My nephew signed a 36mo lease for a Toyota Corolla that was $700/mo and $20k for purchase at end of lease. Literally $45k for a Corolla. Luckily the bank caught it and had him return the car to the dealer.

Several dealers (Toyota, Acura, and VW) over the past several months the wife and I visited are doing the same thing. Selling the vehicle with mandatory add-ons. The prices ranged from 2k to 4k for alarm systems, door guards, wheel locks, and tinted windows. All of them stated they add-ons could would not be removed. Like Ray stated, we thanked them for their time and we departed the dealership. Only the Toyota dealership manager spoke with us last month as we were getting back in our vehicle and he then stated he would sell us the vehicle (4Runner) with out any of the add-ons.

Great job - that's exactly how an informed consumer should handle it.

@@VideoArchiveGuy The last "stealership" I walked into was a Chevy dealer who tried this same crap. After spending about an hour and with them thinking I was getting hot to buy they started introducing additional add-ons into the conversation. After reviewing all the numbers the guy hands me his pen and says that the car is being prepped as we speak for a quick delivery LOL. At which point I said, "Tom, how much money have you made in the last couple of hours? He said "zero". To which I answered...."it's still zero. Good day." I then got up and walked out. After a quick test drive we sat down and started talking numbers. The initial sheet they gave me was $3000 more than what they had quoted me, and the extra $3000 was for Perks. The true value of the perks was maybe $200. Come to find out that on new vehicles they are adding $5000-$7000 for the same "perks". Needless to say I will never set foot in that dealership again.

    • @weldchip
      @weldchip 3 місяці тому +4

yeah you have to walk in say i will buy it if you take all the make believe stuff off the window sticker. focus on the out the door price that is all that matters, i tell them they can leave all the addon's on if they want but say i wont pay more than msrp so they will have to discount the car down if they want to keep their addon money. i don't care if the dealer screws the manufacturer or the manufacturer screws the dealer, i will only pay what i want to pay or i will go somewhere else. the other good trick is to be open with them, say im undecided between three models between 3 different manufacturers, even if your set on one specific car then go drive all three and say your still undecided and ultimately your likely to buy a vehicle from the dealer that has the best deal. That usually has them falling over themselves to give the best quote and you can play them off against each other, they will call and when they do say your leaning towards the other brand because they currently have the better deal, the will ask what do they need to do to change your mind then you work them down. NEVER EVER buy a car on the first visit, go once to look once to test drive then the 3rd time you buy. make sure on the second time you get them to email you their best offer to compare to the other offers you have from other dealers on other brand cars. all the price negotiation needs to be done outside of the dealership on the phone and via email if you want to have a chance of getting a good deal.

After a year of being on the market for a new SUV, finally I found a Nissan Dealership that was easy to deal with. Up front I told them that I wanted the price listed on their website. In California the DMV has a link where you can calculate taxes & registration fees. I add it that amount to the list price & that total amount was what I was willing to pay for the Pathfinder that I wanted. They offered me exactly the OTD price I had in mind. Also because I have been a customer of Nissan for a long time I end up purchasing my dream SUV with 34% down & the rest with 0% interest in 36 months. Now I understand the reason their inventory continues to move along because they really treat customers with very friendly environment not like other brand dealerships that were not willing to make a deal. So finally thanks to Garden Grove Nissan I really highly recommend them.

Damn right “the dealers are still operating that way”. Here in Southern California, all the local Toyota dealers are 5-10k over, depending on which model. We were lucky on a Crown Platinum and bought at about 3500 under MSRP but took 3 months to get that. The car sat and on the last day of the month, last day of 2023, it still hadn’t sold. I couldn’t believe we got it for 49k and they removed all the add on BS like the alarm and paint protection. Original asking price was 57,200. MSRP was 52 and change

Sticker was 27500 and yes they would only sell the car to us for 28000 plus tax. Ive NEVER paid sticker for a car ever in my life and im 54yrs old. The owner eneded up at the negotiation table because i drive a hard bargain. Owner Said...Ive always have had over 150 new cars on my Lot at all times and i could give discounts and wheel and deal. Now.Honda only allows me 34 cars at once. He said hes forced to up charge to stay in business and we picked the only honda civic sport that was on his lot. And it was, he wasnt lying the car lot was pretty empty. So we decided to just butbit at 28000..

I went to another dealer across town & their out the door price for the same $33,000 MSRP Civic Hatchback ST deal & trade was $34,215! The dealer that getting my business does NOT do add-on stickers on the window for anything & they didn't try to sell me any added protection plans either! They sell a lot more Honda's than the other dealer does bc of pricing, it's a family owned dealer & that's their only dealership! The overpriced dealer has 17 other dealerships from other manufactures, they add a $1999 add-on sticker regardless if you don't want the add on's, they had a new Civic that just came in on the truck when I was looking without the options but my salesman said whether you get the options or not you will still be charged $1999 for them!

