Love Matty Boy's "blood curdling scream" reference! I am so sick of UA-cam testers saying they won't play a club simply because of the sound, even if they bomb it down the middle every time. Good for you!
I recently decided to just keep one fairway wood in the bag. The Ping G 425 # 5 Wood. A traditional 5 woods loft is usually 18 to 20 degrees. The Ping is 17.5 and adjustable down or up. I Adjusted mine down to 16 degrees. Its really more like a strong 4 Wood and easier to hit then a 3 Wood. Mine is coupled with a senior shaft and plays extremely well. With a shorter shaft then a 3 Wood I get more solid contact . The additional loft over a 3 wood helps and I end up hitting it further then my friends hit their 3 Woods. I cannot say enough about the Ping G 425 line of woods and hybrids. I love them.
Have been playing golf for over 50 years. Started out with ping iron (eye-2s) Now after all thios time have came back to Ping! 425 max driver, 425 lst 3wood, 410 irons( which I have bought a shaft bender to flatten 1+ degree. I lost my way, but I think so did Ping in the 80s and 90s? Glad to see you again Mr. Soleman!!

I hit the hybrid and max fairway at a Ping outdoor fitting in Phoenix about a month ago. My miss is a hook and these clubs were set up in one of the flat settings. The hook pretty well disappeared. Nice distance, nice height, and a good feel. I think they will be big sellers. Plus, the shallow faces inspire confidence regarding being able to get the ball in the air.
Had the g400 fairway and hybrid and upgraded to the 425 in both..drastically improved consistency and distance. Ping absolutely killed it with these. Excited to develop some patterns with them and then go get fit into the proper shafts
I enjoyed the Ping G 400 Series too. They are great. I do agree though that Ping improved performance with the G 425 series. I carry the G 425 # 5 Wood and several of the G 425 hybrids. I recently ordered a Ping G 425 # 2 hybrid from Ping. The Ping G 425 series is the best I have ever seen. Amazing how good they are. I added midsize grips from Golf Pride to mine. That was the crowning touch.
Just bought the hybrid and 3wood LST, and your review got them on the shortlist. Could not be happier. Feel I have soooo much control with them. Total fairway finder, and can bend both ways fwhich I need on my course.
Great review guys we were lucky enough to get them early here in Australia and I splashed out driver, 3 wood, and 3 hybrid, I hover around 12, these are the most forgiving clubs I have ever hit, straight and long, the fairway off the tee or off the deck it’s just goes the same distance, the driver has given me 20 more off the tee, and the hybrid can be hit so easily off any surface, just get that head on the ball and let technology do the rest. I strongly advise everyone to go and test these beauties you will not be disappointed, they are expensive I know, but when you hit that first drive further than you ever have, price will be long forgotten.
Got to try the hybrid today. I am blown away at how forgiving this thing is. It is the first club that has made me feel good lmao toe strikes and center strikes produced great results.
I use g410 driver and two fairway woods and I LOVE the turbulators. Personally I have held the new woods side by side with my current ones and I get the feeling I lose confidence without them on top to help me line the ball up as well as where my face is pointing to my target. But this is just for me personally and I’m crazy lol
Had my fit for g425 max driver and hybrid today being a bit of a slicer and seeing the results can't wait to get these in the bag and game them as long as the uk weather Is still good in 5 weeks
Thank you such guys for these tests and chats. So much amazing insight. The 3i, hybrid, fairway is the range in my bag that I think I need the most work on and perhaps to be re-fit after all the work I have done the last few years.
Due to covid the G410 hybrid I ordered in June took august to get. Not fair to bring out a better looking hybrid when mine hasn’t made it through a full season! Thanks for the test they look too good!
I'm mostly interested in these hybrids. The consistency they can offer could be a massive asset for long par 3s and long approach shots, especially over trouble. Lot of great clubs out there but ping is really killing it
Killing it is right. I have never used finer hybrids then these G 425's. The Taylormade Stealth hybrids are good too but at least for me I found the Ping to be a better match for me. I tested them both extensively and would rate them in the top two.
Just ordered the max today. Switching to ping fairway after over a decade playing Titleist. Hard choice, but I just find miss hits on ping more consistent flight, just like in this test.
Bought a 425 Max 5 wood today after years of trying (and failing) to get proper performance out of the more common high launch low spin woods. Hope this thing translates to the course
Would love to see you guys build Matt a monster "fairway driver" club. Low-lofted fairway, play with shaft length etc. There has to be some 300yd carry shots out there.
I’m in the RH G410 plus with the CB Alta 55, my miss is left, I was looking to upgrade to G425 With tensei orange 55, what differences might I notice in the different shaft with a 105 -110 club speed.
