When we completed our first bathroom, we were over the moon! A real flushing toilet was a life changer for our family, and THEN a HOT shower!!
But now our life is about to be elevated again. We’re starting our SECOND bathroom in our cabin kit home
We’re only starting by covering the walls and ceilings, but this lets us peak into the, not so distant, future and start dreaming about the day that we live in our house with our kids and have TWO flushing toilets and TWO showers with unlimited hot water.
Life just keeps getting better and better over here, and we’re excited to take you along for the ride.
Follow along as we start our loft bathroom in our self built house.

And now a little back story on us, in case you just found us on UA-cam. We’re Sara and Ryan. We are your average suburban family, but 10 years ago, we purchased a raw piece of land in the Hood Canal in Washington. We’ve been developing this piece of property slowly, and this year we knew it was time to go all in. So we purchased a log cabin kit home and decided that 2020 would be the year we built a house on our property. We plan to build this cabin (as much as we can) on our own.
Unfortunately, some unforeseen events in 2020 that were completely out of our hands put a delay on our cabin kit being produced and delivered in the time frame we had originally planned. While we could have just waited it out and pushed back starting on the build of our home, we decided to shift gears and change our course for the time being. We purchased a 30 foot yurt, and will be setting it up as additional living space when we begin to build our cabin.
In the summer of 2021, we FINALLY moved to the Hood Canal so we could start the build of our future home. While we are building our home, we are living in a camper trailer and the yurt that we built in the summer of 2020. We hope to have our cabin kit home built by the end of 2023. Just my husband and I are building the house. We get help here and there from friends along the way and we do plan to get help on the roof but other than that we are doing it all on our own.
Follow along with us as we build our dream in the Hood Canal.

I wanted to recommend you getting a moisture meter. Just to make sure you're not accumulating water between your shiplap and metal roof
Greetings, One Foot and family. Sending some sunshine 🌞 from Jamaica 🇯🇲. You guys are just crushing it. Love it
That is what we need. So much rain here right now!
Great JOB you TWO munchkins....I knew you would get a lot done in that bath. God is Blessing you ALL.
Thanks so much Sandra.
Hi guys yous are getting it done👏
We are trying. Thanks for cheering us on!
Looks like a major step forward getting the walls and ceiling done.
I'll be surprised if the kids don't want to start sleeping in the house every night.😊
I know you two will be happy when you get to.😊
Hopefully all the rain doesn't damper your progress too much.
We are hoping we can get the kids moved in in the next 4-6 weeks and Sara and I are shooting for moving ourself in by the end of April. We are getting pretty excited.
Always a good idea to have extra outlets in the bathroom and kitchen!
I'm pretty excited about a fancy toilet with heated seat.
🤩your almost there
❤ Your journey!
Thank you so much for following along and cheering us on.
You both did a great job and don't sell yourself short on that.
Well done.
Thank you.
Awesome ,
You two are amazing i love everything youve done, what a gorgeous home you and the kids are going to have xxx
It's really coming together. Soon we'll all be living under the same roof again.
You are gaining speed. Everything looks so good.
It really feels like we are in the home stretch now. I know there will be a lot of loose ends to finish up with trim and flooring, but we are getting so close to moving in.
The shiplap is tedious, time consuming work but it looks SOOOOOO good.
I am in love with this cabin, everything you do it's so beautiful, can't wait for the next video
Thank you so much! We really like the design as well and can't wait to wake up in it every day.
🥳🥳 nearly there 🥳🥂🍻
Bet the kids loved sleeping in a full sized bed. And i bet you can't wait to move in..... finally! What ya gona do with ALL that space?! 😂😁
Have a dance party? Everyone is really looking forward to moving in.
You guys rock!! The kids looked so happy in their beds! It’s getting so close now!! I can only imagine the excitement levels with you guys. However please please remember to pace yourself so you don’t overdo it and end up having an a******t!!
I am not saying the word that way you won’t be jinxed!!!! lol
Time to pat yourselves on the back knowing how well you are doing and what you are achieving! And have a drink to celebrate how far you have come. Cheers!! I am feeling so proud of you both like l was your mama!! Big hugs!!
