- ⛑️ Check out this video about another tourist activity that went wrong ⛑️ • FATAL ERROR: Hang Glid...
Horizontal Falls is an amazing natural wonder where water rushes through two narrow gorges. High speed tourist boats travel through the falls for an exhilarating ride. But! These are also croc and box jellyfish(deadliest jellyfish) infested waters. And last year a boat carrying 26 tourists hit a rock wall and capsized. Here’s their story.
Be respectful in the comments otherwise your comments will promptly end up in the swirling croc and jellyfish infested waters of Horizontal Falls!

"He hasn't been kicked out of the skipperhood" 😂😂😂😂😂 I laughed so hard. I love your humor!!
I know:nothing about nautical stuff 🤣
I love how amused you can be by things despite the seemingly serious nature of your content. My kinda sense of humour. I am a huge fan of your style.
Can't give enough praise to the RFDS and the EMS they work with, personally owe 19 years of life to the work they do.
Excellent coverage. I live in WA and it's pretty clear to me that this was covered up. The initial reporting was very vague but I quickly worked out it was an impact against the rock wall. But since then there has been nothing. zip. No footage from the passengers, nothing. look at how many passengers have cameras going in the other footage, but no personal footage POV either from the event, or the rescue, or the triage, or the evacuation, has come on the internet / social media from that event since then. They've all been paid off and signed non-disclosures I reckon.
That would explain the difficulty in finding ANYTHING about this from the passengers! Even the court case, I couldn’t find much on that either. Definitely suspicious.
@@adventuresgonewrong and the way it fell out of the news cycle was unnatural. No follow ups on the victims. Nothing that I've seen anyway.
I think you're reading too much into it mate... it dropped out of the news cycle quickly because it happened in a very remote area & there was no sensationalism for the non-ABC media to drum up. Fortunately no-one was gruesomely injured, and the rescue was efficient & effective... few news crews would consider a follow-up worth their while these days. As for the lack of footage, given the passengers were aged 40 & over I doubt they were concerned about getting their 15 seconds of fame on social media as they were recovering in hospital. There are far more mundane reasons for wby post-accident info isn't available online... no grand conspiracies needed!
@@noelwhittle7922 nothing un natural about it. Msm isn't interested in reporting facts etc anymore, the modern ' journalist's ' (and I use that term very loosely) only care about being first with whatever is trending that week.
I live on the Rogue River in southern Oregon. We have jet boat tours; I've been on one (it was amazing, and completely safe), and the lack of detail and video of this incident struck me as odd, too. About 20% of the passengers had recording devices, including at least two head-mounted GoPro type setups.
The lack of such from this incident is indeed suspect to me.
Unless you have lived in Australia, you can have no idea how huge and just plain bloody empty it is. But the beauty is unsurpassed.
I have been there done that about 13 years ago I am 64 now, I was terrified going through the falls and couldn't wait to get back to the the floating pontoon, I enjoyed the adventure but wouldn't do it again lol 😂
Oh wow, interesting! Most people who have gone said they loved it. The boat looked like it goes really fast around that corner! Thanks for sharing!
Yes the trip to the area sounds great but would’ve passed on going thru the falls
15 seconds in and all I can think is “absolutely not.” I am clearly not disposed to extreme activities since everything about this screams hell nah.
Hi from Queensland Australia. We have been through the Horizontal Falls by boat and flew into the area in a sea plane. It was an extremely enjoyable trip.
Your delight at those Aussie names for things made me laugh. And heck yeah, I'd go on that tour! It's safer than any backcountry hike I've done.
I have to go see the Bungle Bungles one day!😅
@@adventuresgonewrongThat really made me giggle 🤭I remember first learning about them as a kid and made it a mission to see them just for the name! Australia especially WA is so beautiful! Loving your channel!
Treacherous currents, deadly wildlife, remote location, questionable tour provider: what could go wrong ?
The RFD are so essential in Australia, they are national heroes to all of us here. Thanks for your channel, love your story telling.
Crocodiles don’t “infest” waters; they live there! We’re the intruders!
Thank you for this awesome channel!!!!
👏👏👏👏👏👏
Soo true people go into their territory.Australia is a beautiful country and their wild life is amazing,
However, when you fall in, you tend to change your mind on that stance. If you manage to get out unscathed, somehow, you can then switch back to, “ No, No! It’s their territory! I would have deserved to die an excruciating death completely! I should have stayed at home, on my rocking chair”
@@paddlefar9175 Strange defense you make. Why do we have to come rescue your type, again?