Just loving the 7 wood in this, but for a67 year old what is the best of the stock shafts to put in it.I have a slow style swing and like to hit the ball high.
@@ermangus you’re definitely right, they went into the quarantine market. It’s all based on how the individual performs anyway. I could be saying this but if I were to test the two the radspeed could blow the g425 out of the water for me or vice versa. Cheers
I have the G410 driver max and G410 2 hybrid. both in stiff flex but driver has the Ping Tour and hybrid has the Even Flow due to shortage in shafts. My hybrid is AMAZING. It goes as far as my driver and hit it more consistently. I am now starting to rethink if I should change the driver shaft to the same Even Flow stiff flex and see if it can perform as well as my hybrid. Or should I get re-fitted to the LST for wood/driver? I tend to hit down on the ball and when I try to hit up on the ball, I get a ton of spin.
That comment about the long and short shots with hybrids is something that seriously catches my attention. I have that exact issue with my old Adams hybrids
I picked up a G400 Hybrid today, really like it so far. I feel like I will slowly transition over to Ping. Although I will find it hard to replace my F9 3 wood, such a good club. Anyways who cares about me haha. Love the videos, Moan the Scots.
I can't believe I might end up owing a ping wood... Never liked them but these look unreal. Wood love to see the 7w tested, seeing quite a few on Tour.
I’ve been thinking about changing to a more forgiving 3 wood, the MAX model looks like the best choice so far, but i would like to wait for the SIM models
RIP turbulators. I quite like them on my G400s for setup and even aesthetics. Not sure why so many people are obsessed with their clubs being perfectly smooth and characterless. Also, can't forget that they increase speed.
I’m going to buy these clubs, replacing my 12 year old woods and hybrids. I think I’ll hold off on the driver, hoping Ping removes the turbulators from the driver next year.
Agree, I'm a Ping guy but never liked the look of the turbulators. I still have my trusty old Ping Anser but would absolutely buy a new Ping driver if & when they ditch the turbulators. Just bought a G425 Max 3wood and love the look & performance!
Having owned G400 for a while and very pleased with it, I was tempted to give a try to G425 SFT. Really disappointed. All balls were dead left 20 yards. Wonder how the heck they can name it Straight...? Fortunately didn't sell the G400 which I'll keep for the next decade... ;-)
Seems like Matt's ball speeds last year with the G410 LST were much higer than with the G425 LST. Any comparison on swing speed to last year so we are comparing apples to apples?
As a longtime fan of the Ping brand, I've long waited for them to make a fairway wood that compares favorably to their hybrids and drivers. Based on your testing, it seems they may just have it (or be very close). One quick question, if I may: what is the reason Ping has given for removing the turbulators on the hybrids and fairway woods this year? While I personally wasn't the biggest fan of their look, I could still appreciate that Ping (at least, they seem to) only put technology in their clubs that they have tested and proven to produce specific gains over the outgoing models. That they would choose to remove them from these clubs when the drivers retain them has me a bit curious.
Matty hates when they go long ... I hate when they go straight off the toe bounce off the fender of the buggy and come straight back at me, well it’s not hate really just disappointment in the lack of forward progress. Thanks for upload!👍

@@if829 Hi Ian, I just hope that Callaway have sent LH models or we may have an incident:-)) Though looking back at my comment calling the Speed version a "fluorescent green Dog turd" in hindsight may have been a little harsh. My Tourette's syndrome must have been in overdrive lol
Thanks for a great review and test as always! I have the g410 driver, fw and 4 hybrid today. I am planning to add a 3 hybrid. Would you recommend to “upgrade” to a g425 if it is much improved/added benefits or go with the g410 for consistency with the rest of the woods? I do not have the possibility to test them both head to head. Thanks for the help!