Last year, when we helping my daughter buy her first car, she wanted a Honda HRV msrp just under $28,000. The honda dealer surprised us with an additional $5,000 market adjustment. We were not buyers at the adjusted price and the dealer would not negotiate.
We then went to our local Toyota dealer and found a Rav4 hybrid xle for msrp, just over $32,000. Not long after, we helped buy a Camry Hybrid xle for her brother, and my wife traded in a Jeep Cherokee about to go off lease, traded for a 2nd Rav4 hybrid xle. Both of these vehicles at msrp. We also received a very strong trade value on the Jeep.
Keep in mind that this was almost two years ago, when inventory across the board was tight and market adjustments were more prevalent. I'm still glad we have a Toyota dealer nearby, with a longer-term view with a focus on building customer relationships.

During a visit to my local Honda/AutoNation dealership 5 years ago, I tried to negotiate repairs or a price reduction on a 3 yr old Odyssey (which my mechanic inspected, and gave a list of 10 issues). Their response was to hand me a pamphlet which said "We Don't Negotiate - the Price is the Price". I walked away. I may buy a Honda in the future, but NOT from any dealer who refuses to negotiate. Also, they advertised it as "Certified Pre-owned", and when I questioned them, they said, "yeah, it's AutoNation Certified", which means AutoNation certifies it's a used car (the odometer tells you that). These tactics have soured me on AutoNation, but I'm sure they're not the only ones pulling this crap. SEARCH OUT FAIR DEALERS & BUY FROM THEM. I bought a new Honda from a dealer 90 miles away once, because they offered me a great price by email. Businesses do not understand the long term large purchase buyers impact. I grew up with my parents having Cadillac's in the 1970's, great cars. Then they got a 1980 Cadi that was the biggest piece of garbage and the dealer and GM took no responsivity. I was just a kid, but swore to NEVER buy a GM product in my lifetime, and I pass that advice to my children. NOBODY gets away with anything in this world long term.

I'll tell you exactly what I mean when I say "give me your best OTD price."
What I mean is, I know that the listed price is not the only price that can make the dealer money. I've been to enough dealers and negotiated enough to know that if I'm offered an OTD price without anything off the asking price, or maybe the standard $500 off, the person I'm dealing with doesn't respect me or my time. ESPECIALLY if there have been no price drops on the car or better yet price increases, I know my time is being wasted and I'm either talking to the wrong salesman or I'm at a stealership.

Hello gentleman. I stumbled upon your customer schools dealer video, which was great. Thank you. But one thing that stood out to me on the negotiation was the hard price that the customer came to based on her research. The question is.. how did she come to the conclusion that this was the right and just # to work with? I believe its a factor that we all need to understand. Maybe its a good idea for your next video. I am in the market now.

In Puerto Rico we are seeings this ridiculous markup prices. i wanted to buy a Hybrid CRV who local MSRP was $40k and they were selling it for $55k then I went for the lower trim that was 33k and sell price was $48k and I left the dealer. The next day the salesman called me asking $44k and I was you know what? I got a BMW with half the interest rate and $100 less monthly payment than the CRV and yeah I probably wont get the car until it dies but at least I will have a decent car for the next 5 years with warranty (Honda only gives 3 years) until the prices come down.

I bought a new Honda last summer and shopped many dealers . I found one that will discount off the MSRP. I did have to take the Protection Package that was already added at $1500 .. but I got a $3500 discount off MSRP on the truck and got 2.9% financing for 5 years. People have to shop around and I drove 60 miles to another Honda dealer in the next state.

Yes, shop around if you really need to drive a new vehicle, even out of state like this person did. i drive old stuff but for the family business we ended up going out of state and buying a new peterbilt for $60,000 less than our local dealer. yes, i said $60,000 and not just $6,000 but remember this is a semi so different value but same principle. we thought something was different, not the same package but when my nephew looked into it, it was the exact one we were looking at locally, same package, same options just different prices. just the tax savings on the $60,000 we didn't pay would have paid for us to fly 2 guys out and drive it back but they delivered it for free to a company 45 minutes from us to have some finishing touches added to it that we needed changed on it but that is a different story. so it does pay to shop around and step out of your area if needed.

Honda dealerships are the worst in Canada. We went to our local dealership in North Vancouver in British Columbia Canada. We were looking at a new 2024 Honda Pilot. We agreed on a price with taxes in the parking lot based on the window sticker price. We go inside the dealership. The salesman goes to talk to manager and comes back with more details.
$400 extra dollars for lug nut locks
$1800 extra dollars for undercoating and interior protection coating that was already applied to vehicle
$1400 extra dollars for documentation fee
$600 extra dollars for picking a white coloured Pilot
WTH! What a bunch of dishonest clowns. We walked away. A few months later we custom ordered a 2024 pilot from a different dealership out in Burnaby. Luckily there was now a 2000 dollar incentive (big whoop).
We could easily have afforded the first dealer price but it is the principle. We were not going to do business with outright crooks. Many of these dealerships are price gouging dishonest crooks. Totally unethical. Dripping with sleaze.
Boycott the price gougers and dealership crooks.