@@angelapietras1235That's why Australia was the perfect penal colony.
We did the Horizontal falls as a family when we did a lap around Australia with caravan in 2007. Stayed on a houseboat overnight near the falls after being flown in on an old but rugged De Havilland Beaver float plane. The boat we used to go through the falls was a jet boat (similar to what they use in New Zealand at the Shotover river), but we did also see the larger boats featured here doing the falls too. This trip was certainly the most expensive thing we did when travelling around Australia but was worth every single penny.
Amazing, thanks for sharing!
That sounds like the trip of a lifetime!!! Thanks!
Another great video, and truly unusual. The information on that part of Australia was really interesting. As for the accident, It’s amazing that no one drowned or died from their injuries!
Yes l would pay $1000 to tour that beautiful part of the world.
Whew what an amazing adventure and amazing nobody got thrown in the water!
I think I would too, it'd be amazing to see.
I'm a bit of a news hound and I live in Australia, but this is the first time I have heard of this incident. One of these days I'll get back over to the west but I don't think I'll be buying a ticket to see the falls. I think I've seen enough documentaries and adventure shows that feature the falls that I don't think I need to actually 'see' them to appreciate them. Oh, and I've subbed so I can check out more of your content. Cheers from the east coast of Australia.
Woohoo Australia! Thx for watching. Seems like there’s so many amazing things to see over there, the falls would probably be lower on my list of things to do there.
I'd highly recommend tripping around the Northern Tropics of Queensland. More waterfalls than you could see in one day, beautiful rainforest, pristine beaches, and awesome adventure tracks and trails. I could be a little biased though, being a tropical lad.@@adventuresgonewrong
Great story Stacy- I have never heard this one before.👍
Another remarkable story and rescue. Thanks for posting. Love your channel!
It was a wild story, but glad everyone was ok in the end. Thanks for watching!
$1,000 buck might seem steep, but if you going to go to the effort and expense just to get to The Kimberley then going on an insane boat ride is truly a bucket list achievement. I'll never forget my ride through the falls.
I’m kinda jealous haha!
Australia has so many amazing places to see and visit! So much diversity in terms of environments, climates....
The RFDS is not only for outback but also for far away places like Esperance, Manjimup..Mt Magnet etc...I brought many to the plane night and days while being part of the St John ambulance service..
Very important service!!
You're the best story-teller! Such an important part of the human experience from very early times. We need good story-tellers.
We really do, thanks so much!
Going upstream, against the current, whitewater, narrow opening, what could go wrong
Loving this channel !! Your hilarious delivery in narration is one of a kind. As far as your question about going? For me that would be NO 🙈🤣
Haha had to have fun with this one since everyone made it out alive!
@@adventuresgonewrong yes blessed they did
Oh yes, the Kimberly is like nothing else, sailing Nutshell covered it so well, so many cool things, well worth the watch!
I would still go sounds brilliant. I mean how many incidents does the service have?
True! This was the only one and numerous companies offer the trip.
And one signs their life away to go on these adventures. I experienced that with a river rafting trip on THE Tully River the Queensland area. It’s a 4-5 river. I was crying.
I would love to see the falls, but no go through them. So I guess that would be a little no. Lol! Good video miss Stacey!
I really enjoy your story telling.
I am wondering how the passengers are secured into the jet boat. You'd think that if they were seat belted in (or restrained somehow), they would not be flying around, whacking into other passengers, etc. in the event of an accident. Of course, if the boat cap-sized, being belted in might not be a good idea. I wouldn't mind flying over the falls, but don't need the excitement of jet boating through it.
Who thought it was a good idea to try to take a boat thru rocks like that? Unreal. It looks like a whirlpool right at the start of it.
And they go SO FAST around the corner into the falls!!!
I like that you laugh thru your own video!!!
The RFD sounds like an absolutely amazing, vital service. Thanks for your videos, they are informative and you have a real knack for storytelling.
I love reading real life adventure stories. Great channel.
I would go. Australia is an amazing place.
I would need 3-4 months to see and do what I think would be a great adventure.
Thanks for your positive comments. I'm Australian and we spent 6 months traveling through Western Australia.
When you said “Royal Flying Doctor Service” 😆and then it is an actual national charitable health organization 😮…❤
It’s a great name!
Australia is a fascinating place in terms of geography and geology, but it is clear that nature there is out to kill you one way or another. 😂
That's so true, I didn't even get into how deadly those box jellyfish are!
