Your story of the cake reminds me of the King Cakes of New Orleans. In N.O., Mardi Gras season starts with Epiphany, and King Cake is served at almost all meetings and gatherings.
Very, very Interesting. I also have memories of the King Cake tradition from when I lived in New Orleans. I've heard about the magi from my Central American mom but she never really explained their significance to me in terms of her culture. Maybe it's a sign I should purchase this book! It's always a pleasure to listen to your thoughtful, enthusiastic reviews.
That is just a reprint of 'The Magus' by the same author, Barrett. I found a pdf of it(Book of Magi) and compared to my hard cover(The Magus) and it is the same.
I’m just realizing how many videos I missed recently that aren’t popping up in my feed for some reason… gotta love that algorithm. Anyway, this looks great! I’m a big fan of Dr Al. Anyone who’s heard him speak knows that guy’s brain moves faster than the hyperdrive on the Falcon. I love his podcast appearances. Thanks for the review and I hope the new year is treating you well, Denis!
Wow, Foolish Fish, I love the historiolae 📚 on your channel! Alexander Cummins is 🎉 a wonderful author magician and I'll certainly avail through your links as much as possible!🎉📚📖
I had this book a few years ago. I remember selling it. I went through a period of wanting to learn magick. I bought a ton of books of which this was one. Anyway, because of my religious brainwashing I sold all of my magick books. I had so much guilt and condemnation I almost lost my mind. So, I sold them. I only kept my Manly P. Hall books.
Denis, it is absolutely delightful how generous you are in sharing your childhood memories with us! The story of la galette des rois et du roi du jour reminded me that in Portugal and Brazil there is the “bolo de Reis”, a version of the galette, but without the religious miniatures that usually fill the galette that will designate the King of the day. In short, delightful, my friend!!! ❤

I almost always get the baby! lol
This appears to be a book that I would appreciate reading and maybe holding onto as a reference. Thank you for sharing. Love and Light.

Looks interesting. I looked it up on Amazon and there's another book called "The Book of Magi" by Francis Barrett. Are you familiar with this one?