Can someone in the comments possibly answer my question, what swing mechanics can cause driver to get too spinny? Used to hit pretty solid flights carrying around 280 and for some reason the past few months the ball feels like it comes out hot for about 200-220 and then just spins straight up into space and falls out around 250 :(
Two things could be happening - or a combo of them. If you hit the ball low on the face, then with the club's CG above that point, the club will gear forward from the top, causing the ball to climb/rotate up the face adding spin (the opposite is also true and why players try and hit the ball 'slightly' above the center/CG location as it reduces spin and the bottom of the club's face will gear forward reducing the ball's natural spin from the applied loft at impact. If you can carry a ball 280, then you have speed. You, as a golfer, possibly either knowingly or unknowingly, may be trading off some of this speed for control. The reason a 9 iron flies straighter than a driver is the ball's backspin acts to resit curvature in the Left/Right direction - this 8000-9000rpms of spin is really driving the bus, and any spin-axis tilt (side spin we will call it but it is really tilting the spin axis) is overwhelmed by the high rpms of backspin. With a driver, with much less loft, you will be dealing with 1800-4000rpm - so any spin axis tilt will quickly start the ball to curve - especially as you get to the low end of spin in the 1700-2300 range. Now, assuming you didn't know any of this, and what you just know is that if you hit the ball a certain way, you have a better chance of hitting the fairway and through trial and error you found a way to hit more fairways by using spin to do so - that is in fact what you've done. I was a tournament-level tennis player and where you see this play out is comparing a first serve that you hit much flatter, trying not to spin the ball so that the power goes into forward-velocity - whereas in the 2nd serve, believe it or not, you actually swing harder, but you now apply a tremendous amount of this hard swing to spinning the ball because you are using the spin to MAKE the ball go over the net and then come down hard into the service court. Now back to golf but keep that tennis serve visual in your mind and think of your driver. If you want to hit a low spin long bombing driver, the clubhead has to come into the kill zone (the back of the ball) in a way that is 'quiet' - i.e. your clubface isn't doing what a baseball pitcher's hand would do to throw a curveball or a tennis player would do on their 2nd serve to spin it in there. Now, if you are hitting the ball relatively straight and not hitting 40-yard slices, then YOU are currently applying this 'spinning' tennis serve / baseball pitcher spin to the golfball in the DOWNWARD direction - i.e. how you would create BACKSPIN on a billiard table on the Cue Ball - this cue ball backspin analogy may work for you if you know how to do that. It is of course also possible to hit a cue ball with no backspin - or in fact also topspin. If now think about all these analogies, you can probably see what is happening to the ball as YOU are hitting it with your current swing - at impact, you are pulling the ball down like a billiard player creating backspin on the cue ball - of course, this is the natural way that you would be hitting a 9 iron or wedge - but it isn't how you want to hit a driver IF you want to maximize your carry - for that, you don't want a 4000rpm spinning golf ball, you want 2000 to 2300 as a bomber spin rate (anything below 1700 and the ball 'may' just fall out of the sky because the spin axis tilt will make it dive like a tennis 2nd serve. Hopefully, those mental images of how spin is imparted on a ball, be it in tennis, billiards or baseball will actually be more helpful than overly complex technical speak - I could have also just said hit up on your driver and drop your club's loft to 8 degrees, and keep hitting up on it, more and more, until you can hit an 8-degree driver over a tall building. Hope that helps
@@wallstreetoneil super helpful reply, thank you. After your explanation I will pay special attention to the bottom point of my driver swing to verify if I've unintentionally tweaked my mechanics. If that doesn't do the trick ill have to look at a lower lofted driver (started at 10.5, weight in back and have gradually worked to 9, weight it front trying to correct this problem on my own). Potentially may look at upgrading shafts as I have been using a stiff flex and perhaps have outgrown it. Ill get on a launch monitor and figure it out. Thanks for all the help
@@jesserigsby3282 The other thing that will help is to practice teeing up the ball crazy high so you can learn to more easily hit up on the ball almost in a topspin sort of way because given what you said, your angle of attack into the ball is one of your likely issues - you are probably hitting down at 2 to 3 degrees really spinning the ball (everything I wrote above) so if you make yourself practice hitting it off a very very high tee you will get the idea of not doing this - this will take some practice as your alignment and angles will feel like they are changing a lot. And if you really were carrying it 280, then an X shaft and 8-9 degree head is where you will be headed - especially as you learn to hit up on the ball

Hi guys, could you do a vid on how the lie angle of a driver effects ball flight? Thanks x
What results would you expect with Tensei Orange as opposed to the Aldila Rogue?
Did you compare stock shafts in the Max driver? Looking for stats.
Love the content. Not a fan of one dot mode. I like to see impact.
Do you guys have the G425 crossover yet? Would love to see a video review of that!
When are the new putter head covers coming?
Will you guys be posting anything today on the new Callaway drivers?
They said next week I'm their last live. Taylormade Tuesday and callaway Thursday
@@joelfarris4303 perfect, thanks. Kinda surprising they didn't have something pre recorded to go out on launch day
Matty with a 3wd, "A bit thin", flies it 260. Can you teach me how to do that with my driver?
Is the hybrid as forgiving as the driver?
You guys are the best🙂.
Have you guys hit the crossover yet? i have a TS2 hybrid but looking to get a utility to swap in and out of the bag with it. Cheers fellas!
What do you and Matt think about the quality of the shafts?