@@adventuresgonewrongdepending on where you live you sometimes get warned by local fisherman if there has been one seen near populated areas. Where I live now is very tame, but a few years in Queensland had me a bit more on edge. Purely because the risk of coming across a crop, jellyfish, or snake was higher. Still, I'm glad I got to live in that area for a while.
Thx for the scary bedtime story. And the little side notes and bits of humor are very entertaining -- "The Royal Flying Doctor Service, best name ever" and "the skipper is piloting another boat, so he hasn't been kicked out of the skipperhood."
Glad you enjoyed it!
😂😂😂😂🎉
The RFDS is Australia's flying ambulance and Hospital all in one, and yes I would pay $1,000 to do it twice
I like my water to be very slow moving. I only kayak on a small lake. Those horizontal falls are terrifying.
I wouldn't go, I don't like the ocean, and putting my life in the hands of a stranger is not something I'm game for.
Go have a yogurt
But if you drive or even ride in a car, you are putting your life in other drivers hands every single time.
What about airline pilots?
@@Cat_herders But, she said she doesn't like the ocean. Cars don't drive in the ocean.
@@nolangoldberger2921Huh??????
Had no idea about that area - sounds fascinating! But I'll pass on anyplace where there's a chance of swimming with the box jellyfish!
That looks fun, the views are amazing.
Didn’t know you had another channel..so awesome. Glad I found you…what a story. New subscriber 😊
Great stories! I don't want to miss any!!
Dang that's my Birthday..I was in Kentucky and Tennessee on that day. Makes you definitely second guess your adventure choices
I loved the ominous tone of the question at the end. No, I wouldn't pay $1,000 (or whatever that is in Australian money) to take the tour but I would do it for free. Thanks for another great video.
You really never know!!
Its nice to hear the company/crew actually stepped up and did their job by triaging the injured and prepping them for transport etc. No doubt their swift and competent actions helped saved lives/limbs by not exacerbating injuries and preventing deaths. We dont always hear that organizations/crews act responsibly.
I thought the same, that's why I wanted to include that detail. They may have screwed up and injured folks but their reaction to the accident did help immensely.
I would not pay lol. Good story as usual :)
I would pay not to do it. 😂
Stunning location.
Great story..great channel! Watching from my home city of Perth Western Australia …….officially the most isolated city in the world 🌎
Well hello Australia! Thanks for watching.
$1K sounds like a reasonable price considering how remote the area is and how that fee covers being flown in and out.
Good to hear of a tour company that seemed to have its act together when it came to an emergency situation.
One of the highlights of our 6 month Western Australia odyssey. We took the overnight package from Derby and I can tell you its money well spent and woe to go from the minute you arrive until your departure next morning. The cost? we regarded it as a one off, and it was certainly worth it.............
Thanks for sharing your experience!
You crack me up.
What an incredibly beautiful place. I absolutely must go there! Thanks for sharing.
You are one very cool Lady 😁🥰
My new favorite channel ❤❤
Thanks for watching!
Would be interesting to hear more from the people living there about their opposition to the tourism. Thx for the video and great commentary.
I agree, good point! I’ll head back to the area in a future video I’m sure haha
Hate to say it but usually paying enough money helps make "cultural issues" just disappear *P○○F* (from personal experience).
I'm a new subscriber. I live in Italy. Loving your channel, eh ... you're a great story teller. Keep up the good work
What a beautiful region. I wouldn't do the falls but I would love to see all of it.
Thank you for posting this interesting video
Australia is OK to visit, but not for the whole weekend..
😅
Love your videos!
Woohoo! Thanks for watching!
RFDS? What a cool service!
That was great. Thanks
No way, Jose!
26 passengers and 28 went to the hospital.
My math wasn’t mathing 😆
I just love how you tell a story, and am very glad I found your channel. I've been binging the past few days, and I will be on top of them all very soon. Keep up the great work! Cheering you on from Nova Scotia.
Welcome aboard fellow Canadian!
Funny how often I first hear about incidents in my own country from an overseas content creator! Always glad to hear the Flying Doctor Service getting some well-deserved recognition... they do an amazing job. 💜
I've seen a lot of this country but haven't made it to the Top End yet, and I've paid more than $1k for unique experiences around the world... so I'd definitely consider a Horizontal Falls trip when I make it to the Kimberley.
I don't think people who baulk at the price appreciate just how remote this location is, or how expensive it is to fuel & maintain sea planes and jet boats when the nearest major city is several days drive away! It's pricey, for sure, but when you think about the logistics I can see why.