Good job family!!!! 🫂🫂🫂🫂
Thanks 💯
Well done lil pocket rocket and Ryan,, sooo excited for you all, love from Australia x
Wunderschön 👏🏻🤗
Wet on the underside of the timber is bad news. It looks like some extra work to ventilate and seal is needed.
I think when we installed the exhaust for the hot water, I didn't seal up the insulation in that bay properly. I'm hoping that is the issue. I'll continue to monitor it after we have it sealed properly. We had super cold temps outside and we were heating the inside
Maybe a vapor barrier would stop the condensation 😊
That is what I was thinking. Maybe some greenhouse plastic or similar.
Use spray foam around your pipe. Just a thought. It might work.
It couldn't hurt. I don't think the gap around the pipe was the issue but sealing it might still be a good idea. Always looking for an excuse to use the spray foam gun.
@@OneFootOfftheGrid yep, just around the pipe where the condensation is.
just a thought one more outlet in bath for fan or small heater.
We have a built in wall heater so we should be set.
Vanery outlet needs to be A GFI
The vanity outlet is a GFCI, the one that I added was connected to the load side of the plug and therefore is also GFCI protected. Maybe I didn't make that clear in the video but we made sure to get it right.
❤do you have any regrets about the house you chose to build with such high ceiling
It's definitely been challenging to build with the high ceilings. I "think" it will all be worth it once we are getting to enjoy the high ceilings, but ask us again in a few years once we've lived in it and we can give you a better answer.
May I ask how your husband learned all these different skills by chance? No judgment just genuinely curious as I dream of doing this someday myself. I just found your channel today and think your home is beautiful. Thanks.
Is your roof considered a hot roof?
I’m in the process of installing the ductwork for air to circulate to the vent at the ridge
I think it is. We left a 2" -3" air gap above the insulation. So air flows up through the soffits and out the ridge vent.
@@OneFootOfftheGrid ok then you’ve got a vented roof( hope you find that moisture)
@@OneFootOfftheGrid did you also install the vent baffles, that provides a escape for the air to flow out the ridge
Where are you guys at...its been 13 days!!! Miss you guys!!!
We’re so sorry. We’re in the process of moving everything out of storage from our old house because it’s selling. It has really consumed our life. We did just put an episode out, though, and after next weekend, we should be done with the move and should get back to our regular life of building our house.
👍
I've always wondered, is this the Alpine Ridge kit from Conestoga? Or is it custom?
Also is this pine or cedar? And how was your experience with the kit in general?
Asking because I'm looking for prow roofed 3 bed plan as well!
It is the Alpine Ridge with pine interior shiplap and t&g. Our experience has been very good so far. We were one of the first orders that shipped after they shut down for Covid, so there were a few hickups as they got their plant up and running again, but they were very easy to work with and made everything right.
that lower outlet in the bathroom should be a GFI??
It is GFCI protected because it is connected to the “load” side of the above GFCI outlet.
kinda figured you would know that
@@OneFootOfftheGrid
“Simple Life Reclaimed” are UA-camrs and they went through the same thing with the condensation. You might email them and ask how they fixed it. Unfortunately…. I believe they had to redo their ceiling. I know they did a LOT of investigating because they didn’t want to have to redo it. 😞👍🏼
Thanks for the recommendation. I'll check out their channel. I think I didn't have that bay sealed off very well after we installed the vent for the water heater. I'll continue to monitor it though and make sure it isn't a problem.
Check your volume. Can't hear you.
Thanks for the heads up. I'll try to double check volume on future videos.
Was it throughout the whole video or just in parts?
I really would love if you guys could do longer videos than just 20 minutes, I love watching you both work on your beautiful home. I would love 1 hour long, these 20 minutes not enough for only once per week. Hope you look into it❤ love what am seeing a lot❤👍
Det finns jätte fina skydds madrasser IKEA har flera olika typer
Ni har glömt fuktspärren . Den ska va mellan isoleringen och träväggen . Sätt in en ventilations ventil
Wonderful. Loved it.
