noor closed sometime in the late 90's, and I've never had a curry like it ever since.
Love this video and will be trying later this week. Thanks to you both!
After this lockdown finishes man's hitting your restaurant first thing. Love from LUTON
Indian shephards pie love it, thanks for sharing your mother is a great chef just like you :-)
jonathon aldington thank you
Proper home cooking 😊 My favourite food the world over is the good basic cooking that people eat at home
Well done mum! Glad to see mum is keeping you on your toes.
I go to a lovely little Bangladeshi cafe in Bolton called Rice n 3. Every Saturday they do a special dish called Nehari lamb served with a naan. I mop up the gravy with the bread then eat the tender lamb. Gorgeous food.
Amazing!
Nihari with naan is banging!!! The thick sauce 😍
Loooove Nihari, Bangladeshi version cooked with shatkora(sylheti citrus)
Momma knows best 😊 missing moms cooking 💯👍
This is Bengali soul food at its best. I cook this also very similar recipe. I’m probably tad more generous on the cumin and Coriander powder. I prefer Dried Fenugreek leaves over coriander at the end
Love the Sylheti Bangladeshi curries, keep up the good work.
Mum's the word on the recipe. Good stuff. Thanks
These authentic everyday family curry recipes are fantastic. Knocks the BIR stuff out of the park to my taste. Gimmie staff curries or especially Mum's curries any day of the week.

Great to see mum bringing that authentic touch, keep it up mate, you're playing an amazing and important role with these videos, thank you so much.
Great video, thanks...
Genius
I have been waiting for this one, it’s also my favourite dish by my mum!! 😍 and so special to see it cooked by your mum. Thank you both for sharing! Also a great idea to record your mum’s recipes on videos for your own memorabilia. Once again I am inspired! 😊 I made your ginger and garlic paste yesterday so going to get cooking today 😀
Looks delicious! I usually boil the keema a couple of times to drain away all the fat before cooking it.
I love it... no nonsense cooking👍👌

I'm making this tonight (with turkey mince)...looks so good!!! Much thanks to your mother and you for sharing this recipe with all of us...💗💗💗
That's actually one of my fav curries!
Thank you Mum - real Apna style food - much appreciated. When I worked for a Muslim Housing Association for 10 years we had a cooker in our office kitchen and some lunchtimes the girls would show me how to cook proper Apna style food. Some girls were Bengali and some were Kashmiri so it was a great variety. I would go to the local store and buy halal keema and make them a Mexican chilli 🌶!! Great times, I really miss them now I am retired.
Well I said that I would make this dish and tonight I did and it was fantastic!. I threw in some asparagus that was waiting to be used up and the curry powder I use was Bassar masala which I think has a bit more flavour than a typical madras mix. This is now on my favourites list. Big thanks to Latif and his Mum for making this available. 🍽
im going to try that right up my street thanks Latif
Cooked with elegance!
Thanks for sharing this Latif, my mrs just walked in and has demanded we have Keema now
Mikey lol!!!