Hope you make it down our way at some point, it's certainly a beautiful & unique part of the world! 🦘
Good point about the price being related to the remoteness. I hope to get there one day!
I’m binge watching your videos tonight
We have had the thrill of experiencing Horizontal Falls … awesome 👏
Thx for sharing, most who have done it seem to have loved it!
Very interesting. Thanks for your research and presentation.
I hope they all recovered, I wonder if they knew how dangerous that experience was.
100% would do it, been to the corryvrekan whirlpool in a boat but this looks better, and definitely warmer
I love you ! "Royal Flying Doctors"- giggle "Skipperhood" I am happy everyone is okish! Love this channel
Each box jellyfish carries enough venom to kill more than 60 humans. A single sting to a human will cause necrosis of the skin, excruciating pain and, if the dose of venom is large enough, cardiac arrest and death within minutes.
The crocodiles would be enough but those box jellyfish are a reason I would not swim
In Australia or any other country that has them.
Kudos to the doctors that flew in to help. Judging by the bandages seen many won’t be well for a while.
Yeah those jellyfish sounds absolutely brutal.
I just found this channel and I'm hooked. I really like the narrator. The content is also intriguing. 🙂
Welcome aboard!
@@adventuresgonewrong Thank you!
Your channel is growing! Keep it up!
I plan to! Thanks for the support!
Nice work.. made me feel good about people.
They all worked together to get people help.
The Flying Doctors was a great medical drama on tv when we were young
I just discovered your channel and love it. Noone should take that boat trip unless they can satisfy themselves that government safety rules exit and that the operator complies with the rules.
I live in Australia and this is the first I've ever heard of this!
Wow! I quess I am totally risk averse ! Maybe that’s why I’ve lived SO long. Simply terrifying. Happy to go boating on the lake all the time, but the sea?? It can change so fast!
And those big big fish that can eat you. I live on the GA Coast, we have hurricanes and lots of snakes. But that’s as risky as I get 😅. Bless the helpers ❤️
I would love to do it. When the tide turns you get the the horizontal falls.
Ive done the bungle bungles and they were beautiful.
Sounds fun but risky.
Box jellyfish and Crocs?
Yikes
There are a number of reversing falls here along the Maine coast - not as dramatic as this, but the best one is a ten minute drive from emergency pie and coffee, so there’s that.
Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Skipperhood. 😂😂
I’d do. For sure. 😊 How fun!
Same, let's go!
Here in Denmark, we don't have any wild nature.
Sure a lot of water and nice scenery, but if you like adventures it gets boring really quick haha.
Nice channel, I subbed.
I went There back in the early eighties. No big eco tourism mobs out there spoiling the place. Just my dad, uncle brother and myself in an extremely remote area before epirbs etc .
So sad to see places like this with permanent house boats and alacart silver services.
Yeah I would go and want to go. Sounds like a freak accident if it’s only happened once. Or it could have been operator error. The fact that no one has died and there’s only been one accident sounds like pretty good odds to me. Much better than some other adventures.
Never!!!
All my family have been on it, mum ,dad, brothers, im the only sensible one out of all of them lol. Thats a huge colum of water / huge change in tieds, some areas it feels higher then 10mters..
I live in aus I don’t remember hearing about this I’d totally love to go there
Yep we are a beach culture ✌️✌️
one of the most beautiful parts of the world
I agree, I'd love to go see it one day.
I’d go in a heartbeat
Ok that was great, i dont even know this story and i live here, but id like to inform you that you are now a honerary Australian and that means you get a lifetime supply of Vegemite and as pets we have snakes and crocodiles and yr very own boxjelly fish. Or ....you can get 685free trips on the now defunkt horizontal waterfall speed boat cruises,,, enjoy enjoy and thank you the new cultural attache for western Australia. ✌️
🤣🤣🤣 Love it! Can’t wait to take the falls tour and get my own box jellyfish!
You're awesome. Yes W.A is a beautiful and rugged place. Congrats for getting all the names correct. I watch Mr Ballen and cringe every time he does an aussie story. He doesn't get one name correct. Even simple ones like Yass, he called it Yarse
Yay thanks! I try to get them right and research how they’re pronounced before I film. There were a few tricky ones here!
Yarse ... I just had hernia surgery. Please don't make me laugh
Update: news report today on ABC News (Australia) about traditional land owners moving to close the Horizontal Falls gaps mostly due to this accident
